A Schlachtschwert, early XVIth century.

Spring steel blade of flat hexagonal section for most its length, mild steel fittings with hollow brass ball finials on the cross. Leather over thread over wooden core for the grip, and leather over wood for the sleeve (more about that below). This is a tentative reconstruction of what a "proper" Landsknecht Greatsword could look like, such a they appear on period artwork, be it paintings like the Siege of Alesia by Melchior Feselen (1533) or the Battle of Pavia kept at the Royal Armouries (or the tapestries depicting that same battle, now at the Museo Capodimonte, made after sketches by Bernard van Orley), the Victory of Charlemagne over the Avars near Regensburg by Albrecht Altdorfer (1518), or the many drawings, prints and woodcuts by artists such as Reinhart von Solms, Jörg Breu, the great Hans Burgkmair, Niklas Stör, Hans Holbein (both Elder and Younger), Virgil Solis, Hans Sebald Beham, the legendary Urs Graf, Daniel Hopfer, Erhard Schön, Hans Schäufelein and others...All of them combined to give this result.

Such swords would be seen not only in the hands of a Doppelsoldner, but also carried by your Feldwaybel or an Edelman. And it would be called a Schlachtschwert in the very captions of the illustrations I mentioned earlier (see Erhard Schön). *Not* a "two-handed Katzbalger", though the cross obviously echoes the S/8-shaped guard of the latter. We clear on that ? Good.

Very few of such swords are kept in museums out there, with a lot of them leaving me dubious regarding their authenticity. The one in Berlin seems to me to be the most genuine of all, and it is on its proportions that I based this piece, though the Berlin sword shows a fancy, diamond-pattern decoration on the quillions very much recalling the Katzbalger kept in the Museum of London. Most if not all period illustration do not show such fancy details on the crossguards though ; they are actually rather plain, without even the ribbing/threading/filework you can find on Katzbalger crosses. Hence I kept this one rather plain, with a square cross section with rounded corners, and some light filework at the center. I also bent the quillions into an offset 8-shape rather than a symmetrical one, to be more consistant with the earlier examples visible in period artwork.

The main questioning was that sleeve at the base of the blade, present on a lot of the period artwork; its obvious function was to provide a spot on which to put the other hand - as can be deduced from Marozzo's teachings for fighting against polearms - but the main issue was how was it made/what was it made of. Elaborating on my previous experience and studies of such things on later Schlachtschwerter, I went for a basic construction of leather glued/stitched over a wood core made of two flat slabs, and force-slid down the blade. There is more than enough friction to keep it well in place, but it is still possible to take it off albeit with some effort. The end of the leather is cut according to period artwork, and flares out to accommodate the mouth of a scabbard if needed. A simple decoration of plain lines on one side, and checkered on the other makes it also consistant with the artwork.

It is 139 cm long, the blade is 1083 mm long, 45 mm wide with a thickness of about 7 mm at its base, tapering down to 3.4 mm near the point. The span of the crossguard is about 21 cm, though from one ball end to the other there's about 73 cm of steel. Weight is 2547 grams, point of balance 13.5 cm from the cross.

Mit ihrem Oberstübchen scheint etwas nicht in Ordnung zu sein, obwohl sie einen wunderschönen Garten angelegt, andere kreative Dinge macht und vielen Hobbies frönt, wie man hört, was für eine Frau recht ungewöhnlich erscheint. Aber das ist nicht normal, nein. Man muss sich dem Trott des Gewöhnlichen fügen und nicht aus dem Rollenbild fallen und nicht nach eigenen Vorstellungen leben. Zugegeben, ohne sie hätten wir nichts zu tuscheln, und mit ihrem Schwarz-Fimmel bringt sie etwas Abwechslung in unser pinkes Leben, das ist schon irgendwie spannend. Man hört, sie sei das heimliche Anstarren gewöhnt, als Teil ihrer bewussten Opposition und Provokation, wie wir Normalos es empfinden. "Stör ich sie oder schade ich Ihnen in irgendeiner Weise?", hat sie einmal gefragt, worauf das Gegenüber ein wenig verlegen wurde und zu stottern begann. Dann setzte sie ein liebenswürdiges Lächeln auf und den Gegner schachmatt.

Sie selber entgegnet: Ich, der ich diesem Wust an Vorurteilen begegne, sage frei heraus: Nun, dann mache ich aus meiner Unangepasstheit eine Religion, nach dem Motto: ist der Ruf erst ruiniert, lebt es sich ganz ungeniert.

Det som stör mig mest med EPA-konversationen är väl att alla snackar om att göra det svårare att ha EPA, men ingen snackar om skälet till att EPA-traktorer är så mycket vanligare på landsbygden, t.ex. för att kollektivtrafiken är ickebefintlig. Jaha, vi vill ha färre EPA-traktorer på vägarna, samtidigt som vi gör det dyrare att åka buss? Låter logiskt, tror absolut att tonåringar kommer sitta hemma och mjölka kor istället xD

Rules: list eight shows for your followers to get to know you better

Sekasin. One of the first shows I properly binged. A lot of fun stuff but also so much hard hitting stuff about mental health and difficult life situations as well.

2. Once Upon A Time. I was watching it when it first started airing. I later rewatched the whole show, including the seasons that I'd missed when it originally aired. Gotta love the very weird and complicated family dynamics. Wasn't the biggest fan of the final season, but over all very entertaining.

3. Supernatural. Nothing left to say that hasn't been said before. Y'all know how it is.

4. Störs av allt (Quicksand). I read the book and actually really liked it. Then found out there was a Netflix series and felt instant dread. However, the casting for this show is on point. Some moments that didn't really hit in the book carried way better on screen too. Maybe the one thing that didn't really translate was the anticipation and air of mystery brought by an unreliable narrator, but ultimately the show makes up for it in other ways.

5. Robin - Täydellinen Ilta. I did actually enjoy the show. Robin can get along with people so easily, so it didn't feel nearly as forced as a lot of other similar talk show concepts.

6. Kätevä Emäntä. A Finnish skit comedy show centered around the mundane lives of housewives. Haven't seen any episodes in a long time, but I still remember a lot of the running gags. It was quuite good.

7. Muumilaakson tarinoita (The Moomins). It's a classic. Honestly a comfort watch.

8. Mythbusters. Obviously. What is there to not love about this show?

Do you know how long it took me to even come up with 8 shows that I have watched? Let alone 8 that I have liked? I don't watch that many shows. Most of these I've watched a long time ago at best.

Det är verkligen intressant att singularis-Ni håller på att återinföras i svenskan lite långsamt, men lite konstigt, eftersom att det används som en hövlighetsmarkör, vilket det ju inte var när det begav sig. Det var formellt, ja, men användes av den högre stående i interaktionen, medan den lägre skulle använda titeln - 'Doktor', 'Magister', Fabrikör', 'Direktör' och så vidare. Det är därför vi har en del fossilisersde passivformer i svenskan som används av ex. servitörer ("önskas det något att dricka", ex) - för att om man tilltalar någon direkt så behövs ju en titel man inte har tillgång till.

Jag stör mig inte av att en hövlighetsmarkör finns i språket, och inte heller över att använda ett annat språk med äldre (det kan också vara att Gäliskans evinnerliga Niande av alla som inte är ens släkt har färgat av sig på mitt eget språkbruk) - jag har alltså inget problem alls med att använda Du för mina generationskamrater och Ni för de äldre, om vi nu skulle komma fram till att det är det vi ska göra - men att återinföra ett sådant titulerande som det var innan Du-reformen vore verkligen ett bakslag, både för vår redan styltade förmåga att tala med främlingar och för språkets begriplighet, för att inte tala om den underdånighet inför överheten som sådana regler universaliserar genom språket.

Varje fucking vecka ser jag artiklar i tidningen om att det tydligen är någon kontrovers om hundar ska få följa med in på restauranger eller inte? Och att butiksägare som säger nej är horribla människor?? Like my guy det är ett val som alla andra, det är djur, det är ingen jävla bebis ni blir portade från att ta med

Nu har jag redan beef med doggo culture så det räcker o blir över men det är faktiskt lite löjligt att vi kontinuerligt ska bete oss som att hundar är speciellt priviligerade över alla andra djur bara för att fler idioter skaffade de när de inte hade något bättre för sig

Länge sen vi hördes av

Vi båda har nya på riktigt nu. Det känns fint. Men det stör mig ändå. Tänker ändå om det är förhållanden som är här för att lära oss något eller om jag ska lägga allt mitt hopp i den jag träffats ömkande händer. Han älskar mig det vet jag. Men han ser också att jag svävar iväg, han hör hur mina vänner ibland nämner dig i förbifarten och hur jag då blir simmig i blicken.

Kan jag bara sluta tänka på dig?

Weil mir gerade noch ein Titel eingefallen ist, noch einer für dich: "Leise rieselt der Schnee" (als Kontrastprogramm zur Hitze der kommenden Tage)

Oh, da fühle ich mich gleich etwas kühler :3 Danke für den Prompt!

Leo ist Stratege, er denkt nach, bevor er handelt, er macht Pläne, Auswertungen, er analysiert. Er kann das, das ist eine seiner besten Eigenschaften und er weiß das auch.

Er weiß aber auch, wo er versagt: beim Weihnachtsgeschenkekaufen.

Was für ein Horror, jedes Jahr wieder, Geschenke für Menschen kaufen, die alles haben und sich den Rest leisten können. Das in zu jeder Uhrzeit überfüllten Innenstädten mit genervten Menschen, die ebenso ziellos umherirren wie Leo auch. Und dazu ist das Wetter auch noch Scheiße. Wann gab es das letzte Mal bitteschön richtig schönen Schnee? Dicke, weiße Flocken, die vom Himmel fallen und die Welt in schönen Puderzucker tauchen.

Nö, nicht in Saarbrücken.

Entsprechend genervt ist Leo, bekommt es aber irgendwie hin, sich um Geschenke und Weihnachtsessen zu kümmern, für das er dieses Jahr zuständig ist. Weil er in eine neue, größere Wohnung mit Terrasse und Garten gezogen ist, in einer lauschigen Wohngegend. Na danke auch.

Es ist Heiligabend, seine Mama, sein Papa und Caro kugelrund gesättigt, als es klingelt. Leo geht zur Tür und öffnet sie, erst gar nicht wissend, wer dort steht, weil sein Blick nach oben fällt, auf die dicken, weißen Flocken, die leise rieseln und wie Welt in eben jenes Wunderland getaucht haben, was er seit seiner Kindheit vermisst hatte. Im Schein der Laternen fallen sie und bilden weiße Hütchen, die Flocken, überall wo sie hinfallen.

Auch auf den Mann, der vor ihm steht, die Augen so erschrocken und die Haare voller Puderzucker. Einzelne Flocken verfangen sich an den Wimpern und Adam blinzelt.

"Ich dachte, du wärst nicht da", sagt er wie zur Rechtfertigung und Leo nickt in Richtung des Lärms aus seiner Wohnung.

"Meine Familie ist da, ich war fürs Weihnachtsessen zuständig", erwiderte er und wartet, was Adam möchte. Dieser schaut verlegen zur Seite.

"Dann stör ich nicht. Sorry."

Leo lächelt und ein paar der leisen Gesellen verirren sich auf seine Arme. "Das tust du nicht. Möchtest du hereinkommen?"

"Also ehrlich, ich möchte wirklich nicht..."

Leo erkennt, was er ganz am Anfang in Adams Gesicht gesehen hat. Eine Emotion, die er oft schon gesehen hat, seitdem Adam wieder hier ist und seitdem sein Vater wieder aufgewacht ist.

Einsamkeit und der Wunsch nach guter Gesellschaft, die ihm nicht wehtut. Adam verbalisiert sie normalerweise nicht von sich aus, das übernimmt Leo. Zumindest solange, bis er Adam deutlich gemacht hat, dass er ihm nicht mehr böse ist.

"Komm rein", bestimmt Leo und macht den Weg frei. Er nickt verbindlich und auf der Arbeit wäre es eine Weisung. Hier ist es der nötige Anstoß, den Adam braucht, Hoffnung in seinen blauen Augen.
