Fake Voyager Episode: Tuvok gets kidnapped and forced to compete in an arena where telepaths fight one another to the death for a shot at fortune and prestige. He was initially kidnapped as 'fodder' - the aliens who run the arena will grab any telepathic alien they can find regardless of skill and they're essentially just there to be killed by flashier veterans of the bloodsport. The episode is mainly Tuvok showing off his tactical know-how and combat skills. We also get several flashbacks to him as a young man, learning how to fight both on Vulcan and in Starfleet. There's a concern that he will lose himself when forced into this seemingly endless battle, surrounded by violence, but in the end he prevails and manages to escape without killing a single person. New trek writers are like i know how to write vulcans and then i watch them nearly maim themselves trying to eek out a narrative that only has the depth and weight of a saltine cracker.

Like Voyager GAVE you the groundwork to understand the vulcans. Its not that they do not have fun or lack emotions its that they feel so much they have to keep total control of it and direct themselves with rationale/logic. They have an entire culture based around doing CBTherapy on themselves bc they want to live normal lives instead of being subjected to their brains chemistry overload like. Its not hard. We have books. We have books to understand these things and maybe if you like, thought abt writing them as a people instead of a mascot animal you could make a show stick a landing without its legs shattering into a billion pieces

then of course that lead to the thought of, naturally the borg would influence the assimilated talaxians, BUT it would be really FUN if the influence also ran the other way... so neelix retains his mad max vibes, but in a much more dangerous way...!! he also retains his cultural love of wild patterns.

I’d like to know, who’s your favorite crewmen/important character from each series? If you want to! Sorry if you’ve already answered this somewhere, I scrolled your tag and didn’t see it, but the tumblr search function is terrible so I’m reluctant to place faith in it.

I haven’t done something like this yet, so thanks for the challenge! Gonna go in chronological in-universe order, since that’s closest to the order I watched them in:

ENT: This one is a close call between Hoshi and T’Pol but at the end of the day I’ve gotta say it’s Hoshi. She’s my personal hero and so amazing!

DISCO 1-2: Michael Burnham, hands down. She’s the most relatable character to me personally. The guilt complex she has? Oh wow that’s me. Her compassion, her intelligence her determination to do the right thing even if it’s hard or unpopular, the way she makes mistakes but always tries to do better. I love her so so much.

AOS: this is the hardest. I love the AOS characters so much. It’s probably a threeway tie between Kirk, Spock and Uhura with Sulu and Gaila coming in hot on their tails.

SNW: T’Pring. Loved her in Amok Time. She’s great in SNW and I Can’t wait to see her dump Spock for Stonn. It’s gonna be a riot, I’m sure.

TOS/TAS: Gotta be Spock, of course.

TNG: Tasha Yar if she’d gotten more seasons 😢But probably Troi! I think she often gets overlooked, but her performance in “Face of Evil” especially was great. And I’m a sucker for telepathic characters who are half human/half alien and struggle with their parents.

DS9: Again, the DS9 cast is so great it’s really hard to pick just one, but I think I’m most obsessed with Sisko. He’s a really complex and unique character that so often gets overlooked, but he’s got so much going on. Surprised there aren’t reams of Saratoga fics for him when Michael’s got a good number of Shenzhou-Era fics for her. But maybe I’ll just have to write them myself.

VOY: a tie between Tuvok and B’Elanna. Tuvok is an excellent Vulcan character and I love Vulcans. And B’Elanna is another hybrid, which I’ve always found interesting.

LOW: Beckett Mariner! She’s a AOS-Kirk-Type party animal, but just like him, deep deep down she really cares about everyone and she only pushes people away because it’s a coping mechanism for trauma. There’s so much depth to her character and she’s one of Trek’s first openly bisexual characters, so that’s awesome!

PRO: Prodigy is still warming up, so it’s hard to say. But I think Gwyn is my favorite. She’s got so much angst potential in that backstory of hers. Going against her own dad who thinks he’s on a mission to save their people? I love it. So juicy.

PIC: Can I make everyone angry and say Narek? I was hoping he would come back but no, Picard writers hate me specifically.

DISCO 3-4 (it’s basically a different show): Michael again, if we’re being honest. But I also really like Rillak and T’Rina. More milf presidents, please!

Some Vulcan Headcanons

They have like no base in canon just things I thought about Vulcans most of them don’t have evidence either. Most of my Vulcan fanfics will probably be based off these headcanons, I’ll be adding and editing this post whenever I feel differently or think of new things~ 💕

* Vulcans can outrun humans with speed, however humans can outrun Vulcans by distance.

* Vulcans are better climbers

* Vulcans have death grips. Once they have you, it’s gonna be difficult to get away.

* They have slightly longer fingers, better for climbing!

* Vulcans can’t jump as high as a human can, however, it isn’t by much, a couple inches at most.

* Vulcans eat a lot more than they are shown. Even though they have slow metabolisms they have dense muscles that need lots of protein, luckily there are lots of high protein grains and vegetables on Vulcan.

* Ancient Vulcans were cave dwellers. The caves provided protections of predators and kept them cooler in the extreme heat of Vulcan.

* Due to the fact that the seas are small and in few numbers on Vulcan, most Vulcans cannot swim, however, in coastal towns, more of them have the knowledge on how to swim, but it seems most Vulcans still prefer to not to go for a dip. There is always the odd duck who loves to swim though.

* Before sonic showers, Vulcan use small bucks of water with a rag, or more commonly sand to bathe with

* Because of their muscles and flexibility, Vulcans don’t take a lot of fall damage, even a Vulcan child could fall from the a height that would easily kill a human and walk away with minor injuries

* Vulcan have very strong leg bones and muscles because of the slightly higher gravity than Earth

* Vulcans in the north prefer spicier food while people in the south prefer food with little, if any, spice. Humans to try the food are often stuck with something that seems boring to them, or just downright painful from the spice

* Because of their telepathic abilities, Vulcan babies need a lot of skin contact in their first few months after birth. It is not uncommon for a Vulcan mother or father to carry their infant child to their bare chest, even in public, usually tucked into their robes

* Because Vulcans are touch telepaths children get a sense of calm from their parents when they are in contact but also form familiar bonds, lack of touch can lead to malformation and damage to new neural networks in the infants brain

* Vulcan toddlers are volatile, they have yet to master their emotions and tend to throw fits over many things. Skin contact, such as hugging, holding and cuddling, from their parents usually calms them down. It’s common for children from ages 0-5 to sleep in their parent’s bed as they need near constant contact. Young Vulcan men usually shave their chest, but as they get older is more uncommon.

* Vulcan women have on occasion worn makeup. Buying makeup on Vulcan is uncommon, many women on Vulcan grow plants that can be use for make up such as flowers that can be ground for lipstick or a crushed leaf for rouge. These plants usually have other uses such as medical or as food.

* Sehlats are not the only pets Vulcans keep. They also keep small rodents and occasionally a ferret like animal too.

* Vulcan pet names are usually old Vulcan names no one uses anymore or names of monsters or animals from ancient Vulcan literature.

* Sehlats aren’t fed meat, but instead high protein grain and vegetables and eggs. Sehlats are naturally omnivores but the need for meat was bred out of thousands of years.

I think about the ending of gravity a lot. So there’s Tuvok and there’s Noss, the love interest of the week, and the whole episode is about how Tuvok won’t allow himself to feel the same way that Noss feels towards him for a whole variety of reasons, but they’ve been left alone and they’re talking about how they wished things could’ve been different and Tuvok moves closer and closer to her and I always think he’s going to kiss her, but instead he mind melds with her, the classic Tuvok go to move, and that’s how they end things. I’ve always thought it was nice that they never tried to undermine the fact that he’s a Vulcan; of course he’s not going to kiss her first of all that’s not how they kiss and second of all he wouldn’t kiss her because that’s just not who he is. And I think the reason this sticks with me is that t’pol was never given the same treatment. She’s always doing the human things, kissing, holding hands, etc etc. Now the argument could be made that because she’s in a relationship with a human that it’s only natural that she take up some human tendencies, but it never goes both ways. Trip never does anything vulcan to show his affection. It’s always t’pol giving in, it’s always t’pol being further and further divorced from being written as a Vulcan. Even when she’s dreaming about getting it on with another Vulcan, it’s just a bunch of making out and two people with no chemistry awkwardly rubbing each other under strategically placed sheets. She doesn’t get a mind meld moment with anyone. She doesn’t get anything
