how can you read catching fire and not understand that katniss loves peeta so much it’s baked into her identity

when he dies and finnick has to revive him? that’s the most raw emotion katniss expresses in the books except for when prim’s life is at stake. he is the boy with the bread, after all. katniss’ number one mission in her life is to protect prim. but when katniss can’t? when prim isn’t at risk? if anything happens to peeta, it’s like it happens to her. it’s the sort of love that creeps up on a person, where you’re so used to feeling it and acting on it that labeling it, naming that thing that makes you drop everything for someone feels foreign and wrong until something snaps into place and you realize it fits.

I think people fall behind in understanding Katniss's character because the movies fell short in showing her internal monolog. I love Katniss forever.

I've been brainrotting so hard over The Hunger Games and I've compiled a list of moments that truly confirm how much she loves Peeta.

in Catching Fire, before the 75th games and after Gale's whipping, Katniss goes on for an entire paragraph describing Peeta's eyelashes and gushing about him.

HER ENTIRE INTERNAL MONOLOGE. She's constantly thinking about Peeta. Worrying for him, thinking of how safe she feels with him, COMPARING HER PARENTS LOVE TO THEIRS.

Literally doing EVERYTHING in her power to save him from The Capitol. Refusing to aid the rebellion unless they saved him.

CONSTANTLY bringing him up when Gale is trying to win her back.

PUTTING IN THE FUCKING WORK TO MAKE PEETA REMEMBER SHIT AFTER THEY TOOK HIM BACK. She NEVER gave up on him. (even if Prim Reaper wanted her to.)

"To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope"

Katniss and Peeta are the EPITOME of "He fell first, She fell harder."

Also, part of the reason she doesn't show her affection and love like other people is the fact she has lived her ENTIRE life in fight or flight.

#personal #though tbh i think a lot of ppl now just use it for any character that dies in a story #instead of the character being doomed. everyone's seen that prim everdeen thg post on here #and im into dunmeshi rn. farlin dies in the first chapter. the entire series is the gang trying really hard to revive her and kind of #making their situation worse and worse the more they apparently progress. she even dies again after being revived #knives doesnt quite fit but is tragic (all his actions make every thing worse) #his fate seems to be up in the air but i feel he's digging his grave more than wolfwood (who is doing the opposite)
