Secret Santa 2021
Hey hey hey guess what @magikchicken I’m your secret santa this year! I hope your Christmas is a good one and I hope this story helps add just a touch more cheer to the holiday!
Beep beep beep beep
“Mmm...five more minutes…” a voice groaned groggily as they rolled over in their bed, pulling the covers over their face.
The beeping continued, forcing the young man to toss and turn and put his hands over his ear to drown out the noise in a desperate attempt for more rest. But as time pressed on he just couldn’t take it anymore and sat upright, glaring at the alarm clock in subtle frustration before turning it off with a sigh. With a long yawn and stretch, he pulled himself away from his bed as he got started on his morning routine. Once finished, he was headed out the door and down the hall when he heard a voice call him from behind.
“Hey, Xavier, wait up!”
As Xavier looked back a smile curved on his lips as he saw none other than Guy jogging in his direction. He had a big goofy grin on his face as he waved him down to stop from going any further.
“I’m surprised to see you up so early.”
“Hey!” Guy laughed “Same can be said to you too. Besides, I could barely sleep a wink last night. I was itching to see you.”
Xavier could feel his cheeks grow warm. “Are you telling me you got no sleep at all? Guy I wish you-”
“Ah-ah before you give me a lecture, I have an incredibly good reason for it. Besides I *did* get some sleep, just…not too much.” Guy chuckled as he rubbed the back of his head.
“I just hope that lack of sleep doesn’t earn you another detention from Schuyler.”
“I feel like he’d give me one anyways, whether I did my best or not.” Guy laughed once more but this time he took Xavier’s hand as he did so. “But he may reconsider all that since I made the team.”
“Team?”
Guy smirked as he gave Xavier’s hand a soft squeeze. “Yeah that was the news I was wanting to tell you. I made the Ladilz team!”
“But weren’t you already part of the team?” Xavier asked curiously.
“Sure, the one for here in Gedonelune, but this is the competitive one. I guess word of Ladilz caught wind and now other schools and places have even set up teams and there’s going to be a competition between Queensblade and even Solomon where the finals will be held. It’s not super big yet, but can you imagine it? Gedonelune standing there above all the rest and bringing that trophy home?”
Xavier could see the sparkle in Guy’s eyes as he went on excitedly. With a smile he gave Guy’s hand a squeeze. “I’m so happy to hear it, I know that you’ll do great, whether you win or not.”
“Hah, those guys don’t stand a chance with me on the team.” Guy grinned.
“Someone’s feeling cocky now.”
“Hey, I’m not being cocky. I’m just stating the facts.”
Xavier rolled his eyes with a big smile. “Suuure, keep telling yourself that.”
“Hey what’s that supposed to mean?” Guy asked curiously.
With a smirk Xavier let go of his hand and started running out of the dorm “figure that out yourself!”
“H-Hey! Get back here!” Guy shouted while he too began to run in hot pursuit of Xavier.
Guy had soon caught up to Xavier in no time. The two of them engaged in small chatter and laughs along the way as they headed to their classes. Much to their delight and surprise, this year’s winter break would be held earlier than usual and as a result classes were cut short; by half to be precise.
For the remainder of the day, Xavier and Guy talked about how they’d be spending the break, it wasn’t until Xavier brought up spending Christmas together that Guy went silent, even going so far as to stop in his tracks. Xavier quickly noticed and looked back at Guy with a slightly worried look.
“Hey, are you alright? You were fine just a second ago, did I say something wrong?”
“Listen, Xavier…about Christmas…I wanted-”
“Guy?!”
Another voice interrupted the conversation. It belonged to Liam, a classmate and Ladilz teammate that Guy was friends with. He looked like he was out of breath, almost as if he had just ran a whole marathon without taking a single break.
“Liam? Something wrong?”
“Coach has been looking everywhere for you, well I suppose it’s not just you, but you’re at the top of his list of people we gotta find.”
“Doesn’t he know classes were dismissed early today.”
“Well you know him, he’s pretty forgetful or he just didn’t get the memo. Regardless, we need you Guy. We’re going to be doing some last minute heavy practice and we can’t do it without you.”
“Right…” Guy gave Liam a slight nod before turning back to look at Xavier. His hands reached out to rest on his shoulders as he gave a smile. “Listen, we’ll talk about this later over dinner at the dining hall in the dorms okay?”
“Guy, wait-”
Xavier reached out to Guy as he pulled away and jogged alongside Lia to the training field. Overcome with confusion and questions, Xavier composed himself and started jogging in their direction. He had intentions to head back to the dorms and relax with his new free time. But for some reason, something in the back of his mind was telling him he needed to follow and be there for his boyfriend.
Though he wasn’t allowed in there, due to the strict orders of the coach, Xavier took a spot right against the fence. From here he could see everything and coming out from left field he could see Guy running and dodging everyone with ease. E may tease Guy from time to time about being cocky, but when it did come down to it, Guy truly was a gifted player. His speed and agility were unmatched by any of his other teammates and he continued to score points for his practice team time and time again. There was no doubt that with Guy on the team, they had a real shot to have the honour of being called Ladilz champions.
The game was getting intense and Xavier watched on with passion. Silently cheering and throwing his fist in the air from time to time as he cheered for Guy. But in the blink of an eye his cheering soon turned to cries when he heard a loud crack and Guy screaming for help. Without even thinking, Xavier leaped over the fence and rushed to Guy's side; a horrible scene unfolding when he realized there were red blotches staining the grass.
“B…blood?”
Xavier hadn’t noticed it right away and only now when more people hurried over did he notice the horrible sight of Guy’s leg. He could hear the coach screaming the name of two other people to take Guy to the infirmary. There was a ringing in his ears as he questioned how things took a sudden turn for the worse. That’s when he overheard someone talking to guy.
“I’m so sorry man, I didn’t realize how much force I put into it.”
Guy’s voice was shaky and strained but he managed to utter a few words. “Hah…don’t worry about it, this kind of thing is expected right..? I’ll be better in no time, just watch.”
Xavier hurried after him and walked by his side, reassuring him, only to be stopped by Schuyler who ordered everyone else to head back to the dorms and await any news. Xavier obliged, even though he wished he could do otherwise. Now all he could do was wait and see.
Wait and see is exactly what he did for the net two hours before he finally got word from the man from earlier; Liam. Liam had managed to track down Xavier and give him the news, telling him that Guy was going to be fine. Although it was late, Xavier managed to get permission from Schuyler to visit Guy at the infirmary where he listened in on a heated conversation between the nurse and the coach.
“Now don’t keep telling me that same crap, Hyacinth.”
“Last I checked we are not on a first name basis Mr. Landon. So be a dear and address me as Miss Ainsley.” nurse Ainsley gave a huff as she was putting a way clean bedsheets. “As for your constant asking, let me repeat myself again; there’s no way this young man will be able to play any of your silly little games.”
“Give me a good reason then, I’m all ears.”
“Either you’re plain dumb or downright ignorant.” Miss Ainsley shot a glare in his direction. “Headmaster Schuyler and I worked tirelessly on this young man. We’ve healed him to the best of our ability with magic but his bones still need to heal or there’s a chance he will end up in the same predicament again. There’s no need to put him at risk for some silly game!”
“But that’s merely a chance and this is our chance, a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
“Oh please, stop being so dramatic, there will be plenty more chances for your guys to compete. Your team is made up of very capable and eager young men who I know can make it far in this tournament you keep speaking of. So put an end to your foolish talk of sending this boy back on the field, or I’ll remove you from the premises myself and believe me, you don’t want that to happen.” Miss Ainsely’s piercing glare managed to send shivers down Xavier’s spine even though he wasn’t even in the room.
It seemed that even coach Landon knew that she was dead serious and with an aggravated shout he stormed out of the room.
“Dear, is something wrong with you?”
Xavier looked over at the once heated nurse, who now wore a smile.
“Oh, no, nothing is wrong with me. I actually came to visit someone.”
“Ohh.” A chuckle came from her mouth. “You must be the one that the young man was asking about.”
“He was asking about me?”
“Well of course. Goodness me he seemed more concerned over you than was himself.”
Xavier blushed. “Is it alright if I see him then?”
“He’s on the third door to your left.” Ainsley replied.
With an appreciative nod, Xavier followed the instructions, stopping in front of the third door on his left. His hand gently turned the knob and as the door creaked open he saw Guy laying down on his bed. He was staring out the open window, a cool breeze coming through caused the curtains to sway while Guy let out a sigh.
“Glad to see you’re awake.”
Turning his attention to Xavier, Guy smiled. “I was wondering when you’d show up.”
Shutting the door behind him, Xavier moved closer and sat on the edge of the bed. “You know you really gave me a fright today. Running off earlier and then getting injured.”
“Hah…well you know me.” Guy joked. “I keep running into trouble whether I like it or not. Speaking of trouble though…seems I’ve given my team quite a great deal of it huh?”
“Well the coach sure thinks so, but your teammates sure don’t. When Liam came to get me, he told me that everyone on the team is going to fight with everything they got and with the same spirit that you have.” Xavier chuckled before continuing. “They said they’re going to win and go to the finals and bring home the trophy and honour for you. “
“Is that so?” Guy leaned back against his pillows with a smile. “That’s a huge relief actually. I was worried I was going to be causing chaos. Although..speaking of which, I guess I still have.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well I guess now is a good time as ever to tell you what I wanted to say earlier, but got pulled away.”
“Oh, right.”
“See, initially I wasn’t going to be able to be here for Christmas. We were going to be playing the day after Christmas, but would have stayed in Queensblade for about three days. Just to get some practice in. Coach said it would give us a chance to experience the playing field we’d be on and maybe even see what kinds of tricks or tactics Queensblade had up their sleeve.”
“So that’s why you reacted the way you did.”
“Yeah. I wasn’t sure how to tell you since you were so excited to celebrate Christmas together. But now the same situation is happening. I have to stay here in the infirmary for about a week to make sure everything is healing the way it should be. But with Christmas in a few days, I won’t be able to travel or do much of anything.”
Xavier chuckled. “Just because you can’t leave doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate. I’m sure nurse Ainsley will let me come and stay with you.”
“But what about-”
“Don’t worry about that. Besides, there’s plenty of other chances for travel in the future.”
With a smile, Guy reached over and gently to Xavier’s hand, giving it a soft squeeze. In response, Xavier slowly leaned in, his lips were just a mere inch from touching Guy’s when there was a knock at the door, followed by the sound of it opening as miss Ainsley spoke.
“Sorry to interrupt you two, but it’s getting quite late and I do believe a patient of mine will be needing so much needed sleep after the day he’s had.”
“Oh…” Looking up at the clock, Xavier took note that it was well past ten. “Guess time really flew by, huh?” Just as he was removing himself from the bed, Guys spoke up.
“Hey, I’ll write you a magic note when I wake up, alright?”
“Alright.” Xavier smiled before turning his attention to the nurse. “Is there a certain limit on how long I can stay with him tomorrow?”
Ainsley chuckled as she led Xavier out of the room, shutting the door behind them. “There’s no time limit. Today is an exception because of how recent the injuries are. A little bit of rest will do him good and ten tomorrow he’s all yours.”
“Oh…one more thing…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few days later on Christmas day, while Guy was still fast asleep, Xavier had snuck in quietly, setting down a few messily wrapped boxes down by a small tree adorned with lights and tinsel. Xavier managed to slip in and out of the room quietly, bringing in food and drinks and setting them on the nearby table. As he continued to bring things together, he was startled to hear Guy yawning.
“My my aren’t you here early? I didn’t even get a chance to send you a note.” Guy said tiredly.
“Well I couldn’t help myself. After all today is special.”
“It is? What do you-”
Guy stopped mid-sentence, his eyes blinking a few times as he stared in awe while throwing the covers off of him and grabbing his nearby crutches. He then turned to Xavier and gestured to what stood before him, which only drew out a laugh.
“Did…did you do this or am I seeing things?”
“Well you are seeing it aren’t you?” Xavier laughed. “But yes, I did do this. Though I think I’m intrigued with how you managed to sleep through all of it.”
With a roll of his eyes, Guy steadied himself with his crutches before moving over to Xavier’s direction. An enticing aroma filled the air where delicious looking food sat on the nearby table and Guy could already feel his mouth watering.
“That’s just the beginning. Wait until you see the dinner I helped whip up.” Xavier said proudly while pulling out a chair for Guy to sit down.
“Thank you. Maaan I can’t wait to dig in. Hm…what should I try first?”
“I have an idea.” Xavier said with a smirk as he motioned with his eyes for Guy to look up above the table where a mistletoe was hanging.
“You little sneak…”
Leaning down, Xavier captured Guy’s lips with his, his thumb parting their lips as they pressed their foreheads together before enacting another soft and passion filled kiss. Their hands began roaming each other’s body and they realized that if they didn’t stop now, then it could lead to an awkward situation considering nurse Ainsley was right outside. As they pulled away, Guy noticed something out of the corner of his eye.
“Is that…snow?”
“Oh…”
“Wait, how is it snowing? I thought the weather was controlled through magic.”
“Oh it is.”
“Okay, good to know I wasn’t crazy.” Guy joked. “I wonder what or who gave Schuyler the idea to make it snow here.”
“Hah…about that..” Xavier rubbed the back of his head. “He doesn’t actually know.”
“What?!”
“Funny story though, I managed to trick Schuyler into putting the weather barrier down. He’s probably fuming right now or will be when he realizes.” Xavier laughed.
“How in the world did you manage something like that?”
“How about we discuss it over breakfast?” Xavier asked with a smile as he took his place at the table.
“Fine. But you have to tell me. I need to hear all the details.”
Xavier laughed as he began digging into his food. “So it starts out like this right? So Schuyler….”
As Xavier explained his crazy scheme, Guy listened with a big smile on his face. The two of them laughed, talked, joked and spent time together watching the snow fall outside, making the place look a little more like a winter wonderland by the minute. Though this wasn’t the Christmas they had hoped and planned for, it was something they managed to to enjoy and love every second of.
As the hours passed by and the snow continued to fall unbeknownst to Schuyler. The two spent the rest of the day in a more intimate and loving fashion. The curtains to Guy's room were closed and so was the chapter of this year’s Christmas. A special time and moment for the two lovebirds.
