re: this post, i can't take credit for the thought, my good friend @queerlylibra sent it to me and was like CHANNNN, but my personal thesis is this understanding of a guard dog as fiercely devoted protector, but that ability to protect and also the love that guides that protection develops from reinforcement and hierarchy. with chan, he is leader and protector and advocate, but deeply adheres to a hierarchy he himself created, putting everyone above himself. it's different from a guard dog in the sense that usually the person above the dog in the hierarchy is the one training them, giving the handler a more active role while the deep, unconditional devotion chan has for others is self-conditioned, but ultimately the deference and loyalty is the same.
