Ruben has (wild magic?) sorc levels: the post

Ruben has fewer bard levels than Oisin has wizard levels.

Ruben's bardic during the fight with Grix was a d8. This limits him to a maximum of 9 bard levels. (Level 10 Bards get a d10 bardic). Whereas, the tattoos that Oisin talked about at the party have effects that match Focused Conjuration, which Conjuration wizards get at level 10.

There's other points I have about this, like "the RGs shouldn't be underleveled compared to the BKs, otherwise uhh what's the point." I believe people have also mapped out how Mary Ann could get the modifier that she needed to wipe the field with Gorgug so hard and she would also probably be higher level than 9.

I think Oisin is the most clear proof of a discrepancy though. So, either Ruben is underleveled compared to other members of his party, not even just the BKs, or he's a multiclasser.

But which other class?

I am going to assume for a second that he's an official multiclasser who actually attends classes.

In that case it's probably not any of the classes where the BKs have had actual scenes this year. And thanks to Fig they've covered a few. There's only Druid, Ranger, Monk, and Sorc that the BKs haven't covered at all. (I think technically he could be attending Fighter classes and it's justified that Brennan shouldn't have mentioned it because Fabian wasn't really focusing on that. )

But honestly looking at the list, and looking at Ruben, I feel like I don't even have to justify why I think it's probably Sorcerer.

The situation with Jace also makes somewhat more sense (though still sinister sense) if that's actually supposed to be his mentor. "Veteran educators" A vice principal is an administrator. Now yes that whole convo was very "digging at a way, any way, to shut Henry up" . And yes, it was phrased in a very. "We're monitoring everything." Educators, plural. Speaking on behalf of the school, kind of thing. But also Ruben's Bard teacher is on sabbatical? (Which might've been a concern in the letter lol.) I dunno, there's a lot going on here. Also it does make sense to go to Jace with concerns anyway, bc every other adult Henry could talk to has vanished. Including Ruben's Bard teacher, thanks to Fig.

But like. The fuck? He's getting that riled on someone else's behalf? I think the scene reads cleaner if Jace is Ruben's teacher. However he's obviously getting unreasonably aggro either way, so he might just be that much more unreasonably aggro that this is in defense of Lucilla Lullaby. But say that he is a sorc. Which subclass? There's a couple that would be cool. But Wild Magic has one edge on the others. It would give Ruben a reason not to have used any spell slots against Grix. He probably had to use his Action to rock every turn. But he used a bonus action to give a bardic, so he should still be able to cast bonus action spells. Except if he's a wild magic sorcerer, then if he uses a spell slot he could end up casting Fireball on the stage or necromantically draining his whole band, etc. Counterpoint: he used some kind of illusion earlier. Probably true! So maybe he's not a wild magic subclass, or maybe he has a magic item. Or maybe he just had everyone stand far enough away from him to probably be safe when he cast that.

I won't be hugely shocked if this turns out not to be true. But in the meantime I've realized that I have just sort of accepted that it is (at least the sorc part), and I assume that it's true when I think about the scene with Henry etc.

Not gonna get into danganronpa another spoilers because this whole scene is something else that I’m still processing but I absolutely love this line. Like to bring up milgram I think this is an idea which can reflect on lots of the characters as well. The idea of basing your entire existence off of a certain thing/person/ideology and then for something to happen that completely destroys that. Your entire person has been stripped away and just what’s left? You can’t comprehend your own existence or meaning without that specific attachment and you start to question all of your actions based off that…

I can only really think of John, Kotoko, and Es here (and possibly Amane and Mikoto to an extent). And John bases his life off of Mikoto, Kotoko upholding justice, and Es being the warden.

John’s idea of his whole existence and reason for being is Mikoto. It’s the only reason he believes he exists and if he were to fulfill his role he’d “disappear” as he would be completely worthless without him. John tries to repress and ignore his humanity and reduce himself as a tool to protect Mikoto and that’s all he can see himself as. But now Mikoto’s starting to not deny his existence and feels pure hatred for everything about him. And what will happen to John, when the person he’s dedicated his entire life to and desperately wants praise from, denies his existence? What will he be but some worthless existence that is only a burden, to him.

Kotoko. An ideology of upholding justice and punishing evil that has completely overtaken her. She has pushed herself into a role of a “fang” for justice, protecting the weak and persecuting evil. But even so matter how much she tries, she knows her goals are unreachable. She denies relationships and attachments to other people based on this ideology. Kotoko admits that she does feel attachment to the prisoners, but has to deny them in order to fulfill the role as a tool. And believes that pain and violence is necessary to achieving a greater good. Trying to deny any regret because wouldn’t it be easier to believe you’re entirely in the right? She latched onto Es, believing them to be similar as the warden who carries out judgement on wether the prisoners are forgivable or not. But now, Es has denied her whole ideology, her whole existence due to the pain she’s caused. Kotoko wants to believe that what she did was right and that Es, another enforcer of justice would accept her, because that’s how it is.

And Es… they’re the warden of the prison. There’s nothing more to them than that they believe. Es has no memories of their identity or past before Milgram and immediately latched onto the identity given to them, of being the guard. Es took this role as their entire identity, an extension of the milgram system in order to interrogate and judge prisoners. I think Muu put this best.

“Warden-san, we call you "warden" because that's what you are, right? And I was assigned the role of prisoner, but that doesn't mean I'm now nothing but a prisoner at heart, too. After all, I'm still me.”

Es has an unstable sense of identity, to the point they latched on to the first thing they were given in order to give themselves a purpose and a meaning for existence. And Kotoko calling them “imperfect caused them to question their identity. But as the story progresses Es will probably begin to learn about the audiences control and the truth behind what they assumed to be their verdicts. That their will never was 100% their own. Who knows what Es’ past was, but eventually they’ll likely have to tackle it and their whole identity, the warden, the arms of milgram, is gone.

gonna think about Mikoto and Amane here as well. Mikoto, although may not seem to be as first, focuses his entire identity around other people. He’s the friendly sociable guy who’s easy to chat with. But that’s all he believes he should be, I guess. As perhaps this mindset is upheld by an inherent fear of other people rejecting him, so he focuses all his attention and identity on being a social person. He’s never truly friends with people, as perhaps that would be “too close” and open up the possibility for danger. He doesn’t completely deny his identity like the others, but he molds and shapes it in a way that is acceptable to others. He likes what everyone else likes and does what everyone else does so the fear of being rejected for being different won’t hurt him. But now he’s stopped denying John’s existence and his DID, believing himself to be crazy, and to be completely rejected from other people, his entire sense of identity to an extent. And especially with John scaring other people off with the mindset that will help Mikoto, he has now been completely distanced from everyone else and now has to come to terms with himself, but not the ideal persona he put on to be acceptable to other people.

Amane is a more different case as she in a way has rejected that idea, but not completely. Growing up in a cult it’s very likely that she was always conditioned that she was just a servant for god. That all the good things she did were actually god blessing her and all the bad things a fault of her humanity, herself as a person. She is in a unstable relationship with the whole submitting her personhood to her religion, as she sacrificed her ideologies in order to help a cat. But at the core, that wasn’t about herself and her identity, rather a focus on the cat’s life. Amane’s murder was her will. Rejecting everything and fighting for her life in direct opposition to what she has been taught her entire life and how her identity should be, a rejection of that and a glance into “herself”. But once again, this murder wasn’t entirely self motivated. She’s still broken enough that she can’t fully grasp herself as a person besides god and religion. And a large cause of her murder was out of the death of the cat, rather than simply protecting herself. Amane still slips back into the belief that her personhood is entirely dedicated to god. As she tried to convince herself and Es that the only reason she killed is because they deserved religious punishment and she is in the right for carrying out god’s will, once again denying her personal reason for doing so. Reducing herself to “we” on behalf of her religion, that this isn’t herself anymore. Amane is in a limbo between rejecting her personhood for god, but at the same time rejecting the suffering she’s been through in order to save “herself”. Amane’s case is so interesting, as there’s no clear answer of what she believes in here, and it is truly fascinating.

I See the Light (Mike’s Version)

when the theater guy WHAT

I went to see the FNaF Movie today and seeing as I have a total of Zero friends in real world event range and both of my parents hate horror I had to go to the theater by myself for the very first time in my life, which was fine. Until it wasn't

The dude in charge of ticket checks stops me and instead of asking to see a ticket asks if the mask I was wearing was part of some costume. Little black cloth face mask, covid thing. He was an old man on a scooter and not wanting to have a discussion with this tiny old man about Covid19 I just went along with it and said sure yeah. It kind of was anyway, it has a little bear mouth on it and I was wearing Bear Ears and a brown cardigan as well.

Man goes "You can't wear a mask in here." I say "Why not?" He says "You can't wear a mask in here." I go, "I heard that part. Why Not. "Policy, I don't make the rules, just enforce them." I realize this man is being paid minimum wage to sit here and police people so I go, "Okay." and walk past him because he's just some guy in a little scooter in the middle of the atrium and he hasn't asked for my ticket so I assume that's Not His Job

He calls me back for my ticket so I take out my phone with the QR code with my ticket on it and he takes my phone to (I assumed) scan the code and then he pulls out his walkie and calls his manager and I realize very quickly he is not scanning my ticket and I want to Leave Now.

"Can I have my phone back?" "When my manager gets here."

"Give me my phone back." "When my manager gets here."

"Bill. Give me. My Phone." "As soon as my manager gets here"

I make a swipe to grab my phone from him and this tiny little 60 something man in a scooter in the middle of a theater atrium as the audacity to hold it back over his head like I am a Toddler he is preventing from grabbing at a knife.

I am now having a panic attack.

Manager walks over and I am a broken little Autistic man who just wanted to watch a Bad Horror Movie (it was actually pretty good) so I scream at this lanky probably 30-something in the middle of a Cinemark Theater Atrium with many a random bystander around "TELL HIM. TO GIVE ME. MY PHONE."

I swipe my phone from Bill's hand, full turn, and bolt out the door half way across the parking lot and call my mother in a heap on the sidewalk.

It's a very good thing the Five Nights at Freddy's movie was way better than I was expecting or today would have been awful.

This man is very locked on rules and had no common sense apparently #He gave us complimentary tickets after that so that was neat I guess #Anyway. The FNaF movie's good. #I enjoyed it a LOT better than I've enjoyed any of the games #I really was expecting a trash show like the books but man. Man #It was fun. #Not scary like at all but. Very fun. #You could go in knowing nothing about FNaF and come out with the most baseline knowledge which is fun #A good straightforward starting point #However I was disappointment in the lack of Autistic Children talking through the movie!!! so i was just sort of talking at my sister (as one does with a hyperfixation) about reed's relationship with the royals. about how bb and medusa seem to be pretty close to him (and sue, but i digress), and how even maximus ended up on friendly terms with him when he was an,,, honorary member of the illuminati for a little bit that one time.

and i was thinking, surely, maximus thought of reed as just that annoying guy his brother and sister-in-law talked about sometimes, and helped them imprison max. i don't imagine he thought highly of that guy at all.

and then he ends up in the illuminati, and actually talks to him, and realizes that this guy is also a genius and gets how he thinks and operates. so now he has to deal with thinking "oh no he IS cool" about that guy that helped his brother beat him up a couple years prior

Time Loop Fuckery in Stranger Things Part II

Part I

#byler #stranger things #the way they talk about time is so interesting to me #bc has it been one minute… #or has it been mf infinity going through this silly charade #also this is part II to the previous part bc both scenes deal with this concept of a starting point/reset that I’ve noticed consistently #the first time it’s hopper on the couch sleeping #while Joyce is looking in the couch for the keys #the second time (that I know of) is in s3 when Joyce is helping hopper after getting beat up #instead of explaining how the hell she got him there #she uses vague phrases acknowledging that technically it would be near impossible for her to have dragged an unconscious Jim #and so she says stuff like #a while #and #slowly #as if us getting to these different check points is an infinite feat in and of itself #as if they’ve done this thousands of times already… #and so this reference to time in this scene and how one minute is one minute too long… #really interesting thing for someone to say who might be in a time loop… #also why is Murray acting like an NPC in this scene #the scene ending with Joyce waking up Alexei on the couch #really ties it all together tho #something so interesting about this concept of waking up as a starting point/reset #bc when a person wakes up they often have no clue who/what/where they are upon waking up #it takes a minute to collect oneself #and so once you realize what/where/how you are that’s when you go along with what you discover and go about your day #aka a reset is best for that situation bc everyone would likely play along #also reminds me of hopper waking up freaked that one time #bc he connected the dots something was off the moment he woke up and started looking for bugs in his trailer…

#okay so here’s the thing is that a hardware store near me is having a big sale this weekend and there’s a few things that I had been eyeing #and researching for my home that are on sale like my living room / kitchen have really tall ceilings and I’d need an extra tall ladder to #get up there to change lightbulbs check the fire alarm and paint and they have one on sale from like 160 to 120 tomorrow that seems like a #good choice and I need a random orbital sander for some projects like sanding the wood planks that we are going to use to replace my porch #and I’ve been working on sanding my kitchen table I got used to get the paint off and stain instead and similar with my coffee table and #that’s on sale from like 50 to 20 dollars plus the sanding pads are on sale a few bucks off as well #and I think there’s one or two smaller things plus I need to get groceries tomorrow and I got a coupon in the mail for free fries with a #purchase at a burger place and I was thinking of taking myself out to lunch tomorrow before I saw about the sale and started making #decisions about potentially spending a lot of money and I have anxiety spending money and I’ve been working on it but it’s still something #that I will probably struggle with somewhat for the rest of my life it’s about managing in healthy #ways instead blah blah blah but sometimes when I talk to my aunt about this she gets frustrated with me because she thinks if I need those #things and have the money I should just buy it and not cause a scene about it and I don’t want to be dramatic but it’s like a #piercing adrenaline fear of not having the money to survive or get what I need in the future and anyways this isn’t what I meant to talk #about what I meant to talk about was that I’m thinking of spending a lot of money tomorrow and technically I have the money and the stuff is #on sale at least the hardware stuff not the groceries so despite it feeling like I’m spending a lot of money at once it will be more cost #efficient to buy them tomorrow than if I waited a few months and there wasn’t a sale going on #so I should purchase them and get groceries and maybe MAYBE even take myself out to lunch as a celebration of how much effort I’ve been #putting into fixing up my home that I love so much and just getting through this period of so much change as best I can #and not have a panic attack about it because it’s going to be okay and I have the money and I have a job with money coming in and I need #those items anyway and will need to buy them at some point and they will likely be more expensive in the future so it is okay for me to #spend the money on it now and it’s not the end of the world everything is going to be okay *right*? #I don’t know I’m just talking to myself mostly #this was a way to get my thoughts out about it without being advised to just get over it #also my tummy hurts and I’m being so brave about it #sort of lol
