Welcome to Pack to Basics™ Socialization Quarantine style. Over the last few months we've continued to run Super Dog Maintenance Class as well as Pack to Basics Socialization very successfully. Being quarantined is just as hard for dogs as it is for us; they need to get out and about, play with their friends, keep up their social skills and practice their obedience so they don't get too rusty. There is plenty of room for everyone to social distance themselves, wear a mask if you can, don't wear one if you can't, stay 10 feet from others if you'd like, we work to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. Here you see just a short clip Debi Hull grabbed towards the end of another successful social. Fearful dogs are overcoming their fears. Reactive dogs are learning that they are safe. And hey, there is an intact Han Solo - off leash - with a very in-heat Taya! What a good boy he is. He says that she's not supposed to be his girlfriend and he will wait until he has his own little lady to create a litter of perfect service dog prospects. ;) . . Please meet my friend River and her mom Jessy. River used to LOVE other dogs, that is, until irresponsible people let their untrained dogs off leash and attacked her while she was on leash with her mom. (All too common and infuriating.) . Now River is fearful and reactive and her mom hasn’t been able to get her around dogs again. . Here are photos from lesson two, which is the first time I meet the dogs in person. We began with engagement, helping River to understand that her focus on Jessy right now is her comfort. It’s her way of checking in when she needs answers from her mom. The first hands on lesson is designed to build trust with me, with her mom, and to help her feel very comfortable here on my property. . . Super 🦸🏻‍♀️Trainer Tip: In addition to engagement / focus from front position, I like to introduce it from the side as well, teach where the heel position actually is, start left leg targeting / heel, and see where that takes us. The important thing to remember is that it’s ok to change it up when you need to. You are not locked into the plan you have in your head. The last two Saturday’s I taught a “Things that go boom 💥 in the night!” class for my clients. . Kayce Cover developed this unique philosophy and method of training to which I have been certified in. The Syn Alia Training System (SATS) philosophy recognizes that all animals are capable of conscious thought and can learn to work with people through a common communication system. . We specifically covered SATS Perception Modification which is a method of changing the way an animal perceives something; most commonly to lead animals to become less reactive or less afraid, fearful, as well as teaching animals how to cope with stress and manage their emotions. . I made it to 46yo today. This is truly a miracle. I wasn’t going to, but I did. I’ve survived a lot of things that I didn’t think I would, and today I just relaxed and allowed myself to acknowledge it. . My dad drove me to visit our friends at @StrainsPerris for medicine and chat with one of the gals that works there. She and her friend with Lyme also go to @HoltorfMedicalGroup. Scored lovely @Strains.Apparel for my birthday. . Spent some time poolside with Han and Rey and my parents. BBQ, cake and mermaid 🧜🏼‍♀️ practice. ♥️ . Came home with beautiful flowers from my parents and @ViolaBalou. Thank you so much! They are beautiful! Also had a package on my door step. It appears I had bought myself a birthday present and forgot about it. Check out my new Millennium Falcon leash hook! . And that there is my first and only Covid19 Quarantine Pandemic Birthday party. Did you know that I’m a Pet First Aid and CPCR Instructor taught by the amazing @PetSafetyCrusader, Denise Fleck? I am! ..... So when Nola started flapping her ears and developed a small hematoma I knew exactly how to slather it in Arnica Cream flip her ear on top of her head, use non-stick pads to support it, and vet wrap it all up.
