Who did the artwork for [Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge]?
Gerard: I did. You like it?
Yes, very much.
Gerard: Actually, I did a bunch of artwork -a whole bunch of stuff that didn’t make it on the record. I just didn’t want it on, and we used that stuff on the hoodies. I’ll tell you a funny story about it. I went in to the head of the Art Department at Warner. He’s a guy with a lot of history. He’s worked on Beatles stuff. He’s been in the business. Did you seen the VH1 thing with Fleetwood Mac? That band had a big special air on Sunday, and it was the making of their last record. He’s there. He’s in it. I’m sitting there and watching it like, “Holy shit.” Anyway, I go in with this book, this sketchbook of all this watercolor stuff, because I was going to use that as a basis for what the photographer was going to do. We have a photographer I really love, Justin Borucki. He ended up doing all the photos of the band for the record. But he was supposed to do this set up of a man and a woman. It was supposed to be a photo of them covered in blood. So, I pass all my sketches over, and he’s sitting there looking at them and he’s like, “What do you want me to do with these?” I was like, “I’m just going to give them to the photographer and he’s going to recreate the situation.” He goes, “How come you’re not using these?” I’m like, “I don’t know. I haven’t done art in years.” So, I didn’t think of myself that way. I didn’t think they were good enough. He loved them. He was like, “This is your cover, dude.” I was really surprised. It’s very gory, but I guess because it’s watercolor, it’s very tasteful, which is why he actually preferred all of them. Because if we put people there, it would look like a hardcore record. It would look like a movie poster for some weird movie. So, I was like, “Alright. Ok, let’s do it.” So, that’s how that came about. We have two versions of it too. There’s another gorier version that I actually didn’t like because the guy came out bad. The girl came out great. It didn’t look right. The other one is more tasteful.

do you have any favorite zines?
Omgggggg. Ok. I'm bad at favorites bc I just love. A lot of things. Mcr and bandom are what im focused on intentionally collecting but theres so many cool ones oit there, so here are some I like a lot and would define recommend:
On music and Bandom
Sing It Like The Kids That Are Mean To You- fans of color in the emo scene. I just can't recommend this one enough.
Muchacha Fanzine- this is probably my favorite ongoing series
No Bystanders Zine- Creating safer spaces in artistic communities
Building: - A DIY guide to hosting events and building radical communities
I have a whole post on MCR zines here and many more I haven't photographed, so I'm going to leave most of them off but rest assured
My Pussy Demands Attention:- an info zine about the Used and Bert McCracken styled as a parody of a chic track which are like those little booklets that Christians give out and tell you you're going to hell. (Distro Twitter is linked bc their store is currently down)
One of the prizes of my physical collection (bc i keep scans and links as well if they are the only ones I can find) is this issue of Stars and Scars with the My Chemical Romance interview from 2004 Skate & Surf Festival. You can read the article on their archive, its a great one bc its from the era when Gerard wasn't used to being famous yet and would just say shit
Other topics
Here are a few of my other favorites! I also have a fairly large collection of political zines about prison abolition, mutual aid, sex work, and disability, and I like them a LOT and really value them as resources but they aren't my favorites bc a lot of them are really heavy. An also bc this post is already so long lol oh no. Ok so:
Coop: a zine of chicken poetry. I just really love chickens and how ppl talk about them i think they are very sweet. Also a lovely example of why people should self publish.
Eternal Nap: A zine about all the cemeteries and graveyards the author has visited (also distributed by Crapandemic Goth Distro, site currently down)
Tentacle: A mini zine on the history of tentacle porn.
Malachim: A pocket guide to Jewish Angels.
Anyway, those are some of my favorites but there' s so many other amazing ones! Categories I haven't even touched on. But as always if you have questions or ideas for zines you want to talk through or MCR titles to recommend plz say hi!

And i guess this is it, i tried my best at researching all that, i may include some more of them later on but as usual, it will depend if their songs are good enough to be part of my personal favorites.
Also, i'm not quite interested in continuing to make more critiques of their studio discographies so, otherwise, it will be put on hold.
Now, i would like to know something. What do you think of these bands and artists i mentioned here? Do you enjoy listening to them as well? You can just comment here anytime you want to, i don't mind if it's empty or not.
With that, i conclude this blog. See you then.

The following is a bunch of comics from "late 2004 probably" as my notes indicate. My mom had this gorgeous pack of skinny markers and I was allowed to draw with them after we watched a movie (the tv was in the same room as the markers, not in the living room with my general art supplies).
We had gotten a kid's pottery wheel. I thought it was so cool. In this comic, the cat gets spun around on it, but ultimately takes the clay to use on its own little cat-sized pottery wheel.
A flower cleans up her act but all she gets is transplanted. If you overwater plants, they go "blot."
Ah yes, "Murpup," a totally normal name for a dog. Our Christmas tree was a norfolk pine and the branches were pokey.
My standard comic setup was a grid of nine, but sometimes I did twelve. Or, if I needed more space, I'd cut one of the original panels into smaller boxes. I loved ice skating and drew it a lot.
Everything they do on tv happens for real. It's not special effects they really just hire a mountain lion to bite you for tv. So I thought, I guess. This poor guys gets dumped in a river, slammed into a cactus, embarrassed by his heart underwear, kicked by his horse, and bit by a mountain lion creature, and calls for his mommy. The life of an actor is tough.
This one doesn't really make sense but you can see I'm already fooling around with meta humor. She turns on her lightbulb to get an idea, the foot from a higher panel bonks her, and when she throws her head back to laugh she sees her past in the panels above. Not sure where the surfing on the usa came from.
My mom liked how dynamic the mom was calling "dinner" while leaning out through the window. The joke is that the girl is disappointed that she "only" made 8,929 jumps before having to stop.
When I finished my homework, I would dance around, singing, "I'm done with all my homework, cha! cha!" This girl stepped it up with silly glasses, and while my family expected it, this girl did it for her own amusement.
Ah, the old cyclical punchline. The cat will once again join the jump roper, until another sneeze inevitably tangles them up in a cloud of dust.
I think my attempted punchline was that the butterfly looked like it was on a hill of grass, but it turns out to be the baby's ice cream.
So we begin and end with a Christmas comic. I knew the tree had to be overpriced, but I didn't have a clear idea of what a Christmas tree actually cost. I overshot a little, but, after all, a good $9,688 is worth it.

Rammstein are not for the faint hearted. In 2004, after a three-year break, they once again impressively demonstrated this. 'Mein Teil', the first single from their fourth album, 'Reise, Reise', is about cannibalism. The track is based on the true story of the Rotenburg cannibal, which made headlines nationwide. The boys also prefer to sing about taboo topics such as necrophilia (sex with corpses), pedophilia (fornication with children) or sadomasochistic practices. You either love or hate Rammstein. They are Germany's most controversial band - but also the one that is the most successful worldwide. Since their formation in 1994, singer Till, Paul, Richard (both guitar), Oliver (bass), Christoph (drums) & Christian (keyboard) have also been suspected of playing right-wing rock. Mistake! Their lyrics are often close to the censorship limit, but they have nothing to do with fascism! The boys, who all grew up in the GDR, come from the punk scene - and love to shock. "We hate expressing ourselves clearly," explains Till. “With Rammstein there is always room for interpretation.” Even the band name is a provocation. “Just a word with a good ring. Rammsteine are granite cones at gate entrances,” says the band. But when you hear the name, you think of the US Air Base in Ramstein (Rhineland-Palatinate), where 74 people died at an air show on August 28, 1988. They also titled a song after this accident, and on stage Till likes to set himself on fire. Otherwise he sprays water on the fans with a huge dildo. The blatant live shows with fireworks & sexually ambiguous interludes are the trademark of the band, which made their breakthrough in 1995 with the album 'Herzeleid' (double gold). In 1998 they went on a headlining tour in America, where their '97 album 'Sehnsucht', which included the hit single 'Engel', and sold over 500,000 copies. No less successful: 'Mutter' (2001) - number one in Germany. And there is no end to the success story in sight!
