“I always thought I was the one who should make an effort to live in harmony with others. Because in this world, there are a lot more people who can hear that those who can't. But out of all those people, someone came to me and said hi first. She said she was glad to see me again. And after saying what she pepared to say, she smiled. She was smiling at me."

just a couple of things i want to highlight about tell me that you love me ep2
1. them explicitly showing that deaf folks are more than capable of being as successful in life just as your average hearing person was so wholesome i loved it! -- it was also so nice to see him teaching deaf students,, it is so important for deaf kids/teens to be around deaf adults to have role models that belong to their community
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—🎨
2. him listing down all the ways deaf/hoh people can enjoy music was so refreshing i was giggling and kicking my feet the entire scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
—🎼
this kdrama keeps on impressing me for the better (when it comes to the representation) and i hope it continues to do so in the future 🍀

Who have done binge watching this drama in the last three days? Me
Tell Me That You Love Me is a very wonderful drama. Beautiful script with relatable plot. It isn't the kind of romance drama which have serial killer in the climax, or something like that. Or about a commoner getting involved with super rich family. There is no cartoonish villain who loves to ruin everyone's live without reason. The problems that were presented in the drama is very realistic to the point it hurts to watch. It is about disabilities, the problem of communicating and connecting with fellow human beings and love.
I can't explain enough of how I love Jin Woo. Just from a glance, it is clear that he is a man who has been going through a lot. There is persistent sadness inside his eyes, and yet he hasn't shed a single tear yet in the drama. Just from his body language and his limited expression, you can see how guarded he is, how he distanced himself from the people around him. How he is always walking on eggshell most of the time. He is clearly scarred, wounded but he is still living. He looks like he is numb with live, living just because he has no reason to die. Very relatable.
Then Mo Eun came, like a falling angel. She isn't a happy person herself, and yet she has so much love to give. She is so heartwarming and soft, that she is able to melt the wall that Jin Woo has built around himself. She is tender, patient and understanding, and yet fragile.
They fit each other a lot and I love how soft and warm their love growing. They learn how to communicate, how to involve each other into their lives. They are comfortable around other, not that kind of love where people drive you crazy.
So yeah, it is a very beautiful kdrama.
So my point is... I will be extremely super upset... if it ends up with bad end.
Or maybe that cheap ending where they break up, then they become successful people then they meet again.
Please no. Please give the ending that they deserve. Please. Script writer-nim.

ep. 4 and my usual ranting
not the little girl 😭😭 "you broke our promise"
Jin-woo was thinking of Mo-eun too while they were apart. They should date or something.
Dude just goes painting on every wall...
Wait, omg that's a painting of Yuna. so wholesome 🥹
I’m guessing every painting he does is a tribute to someone he lost?
I am once again asking where ppl in kdramas get all these coats? Always out there looking dapper…
I love her best friend, she's so funny and charming and supportive. Her actress is killing it as usual... But when she getting a starring role?
I can understand why she opens up to him. Bro has the most understanding, gentle face ever. He should have been a therapist ong. Very nonjudgmental vibes too.
Noooo, Jin-woo was about to ask Mo-eun out for dinner, Johan came at the worst possible time. He was kinda annoying this episode ngl, I’m with Mo-eun on that one.
Damn, he really made her ride the embarrassment on wheels too 💀💀 look at everyone on the street staring…
How did hard this man make her work out?? She is about to COLLAPSE
Lmao, the receptionist also crushing hard on "Jaden"... Tryna make extra sure he doesn't misunderstand…
Is it a kdrama if there's no romantic moments involving umbrellas? Look, it was tropey but these two made it work. Very cute.
I THOUGHT SHE REALLY WAS ABOUT TO CONFESS AND SHE WAS SUPER BOLD… BUT IT WAS JUST A TYPO…
At least he was the grace to laugh at her after he walked away
I wish she had stuck with him calling him to her performance…
No queen, don’t freeze up, I know you’re talented…
HOW DID HE GET HERE, THE ABSOLUTE KING 👑👑👑🥺🥺 Wish I had a cheerleader like him in my life 😭

My goblin monkey brain gets bored and/or distracted too easily watching dramas, like I've been in situations where I say I soooo love a drama after watching two or five episodes of it and then gets too busy to continue and/or my monkey brain can't be bothered to pick up anymore
So it's considered a big success for me when i can cling and am still interested in a drama for 10 episodes continuously and not only looking for its spoilers on tumblr lol
List of dramas I've either dropped out of drained brain juice and/or not enough time and/or just can't be bothered, in no particular order (some not listed here are the ones i forgot that i watched and then dropped lol)
1. Joseon Attorney (im sorry Woo Do Hwan i loved you in The King and Mad Dog 🥺)
2. Tell Me That You Love Me (plsss i loved the first two episodes sm and then i couldn't be bothered to continue it idek don't ask)
3. Call It Love (i uhh...i love the lethargic vibe but my brain couldn't brain the gloom)
4. Dr. Romantic 3 (okay i didn't drop this completely. It took me a while to watch it again. I did it for Kim Min Jae yh)
5. Vincenzo (idk why)
6. A Shop for Killers (look i watched this until ep6 and then my brain juice decided to say goodbye to me)
7. Moving (look i loved this one. But i very nearly dropped it for good after that one hiatus and then my sister got me to finish it with her) (just a little disappointed Kang Hoon was still alone in the end)
8. Tomorrow (im sorry Rowoon my brain juice couldn't be bothered idk i think it's got to do with the momentum. I kept looking up Joong Gil and Goo Ryeon spoilers tho lol)
9. Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist (i didn't finish season 2. Or maybe i didn't even pay attention to season 2 i can't remember what happens in that season lmao. I just wanted the two mains to be happy)
10. Today's Webtoon (sorry Sejeong-ah i love you in BP and Busted)
11. Lovers of the Red Sky (the momentum. Yh I'm pretty sure it's because of that. I love both of the leads in other dramas)
12. Daily Dose of Sunshine. (Too sad. Hits too close to home)
This list goes back to 2021. Doesn't mean i watched all the rest of the dramas that i didn't list lol

2023 Kdramas I am excited for
We have only a bit over two months in the year left, but it looks like kdramas saved the best for last. Here is the list of kdramas I am excited for...
Boyhood/Once Upon a Boyhood (November 24) - Siwan hasn't done a bad drama and I am in the mood for a nostalgic 80s piece. I am a little amused that a 35 year old is gonna be playing a high schooler, but in a fond way.
Tumblr media
Castaway Diva (October 28) - I am very fond of Park Eun Bin and if anyone can sell the whimsy of a tale about a woman who was a castaway and then becomes a pop star, she will. Not fond of the new trend for 12 eps but it is what it is.
Tumblr media
Goryeo-Khitan War (November 11) - my most anticipated for the rest of the year. Every casting and crew choice, every promo makes it look like an old school politics and war heavy sageuk that does not cater in the least to youth or even fusion sageuk subgenres and I am here for it so so so MUCH!
Tumblr media
Gyeongseong Creature (December) - not a big fan of netflix originals but I am there for the cast and the setting.
Tumblr media
The Matchmakers (October 30) - looks like a wacky period romp with Rowoon and Cho Yi Hyun. I don't have high hopes for it because I like my period stuff angsty, but whatever else, it's gonna be pretty pretty pretty!
Tumblr media
Moon In the Day (November 1) - except for GK War, my most anticipated for the rest of the year. Reincarnation/time travel story that flashes back between modern day and Silla - GOD YES!
Tumblr media
My Demon (November 24) - sounds like shoujo crack about a demon who loses his powers and enters into a contract marriage (of course) with a human. Done many many times before but I am always a sucker for the trope.
Tumblr media
Perfect Marriage Revenge (October 28) - first of all, I have a huge weak spot for Sung Hoon. He's a limited actor but between New Tales of the Gisaeng and his role in Faith, he won my heart forever. But also, this plot is so old school melo the way they don't make it nowadays. Our FL is betrayed by her sister and her husband and dies. But she wakes up before her marriage and decides to do things differently and get revenge. She gets married in a contract marriage to our ML, a chaebol (of course) played by sexy Sung Hoon and...doesn't it all sound like those delicious transmigration novels made flesh?
Tumblr media
The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (November 24) - I love time travel/time slip stories and the fact that this is a woman who ends up in the modern day where she comes across the dead ringer of her deceased husband makes it high class Durian, plus Lee Se Young is a wonderful actress who rarely picks wrong.
Tumblr media
Tell Me That You Love Me (November) - a remake of my favorite jdrama of all time, Aishteiru to Ittekure, this story about the relationship between a deaf painter and an aspiring younger actress is going to give me the adult love story I crave. The fact that the legend that is Jung Woo Sung is back in dramas, and is playing the ML, is just the perfect thing. (His last proper drama was Padam Padam in 2011!!! He is mainly a movie star.)
Tumblr media
Vigilante (November 8) - I am just here to see Nam Joo Hyuk kick people in the face.
Tumblr media
Welcome to Samdalri (December 2) - Shin Hye Sun and Ji Chang Wook in a romcom mmmmm. I don't have any pics so have:

the way tell me that you love me speaks about deaf people's experiences needs much more praise and i hate that people arent giving this drama the attention it deserves!!
in this scene, they describe in a very simple way how lighting plays a key point for deaf/hoh people,, lip reading is hard enough as it is so when the lighting is bad it gets 10 times more difficult to keep up
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
however it was this other scene the one that hit close for me
i dont think hearing people really grasp the implications of jinwoo's words here,, i genuinely feel like this many times at some point i just go with it and move on because i feel like im being annoying (which i shouldnt but i cant help it) and if thats me as a hard of hearing person imagine how a deaf folk might feel
[if you ever make a deaf/hoh person feel bad or uncomfortable when they ask you to repeat yourself then you are a big asshole]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
jinwoo is such a fresh character and so far an amazing example of proper and good deaf representation in korean media ♡

Tell Me That You Love Me Episode 15-16
The review of the last two episodes of Tell Me That You Love Me
So, finally, I gathered enough bravery to watch the last two episodes, fearing that the show would end up with bad end.
Thankfully, it isn't. Unfortunately, it ended like how I expected it to be. The damn time skip.
But, who am I to complain? I'm satisfied enough that the show doesn't end with a bad ending. That's enough.
So, the last two episodes totally… destroyed me.
I cried like I was the one who got brokenhearted.
In that scene where Jin Woo cries and calls Mo Eun's name in his hoarse voice, it is such a shame that Mo Eun didn't hear it.
I think the core of the problem between Mo Eun and Jin Woo is that… Jin Woo's lack of conveying his feelings to Mo Eun. Like the title of the show, Tell Me That You Love Me. Of course, it started because of Jin Woo's lack of communication about what happened with his past lover, but after that, Mo Eun felt lonely because she felt like she was the only one who loved him, and he didn't return her feelings.
Of course, Jin Woo has his own way of loving Mo Eun and he is the type who shows his affection through actions. But, even that was so subtle to see and Mo Eun needs to squint her eyes to understand the meaning of all of Jin Woo's subtle expressions of love. She could think that Jin Woo doing all of that because he was being nice, not necessarily because he loved her. The more she was in doubt, the more she failed to see Jin Woo's language of love.
And Jin Woo, mostly, acted so passively. There was a lot of waiting on his end because he was always walking on eggshells. Their love was mature, but maybe, it was also too quiet. Compared to the other love stories in this drama, their love is too quiet and Mo Eun became lonely because of that.
Of course, it isn't good for her to start wishing to have something that Jin Woo can't do, and that is exactly why she berated herself in the end. It isn't easy to love Jin Woo, who is scarred and carries a lot of baggage on his end. It isn't weird for Mo Eun to feel saddened and lonely because of she started to lost her believe that Jin Woo loved her back.
This drama could end better if they could communicate better, for Mo Eun to convey why she felt lonely (though I understand that she also didn't have the heart to ask Jin Woo to convey his love to her in a more apparent way because Jin Woo's language of love is simply different, that is just how he is) and for Jin Woo to understand that he did deserve people to love him (so that he doesn't need to always act carefully and so guarded, fearing that one stupid mistake can drive people away from him).
Of course, the damn time skip came, and while the show is shown how all of the characters' life turned out, it fails to show why Jin Woo and Mo Eun need time to love each other back again.
If I can speculate, maybe the reason why Jin Woo acted so brightly after returning from abroad is that he finally allowed himself to love Mo Eun. He always felt like he undeserving of love, so to accept that it is okay for him to love someone is a huge deal. For him who always prepare himself for people to leave him all the time, it is indeed a huge deal. Mo Eun herself, finally understands that everyone has their own way of conveying their love and that people can love in different ways and shapes.
It would be way better if the drama ended with a scene of Jin Woo really says how much he loves Mo Eun, not just a monologue on his part.
But well, again, I'm happy with the happy ending. (And if I'm unsatisfied with the end, I can just write a fanfic for it, if I have enough motivation).

Shin Hyun-bin is genuinely such a good actress. Her trying to be upbeat while being on the verge of tears voice on the phone with her mom, her face crumpling as she holds onto Jin-woo... Very moving and amazing acting.
