When her body hit the ground, a sharp pain spread throughout her body like a wave. And from deep within her a loud cry escaped. She felt her throat burn as the sound left her. She could feel her own hair stick to the wetness left behind on her face by her own tears. She looked around, and fear took over her once more. Her eyes were open, but all she could see through the tears was a blur. She blinked a few times, and the image in front of her became a bit clearer, but she could still not make out one thing from another. She was panting, panicking as she could not catch her breath. She felt her chest burn from the lack of air. She thought she was going to die.
Then she heard voices, but she felt like she was underwater. The voices seemed distant, and she could not understand what they were saying. And then she felt warmth. A pair of arms wrapped around her shaking figure, holding her tight, trying to bring comfort to her. “You’re safe, princess.” The voice was soft, kind, reassuring. And as he rocked her, her lungs finally welcomed air back into themselves. “You’re with us.” The voice vibrated against her skin, sending warm shivers travelling all over her body. And as her brain registered and recognised that voice, she felt as if her heart was being wrapped in a soft blanket. “You’re with me.” The words were spoken directly against her forehead, and that was when she allowed herself to close her eyes, before burying her face in his chest and closing her hands into tight fists, gripping his t-shirt, worried it might come back and take her away from them once again.
Steve had never seen the gang so quiet. They had always been able to find something to say, something to bicker about. But now the only thing he could hear was the gentle wind rustling the leaves on the trees. He had already seen it, Vecna’s curse. He was there when it had happened to Max. But this time it was different. He loved Max. Everyone did. But seeing her like that, defenceless, lifted into the air by some sort of interdimensional demon no one could see but her, he was sure he had felt his own heart tear into piece. They knew Vecna attacked those who had problems, some sort of unresolved trauma. And yes, he knew she still felt guilty for what had happened to her father, but he had never realised just how much she was actually hurting. Y/N had been there for every single one of them. She had been there, listening to him whine about girls. She had comforted Robin whenever she had had problems with her family. She had been by her brother’s side every single day, supporting him and taking care of him. She had offered Max a shoulder to cry on when Billy had died. She had been the one Nancy went to when she had problems with her job or her relationships. She had been there for Lucas and his sister, offering to look after them and babysit them for free when their parents had had problems with their jobs. She had been there for every single one of them, she had put everyone’s needs before hers, and never once she had complained, never once she said no because she had her own problems to deal with. She had helped ever single one of them, in one way or another, and none of them had never really stopped and asked her if she needed help, a hug, or a shoulder to cry on. And now they had almost lost her.
“Is she…” Dustin broke the silence and took a step forward, towards his sister. His voice was low, shaky, and he had lost his usual confidence. “Is she okay?” He stood a few feet away, afraid to walk closer, afraid to find out she was not okay.
Eddie kept his eyes on her all the time, a hand gently brushing hair away from her face, as the other stroke her back gently. He could feel her warm breath against his neck, her chest irregularly raising and falling. “She’s okay.” And it was only then that Steve realised most of them had been holding their breaths. He looked around and studied the kids, studied his friends. Max leaned into Lucas’s side with a sigh of relief; Nancy threw her head back and put a hand on her chest while the other laid on Robin’s shoulder, who closed her eyes, a few tears rolling down her cheeks. He himself didn’t know what to do, he was too afraid to look away, too scared something might still happen to her, so he just kept looking in front of him.
“Can I- can I come closer?” Dustin’s voice broke, as he stood there, waiting for the raven-haired man to give him the signal that it was okay. And when Eddie nodded, Steve watched the head of curls drop to his knees, right beside her. “Y/N” He whispered. “Please, talk to us.” Dustin was barely recognisable. “Please, I need to hear your voice.”
He was on the verge of tears when a soft voice, almost a whisper, spoke. “Dustin…” She didn’t move, but the voice was hers. And the boy almost couldn’t believe it was true. But then she spoke again. “Dustin?” And this time the girl moved her head, only slightly, but yet enough for her brother to see her face, to see her eyes slightly open.
And then, he let go. He threw his arms around her, taking her from Eddie’s arms and pulling her against his own chest. “Shit, Y/N!” He cried, burying his face in her hair. “I thought I had lost you.” He spoke through the tears. And as Steve looked around, he could have sworn he had seen Eddie wiping away a tear.
“I’m here.” The girl whispered, wrapping her own arms around her brother, reciprocating the hug with the little strength she had in her.
Eddie watched in silence as the girl was pulled away from him. But he didn’t protest, he had no right to. So, he just stood up and moved away, as a way to give space to the siblings, to show respect for the moment. However, in his heart, he didn’t want to let her go. He wanted to keep her there, in his arms. He wanted to just hold her, and then tell her everything, tell her what he was going to tell her before everything happened. But he couldn’t. It would have been too selfish of him. There, all around them, were her brother, her best friends, the people she grew up with or that she watched grow up. They all had more right than him to be there, to talk with her. He was no one. Just the freak. So, he just quietly moved away. No one would notice he was gone anyway.
“Shit, Y/N, I was so scared.” Dustin wiped his face, finally looking at her. “One moment you were fine, and the other you were in a trance.” He held her tightly, too afraid that if he let go of her, they would take her away from him. “Please, don’t you ever do something like that ever again.” He whispered. His hands gently caressed her hair, her cheeks, and she leaned into his touch. A soft yet sad smile pulled at the corners of her lip. “What’s wrong?” He knew her too well.
She couldn’t keep the images the saw out of her mind. Whenever she blinked, she saw it, she saw its empty eyes, she saw its long fingers, she could even still hear its inhuman voice echo in her ears. “He showed me dad.” That was the only thing she said, the only thing she could bring herself to say, as she could still feel the tightening sensation of the tentacle around her throat.
“What? What do you mean?” Her brother looked at her, his eyes fixed on her. “Did he show you a memory? Did he show you that memory?”
She shook her head, pushing herself to talk. “No, he… he just showed me dad. He talked to me…” She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. “He made him say such mean things… he said that it was my fault, that I was to blame.” And when she though she no longer had tears left to cry, a single bead of water slowly rolled down her cheek. “He said that you hate me, that you think it’s my fault. And that everyone pities me.”
“That’s not true.” She had only heard him being that resolute during his D&D campaigns, he never needed to be in real life. But when she opened her eyes and met his, she saw a hint of hurt. “That’s not fucking true. I don’t hate you.” He lowered his voice slightly. “I could never hate you.”
“But I killed him.” Her voice broke. They had never really talked about it. She had always been too afraid to learn to truth, to find out his true feelings. And now, he was holding her as if he were the older sibling and she just had a nightmare.
“No, you didn’t.” He shook his head, the curls that escaped the hold of the baseball cap slightly moving. “That drunk driver did.”
“But if I hadn’t distracted him-”
“He died a happy man. I’m sure of it.” He smiled. It was a sad smile, a nostalgic one, because he had never really like talking about their father. “He was always happy whenever he sang with you. He was happy whenever he did anything with either of us, even more when it was both of us together.” And like in one of those sappy movies, all the happy memories with her father and her brother flashed in her mind, and she couldn’t help but smile. “But it’s not your fault, okay? Stop blaming yourself.”
She nodded. “I’m sorry.”
“And stop saying sorry!” He laughed, which made her laugh in return.
She leaned into him, hugging him tightly, before looking around and studying the space around her. She studied the trees, the quality of the air, the sunlight peaking through the branches of the trees, and she could feel herself relax more and more whenever she found something that was completely different from what he had showed her. Then she looked at her friends, slowly moving her eyes from one person to the other, smiling at each of them, until she noticed it. “Where’s Eddie?”
Everyone looked at each other, quietly searching with their eyes the raven-haired man. “He was here just a few moments ago, I swear.” Robin said, standing up from where she had been sitting.
Steve looked around, until he noticed a figure in the distance, sitting with his back against a tree deep in the forest. “I see him.” He pointed in his direction. Y/N followed the invisible line drawn by the man’s finger, until she saw the head of hair peeking through from behind a tree. She pulled herself to her feet, not without struggling, and then started walking in his direction. “Where do you think you’re going?” Steve immediately ran to her side.
“I need to talk to him.” She said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
He put an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer to him, a way to give her support, but at the same time to feel her, to know she was okay. “You’re not walking there alone.”
“Steve, I’m okay. I’m just a bit… tired. But that’s it. I can walk by myself.”
“I’m not leaving you alone again.” He nodded forward, as a way to tell her to start walking. “The last time I did it, I almost lost you. So, allow me to be worried about my best friend for a moment here, okay?”
Y/N looked at her best friend in silence for a moment, then smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder. “Thank you, Steve.”
“For what?”
“Well, for starters, you didn’t leave me.” They kept walking, leaving the small clearing and the gang behind. “And I’m here, I’m okay. So, thank you.”
He shook his head, his eyes following the makeshift path on the ground in front of them. “I’m the last person you should thank.” Y/N knew her best friend well enough to know he was disappointed with something. “I left you to go with Nance when I should have stayed by your side. And even before that, I should’ve fought when you asked to stay with Eddie at the boat-house.”
“You know you wouldn’t have been able to make me leave, right?”
“I could have tried!” He stopped walking. “Listen, Y/N, I know I’ve been a horrible friend lately. I always only talked about my problems, and whenever you tried to share things with me, I criticised you.” He huffed, brushing a strand of hair out of his face. “Even with Munson. You… you tried to tell me he was nice, that he wasn’t what I thought, what everyone says he is. But I was too stupid, or too jealous maybe. I just couldn’t accept the fact that you had found someone else, some you liked, someone you felt safe with. I… I really thought it was going to be just you, me and Robin for the rest of our lives. You would go to college and we would come live with you. You would become a businesswoman and we would come work for you. And in my mind, it was just the three of us, growing old together. No one else. I know it was selfish of me, to think you wouldn’t need someone else. But maybe I didn’t want you to find someone else. I wanted you to need me. I needed to know that you really liked me as a person, that you need me as your best friend.”
Y/N listened quietly, smiling. “I do like you, Steve. And you are my best friend. And as my best friend, I will always need you to come and cheer me up, or even just gossip about people we went to school with while lying on the floor of my room. I will always need that.”
“But you also need a boyfriend.”
“I don’t need a boyfriend!” She laughed, playfully elbowing him on his side. “But I need someone else to talk to about other things. I can’t burden you and Robin with everything. There will always be things I can’t talk about with you because you just don’t like them or don’t know them. Take Lord of the Rings, for example. You read it because I made you, but as much as you said you enjoyed it, you still didn’t like it as much I do.”
“But Munson does…” He bit the inside of his lip. He had been jealous of Eddie Munson ever since she had first mentioned him. He knew him from school, he knew about his reputation, about what he did, and he couldn’t accept the fact that she found him interesting, that she liked him. But she had always been a good judge of character. It was as if she had this superpower that allowed her to always understand someone’s personality even before actually getting to know them. And whenever he would ask her how she knew, she would simply reply that she just knew.
“Eddie is a good person.” Y/N tried to catch his attention, to look him in the eyes.
“As much as it pains me to say this, he is.” He finally met her eyes. “I’m sorry it took me so long, but I see that now. And I understand why you like him.” A puzzled expression appeared on her face, as if she was quietly asking him why or how. “He learned your favourite song. He played it on his guitar for you. That’s why you’re safe. None of us could remember your favourite song. We always listen to music together in the car, and I couldn’t think of a goddamn song you told me you liked. If he didn’t play that song, I don’t know what would have happened. So, yeah, I like him now because he saved your life. I owe him a thank you.”
Y/N bit the inside of her cheek to try and hide the corner of her mouth that was trying to rise into a smile. “I jokingly told him once that it was my favourite song. It was only a couple of days ago. I didn’t think he-”
“Well, he did.” Steve sighed. “And I guess it goes to show how much he cares about you.” He looked her in the eyes once again. “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”
“You had every right to. You never really knew him, only through what people said about him at school and around town. And a good part of the things they say aren’t true. So, it’s not your fault, you were led to think that.” She raised her shoulders, starting to walk once again. “I just hope you two will be able to get to know each other, and maybe even become friends. It would mean a lot to me.”
Steve linked his arm with hers, walking by her side. “I’ll try, I promise.” He smiled, placing a quick kiss on her temple.
They walked like that for a while, quietly, with arms linked, until they were close to where Eddie was sitting. At that point Steve gave her another quick kiss on her forehead, smiled and then left. And then she was alone, a few feet away from the man. Immediately, as a reflex, she tried to fix her hair, redoing her ponytail, as if she felt the need to make herself presentable for him. Then she took a deep breath and walked over to him. “Eddie?” She called his name.
When he came into view, she noticed him quickly blowing smoke out of his mouth and waving it away with one hand, while the other tried to hide whatever he had been smoking. “’M sorry.” He said, clearing his throat and keeping his eyes low on the ground.
“You can keep smoking, I don’t mind.” She said, standing on his side, towering over him and shifting her weight from one foot to the other. “Can I… can I sit here?”
“Yeah, sure, of course! I’m- I’m sorry.” He spoke quickly, moving to the side to make room for her to lay her back against the tree.
She took her seat next to him, immediately bringing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. “Why are you sitting here alone?”
“I thought you guys might want some space.”
“You guys you mean Dustin and me?” She asked, confused.
“No… you and your friends.” He kept his eyes low in front of him, studying the leaves on the ground a few inches away from his feet.
She leaned slightly to the side, looking for any sort of contact with him. “You’re my friend too, Eddie.” She spoke softly. “Maybe more than a friend, actually.” She said, lowering her voce. It was the first time she was, in some way, putting into words her feelings towards him. And, yes, she felt the blood rushing to her cheeks, but she thought it useless to hide it.
However, Eddie wasn’t looking. He was too busy trying to hide his own blushing cheeks from the girl. He shook his head but he didn’t move away. On the contrary, he moved his hand to find hers. “Yeah, but I don’t think most of them would like the idea of that.”
“If that’s what you think, then you definitely don’t know them.” She let him take her hand in his, and as always, he immediately started playing with her fingers. “Even Steve just told me he approves you.”
“You’re just saying that to make me feel better.” He scoffed, shaking his head, a soft giggle leaving his lips.
“Actually, I’m not.” She looked to her side and squeezed his hand in hope to get his attention, since he hadn’t looked her in the eyes once since she had come to him.
He finally turned to meet her eyes and laughed. “The Steve Harrington approves of me. I’m this worthy?”
“Don’t gloat too much, or he might change his mind.” She laughed, moving even closer to him, so that their legs were pressed together. She leaned over to him, laying her head on his shoulder. And for a few moments, no one talked, no one said anything. They just stayed there, sitting quietly, the only sounds that could be heard were the birds chirping in the trees. It would have been a perfect day to just hang out. And if it had been any other day, they could have done that. They could have gone there, in the woods, sitting like they were doing in that moment, with their backs against a tree. She could have had her notebook with her, writing the story for Hellfire, while Eddie would have brought his guitar and a notebook of his own, writing a new song. She wasn’t sure if Eddie wrote his own music, but if she closed her eyes, she could perfectly see him sitting there, with the guitar in his lap, secured with a strap around his shoulder, leaning over it to erase what he had just wrote to change the lyrics or a chord. She could have spent hours like that. No one would have had to say anything. There was no need for words. They could have just smiled at each other every once in a while, quietly enjoying each other's company. But that wasn’t any other day. She had just lived through a nightmare and he had saved her life. That wasn’t any normal day.
“Thank you, by the way.” Her voice broke the silence. Eddie turned his head to catch a glimpse of her. He had a puzzled expression on his face. “For not letting me die.” Eddie looked away, trying to hide the pinkish tone that was rising from his neck to his cheeks. “Steve told me what you did. I… I didn’t think you were actually going to learn it.”
“If someone had told me it would’ve help me save your life, I would have skipped the last few days of school to properly learn it. I was terrible.” He was still holding her hand in his, tightly, their fingers intertwined.
“I’m pretty sure that if it wasn’t for you, I would have not made it today.” She squeezed his hand, trying to get him to look at her once again. “So, thank you. I literally owe you my life.”
“If you had died today, I would have pulled an Orpheus move, and I would have marched down to hell to bring you back.” He said, finally turning his head and meeting her eyes. He was finally exposing himself, in a way he was finally saying out loud everything that he had been holding inside of him.
She laughed under her breath. “Maybe not Orpheus.”
“Why not?”
“You know, the deal with Hades.” Eddie’s confused expression told her that he didn’t truly know the myth. “He had to walk in front of her and never look back. He had to trust that she was right behind him, following him. However, in the end, he was too worried, so he turned around right before the gate. So, the deal was broken, and Eurydice was stuck there.”
Eddie looked at her in silence for a moment, surprise painted all over his face. He really didn’t know the myth. “Okay, then not Orpheus. But you get the idea.” He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer to his chest. He wanted to kiss her. “How is it possible that I love it when you correct me, huh?” He smiled, pressing his lips against her forehead. “I swear, I couldn’t live without you. I need you here with me, to correct me when I’m wrong, or to tell me random facts and stories I could have never learned without you. So, I will do anything in my power to keep you here or bring you back, because I could never bare the idea to spend the rest of my days without you.” She looked up at him. Her eyes couldn’t help but linger for a moment on his lips, before moving quickly to his eyes. She could feel her heartbeat accelerate. “I would rather spend one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone.”
Fuck. That was it. “Don’t quote Tolkien to me.”
“Why not? I thought you loved him.”
“Yes, but I might fall even more in love with you.” She whispered, before pushing herself up and against his lips.
When their lips crashed together, Eddie was taken by surprise. Of course, he had wanted to kiss her for quite some time now, but in his head, he had imagined it going differently. He thought he was going to be the one to make the first move this time. And he had planned it perfectly. He would have taken her out on a date to the movies. They could have watched anything she liked, or maybe even the horror movie she had promised she would have watched with him. He would have bought popcorns and candy, and he would have paid for everything, like a true gentleman. He would have held her hand throughout the entire movie. In the car, while he was driving her home, he would have played her the mixtape he had been working on. They would have stayed in the car, parked outside her house, until the cassette was over. And if things had gone to plan, if the Chrissy thing hadn’t happened, he would have been able to finish the mixtape in time for their date on Saturday. And then he would have kissed her. He would have walked her to her door, and right before letting her go in, he would have wrapped his arms around her hips, he would have leaned over, and he would have kissed her goodnight. He would have given her one of those kisses you see in movies, when the lovers are completely pressed against one another, and they’re so into it that the woman ends up bending slightly backward, as the man holds her tightly to his chest. One of those kisses that doesn’t need explanations, one of those kisses that says everything and nothing at the same time. One of those kisses that you stop because you’re going to say something, but words don’t seem enough, so you go in for more. One of those kisses. But things didn’t go to plan, and now they were sitting in the woods, and she was kissing him.
It took Eddie a few moments to realise what was happening. Her lips were pressed against his. They were soft, warm. He eventually came to his senses and his hands rushed to her sides, gently moving against her body, until they found the perfect resting place on the small of her back. He pulled her closer, supporting her body as she raised one leg to put it over his. And then she was sitting astride his lap, confining him to the small space between her and the tree. Eddie could have sworn time had slowed down, and now the only thing marking it was the thud of their combined heartbeats vibrating against each other’s chests. His lips slowly parted, allowing her tongue to slip inside. And then his heart was in his throat, and he was pulling her even closer. He was kissing her with such need, as if that kiss was the only the remedy to his incurable curse. He was kissing her as if he had been underwater and she was a breath of the freshest air. His hands moved, only to allow himself to fully wrap his arms around her, not wanting that moment to ever end, not wanting her to move away. And as her hands gently moved to his hair, he could only think of how aggressively she invaded all of his senses, leaving him completely defenceless. As she rose slightly to her knees, her small frame leaning on his, he was no longer sure it was real. Did he dream this kiss to life? Did the Muses finally listen to his prayers? But when her small, cold fingers met the warm skin at the back of his neck, they sent shivers travelling down his skin, reminding him he was alive. And she was kissing him. When she eventually parted from him, only enough to give them room to catch their breaths, her forehead still pressed against his, he found himself inebriated by her smell, while at the same time he was already protesting the lack of her lips.
Neither of them dared to open their eyes, too afraid the peace they had found would simply fade away. Their synchronised breaths echoing in the small space between them, as Eddie’s hand gently caressed her back. “Y/N…” Eddie’s honeyed voice, saturated by the lust, broke the silence; he called her name with such softness, and she could fill that warm sensation in the pit of her stomach.
She had read enough books and written enough stories to know that a person generally feels butterflies in their stomach after kissing their loved one for the first time. But the warmth she felt was not accompanied by the gentle sensation of fluttering wings, but rather she could feel her stomach twist in knots, burn even, as if she had been hungry and he was the only thing she needed. She was completely lost in her own thoughts when he spoke again, so quietly she almost didn’t hear him. “Y/N, I wanted to say-”
“There’s no need to say anything.” She hummed, slowly shaking her head.
But, inside of him, Eddie could feel all those feelings fight to come out. And, if he couldn’t tell her, then he had make her feel them. He was still short of breath when he found himself pulling her in once more, claiming her lips again, with such need and intensity, until her body couldn’t hold her anymore, and she was sitting in his lap again. Now, Eddie was in control, his fingers moving gently against her body, writing the words he had longed to say but never really had the courage to. His hands explored her every curve with a mind of their own; his touch so careful, so gentle, as if he was praising his personal Aphrodite. And as his chest pressed against hers, a distant voice called them back to reality.
“Y/N! Eddie! Where are you?” The voice echoed in the woods, bouncing from one tree to the other, until it hit them.
Y/N pulled away reluctantly, her eyes still closed, her lungs struggling for air. Then another voice rang, this one slightly closer. And before they knew, an entire choir of voices was calling their names. When she eventually opened her eyes, she found Eddie’s waiting for hers only a few inches away. His lips were a darker shade of pink than normal, his cheeks blushing from the lack of air, his chest heaving. His warm hands were still on her when he finally spoke. “I think we should get up. I wouldn’t want your brother or Harrington to find us like this.” He smiled, before leaving a soft, warm kiss on the tip of her nose. Y/N still couldn’t bring herself to speak, so she simply nodded. She placed her hands on Eddie’s shoulder, to support herself as she stood up, before reaching out a hand, offering help to the man sitting at her feet.
However, Eddie had barely made it to his feet when a small figure appeared from behind the tree. “They’re here!” Max’s voice ringed in their ears, and next thing they knew, the entire gang was standing in front of them.
“Why did it take you so long? We were worried something had happened!” Dustin exclaimed, running to his sister’s side and wrapping his arms around her in a quick hug.
Y/N reciprocated the hug, briefly looking at Eddie. “We were just talking.” She smiled, as she parted from her brother.
“We got you guys clean clothes.” Nancy said, and as a trigger, Steve and Robin held up a bag each. “But you can change later in the cars, right now we need to move. There’s more police coming.” She instructed everyone to quietly move through the forest with her leading the way back to the cars. And they couldn’t do anything but comply. So, they all started walking in silence in a make-shift line.
Neither Eddie nor Y/N had fully recovered from the kiss they had shared, and just the thought of it could bring both of them to their knees. So, they tried to play it as cool as possible, tried to act as if nothing had happened, as if the passionate kiss they had just shared was just another dream they had had. But as hard as the girl fought, she couldn’t help but glance at him, walking only a few feet in front of her, as her brother jumped around, telling him how metal the thing he had done for his sister was. And as she walked, she could still feel the tingling sensation on her lips, she could still feel the warmth of his hands on her hips, on her back.
And she was so lost in the warm sensation left behind in the pit of her stomach by the memory of the kiss, that she was startled when Robin spoke. “So, did he kiss you?”
Y/N was taken aback for a moment. She shook her head, blinking away the feeling of Eddie’s breath tickling her skin above her lips. “What?”
“I said, did he kiss you?” Robin repeated herself, whisper-shouting as she leaned closer to her best friend.
“What?” Y/N looked the girl on her side, a puzzled expression on her face to hide the surprise. How did she know?
Robin sighed. “I’m that oblivious, Y/N! I saw how you looked at each other. And don’t think I’m blind either. Red lips, blushing cheeks, short of breath. You have either gone for a run or you guys kiss-”
The girl was abruptly cut off by her friend placing her hand over her mouth. “Robin!” She whisper-shouted, nodding in front of them. “They’re all here!”
Robin moved her hand away, jerking her shoulders. “And? They’re too busy talking to each other.”
“But they could hear!”
“So, he did kiss you!” Robin smiled, trying to wink to her friend, and for the first time, she almost did it right. Almost.
Y/N sighed, putting her hands in the pockets of her jeans. “No, he didn’t.”
“What? Why? You took so long! I thought you two had like a really heartfelt moment that climaxed with him giving you a kiss!” She pouted. “I was really rooting for you!”
Y/N glanced in front of her, her gaze lingering on his figure for a moment, before falling to the ground in front of her. “We had a heartfelt moment. We talked. But he didn’t kiss me.”
“I really thought he was finally gonna do-”
“I did it.” Y/N spoke quickly, the words came out almost like a cluster of sounds, so much that Robin looked at her best friend with a confused expression on her face. “I did it.” She sighed, trying to hide the blush colouring her cheeks. “I kissed him.” She almost whispered the words. She had no clue why, after having showed so much courage and having kissed the man she had been pining for for months probably, she would feel shy at the idea of telling her best friend what she did.
“You did?” If Y/N had been watching, she would have noticed the biggest grin forming on her best friend’s lips. But she hadn’t been looking, since her eyes were fixed on the ground, so she didn’t even notice the hug that came after which made her stop in her tracks. Robin let her entire weight crash against her best friend, as she engulfed her in a warm embrace. “I’m so proud of you, Y/N/N.” She whispered in her ear. “And I’m so glad you’re alive. I really thought I was going to lose you this time.”
Y/N wrapped her arms around the girl’s body, pulling her closer to herself. “You’re not going to lose me, Roro, I promise.” She whispered. “I still have many more years of tormenting you to do.” She giggled, before pulling away slightly, just enough to be able to look at her in the eyes. “You’re not getting rid of me so easily.”

Sad story ahead!
Steve Harrington x dying reader.
Summary: The mall scene! Reader and Billy are half siblings bc Neil cheated on your mom with Billy’s mom. Steve and you are dating
Warning! Talks about seeing ghost and bunch of trauma. This does talk/ imply that you were suicidal! Talk is that in the song says suicide in your arms tonight. Implying that you didn’t care about dying. (Which neither do I but I don’t know if that suicidal)
Based of the song Arms Tonite by Mother Mother
“Y/N!” I yell as she block Billy from the Mind Flayer. I run over to her and ignore everything.
“Y/n?” I hold her body in mine as she’s covered in blood.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, you’ll be okay. We’ll get out of here.”
“Steve-.”
“Shh save your energy.” I take my shit off and try to stop the bleeding.
“Baby I’m not gonna make it. Please just keep Max safe.”
“Don’t talk like that.”
“I know Billy can but just help him.”
“Billy needs you. I need you!” She pushes the shirt off and I hold her back in my arms. I know she right but I don’t want too.
“I know but at- least I died in your arms.”
“No your not.”
“I love you.”
“Please- what about all the promises we made?” She kiss my cheek with the last of her strength.
“Please I need you.” She smiles sadly and her eyes get tired.
“Y/n I love you too.” She slowly falls limp in my arms as I hug her closer.
“Y/n?” Max asks as tears run down her face as she holds Billy’s body. She screams and Lucas holds her tight as both her step siblings were died.
Steve finally found out why you hated your dad. He was abusive to you and Billy. The dick had tried to sell your guys stuff. Steve bought it all and made sure Max had gotten whatever she wanted from you guy. At the funeral where your mother came to see you for the first time scene you moved here.
You never said your feelings on her but Steve thinks it would be anger now. Your mother was beautiful looked a lot like you which broke his heart even more. Yet she left you with Neil which if she maybe just hadn’t you’d be alive right now.
The worst of all was he still saw you. The funeral you and Billy had been sitting with Max as she cried. He saw you with Billy never alone. A constant reminder as to why he blamed himself.
Then it seemed everyone but him and Max moved on. Dustin was friends with Eddie Muson who now everyone thinks is a murder. Which at first he thought the same, but Vacna or whatever had been killing people. Which now he’s trying to get Max.
“Max please just listen to me.” I say as put batteries in the walker.
“Steve I don’t need you.” She grabs the walker and walks off.
“Max I need to do it for us.” I stand in front of her way.
“I can do it myself!” Max had problems with anger just like Billy. So did Steve but your problem was not caring about death. Not caring what happened to you as long as everyone else was happy. Some sad twisted joke life had on them.
“Max just let me-!” Suddenly I wasn’t in the house. I was at the mall with you.
“Y/n!” I run to her and hug her.
“I fell hard in your arms that night, it was nice. I died in your arms that night. I slipped through into the afterlife, It was nice. White light in your arms that night. I lost sight in your arms that night, It was nice.” She says and breaks the hug.
“Wasn’t so nice for me.” I say angry.
“Hey, you, don't you think it's kinda cute? That I died right inside your arms that night.” Y/n says.
“Y/n I know this isn’t you but I can’t live without you.”
“Really? Because I cried in the afterlife. I cried hard because I have died and you're alive! I tried to escaped the afterlife, I tried hard to get back inside your arms alive.” As she yelled she become bigger and more demonic.
“I don’t want to die with you upset at me. Please?”
“That I fell hard in your arms. I went and died in your arms that night. I fell in your arms tonight. Suicide in your arms.”
“I’m sorry.”
“That I'm fine even after I have died because it was in your arms I died.” Suddenly I’m back home. With everyone screaming as tears stream down my face.
“No- no- no.” I mumble over and over.
“Harrington no what?” Eddie asks.
“FUCK!” I throw a vase at a wall and everyone jumps back.
“You saw her, didn’t you?” I fall down the wall and hug myself and rock. I sob and sob till I feel a hand.
“It was nice.” I look up to see her and whimper.
“Stop it!” I yell at her.
“Steve? Who are you talking too?” Dustin asks.
“STOP TORTURING ME! STOP IT!” Max then hug him as I watch. Billy holding me with a sigh.
“I hate this.” I mumble out.
“I know.” He says.
“I can’t help him. I can’t hold him. I can’t kiss him.” I start to cry.
“Shh.” He says as he rubs back.
“Billy I can’t do this anymore.”
“Hey. Look at me.” I take my faces off his shoulder and look at him.
“We’re gonna make it through this, together. Just like we’ve always said. We’ll move to Cali when your ready. We can go ghost surfing or something. Steve and Max are going to be okay, it takes time.”
“Their just turning into us Billy. Steve doesn’t care about himself and Max has all this anger.”
“It takes time.”
“How much time Billy? Because we died because of it!”
“N/n I don’t know but just trust me on it.” He holds me as I sob with Steve.
“Steve I’m sorry.” Max says after hours of me sobbing and yelling.
“It’s my fault. If I didn’t tell her back then.”
“I think about it everyday but Y/n and Billy were so close. I don’t think she would live without him.” She says leaning into me.
“How do you do it?” I ask after a pause of silence.
“Do what?”
“Not cry everyday.”
“I like to think there in heaven surfing on a big beach. They’re probably just alone but are so happy. They can be free now. Free from Neil, free from this place, free from the monsters. But I know y/n sad, she misses us. She probably watches you and feels so bad. Bad that she caused this pain, bad that she couldn’t have been stronger, bad that she broke the person’s heart that healed her own. Though Billy’s with her, cheering her up. Telling her it takes time and he’ll be better soon.” She’s says as sits up.
“When we were at the funeral. I saw them, together. They had sat down with you, hugging you and I keep seeing them. I don’t know which ones are real or fake or even if I’m going crazy.”
“Do you see them now?” I look at Steve at the small sliver of hope.
“No.” I shred a tear and whimper as I fall into Billy’s arms.
It’s short but mm I kinda like it.
