@slaughtyr said, "i did the best i could, but my best wasn't good enough."
Tumblr media
❝  bullshit.  ❞     she says it abruptly,   but her tone doesn't have the same frustration as it normally does,    instead replaced with a certain gentleness that's always been reserved for tara.    a small hint of a smile tugs at the corner of her lips,    eyes peering up at her underneath her cap.     ❝  you did the best you could.    that don't mean it wasn't good enough.   just means we're all in over our damn heads with this.   ❞     she reaches her hand out,    placing it to tara's shoulder softly,    a brow raising as she smirks back at her.     ❝  hey,   you still got me.   no way i'm about to let you forget that.  ❞

Women's volleyball: “We seek to repair an imbalance h …
“The time has come to say: professionalization of women's volleyball.” With capital letters, like shouting it, Natalia Espinosa opened a thread on Twitter on January 15 and also the door for women who play volleyball in Argentina to be heard in their demand for better conditions. A week later, I published a statement signed by almost 200 players with 8 points, including: improving conditions for professional players and supporting the initial stages of the sport, increasing wages, establishing medical coverage for them and the body technical and publicize national tournaments in the media.
“These days we are emphasizing gender parity in decision-making places. There are no women in the leadership of volleyball,” explains Natalia representing JuAVA (Associated Players of Argentine Volleyball). “It also points to a legal backing that assures the player that what she arranges by word of mouth is going to be in her hand. It is something for both parties. Many confuse professionalism with a prize for the player and in reality it is a responsibility Today the players are required and respond as professionals, but they are not recognized as such. ”
Once organized, they broke down the real situation of each of the clubs. They put together a survey with the league's players and, of the 154 they estimate to be, they already have a response of 130. “The survey shows that 91.9% of the players do not reach the minimum wage, vital and mobile (N de la R .: Currently it is $ 16,875) “, Natalia sentence.
–During all your years as a player, did you see a difference between women's and men's volleyball?
Yes, it always existed. What happens now is that with the rise of feminism we realized that we had everything naturalized. It used to happen to us that if you had the worst training schedule you would say “ok, it's the boys”. In addition the inequality in the budgets was noticed, in the importance and in the diffusion of the tournaments. In common thought is that women's volleyball does not sell, but in reality they do not have the mainstream media.
–Why are the budgets different?
–For the salaries the players receive, first. The differences are abysmal. And because the men's league is, in quotes, more federalized than the women's. The women's league today has eleven teams of which eight are from the Metropolitan Area and three from the interior: one from Entre Ríos and two from Santa Fe. The men's league has to travel to Jujuy for a weekend, one to Catamarca, another to Neuquén; You have to move the teams, plus accommodation, food, a lot of things.
At 35, Natalia is retired. “The last few years she was like the Chiqui Legrand of volleyball, she said‘ capable that this is the last league ’and there was always one more,” she laughs. Those last matches coincided with the semi-professionalization of women's football, so an idea began to ring in his head and it became deafening over the months, until it became this collective cry. “It happened to us that when we finished a game, they made notes to us about the professionalization of women's football and asked us about the situation of volleyball. My answer was: 'Hopefully it will happen at some point'. And I think it started bother that 'it is going to happen' “, he reflects. The encounters with her colleagues at JuAVA, where she is the only woman, only confirmed gender differences. “One said: Y And how much do women charge? Between 30 and 40?’. And my answer was: ‘Not even close. ’I realized that I was really wrong because of their reaction.”
Lawyer Victoria Flores Beltrán, specialized in Gender and Labor Law, was key to the next step. With it they were able to get advice and plan a strategy. Thus, on March 8 Natalia, together with the former player Rocío Larrechea and the players Agustina Boyezuk and Florencia Corradini, presented the Double Change Collective in the Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Buenos Aires, which groups volleyball players from all over the country for professionalization. “There are actions that were done and are done badly so that we do not grow,” said Natalia Espinosa in her dissertation. With this we seek to repair a historical imbalance, to seek equality. “

❛ don’t act like you know me. ❜ ↳ @surviveds
❝ i don't have to know you to know that you're losing your shit in here,  ❞  she points out,  deadpanned,  keeping her eyes on him.  he's right; she doesn't know him.  she barely knows anyone here --- something that's intentional, never wishing to get too close to just anyone, especially under circumstances like this.  the way she sees it, he's still just a kid.  and when she was his age,  she wasn't all that different than the way he's acting now -- but now, it can be life or death, and maybe he needs to hear it how it is.
Tumblr media
❝  and that's fine.  shit keeps getting worse out there, but in here?  you gotta find something to hang on to. ❞   it's advice she likely owes to herself, too, more often than not.  ❝  i'm teaching a bunch of kids your age self defense later today. wouldn't hurt you to join. ❞

@donesurvivin:  “aren’t you tired?”
Tumblr media
it’s late as she as she takes a stroll with her daughter down the quiet streets of their new  (  maybe, temporary  )  community,  and he’s right,  she is tired,  but it’s the first time she’s seen her all day,  and these are the moments she used to look forward to back home.  ❝  i don’t even know what that word means anymore,  ❞   she admits,  offering him a small smile as she glances down at the baby,  resting peacefully in her stroller.  ❝  just got off shift a while ago  ---  wanted to spend some time with her before i called it a night.  what about you?  out lookin’ for some kind of  party?  think i heard one a few blocks down.  ❞  she’s teasing,  her tone almost mocking,  because while she’s adapting here easily  ---  it’s just as strange and uncomfortable for her, too.

@donesurvivin →  “to be honest, you scare me.”
she takes it as a compliment  ---  it’s intentional,  keeping everyone at a distance,  intimidating them enough to at least know not to get on her bad side.  it’s not where they’re forced to remain  ---  she can be soft,  too.  she likes to be,  when it’s granted,  when she’s with the right people.  she just hasn’t made her mind up about joel yet.  he’s tough to figure out,  tough to get to know ---  and that much,  at least,  intrigues her  (   are they the same?  or worlds apart?  )   if there’s one person she knows she can trust,  it’s aaron  ---  and if he vouches for joel,  then it’s a little easier for her to have some faith in him.
Tumblr media
❝  that your way of suckin’ up?  ❞   she checks her bag one last time,  ensuring everything’s in place before turning back to him,  her eyes studying him for a moment.  ❝  just keep up with me out there,  and we got no problem.  ❞  it comes with a smirk,  a way to tell him that she knows he can keep up   ---  she just wants to see for herself how well he can handle himself.

@lastsurvivin →  “i don’t leave anybody behind. not ever.”
With what she’s trying to do,  she wishes he would.  Yet she can respect him for the sentiment  ---  she knows he means well,  even if it’s grating to her now.  Leaving the walls to come out here on her own was about something she needed to do for herself:  being stuck inside for too long makes her feel stagnant,  makes her start to feel weak,  and she can’t afford to lose herself to the comfort having a home gives her,  not when she learned brutality from being on the road.  So much has changed,  so much she doesn’t know how to get back  --  but so much she doesn’t want to lose,  either.
Coming out here on her own is risk  --  but it also feels like the very thing that keeps her alive, too.
Tumblr media
❝  Nothin’ I say’s gonna turn you away,  is it?  ❞  Already accepting his presence  (  it’s better than most of her alternatives,  she knows.  )   ❝   I’m fine.  Just needed to get out  .  .  .   Being cooped up for too long,  does me no good.   Hope you didn’t come out lookin’ for me.  ❞

@undred   →   “here, take a sip.”
this trip was supposed to be about the two of them,  focused on one another,  caring about nothing else.  it’s why ro usually comes to oceanside --- to wash away all other worries and spend time with the woman who’s often on her mind when she’s back at home.  getting seasick had never been part of the plan  ---  nor had it ever happened before.   she’s never been good at allowing someone else to cater to her needs, so valerie offering her a glass of water has ro sighing  ( even if it’s exactly what she needs. )   ❝  you don’t have to take care of me,  ❞   she mutters weakly.  ❝  i---  i already screwed shit up.  ❞   it was out of her control,  but that seems to be the worst part.  ❝  really,  val,  i’m fine.  i’m  .  .  .   gonna be fine,  ❞   she quickly corrects herself.  ❝  if you got other shit to do,  don’t worry about me.  ❞   it’s not what she wants.  she still wants her time with her,  but she’d rather valerie do anything else if it’s more important than taking care of her.

@ledhope  →   'i was waiting for you.'
she doesn’t know what to make of maggie yet,  doesn’t know what she’s been through or who she’s become in the time she’s been away.  all she knows is that this is the person who was once one of her closest friends,  and not only is she an asset to their community,  but she’s family back to fill part of the void of all they’ve lost since she left.  having her back is like gaining some piece of hope,  and right now,  she has to hold onto any bit of that tightly.
Tumblr media
❝  that’s right.  ❞   she says it with a small yet confident grin,  one that’s been missing from her features lately.  ❝  you and me,  huh?  we always did make a good team.  ❞   it’s her way of saying i missed you.

@griefsick  →  “he liked you. he was different with you.“
the words are like a knife to her gut.  and she knows that mikhail means well;  she knows that they’re only trying to discuss the person who meant the most to them  (  and even to her  )  because spencer still matters to them both,  but it hurts for her to hear.  when he was alive,  it was easier to pretend that his feelings weren’t real.  it was easy to pretend that her own feelings weren’t real.  it was easiest to pretend that what happened between them was out of necessity rather than desire  ---   a need to get over the way abraham tossed her aside, not a desire to be with spencer in a way that she had never felt for someone else.  but the more time she spent with him,  the more it became about the latter rather than about abraham at all.  she liked him,  and worst of all  ---  she could have loved him.  what is she supposed to do with that now that he’s gone,  now that she couldn’t give him what he wanted from her?
 ❝  i treated him like crap,  ❞   she admits.  for some reason,  it feels easy to admit that to mikhail,  because it seems they knew spencer better than most,  and there’s a certain level of vulnerability here in being able to admit that she was in the wrong.   ❝  i know he cared,  i just----   ❞   she takes a breath.   ❝  i wasn’t ready for it.  ❞   wasn’t ready for him,  wasn’t ready to be the person that he deserved.
because more than anything,  spencer deserved someone who could love him back fully.  he deserved to be open with his partner,  deserved to be able to look at them freely the way that he looked at rosita  (  the very way that often felt so claustrophobic for her,  like he was putting her on a pedestal that she didn’t deserve  ---  because with him,  she didn’t.  )   she didn’t give him her all,  but he deserved it.  she didn’t push him away because he wasn’t right for her;  she pushed him away because he was.  and she’s never had anything like that before;  how could she accept that it was finally time,  after all she had been through?
Tumblr media
 ❝  i’ll never know what could have happened between us,  because i never let him tell me what he wanted,  ❞  she mumbles,  mostly to herself rather than mikhail,  who she doesn’t mean to be so open with now,  but after so long of bottling up these feelings,  it seems they’re ready to pour.   it wouldn’t come so easily with anyone else,  but they were close to spencer;  they deserve her honesty,  rather than the same mask she wears for everyone else.  she knew what spencer wanted,  and she wanted it too,  but she never allowed it for either of them,  because she’s never been in that place before.  she looks up at mikhail,  her hat pulled down enough that she can feel like she’s hiding,  enough to make this feel less exposing.  ❝  you were good for him,  you know.  sometimes it felt like people just left him in the dark.  yeah,  me too,   ❞   she adds with a scoff,  shaking her head.   ❝  but not you.  he had you,  and he needed that. ❞
