just played like 6 hrs of patho 2. scum saved after peter died despite me doing everything i could for him and gave him a schmowder. the next chance he got, he got infected again. trying to do a save everyone route but im tempted to just let him die to teach him a lesson

I've updated my lore spreadsheet with height data for all of the minor (non-Bound) NPCs in the original Pathologic, in both metric and imperial measurement! There's also now a combined height list for all models in the game. Here are a few height highlights:

Oyun remains the tallest character, even taller than the "giant" Powers that Be models; Nina Kaina remains the tallest woman despite not being in the game

Executors are 197 cm / 6'6'' tall

Taya is exactly the same height as Teensy NPCs, and shorter than the Rat Prophet

Notkin is (sort of) taller than a Worm

The Albino is taller than the Haruspex

The average height between all characters is 170 cm / 5'7''

Hello! I'm getting caught up on all your amazing asks here... But here's my pre-emptive Ask for Storytelling Saturday for next week:

Describe your WIP in bullet points so my ADHD brain gets it quickly!

hey hey Belle!! oh man, I also have to clean out my inbox, it's getting a bit embarrassing haha... I know you said this is a pre-emptive STS ask, but!.. I saw it and got excited lol, so you're getting it answered Now

so! my current WIP, When White Crows Cry, described in bullet points:

(this is gonna be long)

it's a science fantasy?? only instead of robots and space we have chemistry and pathology lol

also dark academia vibes

set in a secondary world reminiscent of 19th century-esque europe, only with modern advancements in science

the magic system is science-based - essentially, if you wanna manipulate the fabric of reality, you gotta. understand said fabric of reality

so, to cast a believable illusion you need to perfectly understand color and light and depth and all that (so you gotta be a kickass realism artist lol)

or, to change a glass ball into a gold one, you gotta understand the molecular composition of each material and know how to manipulate it so it would change forms

there's one tiny teensy issue with magic, though - it is a limited resource ahaha

ANYWAY that's the gist of it

main character - Quil, an exceptional transmutation mage who got exiled some years ago for performing human transmutation (very bad very taboo)

(he, of course, continues doing human transmutation)

(despite the Trauma)

the second most important character - Endra, who has this nasty magical parasite slowly eating away at his body and mind, and his only hope at a cure is... human transmutation

you can see where this is going

anyway so that's the Past timeline - Quil trying to figure out what's going on with Endra's body and finding a way to fix it

(this is also the Romance timeline lol)

we also have the Present timeline

and that starts with Quil getting revived a year after his death in the country he'd gotten exiled from

:0!

(that's literally the first chapter so it's not a spoiler lol)

anyway he gets offered a Deal - help his ex-mentor with her project that could potentially save magic, and in exchange he'd get amnesty

the issue? he really, really hates his ex-mentor

and he would have really, really preferred to stay dead

this whole magic dying thing is Not his problem, either lol

counter issue? the project concerns the same magic parasite that Endra had (has?), so it could put him in danger, and Quil quite literally would die again before he let that happen, so.

he agrees

(so that he could sabotage it lol)

but also! Quil doesn't know what happened with Endra post his death, so that's something he works on figuring out as well

(he gets far more questions than answers. where IS this guy)

anywayyy that's the gist of the story

now for the lightning round

a lot of fucked up queer characters in general

an incredibly spiteful trans protagonist who just wants to be left the fuck alone but everyone insists on dragging him into their shit, so instead he's gonna Make them leave him alone

everyone wanting you to live apart from You

magic biology! magic chemistry! magic science! nerd shit!

I finished Pathologic 2. 

Surprisingly, after being beaten to an absolute pulp in the Abattoir, the rest of the game was a breeze. Perhaps it’s because I was lucky with infection rolls at night, after diligently boosting everyone’s immunity where possible. I had enough cures for almost all the kids leaving the Abattoir. I found shmowders in the caches and at the Dead Item Shop, enough to save everyone. As soon as I realized no one would die I felt like I’d felled a dragon. 

One thing that unexpectedly saved me was my piles of nuts that I collected to trade to Teensies for shmowders. They were all gone from the Town, no more use for the nuts... so at one point I was starving and I ate them all. Contrary to the game’s advice. It actually filled me up, that’s how many I had. Trail mix for the win. I was watching the very long final theater play, standing on the bleachers on stage next to Daniil, felt like we were on a date or something, like eating raisinets at the movie theater. 

I fought Barley’s gang by jumping on top of the boxes where Grief’s reflection once crouched, and shooting them with Lara’s gun, after I bought the last few bullets from Barley himself. It fucking ruled, 10/10 hilarious anti-gank. 

On impulse I chose Nocturnal Ending. I couldn’t say no to Noukher, and weirdly I trusted Daniil. I actually had missed him for all the days he wasn’t around and was too happy to see him again to question his choices. 

I promised the Townsfolk leaving that I would join them. And I did. 

When I got to the top of the Polyhedron I tried to punch the Rat Prophet off the Tower. This is the correct way to deal with him. 

Also. After the final conversation in the Theater. I’m just going to say it. Mark Immortell kinda fucks. He’s kinda hot. Maybe this is something that happens after you reach max deaths, something shifts in your brain chemistry and you find him attractive. But he is. He’s got gender for days. He is the tumblr sexyman yall have been sleeping on. I’d still aim for something nonconventional regarding portraying this though. I think he’s ace and nonbinary. 

On that note...

Fuck yeah. Good game.

sorry been watching a playthrough of pathologic but was it ever found out what funeral teensy and tot? because the way on day 1 - all of the young children (the ones who share models with teensy and tot) refer to a grandfather dying. this refers to simon - but in a double sense, it could refer to the funeral the children playing the game are at. it also makes a bit of sense - one of the children refers to when grandpa gets revived, and a new game begins, he wishes to be a hunter who can hold stars in his hands. now again, this seems to hint at a meta moment - when the children make a new game, they'll make different dolls different things, while at the same time referring to grandfather being revived. i dont know if this makes sense or if this is something obvious but <3

Shmowder Gathering Strat (Trading)

So here's some musings from my recent pathologic streams (which you can watch here)

I wanted to test some stuff out as I've been trying to figure out how certain aspects of the game works in order to make doing something like a challenge run viable

As most people know, shmowder is one of the rare items that can completely cure you of the plague, along with panacea. Panacea is only widely accessible in the haruspex route due to being able to make it eventually, whereas shmowder is bought from the 'Teensy' child NPC as seen below, they have a vlaue of 10 and very rarely appear as a tradeable item. They also appear in infected houses but my findings are for trading specifically.

I found that trading NPCs that wonder about the town (such as the children and carousers) will have set inventories upon talking to them that don't change for as long as you can see and interact with them, i.e. if you talk to a carouser who has nothing on him, then that specific carouser will still have nothing till he despawns out of view or you go into a building. In addition, multiple of the same NPCs occupying a space will have different inventories that will, again, be static until they despawn.

When you exit a building any NPCs that spawn in the area will have their inventories pre-rolled before talking to them, and re-entering the building and exiting will usually cause all current NPCs in the area to despawn, so they won't be there upon exiting. However, something I found is that every time an area is loaded after going through a door, the NPCs inventories will re-roll, this means that if you saved before exiting a building and a trading NPC spawned outside when you exited, every time you reload that save and exit, that trading NPC will have a different inventory, you can use this to your advantage!

I managed to buy two shmowders from the Teensy NPC because I got lucky that twice when I exited a building there was a Teensy NPC in the area that I could talk to (NPC spawns after reloads seemed to be the same every time and I need to experiment more on how that might work), so I simply reloaded the save I made before exiting the building to re-roll their inventory until they had a shmowder I could buy, it took a while, but if you haven't found any for a while or haven't found ANY then this is an easy, albeit time consuming strategy to use, I don't know the chance of a shmowder being a rolled item, but it will eventually roll into the inventory for you to buy
