A re-post from a friend: No Regrets

It's 8:30 AM and I'm in the process of my morning ritual. Good Morning! As I was scouring my twitter I stumbled upon a tweet by a friend of mine that got me interested to check her blog so early in the morning. While going through each post I happened to relate no EMPHATIZE with this one she entitled No Regrets - something she found on the web. I want to send a message so here it is. It struck me to the core and to those who can relate:

I want to thank you for breaking my heart. I’ve realized things about myself that I would have never seen otherwise. I lost myself in you. I lost what I wanted from life and who I wanted to be because I cared so much for you. You and the plans we had became more important to me than anything else. I became so consumed in you that I forgot how strong I am. I lost some of my strength, actually. But now I’ve found it again.

The pain that I’ve been through has made me a different person. A better person. A wiser and far more understanding person. I began to base the quality of my life off of the expectations I had for us. When that fell through, I felt empty; worthless. I lost all the worth I thought I had in my life because it was entirely invested in you.

I never want to be that person again. And I never will be. That is all thanks to you for breaking me down so far that I had no choice but to rebuild myself based on me. What I want, how I want to live. How I will live, how I am living. Thanks to you, I crave adventure. I will never settle. And I will always put myself first. What you did felt so wrong and the way you handled it was so wrong but it was exactly what I needed.

Thank you for being heartless. For being ruthless. For being a person I never ever thought you could be. Thank you for not showing me any mercy. Thank you for not calling when you said you would. Thank you for showing me your true colors. Without them, I would still blindly trust people. I would still believe that if you are good to someone, they’ll be good to you. I would still believe that bad things happen to good people but they’ll never happen to me.

You broke me down to the most bare, basic and raw human state. There was nothing left for me to do but face myself and how I look at the world. Its not a beautiful place and you’ve made me me realize how terrible it can be. Because of you, I see beauty in life because I choose to. Before, I was naive. I saw beauty only because I couldn’t see the pain. Now I’m learning to see beauty despite seeing the pain. I choose to be the way I am and for that, I am so grateful.

You’ve been a part of my life that I’ll never forget. The perfect combination of pleasure and pain. You’ve changed who I am on a very basic level and I’m better for it.

I hope you find what you’re needing, too.
