What’s the last show you saw?

I don’t get out too often these days - I generally have no one to go with. However, I did see The Altons play some sweet, sweet soul at the Levitt Shell in July.

You still alive?

I am. I was going hard there for a moment but life has a way of changing your priorities. Like a lot of people, the world really shook me when Trump was elected president and, as if to further that confusion and panic, there was a bit of local ugliness that seemed like an echo of the darkness playing out at the national level. What I thought was, wasn’t and I retreated from shattered illusions, limping and hurt. Some heartbreak, some location changing (around the Memphis area, not out of it), some soul mending, some love finding, some house buying later and getting out to those shows has just fallen away as being less important. It takes a lot more time to turn a house into a home than I thought, at least for a guy like me that feels the need to taint everything in the general vicinity with personal aesthetic, and that’s what I’m plugging away at. One day I’ll get to the point where the long lists of things to do around here dwindles down to the less important tasks, the ones I don’t feel guilty about not doing when I do something else with my time. I’d like to think that when I get there, I’ll return to the thick of things at some late night dive bar, or at very least, on the outskirts of the crowd, back to the live music and shenanigans I enjoy so much. Memphis has always been a multi generational scene so I know there will be a place there for me when I want to take it. If you see me, buy me a beer.
