Yule Log

Getting caught up in work, it’s easy to forget to have time for yourself, especially during the holidays. She’s heard a lot of concerns and reminders from her coworkers, and all of them went by her head saying she’s “relaxed a bit.”

It was her day off, and she had been fighting off the urge to work through celebrating Christmas. Or, in her case, Yule. Now, she wouldn’t say she was a witch. She liked magic, but magic in a world full of technology isn’t known too much.

Why do magic when you have many robots already doing stuff for you? Well for starters, they don’t know how to make a proper Yule log. Which is exactly what Emilyn is doing to celebrate her day off.

Sure she had to go some shopping for some of the things needed, but a little shopping never hurt her. Her table was dawned in bright red plaid, courtesy of Djenne and its amazing fabrics, with a fresh wooden log and other things.

Emilyn hummed to herself, holding a knife as she approached the table. With the log in her hands, she began to carefully carve holes big enough for the candles to fit. The wood emanated a nice scent, and she couldn’t help but close her eyes to admire it all. Her mouth moved on its own, just mumbling a song she remembered hearing while scrolling through YouTube earlier.

“God rest ye merry, pagan folk,

Let nothing you dismay.

Remember that the Sun returns

Upon this Solstice day.

The growing dark is ending now

And Spring is on its way.

Oh, tidings of comfort and joy,

Before Emilyn could continue singing, the distant noises of an aerial jet had caught the wind in her ears. Her hands stopped carving and she opened her eyes, looking towards a nearby window to see a familiar face smirk at her. “I didn’t think you’d stop by today, Starscream.” Emilyn approached the window, opening it to look at his face.

“My plans haven’t been the greatest this year, and I’m tired. What better way to relax than to accompany my little moon~?” He said slyly, Emilyn blushing just a bit as he moved a digit to caress her cheek. “You’re lucky I’m in a good mood to handle your flirts. Might as well come in.” Starscream smirked, drawing back his digit and walking to her door. Emilyn closed her window and opened the door, the Decepticon now mass displaced.

It wouldn’t be long before Starscream took notice of Emilyn’s little project, and he walked over with curiosity. “What are you making here?” Emilyn turned, smiling just a little bit before taking a seat back down. “It’s a yule log, just something to celebrate for this year…” Her words slightly drifted when turning to face Starscream, confusion glinted slightly in his crimson optics. “Oh, right… You’re probably not aware of Yule or Christmas, huh?”

“No, I’m not. Perhaps you can give me some insight later…” The Decepticon spoke, grabbing a chair of his own to sit next to Emilyn. She chuckled, keeping that as a mental note in the back of her mind. “Alright well, you can watch what I’m doing if you want. Up to you.” With that, Emilyn got back to carving, and Starscream watched intently, curiosity soon drifting towards the other items around her. There were a few candles, greenery branches of pine and cedar, not to mention dried fruits and pinecones.

“Quite the inventory of primitive materials, but what does one do with all of this?” Starscream spoke, plucking a pine branch in between his fingers to get a feel. Emilyn turned towards him, grabbing that branch and placing it back into the nearby pile. “You decorate this log, and supposedly it brings good luck and warmth to those who light the candles. It also wards off bad energy from harming you.” Ah, superstitious stuff. He should’ve guessed. “Peh, superstitious and magical nonsense. Humans are weird.”

That was enough to have Emilyn frown at Starscream, who laughed and smirked. “Well, not nonsense to you, my dear.” She rolled her eyes, grabbing the nearby hot glue gun and the pine branch he was fiddling with earlier. “Does magic not exist as a concept to you guys?” She turned to face Starscream, who placed a couple of digits on his chin in thought. “Not as much as you’d like to think. It exists in concept, but it was never said to be shown.” Huh, so it did exist in some way at least.

“That makes sense, given you and the Autobots are from a planet of metal, right?” Starscream nodded, albeit frowned a bit at the mention of the Autobots. “Magic can’t exist in a place that has metal, or iron. One of the two.” Emilyn spoke, Starscream watching carefully with curious optics as she glued the various nature pieces she had gathered onto the log. “I like to believe that even within today’s times, there’s still magic in this world. Hell, there might be pixies and fairies dancing outside my house right now and I wouldn’t even know it.”

Starscream looked in quiet awe seeing the once naked log now adorned in pine branches and dried fruits, not to mention the interesting scent it gave off. It surely was something magical, but it felt like something was also missing. Luckily, Emilyn was just about to get to that when grabbing ahold of the long candles. “Alright, I’m gonna need your help on this one. You’re gonna hold these perfectly still while I add glue onto the bottom.” The Decepticon looked in confusion but grabbed one of the candles nonetheless. It felt waxy amongst his digits, but it was a nice shade of red. He watched as Emilyn took the glue gun, adding a nice warm dollop to the bottom.

“What do you do once you’re done with this… ‘yule log’?” He asked curiously, Emilyn moving the glue gun away to glue the sides of the holes she carved out earlier. “Well, you just kinda leave it somewhere nice to burn until the end of Christmas. There’s not much else to it.” He nods, Emilyn taking the candle and placing it on the far right. “Only two more and then we’re done.”

“Maybe after we’re finished, I can explain Yule to you.” Hearing that, Starscream smirked lightly and chuckled.

He’d appreciate that very much.

Telescope

“So… you humans use this device to view space?”

An airy and light pollution free sky was the best to view the stars at night, and that wasn’t often thanks to the robots and bright lights in Detroit. Sure the city shines beautifully from a distance, but the real beauty are the stars above.

That’s what Emilyn believed really, and tonight was a perfect night to view the stars alongside Starscream. The Decepticon watching her fiddle with the settings on a telescope she had recently bought.

Thank god for living outside of the city in a nice huge cabin in the woods.

“It’s called a telescope, they’ve been around for a long time. Since the 1600’s with Galileo, actually.” Emilyn said, wiping off some sweat from her brow. Starscream nodded, smirking just a teensy bit.

“Back on Cybertron, this kind of technology would be seen as useless. Some of us had optics that allowed us to see deeper into the stars than normal!” He raised a digit to tap the side of his head near his optic, Emilyn turned around to face him with a half smile.

“Really now? Can you see which planet is in orbit then, the one right there?” Pointing a finger towards the brightest star she could find, Starscream looked up and squinted his crimson optics just a bit. After what felt like a minute or two, he stopped squinting.

“I believe it's what you humans refer to as the planet ‘Venus’.” He says, and Emilyn’s half smile turns into one of surprise. “For once, you aren’t lying.” That brought a big smirk to Starscream’s face, Emilyn shaking her head and turning back to finish up the settings.

“You know, you shouldn’t bother with that ‘telescope’ if you plan to view the cosmos.” That got Emilyn’s attention again, and she turned towards Starscream with a confused look. “What, are you suggesting I point out stars and you look at them for me? Don’t you think that’d get boring?”

Starscream’s smirk disappeared hearing that, Emilyn now fully facing away from the telescope with crossed arms. “It may be boring to you, but I don’t know anything about these planets. Learning alongside my little moon would be… interesting~..” Emilyn felt her cheeks flush up hearing that nickname, and it didn’t help when Starscream lifted a claw underneath her chin to face him.

The fact that his optics were shimmering slightly from the night sky didn’t help, and she quickly covered her face with her cap out of embarrassment. Starscream was smirking evilly as a result, it didn’t take much to convince Emilyn so long as he played his cards right.

“...Fine, just let me disassemble the telescope first.”

Love - What terms of endearment/nicknames do you like to call your f/os? what about vice versa? do you have any that hold a special meaning?

Starlo – Most of his nicknames for me or for the others in the polycule are a bit silly but still endearing nonetheless! The most common ones are Shooting Star, Starshine, and Sweetstar, but for others he'll call them the first thing that pops into head.

He calls Starscream 'Screaming Star' for example. It makes Starscream both annoyed and very flustered, and it's adorable!

Starscream – He doesn't use endearing terms unless in private given his ego, but he does have nicknames for everyone! They can come off as a little mean, but everyone knows Starscream shows his love a bit different.

An example is that he calls Starlo 'Starfool' (ironic), and it always makes the Decepticon smirk when Starlo steps up a notch and the two try to outdo each other.

Figure – While Figure's not good at talking just yet, (they have enough sentience to understand words and pass a harkness test!) I like to think it would have both a mix of endearing petnames and general nicknames for everyone in the polycule.

One that comes to mind is 'Starboy' for Starlo, a mixed nickname of Star and Cowboy! :)

Darling - Is there anything you hold close because it reminds you of your f/o? what about them?

I like to hold onto a lotta things from everyone in my polycule, so I'll list off a few or so items for the three in this question!

For Starlo, I like to hold onto his poncho and a star badge of his when he's off dury doing farmwork or just taking a day off from sheriff work. The poncho smells very fragrant due to some cologne he wears, and the badge is verg shiny with his initials carved into it. ⭐️💛

For Starscream, it's a piece of an Allspark Shard he entrusted me with. (I made it into a necklace charm for safekeeping!) He's surprised that the Allspark still keeps him alive to this day, but he entrusts me wuth a shard in the case his current one gets taken or dies out.

And finally for Figure, There's... a lot of things. It one brought me a book that I could barely read due to scribbles and decayed ink, while another was a wooden crucifix broken in half.

I often hide the latter away because Gabriel, being the archangel he is and him seeing Figure as an abomination created from God's mistakes, You could probably imagine the rage he'd feel seeing a shattered crucifix.

Fanfaronade - what would your f/o say when bragging about you to others?

Starscream wouldn't brag about Emilyn out to others, even if he's alone in public. There's a good chance an autobot or decepticon might pick up on his rambling, not to mention it'd ruin his reputation to hear him bragging about his love!

He only brags about it when she's around, if he's around his clones, or if he's just completely alone.

Serendipity - how did you first discover your f/o, or your f/os source material? how did you feel when you first saw your f/o in your source material? 

When I first developed a crush on Starscream (specifically TFA Starscream), it was at the time I was also a huge fan of spongebob growing up. I recognized the two shared a similar voice, but unlike spongebob I developed a love at first sight childhood crush with the bastard seeker.

Albeit... there was some complications with that crush further down along growing up. Unsupervised internet access as a child can lead you to some... not so friendly stuff, especially with Transformers at the time. I had to take a break from the fandom for a couple of years due to watching things that traumatized me (sadly, some of them even had Starscream in them.)

But, the brightside was that I discovered more Transformers shows and other people who weren't as edgy humor as others that I saw before. (Not to mention my current love for all iterations of Starscream aside from TFA) Eventually I was able to come back to the fandom less traumatized, and my crush for Starscream eventually became what it is now. ❤️

"Any of Lady Gaga's songs. It's a no brainer either cause I saw him dancing to Applause yesterday."

"It doesn't really count as spying if you're blasting it enough for me to hear upstairs."

"Starscream has laughed more than I have in a while. I don't know what he finds funny, but so long as he isn't sour..."

I like to imagine that at some point in their relationship (nearing the end of S1 for example), Starscream accidentally crashed into something while outrunning the Autobots because he couldn't get Emilyn off of his mind.

This marks the beginning of his stupidity to realize he was falling in love with a human girl.

10. Constantly saying “i love you” or Only say “i love you” during really serious/romantic moments?

Starscream tries to reserve saying I love you for when him & Emilyn are alone. Whether serious or romantic, he doesn't want to let it be known by others that he does have a soft spot for his little moon.

13. Stay at home dates or Out on the town dates?

A mix of both, actually! Emilyn's taken him out to parks (in holoform of course!) and even a beach themepark boardwalk! But if there's a case where Star doesn't want to go out, then the two will have a fun date at home via cuddling or Emilyn showing him videos on the internet to watch.

3. Heavy, hot, and passionate kisses or Soft, sweet, and tender kisses?

It depends on his (and Emilyn's) mood too. Most of the kisses are soft and sweet, short too if both of them are in a hurry somewhere. But there have been times where Starscream would get jealous anytime he'd see Emilyn interacting with other people.

She was flustered for an entire night when she came home and he gave her a heavy, passionate kiss. It was all because he got jealous and a bit possessive.

8. Constantly bragging about dating each other or Keeping the relationship relatively secretive?

They have to keep their relationship a secret. It started off with Emilyn getting some pity for Starscream after he was injured by the Allspark (and Professor Princess painting on him), and letting him crash at her place.

It also doesn't help that he's bring hunted down by any other cybertronians who want him dead later on. So he and Emilyn gotta remain hush hush on their relationship due to this.

20. Value anniversaries/important relationship dates or Nah?

They both try to value anniversaries through special dates, but often times Emilyn can get caught up in her work that Starscream has to pluck her and stop her from going into another workaholic daze.

But in short answer: Yes they do special dates.

1. Nose kisses or Forehead kisses?

Forehead kisses. It gives Starscream an excuse to gently caress Emilyn's face with a finger (or his entire servo if he's mass displaced / using his holoform) and chuckle watching her face light up in embarrassment.

4. Spooning or One person laying their head on the other’s chest?

Emilyn often lays on top of his chest given his size. But if Starscream's around her size via mass displacement or holoform, he'll spoon her because he's slightly taller than Emilyn.

15. Formal/Fancy wedding or Casual wedding?

It's a hard decision at first. On one hand, Starscream wants to give Emilyn the best wedding she could ever have. She is dating the future Supreme Leader of The Decepticons afterall, so she deserves the greatest.

But on the other hand, too much formality or fanciness could draw attention that Starscream nor Emilyn would want. The last thing any of them (especially Starscream) would want is to be surprise attacked by an Autobot, a Decepticon, or hell even Bounty Hunters.

17. Love at first sight or Slow burn?

A slow burn between the both of them. Both of them didn't know if they could trust each other, but at the same time it was obvious one shared concern for the other. Not to mention a lot of their goals and traits are similar on a lot of levels.

In the end, despite the hardships both Emilyn and Starscream face, they manage to make it alive and they love each other at the end very much.

Never in my life did I think I'd be listening to a Trolls World Tour song while imagining Starscream & Emilyn flying through the air happily while Star's clones sing in the background in harmony but I am-

Emilyn's eyes are probably sparkling in awe and happiness while Starscream's dancing with her in the air, having to hold her close just so she won't plummet, or if she's lucky, one of his clones could catch her!

Bit of a suggestive(?) selfship thought but I'm just thinking about how much it boosts Starscream's ego everytime he gets Emilyn from stubborn to flustered...

One second she's pouting at him and turning her head away, the next she's a bright pink from the tip of her ears cause Star tilted her chin to face him with a single finger while whispering into her ear about how he loves seeing her blush and that he's more than willing to fluster her even more.
