The worst part is that Dean thinks he's helping, he's being a good friend, he's being supportive but he doesn't understand the depth of pain and fear and anxiety that Team and Win share. Dean was hoping for a sweet answer, something straightforward, something kind. But he got Team's answer instead and that answer is the plainest truth tempered with a fear of lose and a fear of overstepping.

Dean asks a question expecting the kind of answer Pharm gives but gets what Team gives and you can watch him regret the question in real time.

Team overheard Win tell Dean and Pruk that he didn’t know how he felt, and then Win told Team directly that he needed more time before labeling what he feels, and then Team almost drowned, and now Team seems to just want Win to spell it out to him because Team has used up all his confidence tokens.

Whereas Win thinks the ball is in Team’s court and “it’s up to him”.

The writing for the series is solid because both of their hesitations are so well set up in previous episodes. Neither of them is stupid, they’re just terrified and traumatized and they take enormous comfort from each other that they’ve never gotten from anyone else, and the thought of risking that is petrifying.

I love you, favorite series.

And I am back with another consent appreciation post because this one is just... it's??? ????

We start off in the bathroom right? Team is so fucking innocent about this interaction that it's adorable. I mean, Team, baby. Read the room. You know that he doesn't need to use the bathroom.

And then the gears start working in his head after Win: i've come to see you.

And cue the intense sexual tension.

Win approaches Team, his body just giving off massive 'we about to fuck' vibes, and he just waits for Team to react, to back away, to reject his advances. And then...

He kisses him when he is sure that it was okay with Team. But Davi, they always kiss without consent. Listen, I'm a big fan of asking consent for kisses okay, big fan. But it just means much more (imo) to get consent for it when it's in this context? Sure, they haven't even had sex yet, but it still matters, okay?!

And then Win verbally asks.

And he has Team so much so at a loss for words, he pauses for like a good 5-10 seconds to give Team enough time to process and answer him.

And during this time his eyes never leave Team's, which is such an important thing because Team (that i've noticed) can speak words that even god would believe, but his eyes are terrible at it (lying or otherwise). I think Win notices it, because he often holds eye contact with Team when he is asking for consent to have sex with him.

So when Team doesn't give Win any sign of it not being okay, he dives right on it man, in record time.

It was honestly such a sexy ass moment from the consent king. Don't argue with me. Purely raw horny ass consent king was hot.

Bonus:

This was a first for Win. The spontaneous public bathroom sex, I mean. I mean, this boy done guzzled some alocohol for confidence. Adorable ass.

i loved how win was so into it, he was literally panting, breathless, could barely hold himself back from touching team, and yet he still cleared up any misunderstandings about pharm and team's relationship

and asked for team's consent.

many times.

in fact he didn't just ask, even a drunk person can lie about being drunk, but he tested him.

and then,

he wanted to make sure team wasn't just a drunk and horny boy making horny decisions, that he wouldn't be there with just anyone, that he's there because it's win who's offering.

at this point it's a one night stand, win is intrigued by this new kid, team is attracted to his senior, but because win care, he opened up the possibility of it becoming more later.

Win isn't jealous but he is possessive. There is a difference and I'll explain it.

Jealous- Suspecting rivalry in love; troubled by worries that one might have been replaced in someone's affections; suspicious of a lover or spouse's fidelity. Jealous is about something you don't have.

Possessiveness- Pertaining to ownership or possession. Possessive is about something you possess.

That's the simple definition of jealousy. It often comes with a negative connotation instead of viewed as the complex emotion that we all have. While it can be an uncomfortable emotion to feel, it isn't necessarily bad. Too much of anything can be unhealthy, but a little jealousy is not bad or unhealthy from time to time. Being jealous doesn’t make someone a bad person. It can provide us with important information about our true desires, clues about where we might want to turn our attention, and get motivated.

If taken too far, possessiveness can become a serious issue that leads to other relationship problems. However, a little isn't necessarily bad and especially not in a relationship in which both parties want it AND there is trust. Look at the definition that I've given above and then think of a D/s relationship. There absolutely is an element of possessiveness. Generally from both parties and they both agree to it and enjoy different aspects of it. Just because it doesn't work for your relationship doesn't mean it's okay to label it wrong across the board.

The problem with possessiveness only arises when one partner is possessive about the other without consideration of what the other person wants. This is where possessive behavior becomes abusive and unacceptable.

I personally would not be with a partner or consider a friend close if they did not display possessiveness. I have too many hurts and too many walls to waste my time on people who don't value me. Is my time and attention valuable to you? Then prove it.

Example: Any time someone eats with me. Phones get put down and are not touched. This goes for my husband and friends. I'm not jealous of anyone they could be talking to. I am possessive of the time that I have with them.

Win is not jealous of Team and his friendships. He is possessive of the time in which he has with Team. He wants his time and attention but not to an unhealthy amount. He doesn't take Team away from Pharm when he is crying, demanding that he instead give him attention. He doesn't go to the bar and drag Team out despite knowing he is probably getting pretty drunk. No, he waits so that he can take care of him once he is done. When Team lied about having class, Win could have gone with it and had more time with Team, but he didn't. He encouraged what was best for Team instead. What's more, if you pay attention. You can clearly see that Team appreciates this.

There is something just so funny about how drastically different WinTeams open house day ends compared to DeanPharms…

If we draw evidence from UWMA and BU we have open house day (Dean and Pharm kiss for the first time, so like it’s a big day for them) ending with Pharm meeting everyone at the dunk tanks, Win inviting everyone out for dinner, everyone going out for dinner, Dean and Pharm experiencing the biggest revelation/breakthrough in their relationship thus far due to a conversation about the red thread and, as expected, crying about it. Then to top off the evening we have the most chaste little kiss.

Then one assumes that at some point (either after dinner or previously during the day that we just didn’t see) Team and Win were invited out for drinks with the ABC’s, where there is more deep emotional conversation about proving to someone you love them… Then Win and Team end up banging in the bathroom… just… the contrast… it couldn’t BE more different 😂

So there’ve been two important subtitles in Between Us that Thai speakers (not me) have offered different and more nuanced translations for.

The first one is in episode two before their kiss by the pool. The subtitle in iQiYi and SWS’s uncut membership episode reads: “Kiss me.”

According to Thai speakers, what he actually says is more like, “Can I kiss you?” or even, “I’m going to kiss you, okay?”

The second example is in episode seven before they go into the bathroom stall. The subtitle reads, “Can I?”

According to some Thai speakers, what he says is literally along the lines of, “Please give (me),” or, “Can you give to me?” Basically he’s asking permission again, and I’m guessing by Team being the one to close the bathroom door behind them that it wasn’t phrased in a way that Team’s silence left Win unclear on whether Team consents or not.

Basically, if you’re in doubt about what’s being said or whether someone’s doing something dubious by the subtitles, check with a Thai speaker before you make a judgment call, because the subtitles are sometimes the dubious one, not the character. It’s just good to keep in mind that Thai and English have some major differences, and it’s possible that the translator isn’t a native English speaker or else they’re overworked and not thinking about the potential consensual problems that crop up in the difference between “kiss me” and “can I kiss you”, especially if they’ve got a lot on their plate to work on, y’know?
