Here’s an african flower granny square bag I made a while back. I used WeCrochet dishie yarn in black & brava worsted yarn in white. It’s being used as a yarn bag. Let me know what you think. 😁
Double WIPs on this Wednesday as I wait for the yarn that said it was supposed to be delivered today by 3 and at 3 changed to say it would be delivered by Monday at noon. Wouldn’t be as frustrating if that project wasn’t the only one with a deadline. Yarntasmo is complete! I finished him up this morning!
Details and notes:
This was not an easy make, but I'm happy with the results. There are some things I'd do differently, but overall, it was fine in the end.
I used faux leather for his elbow pads and the gear details. I think, if I were to do this again, I'd just hand sew the leather on instead of fucking with the fabric glue. The hair was a pain in the ass, and I learned so much from doing it.
Pattern: I used the Alien Ragdoll as my base for the body. It's from More Dreams Less Life Crochet. I modified the pattern to be a bit shorter and better looking. In hindsight, I should have brought the pants up taller or made the torso shorter. Oh well.
The vest was free-handed by myself. I just made a rectangle with armholes. Not much to do there, just some free-hand crochet.
I used Lion Brand Basic Stitch/Skein Tones for everything except the vest. I used Brava Worsted in Black from WeCrochet for that. The white yarn is just scrap yarn, and I could not tell you what brand it is lmao
No. I'm not making more of these. This sucked lmao
There's a little extra room in the cups, but overall, I think I nailed it.
The trick to sizing up the bottoms is to add all the extra inches you need on the back. Just make the front according to pattern and subtract that from your hip measurement. Then, add however many extra inches you need to fit the back, and figure out a good increase layout and off you go!
You'll need size #3 thread (I used WeCrochet Curio) and a 3.25mm hook. Pattern is here (or you can message me).
Also, enjoy this very low effort very pin up shot:

The pattern is the Patty Cake Cardi from WeCrochet.
The sweater always turns out lovely, and you can really see the ombre effect of the yarn on this one, and I’m really pleased that I managed to make the sleeves the same color without cutting the yarn.
However, I feel like every time I make this pattern I make it the size that I think it needs to be and then it turns out humongous. I think this was supposed to be the newborn to three months size, but it is looking kind of big…
It does look nice with the little purple hat, though. now I just need to finish the last border round on the blankie, and then I can give this to my coworker, hopefully on Monday.
hi I'm wondering where you source your wools from? If you know anyone who spins their own And sells it that would be great. Cheers :)
For dying yarn I mostly get base yarns from WeCrochet or KnitPicks, but have also used some of Webs' Valley yarns.
Most of what I have for loose wool for spinning I was gifted a subscription for a year or so from Paradise Fibers. I have bought some undyed wool from Knit Picks, I think, and played around with dying bits of that.
I haven't looked too deep into who spins and sells so I don't have anyone to recommend, sadly :(
fuck it if I'm coming back to tumblr might as well blog as god intended so here's some pics from my recent crochet adventures
I successfully made a turtle amigurumi after some few weeks of cursing over the existence of magic rings, and now I'm working on making a monkey one (my grandma's fave animal). I absolutely learned my lesson about using cheap acrylic yarn though bc the turtle ended up drying the hell out of my skin on my fingers during the process of making it, so I switched to wecrochet's comfy worsted yarn which is 75% pima cotton and 25% acrylic. It's a bit more expensive, but SOOOO much nicer to work with and it should hold up just fine in the wash. I decided to go w the colors "thicket" and "parchment" for the monkey cuz there's a lighter and darker brown used in the pattern!
(both patterns are from crochet cute critters by sarah zimmerman!)
