Welcome, Caller
by M Dean Wright
my thoughts in a nutshell: "oh no hes just like me fr"
ok i dont really review books or anything, thats my friend's job (cheeky promo alana_the_bibliophile on instagram) nah yeah but this one was just so good.
firstly, as a neurodiverse bi trans dude i related so hard to Malcom (the main character) with the overloads and insecurities and just everything. i may or may not have to get this entire transcript tattooed upon my person cos it just hits so close to home in places i didnt even realise until the book brought them to my attention.
like the whole thing about Malcolm not going after things that will make him happy (Peter) just cause he feels like hes so fucked up ± messing something up on purpose before you can mess it up by accident vibes. i literally said (in a squidward impression cos that is important information) "oh no hes just like me for real" out loud on a bus (but it was a loud bus so no one heard) (hopefully). also another thing, Peter telling Malcolm about his auDHD and what he likes + dislikes about sensory stuff. and Malcolm believing and respecting him. i just. its such wish fulfilment. that along with the rest of the story, its all just wish fulfilment. having multiple queer and neurodiverse friends that help you when youre struggling and will beat up your unsupportive family members. (also having a dude think youre hot. wouldnt mind)
secondly, it was just a good read. like i really enjoyed reading it, which hasnt happened for a while. it made me smile and laugh in public (which i never do). fr i was having a giggle on the bus, in class, in doctors waiting rooms, everything. i actually looked forward to reading it as well and i had to trudge through other stuff just so i could get back to it.
lowkey gives love simon vibes (from what i remember of the book when i read it in like 2018), just chock full of natural and believable sounding dialogue and references to things im sure ill actually like. (in my notes app on my old phone i went through the book and wrote down all the references made in love simon and it was pretty extensive (and now i have to do this for this book. oh no guess ill have to read it again oh this is so sad whelp better start now see ya)).
and like the friendship between the characters, the dialogue never felt too forced and they talked like actual people id talk to. swearing at and bullying your friends is a love language and it was done pretty well in this, and also the sending of memes being like an important step in a friendship is too real. also the revival of interest in records, my cousins poor bank account is a testament to that being relatable.
thirdly, the story. we got enemies to friends to lovers, we got 'there was only one bed', we got a road trip, we got a sickfic, and so much more and you know that i ate it up every time.
that as well as the epic highs and lows of making friends in your 20s (lol).
the book follows Malcolm slowly becoming friends with this irl dude Peter while falling for this 'mysterious' radio host Rebo, with his friends supporting him the whole time.
like i dont really go for romantic style stories but this was just so good (but then again ive barely read anything since back when i used to inhale books at like age 12) + the chemistry between Malcolm and Peter was just chefs kiss so good man.
also, the name Goby (one of his friends) kinda got me tho ngl, gobby is australian slang for… something, and i got a jump scare whenever they showed up lol.
Edit: they Goby on my Gumby till I Cheese. I'm so fucking sorry I had to write that down I couldn't get to sleep.
the only bad thing about the book (not that its bad bad, just like if i had to pick something) would be that the ending was made out of like 3 epilogues with indeterminable time skips between them. unless i missed something idk. im just more about the 'the characters kept on living' kinda ending, less 'albus serverus potter' style stuff, not that it was even like that tho.
but also wanting to own and run an incredibly specific cafe+store with your partner is just so fucking gay. oh my god. fanfiction shit right there /pos.
lastly, i haven't read heaps of books in the last couple years, preferring movies and shows more than my childhood self who lived in books series, almost like i didnt like reality or something (unthinkable ik)(i literally had this printed out and hung on my wall)(and on me liking movies more, thats a whole nother fucking topic and a half so ill complain about it in another post)(but anyway).
like honestly, i think that i might get back into reading, even though i forgot how many hours just fly by when i read, cos this was just great. (dont tell my mum she'll throw a fucking party)(again, different topic).
also admittedly, i did sotra kinda maybe slightly pirated it and read it off a pdf BUT! cos i like it so much im probably going to buy a physical copy (for almost 40 fucking dollars including shipping Jesus fucking Christ)
ik not a single person but me will see this review but i dont care. this book was made for me about me

Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Character : Mob!Steve Rogers x Female Reader (?)
Summary : Steve was hoping to meet the right one until he met her. But is he ready to be with her? He thought his life already dark because of his job. He wouldn’t able to find a woman that strong enough to face the hardship to stand beside him. Turn out his life is nothing compared to her.
A/n :This #### will be used to explain the character’s past.
Warning : Grammar mistakes, since English is not my first language.
Tumblr media
Somewhere in Brooklyn.
There’s a female who is taking a nap on the couch. Today’s activity kind of exhausts her because of last night and the unexpected event at the restaurant. She wants to take a nap first before having dinner. But after 10 minutes, her beautiful sleep got distracted.
“(Y/N) !!! (Y/N) !!!”
(Y/N) awakened up from her nap because of the smashing door. She rubbed her eyes with her backhand. When her eyes finally focused, she could see someone standing in front of her.
She lazily asked him, “What’s up, Bambi?”
“Don’t call me with that nickname.”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. “Yeah, because you have grown up. But Peter Parker, in my eyes, I will always remember the boy who cried asking me for ice cream.” She put on her smirk smile, her hands moving fast to mess up his hair.
He slapped her hand that made her giggle.
“It’s not like I hate you coming to my house? But what’s wrong with that pouted face Peter?”
Peter heavily sighed; this time, he threw his body to the couch. He crossed his arms and pouted.
“Aww, ~~ What's it, partner? If you keep sighing, you will get older.”
“Urgh,” Peter rests his head on her shoulder. “When can I have a job that doesn't relate to guns?”
"You can."
Peter lifts his head to get a look at her. "How?"
"Die first."
"Thanks (Y/N)."
(Y/N) shrugged her shoulder, "You can't get rid of it. It's already in your DNA."
She pinches Peter's cheeks. "Why do you sound sarcastic today?" Usually, every time he came into her house, she could see flowers behind him. Now the background changes into grumpy Squidward.
Peter’s face still on the pillow, he grumbles, "You shouldn’t come to my work today."
"Why not? I'm worried about you."
"Pietro has been asking me about you."
"He knew I'm related to you?" (Y/N) seems surprised.
Peter nodded. "He noticed on my first day."
"He's good."
"But today…. It's not only him." Peter grumbled.
(Y/N) still impressed about Pietro’s instinct, she didn’t hear Peter grumbled since he speaks to soft "What?"
He shook his head "Nothing."
"Are you going to have a sleepover?"
Peter has been living in his place since he graduates from university. Before he said anything (Y/N), grab his hand. "Please… I'm tired eating delivery also instant mac&cheeseeeee~."
Peter shook his head; who would even think a former assassin like (Y/N) could act like a child because of food.
####
To explain the relationship between Peter and (Y/N); both are not related by blood. (Y/N) knew him because of his mother, and she met him when she was an assassin.
And a deadly one.
Why did she leave?
Because of Peter.
Something happened that made (Y/N) choose to burn everything from her past to the ground literally. She made quite a name in the underworld.
####
"Fine." He answered that made (Y/N) raised her arms to cheer.
"But only for today though, because my new housemate is coming." said Peter while he went to the fridge to get some ingredients.
(Y/N) looking at his back, the boy in front of him acts more mature than her. Time moved so fast the first time she met him; he asked her for a piggyback, cried when she didn't give him ice cream and blamed her when he's the one who broke his mother's favorite plate.
And now, he is almost taller than her, independent, better at cooking and moving out from their luxury home.
(Y/N) puts her chin on her palm. "I don't understand why you need to move out." She doesn't want to tell the truth that she misses him.
Peter already started cutting the vegetables. He had a reason why he moved out; somehow (Y/N) past will come to hunt and target her.
####
Peter knew everything about her and saw it. He could live with it, but he couldn't sleep every time he heard a gun, a sound of grunting because of the stabbing, and in the morning, he saw their house destroyed with bullet holes and destroyed furniture.
They have to move a couple of times.
He never saw any blood and dead bodies, (Y/N) top priorities were to get rid of the blood and bodies before he sees it.
Peter knew that she understood his reason why; he could see her teary eyes when he told her he wanted to move out. She felt guilty for all the things he had been going through because of her.
But it takes two to tango. Peter was the one who asked to stay beside her before she dropped him with his aunt May Parker on that day.
What (Y/N) said was right; it’s already in his DNA. Danger always follows him because of his mother.
His mother used to be an assassin like (Y/N) until she met his father. She left everything to build a family together.
But their happy life was cut short; one day, he lost his parents, and that's the first time he saw the dark side of (Y/N) and the first time he knew what revenge is.
####
"I met someone." Peter answer.
"Owww~ My brother is a man now~."
Peter looked at her through his shoulder.
She nodded her head multiple times. "I understand you need privacy."
"But use protection okay?"
"Ugh,(Y/N)!! Seriously…?"
(Y/N) laughed while putting her hands on it defensively. "Sorry, I will stop it."
After 30 minutes, both of them finally eat dinner together.
"Someone else beside Pietro also asked about you."
"Hmm."
"You knew who it was don't you?"
(Y/N) winked at him.
She knew it must be Steve because it is obvious he tries to flirt with her, and she gave him her phone number. She made a program if someone put specific keywords along with her fake name, she would get notified. (Y/N) only tell her real name to someone that she could fully trust.
She must admit he almost got her, with the help from Starks, the other genius, but she's better at hiding.-
"You planned to make him more curious about you right?"
"You're getting smarter Peter." (Y/N) want to meet Steve once again. Today the moment she saw his face, it looked like a cheesy chick flick movie.
She could replay the moment he approached her. And when he tried to be cool to say 'Hi' but failed, that was cute.
(Y/N) wasn’t planning to stay long at the restaurant today but she has to because she’s worried about Peter. Last night both of them went out to get dinner when they had back her old enemy try to target her. It failed since (Y/N) is much more powerful, but Peter’s shoulder got hit.
He said he was fine, but her heart clenched when she saw the blue bruise on his shoulder. Peter is a stubborn boy; he doesn’t want to make her worried. But she is; that’s why she chooses to stay to make sure he’s alright.
She didn’t regret staying since she met a gorgeous man today. Perhaps cupid plays its part.
Peter added, "He's a good boss, don't shock him."
"You make me look like a cold hearted bitch." (Y/N) scoffed.
Peter sighed. "The time when you were with Billy Russo?"
"It was brief, but we are cool."
"It's hard to believe when he sent his Anvil team to get you."
"Because of me, he learned that his team was weak. He even sent a letter thanking you and said let's meet again."
Peter furrowed his eyebrows and shook his head; he wishes he wishes the best for Billy.
"The time with August Walker?"
"To be fair, I betrayed him, but hey, we got a free helicopter."
"Zemo?"
"Both of us agreed to break up, and he ended up married with his true love. Happy ending."
Peter sighed "(Y/N); the reason why I'm saying this is because everytime you broke up with your boyfriend, they would come after you." The aftermath is always messy.
"I love this job, and my new friend. Please don't mess this up." He makes it clear since he liked his new workplace; the first time he came for the interview, he knew something different.
####
How Peter ended up working in Steve Rogers’s business?
Peter’s previous boss closed the restaurant to enjoy retirement with his wife. He recommended Peter to try at Rogers.
Rogers restaurant has been known as a prestigious dining place. He thought his chance was small, but it turned out he passed with flying color. Wanda was impressed by the way he could keep up with her work ethic.
After working a few days, he realized Rogers is not just a regular restaurant.
Pietro interrogated him to get some info about (Y/N), and one more obvious reason he saw a gun under Vision blazer, why would a manager own a gun? Why?
Then (Y/N) told him the truth that his boss is a famous mobster in Brooklyn.
Peter sighed when he heard that; he thought he could start living like an average person.
####
"You knew me Peter." She put down the knife and fork, then sipped a glass of red wine.
"I'll listen to you. Besides, I quite like him."
Peter widened his eyes "You mean genuine like him right? Without any agenda?"
(Y/N) nodded, "Maybe he could be your future brother in law."
Peter immediately shivered to imagine Steve became his family. "Let's not think to far (Y/N)."
Tumblr media
Unlike Peter, someone else already thinks of it.
Somewhere far away, in a secret mansion where Steve and others gathered.
Three of them sit around the table; Bucky and Sam were nervous while Steve is playing with the dagger.
Natasha is furious. "I knew someday Rumlow will make a fuss at our area and make a big mess. But what I don't understand is why I got a call from the fixer and then the interior design telling me they want an extra payment because we asked them to finish in a month?"
She already anticipated the surprise attack from Brock since he replaces Pierce. It’s nothing new for them.
She noticed that Steve doesn’t listen to her complaints "Did Brock hit Steve's head? It looks like he’s not listening to me.”
Sam bumped Bucky’s elbow to talk to his wife.
Bucky cleared his throat because his seat is near to her. He leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "Honey, Uhm… so today, something else happened."
Natasha listened what her husband whispered to her, what she hear made her gasped "Pietro!! Bring out the vodka !!" She called out their favorite bartender.
"Wake him up," Nat told her husband, her head pointed at Steve.
Bucky threw a french fries from his plate at Steve.
It hit Steve’s cheeks, successfully got his attention. He realizes Natasha sits in front of him, and Pietro serves them vodka.
Sam shook his head; he silently murmured his boss also, his best friend is in lovesick right now.
"Ooh, something to celebrate?"
"Little white wolf told me you got lovestruck today?"
Bucky’s hand covers his red cheeks when his wife mentions his nickname while Sam pretends not to hear it.
"Yes." Steve admitted.
"Congrats.” Natasha smirked while asking him, “So... she's the reason why you want our restaurant to reopen next month?"
"Correct."
"Ow, interesting."
“What makes her unusual was, she’s the only guest that didn’t run when the fight happens.” Bucky said.
“She’s the one who gave him that dagger.” Sam added.
“And, we couldn’t find anything about her even with the help from Starks.”
Bucky and Sam told her everything; they told her with excitement like they found a discovery.
Natasha was immensely impressed when she heard that “Can’t wait to meet her.”
They wish Steve could find someone that can accept who he is. In the last relation he had, they tried to change him by asking him to leave the mobster. It ended up badly, making Steve became bitter about everything.
If this woman not afraid to see what happened today, perhaps she could accept who Steve is.
"Me too." Said Steve, his lips could reach his eyes. His eyes are still looking at the dagger, thinking that he has to impress her the next time they meet.

A/N: Dum Dum dum~~~~
The female reader turned out to be a retired assassin.  At first, I want to make the reader be Peter’s godmother, but I don’t want her to be that old, so I change it to stepsister.
Thank you for all the likes, my new follower and for repost. I really appreciate it.
Please tell me if you want to be tagged for the next chapter.

my official rating of all the duggar grandkids names for anyone who is curious:
Josh & Anna:
Mackynzie Renee: I actually like Mackenzie even though it's not really my own style, but I don't love Mackynzie, in both spelling and pronunciation it's not as appealing imo. I like Renee even though it's a bit of a filler middle, but Kynzie shares a middle name with her mom so I'll give that a pass because I tend to give family names a lot of leeway.
Michael James: Michael and James are two of my favorite boys' names so I like this one :) They're both very simple and classic but they're lovely and so versatile. I do think James is also a bit filler-y as a middle even though it's one of my faves as a first, but presumably it's after Jim Bob so it also gets a pass (actually, I don't think choosing to name your kid after Jim Bob Duggar gets a pass really but kshdjghsf)
Marcus Anthony: I really like both of these names individually, esp Anthony, but I HATE them together because it just makes me think of Mark Antony and I don't think they did it on purpose but I think it's cheesy.
Meredith Grace: Return of the filler middle! I do like Grace although it feels more fresh as a first name. I don't love Meredith, it's fine but I prefer Mary and it definitely feels dated. Also they call her Dithy for short and I don't like that at all.
Mason Garrett: Don't really like Mason, it feels very bland and it's not my style. Garrett is also not my style but it has a bit more punch to it. It does flow well though.
Maryella Hope: I actually really like this one, even though it's def sort of old-ladyish. I like Mariella spelling better, but I know she's named after Jim Bob's mother Mary so the connection is more obvious this way. But I like all the "chunks" of this name: Mary + Ella + Hope. It sounds a little too similar to Meredith but when you're locked into the M names there's only so much you can do I guess.
overall/sibling set take: I honestly hate the matchy-sibling-initial thing and I think it's annoying as hell, and I'm glad Josh is the only Duggar kid who has chosen to continue this tradition with his own family. I also think it boxes parents into choosing names they don't really love just because it goes with the theme, and it means a lot of the names kind of clash. I don't think coherency in style for sibling names is a huge deal but they definitely don't have it. On the other hand, I really like a lot of the individual name choices here.
Jill & Derick
Israel David: I think Israel sounds really nice but I think it's almost unusuably politically and religiously loaded/controversial so I feel like I really disagree with their choice to use it. David is very handsome, nice classic.
Samuel Scott: Samuel is one of my favorite names and I'm kind of sorry I will never use it because it's my grandpa, uncle, and cousin's name and also my brother's middle name so it's kind of already taken multiple times over. Scott isn't my favorite but as a middle name it's fine and the whole thing flows well and is a good use of alliteration, which I don't always care for.
overall take: solid choices, don't love the use of Israel from an ideological perspective. Would be interested to see if they keep doing the -el thing with future kids or what style of name they would pick for a girl. I also think Jill and Derick may not have any more kids and will likely have the most limited family of any second-gen Duggars so we may not see many more names, which is a pity as a name nerd but great as someone who supports Jill making decisions about her own reproductive system and family size. My personal prediction is that Jill will eventually have a third child (I do think she would like a daughter) but that they will stop after that.
Jessa & Ben
Spurgeon Elliot: This is the only first name choice on a Duggar grandbaby that I outright hate. I think this is like Jinger-level bad if not worse. It's weird, but it's not even like an unusual name that happens to sound nice, it's SO ugly. I think of sperm, I think of sturgeon fish, I somehow think of Squidward especially since his full name is Spurgeon Seewald, it's really just bad. It's also such a pity because Elliot is a lovely name and if they'd just switched around the two I could have dealt with it, I know they wanted to reference Charles Spurgeon but they truly should have used the middle spot like they did with Henry. They absolutely nerfed this poor kid.
Henry Wilberforce: Henry is such a nice classic and I really like it. See, here with Wilberforce as a middle it acknowledges the historical figure they want to honor but it also flows nicely and doesn't hit you over the head and also Wilberforce isn't as ugly and Squidward-like as Spurgeon.
Ivy Jane: This is super cute, I really like how it has vintage charm but also feels up to date. I don't think they call her by her full name, but I also think Ivy Jane would be a cute double name. I also just realized that in addition to two Evies there is also an Ivy in this family which is just :/
overall opinion: I really don't know why they didn't swap the FN/MN on Spurgeon because Elliot, Henry, and Ivy is like a perfectly matched sibling set. That's all on that. I almost wonder if they regret naming Spurgeon that and that's why they've stuck more traditional with the other two, or if either Ben or Jessa has way more obscure taste than the other and they've been swinging both ways on that.
Joy & Austin
Gideon Martyn: Gideon is really nice, it's a more obscure but increasingly popular Biblical choice that is both handsome and a little bit fun! I like Martin but don't love this spelling, but I know it's a family name for Austin so I am going to give it a pass. Evelyn Mae: I really like this one, it's kind of like Ivy Jane in that it feels both vintage and current. I generally prefer May to Mae because it's a bit softer-looking but Mae is fine too.
overall opinion: I think the names work together but are kind of different styles, so I would be interested to see what further boys or girls wind up being named: I think some parents favor very different vibes for male versus female names.
Joe & Kendra
Garrett David: Garrett returns! IIRC this is a family name on Michelle's side but I might be making that up. I think this is a handsome combination overall but it's a little bland to me. Addison Renee: I like Addie and most of the long forms of it, so this gets a thumbs up from me. Renee is again kind of filler-y but I like it.
overall opinion: I think Joe and Kendra favor a pretty modern/trendy surnamey style that is very common in the rural South, although they don't seem to go for unusual spellings like Josh and Anna did with Mackynzie. I fully expect them to continue with this trend with later kids because they've stuck to it for both boys and girls. For the daughter they're currently expecting, I predict something like Shelby or Reagan, although since Addie uses a more traditionally feminine nickname they might not go for directly unisex again either. Maybe a Brooklyn?
Jinger & Jeremy
Felicity Nicole: Felicity does make me think overwhelmingly of the American Girl Doll, but that's not really a bad association and I like the name overall. Also they call her Lissie which I think is very cute. Nicole is a bit of a stylistic clash but it's Jinger's middle name.
Evangeline Jo: I like Evangeline, but I do think it's weird in a family where there are already cousins named both Evie and Ivy. I also prefer the -leen or -lynn pronunciation to the -line pronunciation that they're using. Plus, I think Evangeline Jo flows kind of oddly, especially with the last name Vuolo.
overall opinion: I feel like Evangeline is exactly the same style as Felicity and is a really predictable choice for them, and I also feel like Jinger has a secret Nameberry account because their style is one that is SUPER common on nameberry. Long and lacy names with more approachable nicknames and an elegant/intellectual/classy feel, which makes sense because Jeremy is a deeply pretentious person djsfkvhsdzjkfhjd. I would be interested to see what they would name a boy because their girl style is super coherent.
Josiah & Lauren
Bella Milagro: I don't love Bella: I prefer Ella, and I also feel like it's a bit nicknamey, although I don't like a lot of -bella names anyway. I think Milagro is a very cool middle name and I like that she shares it with her mom!
John David & Abbie
Grace Annette: I like Grace, it's simple and sweet and feels very versatile and classic. I think Annette is Michelle's middle name IIRC, it's definitely dated but I think it flows nicely with Grace.

i wish nick would stop milking spongebob just leave it as the show and movies that’s it, i’m worried all this would come crashing down with all these new shows whether it be burnout with the cast and crew, creative differences, or failure of the projects, i just want spongebob to end soon and have proper good ending, nick should have more faith in their other cartoons other than spongebob and maybe the loud house, just actually green light actual good cartoon ideas, not annoying flashy shows
I have a feeling the show will come crashing down pretty soon. At this rate they're churning out much more then what the show can produce.
Tbh I enjoy the current seasons. They're fun. The show is still the juggernaut of the network. There isn't a need for mini series and extras. I know camp coral is a mini series so it really wouldn't last long but patrick the show or squidward the show? It's a lot of work. Its exhausting work.
You know what's funny is what made nick rise to the top in the 90s was the fact that they green lit a lot of shows, allowed for experimentation. They let their artists have the power and in return got a lot of great shows out of it. And I'm not saying the 90s was perfect and everything trash. But it was one of their core philosophies that they seemed to disregard as soon as they got money. The artists no longer have the right to their intellectual property. Unionizing will easily get you fired. Its a disaster all around.
The 2000s actually had great shows. The problem was the network wasn't willing to give them a chance. If they didn't hit mega stardom in its early season then it got axed. I often am surprised a lot of the shows I liked as a kid got canceled pretty early for no reason. They were popular with the kids I know for sure. Everyone in school talked about those shows so it didn't make sense why they would cancel it but for them if it wasn't massively marketable then it wasn't worth the time.
They will cancel shows with good ratings all the time. No reasons even given to the creator such as shows like Harvey Beaks. Its tragic.
I don't really want to pin all the blame on Spongebob because the show really got screwed over by Nick too. Literally going against everything Stephen wanted and Nickelodeon would have really done this to any show if it had not been spongebob. Literally they were forcing to make Spongebob a hey Arnold duplicate at the time.
It's really shitty though. Nickelodeon really won't end shows easily. When they're done with a show they would just put it on their nick toons channel to die with no ending like the fairlyodd parents when that show could have ended long time ago with the multiple series finales the show has. You know as a kid I used to wonder why fairlyodd parents had so many grand specials and stuff. It was because Nickelodeon often threatened to axe the show so many times so the staff had to make these specials because they were expecting it to be the end only to have Nick resurrect it again.
I don't care for the trash man Butch Hartman but the show got ran into the ground, no ending. It was abandoned on their nick toons channel and faded into obscurity. People only remembering it for the horrible quality of the last few seasons and its an example of what spongebob could become if we allow Nickelodeon to continue this.
All the actors on spongebob are very old now. I remember looking through the art book last night and it had a picture of Tom Kenny when he was younger (not much younger but like during the show) he had brown curly hair. Its crazy because nowadays you can watch him on instagram recreating moments from spongebob episodes and he looks completely different now. Short grey hair and a beard. He looks completely different now. So does many of the voice actors.
They've been doing this since before I was born and now I'm in an adult. Its crazy to imagine. They must be tired. We already had the voice actors for Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy pass away. The show makes up excuses whenever mermaid man and Barnacle boy get brought up and why they're unavailable but we all know the truth of what happened to them.
I'm worried the main cast voice actors will die soon. I don't want that and hope that never happens but the creator of the show itself isn't even alive. The current movie is dedicated in his honor "in loving memory of Stephen Hillenburg" at the end of the movie. It felt so sad.
It's nice his creation lived on to fill people's lives with comfort and happiness. Long after he passed away but it's crazy how badly his own brain child got disrespected and will continue to be disrespected.
I don't really want the show to end soon because I'm attached but also it has to. Its better for it to have a dignified ending then a miserable ending like the fairlyodd parents.
I want it to end with a proper legacy and be treated with the proper respect it deserves but Nickelodeon doesn't seem to have respect for anything. There is no such thing as a just corporation. They don't care about long term quality. They care about what's the most eye catching and have momentary success. Flashy lights that will easily entertain children which is crazy.
I remember their idea in the past was that they cared about what kids actually want to see. Not to put down the intelligence of children, respecting them as individuals and their entertainment would reflect that. It's clear they don't stand by that anymore.
You could argue that I was getting older but they brought in these cheap flashy cartoons in the late 2000s where I was still a kid. I was still their demographic and I hated it. It was hard to watch. Them trying to join in on trends and stuff at the time felt like your parents trying to join in on what the cool kids do. It was weird and hard to watch. They really don't have to do that. They tried doing live action shows in hopes of seeming cool but most kids hated it or were not allowed to watch because it was deemed inappropriate for most kids to watch.
They feel like a mess. I can't even suggest what to so since they're such a disaster network and now tv is dying so they're trying out streaming networks thst are only available in the US thus alienating a large portion of their audience.
I don't see them getting better soon so I don't see the future of spongebob as a whole being bright. I guess all we can do is enjoy the current season episodes. They're funny at least.

While I would love for SpongeBob musical to be pro recorded on DVD from live on stage, I want to consider upping the ante. I love watching the NBC live musicals, and though The Wiz is my favorite one which is one done on a stage, I was blown away with their version of Hairspray which was done on multiple stages. I really felt like I was submerged in the world when I saw the characters look like they were walking through the streets of Baltimore, going from one building to another. An honorable mention goes to Fox's Grease live, while they did the multiple stage setup just as well, I think NBC'S Hairspray live was the better overall package.
So, you're probably wondering why take the show off the stage? It's perfect onstage with it's many props and stretches of the imagination! And yes, I agree with that! The effects they pull off onstage are amazing.
But, take a moment to close your eyes and imagine this:
First, imagine how the play opened, with a cardboard cutout if SpongeBob's pineapple home, and a few prop handlers flipping it over to reveal SpongeBob waking up to a new day. He walks through a cutout door in the prop, referencing him walking out of his home, and greets his neighbors as they one by one emerge from behind their cardboard cutout of their homes.
Now, imagine we are actually opening the musical in a complete live replica of SpongeBob's bedroom. He gets up from his bed, greets the day, greets his snail, sings the first verse of Bikini Bottom Day as he walks down his actual stairs, crosses his actual living room, and exits the actual door to his actual house. The camera pans out to see the street they live on, the ground while flat is made to look like actual Sandy ground from the neighborhood, but most amazing of all, not only is SpongeBob standing in front if a two story replica of his home, but next to it are replicas of Patrick and Squidward's homes.
How fucking magical is it to see that second scenario done in real life and in real time live on the screen??!
Both versions are equally magical, but they have their own specific magic. So, this does lead to one issue if which version should get done, and that's preference. You have to question when you go this route: what should be upgraded and what should be left downgraded? I mean, if you up the ante for everything, you do lose the wonder of how this live action Broadway version of a SpongeBob episode stretches your imagination. But, on the same end, seeing Bikini Bottom as an actual location, and maybe even the volcano, even in sections just the characters climbing an actual side of an active mountainside, is both submersive and awe inspiring.
But, building an actual Bikini Bottom back lot set would cost a lot more than cardboard props. Which leads to the even bigger deciding factor: the budget. And, since SpongeBob musical is so young, has so much to prove, and is rumored to not be selling out every night, I don't see them getting the budget to pull this off. Due to it's popularity and it being a Nickelodeon product, I can see it getting a taping, maybe even an event where they perform the show live for those watching at home. But, it's too soon to throw that much money at it. Yet. It has proven itself in the eyes of the fandoms and Broadway, but it needs to prove itself in profit and marketing to prove that they've earned this upgraded treatment. And, sadly, it's not there yet.
So, setting aside money and preference, I want to open this idea to the fans on the internet. What do you think of this idea? Do you like the idea of SpongeBob getting big enough that it could get the back lot and multi set treatment like Hairspray and Grease? Or should a big hit remain humble and stay on one simple stage?
