Preference with a Gargoyle in medieval times when they become friends with a thief (reader) who may or may have not stolen from the Gargoyles church.
Oooo, a Gargoyle! I haven’t written for one of these in a while.
Enjoy!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Of course the two of you meet in the dead of night, you holding some shiny object from the church treasury as you’re climbing out of the top windows to the roof; the Gargoyle is there. Looming over you with its arms crossed and wings fanned open to stop any escape.
- Its a very awkward exchange. Mostly you trying to convince the Guardian not to scewer you ontop of one of the church’s spires. And the Gargoyle looking mostly amused as you try to hide the object under your cloak.
- And to be fair, you’ve impressed it. This church is pretty secure and full of traps; so the Gargoyle gives you some slack and you somehow leave the church with a handful of gold coins after returning the object back to the church. Under the Gargoyles keen watch.
- Night after night, you run across the rooves of the city. Stealing, looting and sometimes running for your life from the more dangerous people in the city. And you always end up on the church roof with the Gargoyle by sunrise.
- You discovered no one follows you to the church, so it becomes a safe haven for you at night. And you also enjoy the company of the stone creature.
- You become friends. An unlikely pair; a Guardian of Sacred Ground and a human who takes what isn’t theirs. But friends none the less.
- You bring the Gargoyle things they like. Usually small trinkets to decorate the stone body of theirs. Like necklaces and bracelets. Occasionally, the Gargoyle discreetly hints at something he saw someone where to church that day. Giving you a desciption and even a location of their home.
- “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re falling from Grace, Garg.” You’d tease. “I protect the Sacred Ground. Not the shinies people wear to the grounds.” It would respond. Shrugging off your playful pokes.
- The one time you’re caught, you’re brought to the courtyard of the Church. Where your sentence is given trial through the Priests’ order.
- You didn’t think your friend would come. It’s secretive, prefers not to be seen by other humans. But like a hurricane, it swooped down from the roof and snatched you from the clutches of the guards. The stone hide protecting you and the beast from the arrows and spears the people threw at the two of you.
- But as soon as the Gargoyle made itself known, the Priests called off the attackers. Demanding that no harm came to the Gargoyle and, indirectly, you. For some reason, the Priests believed you are now a chosen vassel of the their God because the Guardian of their homage protected you.
- All charges are dropped. You’re left to run around the city again, but now the Church is your home and the Priests continually try to convert you to their God and make you worship them.
- The Gargoyle however is thrilled you get to stay with them. You even have a little knook in the Church tower to rest whenever you come by to visit.
