The past few weeks had been hectic in your life. You and your boyfriend Quinn had flown into New Jersey to watch his younger brother Jack in the playoffs. Then in the middle of all that happening and spending time with his family, Quinn had surgery. Now that the devils season had ended and Quinn was feeling better everything had finally quieted down for a bit. Everyone had decided to stick around for another week since Jacks birthday was coming up and mothers day was on the same day. During the craziness of the weeks you had been having you hadn’t even noticed that you had missed your period this month and it only hit you once things slowed down that you’d be starting your period soon and should probably go to the store to pick up things you’d need. Except when you looked at the date you realized that you were late. You didn’t want to get Quinn excited or to add any stress to his life but you also knew he would pick up on you being anxious about something. “So you really think you’re pregnant?” He asked, and you could tell he was caught completely off guard. “I’m not sure, it could just be the stress.” Which is true, it wouldn’t be the first time stress threw your period off. But the two of you had decided that in a week or so you’d take a test. Of course the waiting game and not knowing didn’t help with any stress but you guys needed to focus on Jacks birthday and family time right now and there wasn’t much privacy in Jacks apartment to start off with. For mothers day everyone went out to lunch to celebrate Ellen and the boys were all already planning on going out to New York for the night to celebrate Jacks birthday but Quinn quickly excused himself from that “I think we’re actually just going to do a movie night just the two of us. We haven’t really had time to just have a date night.” He told everyone and even though Jack and Luke insisted that you both couldn’t bail, it was decided. When it was just the two of you alone Quinn caved and asked if you could take a pregnancy test. “Yes please, if it comes back negative it might be stress but we can double check again in a few weeks to make sure we didn’t check too early.” So with all of that being said now with the privacy in the apartment you were finally able to take the test and after the agonizing five minute wait you finally got your answer as you looked down at the test that very clearly said pregnant on it. “Oh my god.” Quinn said and as you turned to look at him he had the biggest smile on his face. “We’re going to be parents.” You told him with tears in your eyes. “Happy mothers day, y/n”

“Headquarters sent out an email. It’s your birthday.”

Hero nodded. Yes, it was their birthday. Leader said it as though Hero didn’t know their own birth date. At least headquarters knew better than to send them the email on top of everyone else. ‘Hey, Hero! In case you forgot, it’s your very own birthday today!’ Hero would have chuckled if not for the confused look on Leader’s face as they began speaking.

“I usually don’t- um… I mean… We’re not supposed to-”

It was now that Hero realized there was a small box in Leader’s hands. And not just any box; it was a gift box- blue cardboard with a darker blue ribbon atop.

“It’s nothing big, but… you’re a good addition to the team. We’re closer, stronger, more vulnerable…” Leader trailed off.

Vulnerable was an interesting choice of words, but Hero shrugged it off with a hint of a smirk. They knew what Leader meant.

“I imagine informing you that your cheeks are going red would embarrass you further so I’ll say this instead: thank you for the gift.” Hero took the box from Leader’s clammy hands. “I’ll be sure to thank the team,” they said with a quick wink.

Before walking away, Hero added, “Allow yourself more confidence next time. You’re pretty cute when you fluster, but confidence is more my forte. Got it?”

Hero could have sworn they heard Leader swallow.

“I’ll- uh… yeah. Confident. More confident. No, I’ve always been confident.” Leader shook their head. “Happy birthday, Hero.” And they ducked their head as they strode down the hall, separating themself from the situation and their own embarrassment.

Leader wasn’t so messy with anyone else on the team. Hero managed a smile. They could get used to a flustered Leader if it came down to it.

Sweetest Gift pt 2

a/n: got a request that just went really well this original little thing i wrote where quinn and reader tell his family about them having a baby so heres a pt 2

It had been a few weeks since you and Quinn had found out you were pregnant and of course both of you were dying to tell family but both of you also wanted to bask in the privacy of this moment for a little while longer. When you had flown back home from watching his brothers play in the playoffs you both had immediately booked a doctors appointment to confirm it and well it was confirmed. Both of you were going to be parents.

Now that the season was officially over for everyone there were plans for everyone to get together and you had decided now would be a good time to tell family about the pregnancy. Neither of you wanted to go over the top with the announcement but you also didn’t want to make it a simple phone call. Instead you both planned a dinner out and you slid the ultrasound photos into your purse so you could show everyone after dinner.

Throughout dinner you definitely felt nervous and not because you felt like they would take this news badly because you knew they wouldn’t but because everything would change from this moment further. More than it already had. When you had all finished the main meal everyone decided to order dessert and this was definitely your time to get everyones attention around the table. “Hey everyone, me and Quinn actually want to show you guys something.” Definitely did not have a speech ready for this and it was showing. You felt Quinns hand go to your thigh, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

You reached into your bag and pulled out the ultrasound, handing it off to to Ellen first. Her hand flew to her mouth “Is this what I think it is?” She asked and you could see the tears streaming down her face. “Definitely a baby mom.” Quinn chuckled as the photo made it’s way around the table. “We found out on mothers day but we wanted to make sure before we told everyone.” The ultrasound was now with Luke and Jack. “I’m definitely going to be the favorite uncle.” Both the boys said in unison before looking at each other, causing everyone at the table to laugh.

“Also there is one more thing.” The voice that said that belonged to Quinn and this definitely made you furrow your brows because you had no clue what he meant by this. As far as you were concerned the only news you had was the baby. But it all started piecing together when Quinn got out of his seat and sank down in front of you on one knee. He pulled a small black box from his pocket, opening it to the most gorgeous ring you had seen. 

“I’ve been meaning to do this for a few months now even before we found out but I wanted the timing to be just right.” Your hand went up to your mouth, complete shock and you looked up at him and then at the table, one look at Jack and Lukes face and you knew they had known about this part. Ellen even though she was in tears still you could also tell she had played a hand in this along with Jim. “I love you so much and I know our lives are about to get crazier but there’s no one else I’d rather do it with.” All you could do was nod your head at him as tears came down your face. “Yes. Absolutely yes.”
