While I'm posting about my pathologic transcription, I'll make shorter posts about my takeaways. About the literal health of the environment around town, we get a couple people on day one to give context. The most obvious is Aspity, but to get an idea as to why things are as she says, you have to talk to a drunkard, called a Carouser, and a Tot.
The Tot mentions a "Rotten Field," and when asked what that is, he says:
"It’s where they bury the bulls’ bones. The place is covered with fur instead of grass, and it’s all bones bones bones underground. Bones and horns. Yeah."
Why are so many bones and horns and hides being thrown into a field instead of being used in some way? Either for jewelry, clothes, or for tradesmen's tools, these things have a variety of uses.
The Carouser, when asked about the Abattoir, says:
"Hundreds of bulls are being slaughtered there- what else is there to know? It is our humble town that provides the whole Northeastern region with beef! Or even the whole country mayhap."
It's because of the massive scale of the Bull Project that so much excess material is being produced and then thrown into the fields and rivers as waste products. Nothing is in higher demand than meat, nothing is needed as regularly, and perhaps the people in the Capital and in other towns are less interested in buying blood or bone. It's not profitable, the Olgimskys don't view it as anything but by products of more lucrative things.
Aspity says:
"All that water comes from the Steppe and it isn’t exactly clean. Yesterday I inspected all the springs in the area; there seems to be no more clean water around. That salty taste is everywhere, it’s reddish in colour, and there are disgusting clots in it."
And when Bachelor asks for more information, she says:
"The towsnfolk store water in home-made reservoirs. This modest supply should be enough to help us last a little while, but afterwards we’ll have to drink that bloody mixture."
Bachelor reacts to this with disgust, and can even insist she is lying, perhaps because he had been benefitting from this disgusting reality in his life in the Capital.
Aspity's whole point in starting this conversation is to make blatantly clear some of the side effects of the Steppe's occupation, which is that the waste material of the Abattoir is dumped into the river and land. This problem would be lessened in severity if the community was manufacturing meat not for the sake of providing for the entire country, but just for the local population and what's necessary to export in exchange for other essential imports. Obviously, this would be less lucrative for the Olgimskys (who don't care as long as they don't suffer any loss) but it would mean that the people who live here would better be able to care for themselves and the land with no need to think of supporting an entire country off the backs of one small community. The occupation of the Steppe, the running of the Bull Project, will not only destroy the Kin and lower classes, but will also eventually kill the town, the higher classes and even the Olgimskys as well. When the water runs out, it will run out for the lower classes first, but it will eventually run out for everyone.
More on Fat Vlad trying to talk about this all as if it were an inescapable, natural reality (and the Bachelor's fighting against this notion) later. Sort of how some people think that the way the world works, capitalism and such, are natural laws instead of constructed ideas (horrible fallacy).

I want to revisit Daniil’s relationship with death now that I’ve pickled my brain in Pathologic because I’m obsessed with it. I know I have to accept that to an extent Daniil’s precise relationship with mortality is ambiguous and left to the player, which I prefer in many ways because it leaves room for multiple characterizations and themes to coexist. That said I’m fascinated by it and especially to what extent Daniil fears death; I’ve always sort of taken that he isn’t, really, or at least not to a maladaptive extent.
There are only two moments I can think of in the Bachelor Route where fear of death arises directly, and all of it is relatively up to the player. When Peter accuses Daniil of fearing death, the player’s options are “Well, no, I don’t... But go on” or “And you don’t? On the other hand, obsession does indeed eliminate fear.” Which I find quite intriguing because yes, Daniil is referring to Peter’s obsessions, but I find it delightfully mischievous to apply this to Daniil, too, and imagine that he might have smothered his own fear of death through his obsession with defeating it. He also has this dialogue with Lara:
Lara Ravel: Everyone says that it's impossible to kill death itself, but I can't let go of the hope that someone might eventually succeed.
> Doctors are said to be the people whose very job is to defeat death. *
> It's just an idea to strive for.
Lara Ravel: I've always known that I'd throw everything away and follow the man who achieves that to the ends of the earth. If he wouldn't have me as a partner, I'd serve him. If he wouldn't have me by his side, I'd serve him from the shadows.
> Are you that afraid of death? *
Lara Ravel: Utterly...
> There is no need to fear death.
> I'll try to help you people. I really will.
Here he outright says not to fear death, and I feel this is consistent with this remark from his journal: “If my encounter with death is so inevitable, then I should prepare myself for it. As ludicrous as it may be, the thought sends a chill down my spine.” Daniil seemingly finds it strange that he fears a potential encounter with death; but even if he thinks it’s ridiculous, he is still afraid. Regarding Daniil’s reaction to potential death, I lastly want to bring up Daniil’s dialogue options before being shot by the rouge firing squad. His dialogue options range from desperate, resigned, and defiant:  “But this is absolutely absurd! Wait! I’m not the person you were going to shoot!”, “Fine. But not to the car, take me to the Steppe. I want to have a smoke before I die...” and “I won’t go down without a fight, you lowlives!” To me, the latter two options feel most consistent with Daniil’s actions, but the game still offers the idea here that Daniil is afraid to die. Again, I think this is all left to individual interpretation in the end, but I think Daniil is more defiant than afraid of death. I doubt fear is a primary motivator for him, then, but I think he could be a little more afraid of dying than he lets on or even believes himself to be.
But returning to that dialogue with Lara, it’s one instance of that contradiction which makes me want to chew my floorboards. Specifically how he tells her that it’s “just an idea to strive for.” He likewise tells Lara that “We’ll all die in due time” and Griff “Everyone  has to die, can’t argue with that.” which. Darling what. What was all that about then. I even wonder if he’s being sardonic or mocking himself, because at this point he’s so completely fucked it’s like some inside joke with himself. But then there’s this dialogue, which I want to properly dissect because it has me in a chokehold:
Tot: Is it true that they can raise people from the dead in the Capital?
> Who told you such nonsense?*
> Yes, it is.
Tot: My dad! He read about you in the papers.
> I just wanted to make it so that people would live longer, really. And preferably, on their own accord.
Tot: Sounds cool! So they wouldn’t be able to die on someone else’s accord then, right?
> That would be too cool to be true.
> People will forever keep dying on someone else’s accord.
Again, it’s the player’s choice whether Daniil is a straight-up necromancer or a scientist with a far more modest goal than he claims. Necromancer Daniil is a delightful concept but in-game, I prefer the interpretation that Daniil has made impressive strides in medical science, but nothing to the height of ‘defeating death.’ This conversation feels almost defeatist to me, almost like he’s backing down. After being renowned as this famed fighter of death and claiming death is his enemy, he then professes “I just want...” and those last lines don’t differ; they’re both concessions that immortality is impossible. Daniil even tells Eva, “I can barely understand it myself” about his own goddamn goal, and I think this all fits into his failure to properly understand the Polyhedron; it all circles back again to Daniil being narratively doomed to reinforce the theme of the futility of utopia

Thinking about the gold mine of dynamics at the Canute farmhouse... you have the grumpiest most disillusioned man that ever lived, the snarky Type-A project manager, a pompous self-obsessed cartoon of a man, and your typical homegrown southern boy mechanic.
Then there's the actual relationships these people have. None of them are exactly friends but they all just choose to be amused at their colleagues' quirks since they're forced to exist here together anyway. Chase and Frosty canonically don't "get" each other, yet they're swapping USB drives like that's a Normal Thing To Do. Scott apologizes to Nancy with his tail between his legs after getting a stern talking to from Debbie offscreen -- which implies that Debbie has some kind of authoritative pull over him, even though he's the boss? lmao?? The way they all just tell the new girl to deliver their shit to each other rather than walking 8 feet to do it themselves. Frosty's goofy-ass fear of mice and Scott's deadpan "Yes, that was Frosty." (this is nothing new). Chase literally stealing from Pa's museum yet talking shit about everyone else, albeit in the most polite and apologetic way possible. Frosty's pathological need to impress Scott even though he can't stand the man. For some reason we learn that Debbie loves live theatre? Her, Chase, and Frosty all go to the theater together? Scott is allergic to cats? Debbie goes to bed at like 4 in the afternoon and insists that Nancy do the same? Every single member of Scott's team hates cheese candy (at least in lieu of regular candy)? Also, their collective hivemind in gaslighting the intern with fierce insistence over a broken camera? Like, idk, there's so much there for absolutely no reason 😂
They've been my favorite cast since I wrote a TOT AE in like 2013 or so. They're just so fuckin weird and Shaped 😂

🌟 get to know people game 🌟
tagged by @koloocheh  🍪 [folding both tags in one :D]
current time: just past noon. sleepy hours.
anything you've been doing lately: teaching a summer course as of last week. kinda blows ngl—any time i am instructing/TAing i am exhausted by the multiply adversarial relationships the academy sets up between instructors, TAs, students, administration, etc. everybody has different reasons for being here and it produces mass disaffection. need to get out of here!!
anything you intend to do later: sleep. plan my next lecture ToT. maybe even read something! would be cool if i could scrounge together some supplementary readings on machine thought so i might hop into a dennett bibliography or something
anything you recently watched or played: dude these days it’s a round of pubg here and there and if i’m lucky something with a story—pathologic 2 on my immediate todo as you know UvU but i wanna read some brecht first istg
anything else you'd like to say: what is called the Weiss-Wiesemann or Rougon-Macquart coefficient in Elysium, which refers to “a ratio designed to reflect the difference in net worth between individuals, which has been observed that when the coefficient reaches about .96 or so, the laws of physics begin to bend around the high-net-worth individual” [source] is presumably inspired by the real-world phenomenon of gravitational lensing. we infer that a sufficiently wealthy individual—one who achieves a wealth singularity perhaps—will manifest as a black hole in Elysium. we infer also that you can get a very rich guy in Elysium and use them as a telescope.
Last song: Tiger King from the DE OST >:3
Currently watching: 1899 bc i admit to being a slut for sci fi that takes itself very seriously so long as the writing is tight
Currently reading: currently in between books but might fuck around and read ninefox gambit finally
Current obsession: in the research phase of gathering everything i can find about entroponetics bc i got a shai-hulud size brainworm i need to put to words soon. it makes sense that prime number generators are used for pale latitude compression given that entroponetically the pale consists of information in a gradient of low-to-lowest entropy and prime numbers might be conceived of as high-entropy information/carriers of information “work” analogous to work in the mechanical sense and can thereby impose a narrow path of workable higher entropy thru the pale. forthcoming.
tagging anyone i interact with who feels like it :)

Welcome to my classroom!
About Me
Hello, there. I'm Mr. Squid and this is a sideblog. The mainblog @pensarecool2 isn't totally sfw, but if you're looking for my other regression blogs, check out @padded-daydreams and @tiny-prismatic-tot. Anyways, I am 19 years old, autistic, and I am also a DID system. I'm just going to be using "I/Me" here for simplicity. I have age regressors and syskids in my system, so I like interacting with the community at large in general. I have chosen the name "Mr. Squid" to use on this sideblog, because why not?
About the Blog
Here on this blog, I set up various queues of coloring pages (and other activity sheets) so that they'll be spaced out. I will also reblog activity sheets as I come across them (or sometimes save them for later to fill them in before posting). I will reblog various regression media and caregiver-related content. I will try to tag as much as possible, just in case, however, please feel free to let me know if there's anything you would like tagged in the future.
Interactions
This blog is a safe space open to regressors of any kind. Whether you be an age regressor, age dreamer, system little, pet regressor, etc, you're welcome here! Feel free to submit asks, so long as you keep things appropriate. You can ask for different types of activity sheets for the future, submit fun regression or caregiver scenarios, or anything else you can think of, so long as you keep it appropriate. I'd also like to encourage you to reblog coloring sheets with colored-in versions if you so choose. Try to reblog from a sfw account, but so long as you're not reblogging from an explicitly nsfw account, it'll probably be fine.
DNI

Pedophiles/MAPs/whatever you want to call yourself
Bigots (transphobes, homophobes, trans-medicalists, TERFs, anti-semitics, racists, trans-id/trans-x, ableists, etc)
Those who stigmatize others based on their disorders, or try to pathologize abuse
Those who infantilize others who do not wish to be, or assume that being autistic is synonymous with being an age regressor

sorry been watching a playthrough of pathologic but was it ever found out what funeral teensy and tot? because the way on day 1 - all of the young children (the ones who share models with teensy and tot) refer to a grandfather dying. this refers to simon - but in a double sense, it could refer to the funeral the children playing the game are at. it also makes a bit of sense - one of the children refers to when grandpa gets revived, and a new game begins, he wishes to be a hunter who can hold stars in his hands. now again, this seems to hint at a meta moment - when the children make a new game, they'll make different dolls different things, while at the same time referring to grandfather being revived. i dont know if this makes sense or if this is something obvious but <3

My pathology professor’s fav Modigliani!! (I tots forgot about his birthday) • Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani was born on this day in 1884. Working mainly in France, Modigliani is most famous for his iconic portraits characterised by a surreal elongation of faces, necks, and figures—including this painting of Hanka Zborowska.
