how do you deal with imposter syndrome?
honestly i struggled with this all of last year, but now i’ve reframed and broken it into a few different parts: part one: self-compassion. when’s the last time you were kind to yourself on your creating abilities? A LOT of people figure it out as they go along, make it up, and/or fake it more than you realize— being lost is so universally in all of us. and being “found” has literally millions of different answers and not the same for any of us so comparing is a cheap shot to do to yourself. show up for yourself in more productive ways + trust your intuition + put that energy into discipline + paying attention to the present.
this is a fantastic huberman episode featuring rick rubin about accessing your creativity: x. i highly recommend giving it a listen.
part two: manage expectations. don’t bite off more than you can chew. being overly ambitious in the name of productivity sets you up for failure. don’t overwork yourself, don’t push yourself, don’t hustle culture this and neglect rest. if you’re struggling, take a break. some ideas grow roots instantly, some take more time to grow roots— if you rush one that needs time, you’re limiting yourself in what you create.
part three: storytelling is an art. and you are the only one who can tell a story in the way you tell it because your perceptions, your observations, your emotions tied to each detail are all distinct to you. if you truly believe in what you are creating is done intentionally with love + passion, why would you not want to give it a chance?
