It’s a brave new world.

In some cases the reference potential is considered to be that of the surface of the earth, and the reference node is called "ground" or "earth" as a consequence.” ref. Wikipedia

When the Y2K bug hit, reality broke instead of computers. A link formed through the internet, no one noticed for years. 

We thought something would reach out to us from the depths of space.

No one expected it’d come from our gateway modems.

Anytime something shifted and dislocated from our set timeline, the fabric of space tried to correct it as best it could. But you can’t make a shattered mirror whole again. Anomalies kept occurring, reality kept on breaking. It kept trying to fix itself.

This sideblog is dedicated to the original story currently in development by me, Shy!  I mostly reblog content from my main over here, so this page is purely focused on VG content only for easy viewing and categorization. Most of of this is original writing and visdev, with the occasional relevant inspiration post or otherwise. 

Themes you’ll find here are: parallel/alternate universes, doppelgängers, Y2K bug horror, inexplicable materialisation of flesh inside technology, the internet as an eldritch monstrosity, and questionable ethics.

At its core its a supernatural (sci-fi flavored) buddy cop between two very different people who do not get along, trying to stop something very awful from taking over their world that’s bleeding through the internet. 

Some inspirational media that you might enjoy, that forms the DNA of Virtual Ground are: The Signal by Chilling Abyss, The X Files, Supernatural, Hotline Miami, Videodrome, The Morris Internet Worm, and Simon Stålenhag’s flesh technology series. 

This is a mature story aimed at adults. I’m not going to get too specific on content warnings, so just. Yknow. Dead dove, do not eat. Body horror, blood and gore, murder, violence, and more. It gets messy and I don’t want to shy away from that.
