equipment manager social media team all well and good but what i'm really fascinated by is the more bureaucratic stuff that goes into running a hockey team. i wanna know about the person who books the hotels. who helps you figure out your driver's license when you're from finland living in dallas 9 months out of the year. i need to speak to the person in charge of the visas.....

"would you still love me if i was a worm" overdone overplayed incorrect buzzer noise. "if i were covertly jerking off in our shared hotel room after the game would you lay really still so i didn't know you were awake and you could listen to me and then try really hard not to think about what that means later or would you put a pillow over your head and go to sleep" Now we are fucking talking....

I’m sorry… Steve almost getting thrown out of a window??? I need to know more
I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME REMEMBER WHERE THIS IS FROM (i think maybe darren mccarty's book? C will probably know) BUT. apparently one time in the 90s the wings were on a road trip and there was a little wrestling match in someone's room and steve thee yzerman very nearly got pushed out of a several stories high window because someone went a little too hard 😭 dudes ROCK!!!

Was an assistant coach on a women’s hs hockey team, had to tell 2 girls who were dating to stop making out and giving eachother hickies at the back of the bus. Also had to tell them to stop giving a 3rd girl hickies at the same time…
i can't tell if love wins or loses in this situation but love is CERTAINLY doing something. obsessed

one more from logistics anon, lol the stereotypes about women's college teams especially hockey and rugby are so true, lots of young women in a non-comphet setting for the first time in their lives, lots of experimentation. i went to college with someone in the pwhl and her love life was crazyyyy
one thing I don't get tho is do nhl players not share hotel rooms on the road anymore? in the old days it was a big part of their dynamics like sid and colby armstrong were road roomies and that was talked about like a big bonding thing esp between younger guys. but i feel like in fic and behind the scenes stuff these days it's not mentioned that guys are sharing rooms, did that go away with a newer cba or something? i'd be interested too if anyone knows!
this is warming my heart... i love you baby gay college athletes.... forever and ever...
and YES i do know this one actually!!! i'm not sure when exactly it happened but i know that now it's really only rookies who share rooms on the road, which, honestly, very sad to me!! there's still a lot to work with wrt being rookies who are also road roomies and that dynamic your first year and then what happens when you're like, not roomies anymore but also. so much is lost!!! so many iconic (to me) behind the scenes nhl stories (and some of my absolute favorite concepts to rotate fic-wise) revolve around guys being roommates on the road. i'm sure it's nice for them to room alone but also what about MY feelings!! what about what i want!!!

Wasn't in charge of room booking but was an assistant captain my jr year and field captain my sr year (actual captain tore her ACL <- rest in power queen) and it is such behind the scene acrobatics to keep track of whos sleeping with who. The number of meeting we had to have that were like: so, the freshmen are all fucking again or please don't hook up with players on the other team before a game/tournament . It was Women's rugby tho so I am aware of the stereotypes
god this is perfect... like genuinely everything i want to be happening IS happening, apparently, somewhere in the world, and that is so beautiful..... women's rugby is such a slay im obsessed also

lol same person as visa anon, i did the hotel bookings for my NCAA team (as volunteer/unpaid labor btw, there is SO much of that in women's sports even at the adult/semi-pro level). not much juicy info but you get group rates and the teams are all returning to the same cities every year so they probably have one or two hotels they usually book every time. i would imagine they do it pretty far in advance as soon as the schedule comes out. same with the bus services, they probably have vendors they stick with year to year. oh and also because i was on a women's team in college there was LOTS of hookups within the team and we had a chart where we tried to track who was dating or had hooked up before so those girls didn't share rooms 🤭
THISSSSSSS IS THE KIND OF INFORMATION IM LOOKING FOR THIS IS THE JACKPOT THANK YOU ‼️‼️‼️‼️ meddling travel coordinator fic When.....

this article from last year about the giants (sorry, not hockey) gives some really interesting insight into what happens bts when a new player is called up!! it’s probably similar across leagues but i agree it’s fascinating and i’d like to hear more from the people who do this kind of work ! https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/mlb/san-francisco-giants/luis-matos-casey-schmitt-impact-staff/1636415/
YESSS THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! i'm sure the process is fairly similar across sports and honestly it's just fascinating for sports in general!! real unfilled niche here for this kind of reporting imo the athletic needs to get on this grind

friend of mine does visa work for a company (not an NHL team) and it's pretty boring lol it's like a specialization of HR you just get good at knowing the relevant paperwork needed based on the country of origin of the person the company/team wants to hire. the team would be the employer sponsoring the player's visa. for jobs like athlete/performer/actor there are visas based on being recognized as a special talent in your field. it's similar to how singers can tour the world and make money in other countries because there's only one taylor swift, for example. i think when beauvilier got traded from the canucks to the hawks his visa needed a few days to process and he was able to play their away games in canada but not yet their games in the states. it was very brief though, seems like the teams have this thing down to a science and can also probably pay to expedite processing
THIS IS FASCINATING TO ME THO!!! it's one of those things where like, this isn't part of my regular world at all so i'm always interested in the minutiae of the behind the scenes stuff. does anyone have a friend who books the hotels for an nhl team
