Something's been bothering me since S03E07 and this shot

and the way that Trent's little finger is sticking up.

So, when I did my rewatch last week I looked at every time Trent was holding his glasses (and his mug in S3):

Series 1

Series 2

Series 3

Not once does he hold anything with his finger sticking up EXCEPT in the episode where Ted talks about soulmates being connected by a string attached to their little fingers...

AND HE IS POINTING AT TED. We specifically get a shot from behind Trent showing this.

I'm feeling completely insane about it (thank you for asking).

When Jamie asks" "what's with the red string?" IT CUTS STRAIGHT TO TRENT.

Oh, and what is Trent wearing around his wrist? A THIN RED BRACELET THAT LOOKS LIKE STRING.

Why?

You cannot convince me that Ted wouldn't make a terrible 'not so Independent' joke if he ever got together with Trent.

Like, imagine him using all of his will power to save it for wedding vows which he writes himself and tell me it isn't the cutest thing you've ever heard.
