TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 106, Replies Part 2
1) “Looks like something out of fucking silent hill, this is way beyond what I’d expect
I thought it be more like a wolf or cheetah, but now, we’re all in with the cockroach approach”- I’d have said more Resident Evil Licker personally. 2) “Now it’s not the time Koichi, also don’t throw stones from this glass house you live in”- Hey, can’t blame the guy, it’s not like he’s ever actually seen how he looks whilst crawling around on the ground before. 3) “Oh I don’t think those weak things are gonna do much to damage him. I don’t think they’ll even faze him long enough to be a distraction
he’s pissed enough that you could shot him in the head and he wouldn’t stop chasing you”- Doesn’t help that they’re also the slower softball shots, when Koichi actually needs something like the rifle blast to stun or phase Nomura meaningfully – hell, we’ve seen that he can shrug off bullets to the body with the way he can reshape his form, shooting him with the deadly attack really is Koichi’s best option, but sadly he’s not gotten it through his head yet that it’s ok to kill a guy if he’s rejecting his own humanity. 4) “No surprises there, your stance is perfect for quick dodges, your center of gravity is low, your profile is smaller, sidestepping is a breeze with a speed quirk
doesn’t change the fact that looks creepy as shit”- Koichi’s finally experiencing what everybody else has when “fighting” against him, although Nomura’s adoption of his own fighting style is understandably more aggressive and horror-movie monster like. 5) “Are you trying to teleport behind him like it’s nothing personal? Seriously? How many times did you try that already McBee? How many more times you’re gonna try that before you realize that doesn’t work?”- He really thinks the limb restriction on Koichi using his power is the thing to exploit to take him down, and in theory it should be…if not for the fact that Koichi’s been underselling the full potential of his Quirk’s functions from his anti-fighting method this whole time. 6) “Yeah but he can fucking fly and maneuver in midair, you know that
McBee, do you suffer from some form of short term memory loss? Because that happened less than two chapters ago you’re making Dory embarrassed”- In Koichi’s current position, his attempt to fly would have only pushed himself backwards into Nomura’s fist faster, and Nomura was confident he could land a direct hit before Koichi realised he’s moved into his blind spot…except, with the full scope of Koichi’s power revealed, it doesn’t matter. 7) “I’m just as shocked as you McBee
what the fuck was that
like
what
the fuck”- Koichi can emit the repulsion force from anywhere on his body, not just his limbs. He finds it easier to use them this way, especially for aiming and flying, but the repulsion force was always something that he cold emit anywhere from himself. It was even alluded to back when Koichi first showcased his ability to fly as a baby- if it was so hard for him to aim and fly by emitting the repulsion from his limbs like a jet engine, there’s no way he’d be so stable crawling through the air.
Tumblr media
Sure, we see the circles that indicate he was using it from his limbs there, but it makes more sense for Koichi to have been emitting the repulsion from his whole body at once to stabilise himself all over, “crawling” atop the resistance against the ground to gain elevation. He learned to pinpoint and focus it more on his limbs, but in a moment of crises, he can apply that same pinpoint accuracy all over himself. This also means he doesn’t need to aim and fire with his hands or feet, he can shoot those bullets from anywhere on his body. Koichi is the gun. 8) “Irrelevant, he’s gonna block it again
because now apparently he can generate repulsion fields from his back as well???
What”-And now we see the full scope of Koichi’s power. It was noted before that Koichi’s Quirk would have been a benefit if it’d been added to the powerset of OFA. Here we get the full idea of how; it’s literally the missing invulnerability/damage-negating shield that is Izuku and All Might’s only real weakness, the one thing that stops them from being able to pull stunts like Superman and tank bullets or attacks without moving an inch. Giving the invulnerability to someone like Koichi, who lacks the intent to fight, means he’s still a serous threat in the battlefield, because no matter what you hit him with or where, he’ll always get back up and continue to harass you. Granted, it’s countered by his lack of strength or force, but if Izuku had this power backing him up, he’d be able to go toe-to-toe with Tomura no matter how overwhelmingly strong he is.
(Vigilantes ch 51)
9) “Good ob Koichi, you’re going against a much larger foe and standing your ground, and you didn’t even needed to get a power upgrade this time. I think we’re about to hit the ceiling on the number of abilities this boy has, from now on it will be just a matter of refining and bettering them.”- Bwahahaah! Yeah, I thought that too, but Koichi’s base power Is just really flexible- hell, there’s a ton more abilities I think he might be able to refine from his unlocked powersets following this clash against his shadow copy.
(Vigilantes ch 76)
10) “Now that I think about it… This is going to be a training arc, right? Koichi improving and honing his abilities, learning his limits and pushing them further beyond, this is where we`re walking into, right?
Because two years wasn`t enough time for him to become good with his quirk, right Furuhashi?
Alright, that`s unfair, he showed that he actually improved quite a lot with his quirk since then, and again, it was not like he had a real objective like saving Pop to push him into a serious mode.
That I can understand, that in particular I consider a justifiable reason for this arc. But even so, this still doesn`t feel right… Yeah, koichi is a bit stronger now, but not as much as we`d expect after two years as a solo vigilante, nor he shows the amount of experience I`d expect, but I suppose he never was that serious about it, like the smear campaign that the author is doing against him is making us believe.”-Turns out Koichi needed to cram so much training montages and level-grinding  in, he’s even still training and learning right in the middle of the climatic fight- In fact, he’s learning even faster than he would otherwise! So many skill trees to use, so little time…. 11) “Okay McBee, now you can call bullshit and say that he’s cheating, because honestly that one was pretty cheap.”-I guess this could have been alluded to before, but Koichi’s refusal to directly participate in fights always obscured that he could do more with his power than he himself believed possible. Once again, Koichi’s greatest handicap isn’t like Izuku’s body not being able to handle his full power, it’s his lack of self-confidence handicapping his ability and the full scope of his strength.
12) “No I think that’s a pretty big damn issue here, because what the fuck dude
That’s like if Shigaraki or Uraraka suddenly managed to activate their quirks by touching any part of their body rather than only the top of their fingers. That’s where the quirk factor is, it’s not a matter of not pushing hard enough, it is the equivalent of trying to hear with your eyes”- Honestly, if they develop themselves enough and push their power to the limit, I do believe they could eventually achieve something like that. Tomura’s already exceeded his “five finger limit” before against Re Destro, it’s not a stretch to imagine he could eventually push the Quirk’s effect to active from his toes or even from touching his body at all – though thankfully, the power he already wields means he’s disinclined to push himself that far with his Quirk when he already has what he needs to destroy everything that oppresses him.
13) “Now you’re worried about that? Even though he was doing so for the last few chapters? The answer to that is simple: he’s faster, simple as that.”-  The Overclock speed Quirk was the thing that Nomura based his whole identity and reason to exist around, carving out a place and a world for himself where only he had the freedom to pick and choose what would happen. Koichi reacting to that is intruding on his private domain, and in turn undermining Nomura’s sense of self-worth in himself, which was already unstable from his mentor rejecting him to his face in favour of Koichi. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 106, Replies Part 1
1) “And the journey continues! Last time we had an All might scare- two of them in fact, also there was some less important stuff about koichi awakening his potential by realizing that he can and must win this fight.”- He’s awakening so much potential his power is practically evolving into a whole new ability before Nomura’s very frustrated eyes. 2) “…
Self-preservation is definitely not their strong suit I must say”- Look, when the kids want to play with the lit dynamite stick, you have to consider whether or not Darwin had a point, and it’s better for the species overall to let things play out. 3) “Ah dammit, and here comes the other one… Well, I suppose he do need to set up the previous mentioned nuclear bomb to get rid of McBee and all that…”- Soga really is fitting all the archtypes for “cool badass sidekick” even if it’s all undercut by the fact that’s he’s Soga, and thus can’t be that no matter how hard he tries. 4) “And I suppose this means that Soga is about to use the Bastardbike to chase after them and provide support.
Good fucking luck with catching up with the two hyper speedsters”- Seeing as Nomura needs to stay within the darkened blackout area to avoid easily drawing hero attention to his chase-fight with Koichi, there is only a limited area that can actually speed around, as opposed to the whole city being a battlefield. Therefore, it is possible for Soga to catch up, if only because the fight turns around and heads back towards him. 5) “No, let them keep throwing stones at the bipedal bombs, I want to see blood being splattered on those walls”- Your interior decorator is showing…in that you want to decorate with their interiors. 6) “Oh yeah, this is definitely gonna be a game of cat and mouse
Except that the mouse is chasing a cat he has no chance of beating”- Even more than he knew. He and we thought Nomura only needed one direct hit on Koichi to win, but it turns out even Koichi’s perceived “weakness” of projecting the repulsion from a limited area on his body doesn’t actually apply, meaning Nomura has no actual way of landing a hit, even if he succeeds in getting Koichi dead to rights, unlike himself. 7) “MY GOD MAN DID FIRES GEORG IMPRINTED YOU WITH A BIT OF HIS DNA, CAN YOU CALM DOWN WITH THE DESTRUCTION OF PUBLIC PROPERTY? WE’RE STILL TRYING TO REBUILD THAT STREET HE INCINERATED”- I have to wonder how much is Nomura intentionally missing and how much is Koichi using his finer control to bait him into making near-miss swings in the hope of his enemy exhausting himself. 8) “Oh boy… I feel that someone is gonna have to pay for this damage, and considering McBee is gonna bite the dust by the end of the story… I hope you’re ready to work for the rest of your life to pay for the repairs Koichi”-Pretty sure this is meant to be a visual shout-out to the posters for the first season of The Flash, highlighting just how fast our two bois are going at it.
Tumblr media
9) “Thank you Captain Obvious, but I think I prefer when you were a tulpa more concerned with giving bad advice.
I mean, if McBee doesn’t realized that you guys have crossed half the neighborhood then that’s on him, no need for you to point it out.”- At this point Nomura’s need for approval and self-validation through that has turned into recrimination and chastisement for allowing himself to be so baited by Koichi, which is honestly sad. The O’Clock Tulpa can’t outright disparage Nomura because he made it to give himself positive feedback, but even it has nothing really good to say about his choices here, which means that Nomura knows he’s made a joke of himself and is still continuing on with it out of stubborn pride and spite against Koichi. 10) “But why are you still thinking about All Might coming in? Koichi had the chance to leave to call for help, and he didn’t. You can believe that he came back to try to talk things over and since he couldn’t his plan changed to going after All Might, but again, HE CAN FUCKING FLY AND YOU KNOW THAT WHY WOULD HE NEED TO LURE YOU TO ALL MIGHT?”- They knew Koichi well enough (and have personally just witnessed him blow a perfect opportunity to end Nomura) that both of them are aware that Koichi running to somebody for aid is a far more likely scenario than him standing his ground at any point to take Nomura down himself, which to be fair does seem to be Koichi’s intent more or less. Avoiding actually striking back so long as he baits him into wasting precious seconds lashing out at him, even if it would be far simpler to just blast Nomura between the eyes and call it done. 11) “Yeah, but unfortunately for you, you’re not quick enough. You’ll never be quick enough.”- Can’t move faster than Koichi can sense you coming. Nomura’s bloodlust is both driving him to go faster and counter-intuitively letting Koichi know how to react to his attacks no matter how high he revs the engines. 12) “And another miss there. Yeah, see, you can’t catch him. Hell, the only reason you’re seeing him is because he wants you to, otherwise he’d zoom away so fast that your head would be left spinning”- In a straight road Nomura may have some advantages, but in these twisting streets and lots of grabble surfaces on the buildings, Koichi excels at outmanoeuvring any attack he throws his way.
13) “He doesn’t need to O'clock. McBee may be incredibly predictable, but Koichi doesn’t even care about that, he’s just moving out of the way as the punches come, no pattern recognition there, just sheer reaction.”- Izuku would analyse his tactics, but Koichi just reacts to the blows as they come using his honed senses, making him similar to Bakugou in a way. 14) “And at which point did he even looked back? He is not using visual cues to counteract you, he’s going far deeper than that. And by that I mean he feels your bloodlust and moves away from it.”- This would meant that ironically, the best means Nomura has of hitting Koichi is to not want to hit him, but that would mean having a presence of mind that wouldn’t be baited like this, meaning Nomura’s dammed if he does, dammed if he doesn’t. 15) “You know what else is an unconscious mental process that shonen mangas like to use? Detecting bloodlust.”-Koichi’s ability to react to intent to harm borders on having a muted Spider-sense, which is thematically appropriate given the Spiderman influences in Izuku’s powerset and Koichi’s wall-crawling ability. 16) “OH MY GOD IS HE GONNA START RUNNING ON ALL FOURS LIKE A CRAZY ANIMAL CHASING A PREY?!”- It both makes sense for increasing his running speed and showcases how nutty he’s getting in trying to catch up to the real fast boi on the track. 17) “Yes McBee, give in to the animal side, become a beast to be slain by the dashing hero, show us how far you’re willing to go, how much of this mask of humanity you’re wearing you you’re willing to discard to kill himI’ll be waiting… Watching…”- In trying to overcome Koichi, he’s pushing himself to become more monstrous and inhuman, which in fact showcases how  strong and powerful Koichi naturally is, that his foe has to discard parts of himself that mattered greatly to him – his pretention of being a humanistic hero – in order to match or exceed what Koichi can do…and even then, Koichi just whips out another new tactic to shut him down on instinct! @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 105, Replies Part 2
1) “okay so there’s a bit more of technicality to what he’s doing, but it is the general principle: his quirk is a shield against McBee’s McPunches.”- Nomura trained himself to always be able to go on the offensive – using Overclock to make the first move, training to unleash rapid-fire attacks and loading himself up with explosive shapeshifting matter to always be able to squirm out of danger and into a blind spot for a sneak attack. Koichi, meanwhile, has always wound up putting himself on the defensive in every situation we’ve seen due to his pacifism, and as a consequence, he’s a natural counter to Nomura’s best efforts, all without training half as hard or as long.
2) “KOICHI PLEASE WERE YOU DOING THAT SUBCONSCIOUSLY? OH MY GOD MAN”- To add insult to Injury, Koichis’ lack of control over this aspect of himself in combat inversely makes him more combat-capable- he reacts first and doesn’t hold anything back in a life-or-death moment, and that’s an instinctive response that evenly matches Nomura’s intentional super-speed. “No thoughts, head empty” means that Koichi’s matching what Nomura was “constructed” to achieve naturally, without needing half his effort or commitment.
3) “I wouldn’t call that a cheat, he’s just making use of his quirk in a new way, it doesn’t actually break any of the rules of his power, and for that I congratulate Furuhashi.”- Calls back to Tomura’s initial bratty characterisation, claiming the enemy is “cheating” when they pull out a new tactic to win, rather than accepting the fair effort put in to enable them to stand a chance at victory.
4) ““This strategy isn’t working out? Why then just do it again, but better, that will surely work” -O'Clock tulpa of advice”- There is one logical weak spot Nomura can aim for, even with Koichi’s new ability countering his explosive punches: namely that Koichi can only emit the force fields from his limbs. Sure, he’s reacting fast enough to block Nomura by instinct, but there’s only so fast you can twist your limbs to block a blow at lightspeed, and all it takes is a single hit at the wrong angle for Nomura to win
5) “Oh ho ho, my boy is not just stand there and take those punches you know? He might be dumb, but he can be cunning when he needs to, rest assured, you’re not gonna get another punch in”- One advantage Koichi has over the explosions is that Nomura probably has only so many of them possible before his body starts to give out or run out of regrowable matter to blow up, meaning that if he can dodge or block enough hits, Nomura will be too exhausted to continue the fight.
6) “On par? Bitch, he left McBee eating dust back when Fires georg was around, their speeds are on completely different levels! Koichi could probably go so fast that it might as well be a time stopping power, but he’s too humble to do so.”- The difference is best expressed in their thinking speeds. Nomura can accelerate his to observe everything around him, whereas Koichi’s natural instinct and honed control over his Quirk make him just s fast, but unable to keep up mentally, running on autopilot in the middle of their “Za Wardo” showdown. Honestly, I’m hoping Koichi manages to absorb something like Overclock from Nomura in this fight in some manner, getting a complimentary ability to is own Quirk like Izuku has developed multiple powers himself.
7) “oh yeah, he definitely is getting cranky
lol
lmao even”- Nomura is not having a good time – mostly because Koichi isn’t even really trying and he’s still out-performing him!
8) “Yeah koichi, that’s part of being a hero, the flame of heroism burns bright in your soul. It can be a bit annoying at times, but it’s part of you, and because of that, you can win this.”- In Koichi’s case, letting his body do what comes naturally actually makes him an even more effective hero, because there’s no doubts or any pesky ghost-thoughts getting in the way of him just taking down a villain. When Izuku has to channel a ton of repressed anger and frustration in his fights whilst beating the shit out of a target, Koichi turning off his higher brain functions makes it easier for him to do the same without thinking. 9) “Yeah Koichi! Own up to your identity, a hero is supposed to be annoying for the villains!
Be the pest that torments McBee, be the cockroach, be the crawler.”- Given Nomura’s trollish personality, it’s fitting that Koichi annoys the absolute hell out of him without trying to, and in so doing makes himself his greatest enemy and distraction.
10) “…But when it comes to dodging and leading villains after you, you’re the absolute best, that’s for sure.”- Now comes the question: can he dodge well enough to out-pace Nomura forever? Or will he stand his ground and fight if backed into the corner enough?
11) “You certainly are trying to milk this joke for all that it is worth, aren’t you Furuhashi?
Well, as long as you keep him the fuck away from Naruhata, you can keep it going for as long as you wish.”- The entirety of this fight is gonna be intercut with scenes showing other top heroes off doing something else rather than stepping in to help Koichi. Like Fires Georg using his Quirk to heat up tea for a quick drink.
12) “And that’s the end of the chapter, and, well, I’m actually surprised, this one was, like, fine? I mean, I didn’t had anything to actually complain this time? The nitpicky jokes I do are actually nothing major for this chapter, it’s just me being obnoxious because it’s ingrained in my soul and being, so, this chapter was actually… good?”- The fight’s finally underway and the stalling has finished. Now it’s time to enjoy the battle that’s been building up throughout this entire series. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 105, Replies Part 1
1) “So, last time Pop’s ghost came back to annoy Koichi, and then McBee McSnapped. That’s all you need to know for us to get started with Chapter 105: Pest”-Nomura is being pestered by Koichi’s existence, Koichi is being pestered by Pop’s ghost preventing him from ending Nomura’s existence.
2) “Hi my Name is McEbony McDarness McNumber Six, and I have long ebony black hair (that’s how I got part of my name) with a cool scar running down my face and cool and mysterious eyes like a dark and mysterious hero and a lot of people tell me I look like O'Clock (AN: if you don’t know who he is get da hell out of here!).”-I do believe this is a motherfucking Jojo reference. I also believe that Nomura is not pulling the posing off quite as well as he thinks he is. Bonus: it’s referencing part 2 of the saga, whose Jojo was noted for out-thinking his opponent’s moves, and now, Nomura finds himself facing an opponent whom his own lightning-quick thinking speed can’t outwit, because he doesn’t think before acting.
3) “So… Where are the other heroes? Why haven’t them run in there to assess the situation while others heroes care for the entrances?
Wait…
Wait a second- You better not be planning to bring All might here!”- Maybe the other heroes are on strike? Honestly, with the sheer number of them mobilised over in MHA to achieve a similar effect prior to the PLF raid, their absence here is pretty jarring….but at least All Might’s on the case!....in other prefectures.
4) “you’re on thin ice furuhashi, better thread carefully…
Also that’s certainly a bleak reflection of real world and internet in general: Here’s some ungodly horrifying tragedy, and now, watch this puppy sneeze on another puppy.”- I mean, they don’t know there’s a tragedy impending in the darkness, just that there’s been a massive civil disturbance in there. There’d be a lot more attention drawn if there was proof of blood around, but so far, that part of operation Anonymous is proceeding smoothly.
5) “OH THANK GOD
ALSO, HA HA FUCK YOU FURHASHI, THIS BAIT AND SWITCH WAS SPECIFICALLY TARGETED AT ME I KNOW”- There shall be no interruptions in this fated showdown! Honestly, the fact the protagonist and villain are lower-tier fighters does come with an interesting aspect to both needing to avoid the attention of powerful, top-tier fighters in their world when they have their conflicts, which is something that doesn’t apply to Izuku, what with the sheer power his opponents have (gestures vaguely to kamino ward and Jaku)
6) “And there goes a flying koichi- Don’t worry he does that, it’s enrichment being thrown around like that”- Markedly in one piece for a guy who’s supposed to have just eaten a point-blank explosion, huh?
7) “Got that one out of your system? Because you certainly didn’t managed to hurt koichi that much I must say. Even with your speed you can’t get a good hit in I suppose”- You’re more correct that you know. Nomura can out-speed Koichi’s thinking process, but with that defensive ability of his and his subconscious instinct for danger, if Koichi’s body can react quickly enough, that speed edge doesn’t matter.
8) “Oh wait, you got three punches in? And koichi is still in a single, solid piece?
My man, your power really sucks”- Or like, Koichi’s true potential is really awesome.
9) “Pfffttt- Yeah, sure. My guy, you couldn’t even kill that cop at blank range, and he didn’t even had a speed quirk, Koichi was barely scratched by that”- He’s more hurt from the fall backwards because he's unused to getting hit that hard. Note how Koichi landed better the next time Nomura threw another exploding haymaker; he’s already adapting to his enemy’s fighting style to better nullify it. 10) “Oh wait, those guys are affected by Midnight’s quirk? I thought that since they don’t have a speed quirk like McBee that AfO would at least remove the respiratory system, because honestly it’s not like they are using it anyway, but alas”- I’m not honestly sue if they are affected, or if Midnight merely thinks they are because they’re not responding anymore, Nomura’s signals being interrupted by his duel with Koichi. 11) “YES! THEY WERE FOUND!
Now McBee, can you actually fucking kill someone please? Someone with a name that is, because killing nameless extras doesn’t count”- Sometimes I can’t tell who’s more bloodthirsty for violence in this story, you or Nomura.
12) “Dammit koichi couldn’t you waited like, two more minutes? McBee’s track record is looking pretty bad, he literally can’t kill a single person”- It’s not even for a lack of trying, which just makes it all the more sadder.
13) “Gonna be honest, it doesn’t even look like the exploding punches did that much damage, it looks more like he got hurt when he ate shit face first on the floor.
Honestly McBee, I’m getting McDone with your McBullshit, can you actually do something right please?”- He’s doing his best! It’s just, y’know, his best sucks.
14) “oh, going plus ultra there? That’s cute, you really think that’s gonna save you from Koichi”- Nomura is for once too slow; Koichi’s already going Plus Ultra to defeat his attacks, even without really knowing how he’s pulling that off.
15) “Yeah McBee, I don’t want to say anything, but Koichi literally trained himself to be able to stop punches from a guy that was way tougher than you are. I’d mention his name, but unfortunately he still hasn’t come back from the convenience store.”- The punching training coming in clutch to deflect/nullify Nomura’s own deadly-force attacks is a great callback to what training Koichi did receive from Knuckle. That said, it’s a shame that Koichi’s so reedy, because he’s simply not got enough muscle mass on him to fully block the force of the explosion, getting blown backwards from it every time. If he had even minor super-strength like Izuku’s Full Cowling 5% he could go on the offensive more, but as it is he needs to pull back to avoid injury. 16) “Nice, Koichi is using his quirk to intercept the punches in mid-air, like I imagined him to do. Really nice, that’s basically the same principle of using those training gloves when sparring against Knuckles a few years ago.”- This means that Koichi could have pulled this move out at any point against the other villains who always tried to hit/attack him, allowing him to better contend against them physically. He could have been like one of those kung-fu masters who dodge or deflect attacks with minimal movement, deflecting force rather than receiving it. In terms of defensive skills, Koichi’s already a master, but his lack of offense – or rather, intent to harm – is a serious handicap in allowing him to win solo. (Vigilantes ch 100)
17) “Don’t Aizawa, there’s no need to pull him back, he’s resistant to explosions, he ate his cereals that morning.”- I’m not even certain if his unscathed appearance here is because of Aizawa’s quick reaction, or his own faster defensive power being used in the heat of the moment. (Vigilantes ch 104)
18) “No way that hit connected, I bet Koichi managed to turn around and use his shot to deflect the hit.
Hopefully.I’ll blame Pop regardless.”- Oh it connected….it just wasn’t strong enough to actually overcome Koichi’s greatest power, the ability to take a beating and get back up! @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 104, Replies Part 2
1) “choose your next words carefully furuhashi, i haven’t forgotten what happened to pop”- As an extension of his desire to “become” Koichi and thus, “the hero”, Nomura both flaunts what he’s done to Pop in Koichi’s face (perhaps even hoping for a rage-fuelled attack on himself) and yet still vainly clings to the possibility of “sparing” Pop so he can work on replacing Koichi in her heart. First and foremost, the mission he’s been given doesn’t matter to him at his core, it’s Koichi, and his hogging of the “role” he feels such intense longing for. 2) “Oh I see, you’re going down the self-sacrifice route, you would gladly lay down your life and your identity as a hero if it meant that Pop would be safe. You didn’t even hesitate, and that brings back memories of when you prostrated in front of Soga at the first chapter
I wonder if you’re gonna dodge away like that as well”- Though minor, Koichi has upgraded his “apology style” of combat. Now he can dodge and counterattack at the same time!
3) “Yeah, that just shows how much of a true hero Koichi is on the inside. When given the option of causing hurt or sacrificing himself to protect others, he always pick the latter
which only makes McBee even more angry at him”- Like the Internet Troll his creator is at heart, Nomura is one who actively antagonises others to get a rise out of them either with his abilities or his words, so the one thing that most denies and infuriates him is somebody refusing to strike back or properly retaliate like he wants. And in attacking first to get that satisfaction, he leaves himself open to being taken down before he could even really start the fight.
4) “Well I mean, yeah okay that one was expected. He did intend to kill you anyway Koichi.”- Nomura most wanted Koichi at this hospital so he could have a proper battle to the death with him with something Koichi holds as equally precious as Nomura does his self-identity on the line- Pop’s life. Nomura isn’t just pissed as Koichi apparently not getting the memo, Koichi offering to turn and run basically implies that both the things they’re fighting for aren’t worth it, which is just insulting on several levels to Nomura, which is why he makes the impulsive mistake of trying to squash Koichi with his foot rather than his fist.
5) “No point going NANI now McBee, Koichi offered you a way out peacefully, but you didn’t take it. Now you’ll have to face the fury of the cockroach.”- Fitting for a speedster-battle, the real fast Boi nearly ended this conflict in under 3 seconds, if not for Pop’s spectre haunting his guilty conscience.
6) “Oh hell yeah, look at my boy go! Now shit’s about to get good!”- Nomura’s advantage of Overclock enhancing his thinking speed means nothing if he’s not thinking properly in the first place, which makes Koichi the perfect counter to his usual style of fighting.
7) “Oh right, O'Clock can’t operate in mid-air, you require a solid surface to boost from. Koichi knows that, and he’ll take advantage of it.”- Technically, Overclock can operate in mid-air – it’s just useless at letting him actually do anything except fully process how screwed he is at light speed thought“Oh you have no fucking idea Soga. What you heard from Knuckleduster doesn’t make justice on how much that guy refuses to shut the fuck up”- AFO is at least skilled in infuriating and mentally destabilising others with his speeches and monologues – Nomura just destabilises himself with all his speechifying, making it easier for others to get the drop on him.
8) “If he was smart he’d use the monologuing to gain time to breath so he could use his quirk again, but unfortunately that’s asking too much from him.”- Yes, but all that talking would drain oxygen from his brain at the same time he sucked it in, so….
9) “Alright koichi, time to blow his head clean off. One chance, one shot, make it count, make it clean.”- Oh, if only. The biggest obstacle to Koichi winning this fight isn’t anything like the challenge of overcoming Nomura’s speed and various tricks, it’s Koichi getting over his hangups about fighting and learning how to actually hit somebody.
10) “I BET HE DIDN’T SHOT BECAUSE OF YOU, I’M STARTING TO HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT IF KOICHI SHOULD STOP McBEE OR NOT.”- I mean, he did shoot. His hand just…jerked his aim to the right subconsciously at the same time. Koichi’s got very good control over where he’s shooting, but that same control becomes a handicap unless he learns to embrace his inner bloodlust and just merc a guy.
11) “OH NO THE INFINITY GAUNTLET KOICHI WATCH OUT HE’S ABOUT TO SNAP”- Nomura’s doubly-pissed now, because he knows Koichi intentionally pulled that punch when he had him dead to rights, and the only reason he’s winning now is that he’s being handled with kid gloves. Sure, he can justify it as being proof of Koichi’s “unworthiness” to be the “hero” like him, but at the same time, it’s implying to him that Koichi doesn’t consider him worth fighting seriously. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 104, Replies Part 1
1) “Sp, where did we left? Ah, right, Koichi just flew into the stratosphere, then came back when he realized that calling for All Might would make me commit a homicide. Yeah, now we’re on a 1v1, My boy vs McBee. Time to see what shall unfold, on Chapter 104: The Bad one”- Koichi finally heeded his inner calling to heroism (that is, his own desire to not be on the sidelines this time), even if it means he’s breaking all the rules of common sense and self-preservation.  Took him a while to get up to Izuku’s level, I can tell ya that much.
2) “Yes but consider this: I’m going to rip your spine and beat you to death with it if All Might shows up to solve this problem.
Not you Koichi, I’m talking to Furuhashi right now.”- Koichi meanwhile, will be busy trying to stop Nomura blowing his spine out through the back of his skull before any official help arrives, thanks to him finally stepping up to the plate on his ownsome….without a solid plan of how he’s gonna get over his handicap of actually hitting an opponent in a fight.
3) “oh so Soga is in danger and might not survive the night?”- Downside of Koichi finally standing up to face Nomura. We don’t get Soga pulling the Benny Hill chase routine with the Anon drones.
youtube
4)“Alright Phelps, time to fight to keep the timeline stable.
The two henchman there, they can meet the same fate as Soga, we haven’t seen them in the main story anyway.”-Huh, actually, would Midnight’s gas even affect the Anon drones? It’s been a while, but whilst I recall that Nomura was especially vulnerable to her, I’m not certain if the drones need to breathe quite the same as a human does. 5) “Behold, The Bad One
the most evil boy to ever exist, the biggest troublemaker to walk the earth
behold…and despair”-well, Koichi certainly made Nomura despair there for a moment. Had him dead to rights and everything. Shame he didn’t quite land the hit, but at the same time, the fact he could have is arguably more of a slap in the face to Nomura than anything else he’s done so far. 6) “Everybody like “Uhhhhh- should we go help the boss? He’s gonna get his ass kicked if we don’t”
A side effect of having to micromanage every single nomu in this army that AfO generously granted McBee for some fucking reason.”- In choosing to make himself a mirror of Koichi to try and take his place in the narrative as both Knuckles’ successor and “the hero”, Nomura also made himself vulnerable to mirroring his moments of denseness and making poor decisions, like turning back to fight a villain when you have no actual drive to fight the villain. Both these boys are devoting all their available brainpower to this fight, because there isn’t enough to spread around and multitask up there.
7) "|[The Good, the Bad, and the ugly theme playing in the background]”- It certainly is in Nomura’s head at least. Sadly, koichi isn’t quite the movie buff he is, and hasn’t quite caught up to the script everybody else is working from, so he thinks this can maybe still be resolved without violence….though at least he’s prepared for Nomura’s refusal this time.
8) “OH MY GOD KOICHI YOU ARE NOT EVEN SURE IF HE’S THE SAME GUY THAT CONFRONTED YOU AT THAT ROOFTOP
I SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE MY JOKES ABOUT HOW MUCH McBEE IS A LOSER ARE REDUNDANT, BECAUSE THE STORY IS MAKING SURE TO NAIL IN THAT MUCH.”- Can’t actually blame Koichi for this one. It’s like if Pennywise confronted one of the Loser’s Club in the guise of a fear one of the others hand, there’s no way to recognise him without the proper “mask” on first. Even his costume and everything looks a little generic if you critically analyse it, so there’s not really much about Nomura that truly stands out beyond his intense desire to be a stand-out individual….which only really reinforces the point.
9) “What you mean Koichi? That’s exactly how he always looked. Can’t you recognize his shiny, puppy-like eyes?”- I mean, technically, you’re correct, this is what he’s always actually looked like….but he never wanted us to see anything but the “mask” he crafted for whatever persona he was trying to turn himself into. 10) “Oh fuck you McBee, I thought the no face thing was supposed to be intentional, are you really implying you just forgot to apply your makeup? I hope you’re fucking with Koichi there”- Let’s be honest, the fact he puts his face back on just before fighting Koichi is Furuhashi’s way of letting us really savour his humiliation and frustration as he takes on his arch-foe and gets treated like a chump by him.
11) “Huh. Can’t say I see the similarities. I think you’re just projecting there McBee, you are lame enough to think you two are the same while Koichi is not even sure if you are the person who swore revenge on him a few weeks before.”- They do actually look kinda similar- similar facial structures, especially when seen side-by-side like this- but mainly because Koichi already has a mostly-generic looking face that doesn’t stand out much from the crowd. It also adds layers to his entrapment of Pop – he might have been resembling an idealised version of Koichi in terms of mannerisms and appearance, but at the end of the day it was still a copied product, and got rejected for the original despite his effort. Remember that he doesn’t move forward with his Bee Pop idea until Pop rejects him for Koichi, almost like he wanted to prove the fake could overcome the original in something as minor as winning a girl’s heart by being more attentitve to her needs, and switched tactics in frustration and perhaps slight depression after that failed to work/validate his existence. A sort of “If my best efforts can’t sway Pop from you, then you don’t deserve to have her either”.
(Vigilantes ch 49)
12) “Oh ho ho, they are getting closer, you can’t escape for much longer… Sure, they could already have found you if they had Ragdoll with them, but then we wouldn’t have the dramatic reveal that you’re Koichi’s brother and all that during the final battle.”- Well, more like he’s technically Koichi’s evil Twin- and a self-styled twin to boot, which is sorta a new one for the genre.
(Vigilantes ch 54)
13) “Let’s see what shall take place, on Chapter 54: Siblings-
Oh- Oh boy… Siblings? In a situation where we have both Koichi and McBee? Oh my, how… fun… (:  “- I mean, evil twins are technically siblings, even if this falls more under the heading of ‘intentional clone’, given he’s done everything but physically possess Koichi to ‘take his place’ in the story.
(Vigilantes ch 55)
14) “I feel like I’m losing my mind, it was just a panel, but all the red flags started going off immediately on my mind, I don’t trust furuhashi to not be planning something, and the more I think about it, the more I see that there isn’t nothing in it that contradicts the original, in those aspects at least. There were a lot of holes with the Nomu stuff so far, but this idea doesn’t feel too off to not be a possibility”-  Well, turns out the cloning part is more metaphorical than literal- I think- and in any respect No:6 has intentionally turned himself in a mis-mashed clone of Knuckle and Koichi together, in an effort to produce his own identity out of a blend of theirs. I guess the concept of cloning bodies to easily produce Nomu might be one way the VF would tie into AFO and Ujiko’s plans, but at this point their end goals- and even the true intent behind giving Nomura such freedom and resources- is still a mystery.
(Vigilantes ch 56) 15) “wait
wait- oh- If that thing there is what McBee really is, and what he said about wanting to actually be Knuckles can be taken at face value, then that means that he can actually shapeshIFT GODDAMMIT I FUCKING KNEW IT, I KNEW THAT TIME AT THE CRAB UPRISING WAS SOMETHING IMPORTANT HE DID CHANGE HIS FACE TO TRICK MONIKA
HOLY SHIT- DID FURUHASHI ACTUALLY FORESHADOWED SOMETHING FOR ONCE?! DEADASS?!”- Yep, though it turns out that even his idea of ‘becoming a younger knuckleduster’ is based off of recombining and utilising Koichi’s own character with Knuckle’s speed and techniques as O’clock, showing how he’s lacking in the creative spirit needed to really become his own person.
(Vigilantes ch 57)
16)“Oh boy here he goes again, just before he regrows his arm in the most dramatic way possible. I mean, he isn’t wrong, Knuckles is cool, but I doubt he ever paid attention to the goodest boy™ around, Koichi.”- Well, he sure as hell is now…
(Vigilantes ch 57)
17) “Sorry McBee, but just as you said, there can be only one, and there already is: Koichi, the chosen one, the true Highlander. Even if you kill Knuckles here it won’t matter, for the torch has already been passed and- oh wait, I think that knuckles really is dead right now.
Oh well, there’s that. You just find Koichi and tell him this dramatic speech instead.”-There, he said the speech. Happy now? (Vigilantes ch 82) 18) “Also, did you just got Koichi`s bad naming sense as well?”- Seeing as he’s basically tried to become a fusion of Koichi and O’Clock, it seems that proverbial merger came with some disadvantages to his capabilities, namely his naming sense.
19) “Uhhuuu~ scawy~
Can you go back to the no-eyes face? That one was way cooler and more intimidating.”- Cooler, yes, but honestly less expressive too – which is sorta natural, honestly. Nomura’s here first and foremost to voice his complaints against Koichi about how he’s “wasting” the role that Knuckles and Pop and everybody else have given him as the “hero” in their little tale, and the tirade loses something if he’s got no real face to let him know exactly how much Koichi gets under his skin….or, whatever his body tissue counts as now.
20) “Koichi is like “bro what I’ve done I don’t even know you””- Koichi basically lucked into getting an arch-nemesis when Izuku had to train his ass off to inherit OFA’s long-time one…and even then, his true nemesis is somebody else entirely. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 103, Replies Part 2
1) “…
They fucking WHAT now
I hope I got that wrong, and you mean to say that Koichi is keeping track of McBee even at higher speeds, because otherwise…”- It seems that the shots somehow follow Koichi’s intended target, albeit with a low curving turn to them. It’s more noticeable with the softball shots, but it makes sense if Koichi’s firing them half on instinct at the indistinct blur Nomura’s become at high speed without really being certain of what part of him to hit. 2) “Bahahaha- McBee got defeated once again by the weakest of shits, oh my god man, AfO did a damn good job with this one, didn’t he?”- Koichi has been beating Nomura back with a nerf gun, when he actually has a genuinely dangerous arsenal hidden as backup. When Nomura finds out that he’s being handled with kiddie gloves this whole time, he’ll flip. 3) “Oh do you Phelps? I thought that you didn’t worked with Vigilantes, and rules and you let this run for too long and blah blah blah just let us see Koichi chasing McBee already.”- It’s actually a task that falls well within the purview of ordinary citizens, albeit rare because of the onset of mobile communication these days: Call for Help. 4) “oh, you mean the guys that you could’ve used before? what a fascinating fucking idea McBee, shame it’s too late for it now.”- It does clear the area of Nomura’s backup to allow him and Koichi to have a solo one-on-one at long last. 5) “Avoiding wasting them… like you did already against Aizawa? Oh my god man, he’s even talking to himself, I think the O'Clock tulpa started to grow sick of his shit.”- Between him and Tomura’s headspace, it seems the writers of the MHA verse have a real thing for giving their main villains multiple mental issues and personalities. 6) “HE FUCKING BETTER NOT
YOU HEAR ME FURUHASHI. YOU BETTER NOT.
IF YOU DO THAT I’LL STEAL YOUR FEMUR AND USE IT TO PLAY XYLOPHONE WITH YOUR RIBS”- Crises has been averted…for now. It’s kinda funny how summoning All Might is as much of a threat to our enjoyment of reading the story as it is to the villains. 7) “YES YES YES THERE’S STILL A CHANCE TO SALVAGE THIS STORY YES McBEE GO AFTER KOICHI AGAINST YOUR BETTER JUDGMENT”- Didn’t have to this time, as Koichi came to him for the final showdown. 8) “OH MY GOD THE O'TULPA JUST WENT “WELL, YOU’RE A LOST CASE, I DON’T KNOW WHAT I CAN SAY TO MAKE YOU NOTICE HOW STUPID THAT IS””- Hey, if rational arguments won’t cut it, indulge in his emotional breakdown so he at least cooperates a bit more, rather than standing still arguing with his imaginary friend, which helps nobody. 9) “OH THANK THE FUCKING GOD!
IT WAS KOICHI
WHY IT WAS KOICHI?
IS THIS PART OF THE PLAN SOMEHOW? HUH?”-  Koichi: I Am Here!....to draw Aggro! 10) “McBEE IS LIKE >)
NOW THINGS ARE STARTING TO LOOK PROMISING ONCE AGAIN”- Koichi is the only one not looking forward to this upcoming destined showdown. 11) “And that’s the end of the chapter, and boy did we just dodged a bullet there. Not like McBee that is.
But now that they put that card on the table I’m really fucking concerned that this is how it’s gonna end, with All Might showing up. I’m feeling scared that Koichi is there to cause a distraction while Soga leaves on his bike to call for backup.I’m terrified of that possibility.”- The one time we don’t want the mega-hero to show up and rescue everybody, because that’d mean stealing Koichi’s thunder. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 103, Replies Part 1
1) “So we got McBee McDown, you know what that means, time for some McBullshit! I know, this was supposed to be a return to the main series, but honestly, considering how close we are to ending Vigilantes I’m feeling really tempted to just keep pushing forward until it is finally destroyed.”- Such tenacity, not unlike a certain faceless antagonist, who also wants this fight go all the way to the bitter end.
2) “Shame that Phelps and the rest of the people have no idea, Soga probably knows since Knuckles must’ve told him what McBee could do. Or maybe not, considering how much of an ass Knuckles usually is.”- Turns out Phelps at least took precautions against Nomura’s movement capability with electro-shock handcuffs. Pity that Nomura can side-step that by just morphing his form out of the constraints of a human body into a bio-organic slime. No nerves to paralyse in that state.
3) “I hope you mean like, they give you an electric shock to stun you, and that this is not an implication that this is a quirk-suppressor handcuff, we’re over that dream already O'Clock Tulpa”- Ironically for a Quirk-user whose power mostly manifests as electric discharges around his body, electricity is also Nomura’s fatal weakness. Can’t move fast if you can’t move at all. 4) “But Midnight, if you’re gone, who will watch the watchman?
Also, I was wondering for a while, is your quirk even gonna work on him? Does McBee even has like lungs or something?”- Well, he used to, but likely not in his slime form, unless the bomber cells still carry oxygen to his brain, which is also how Midnight’s quirk can affect him still. 5) “What is it koichi? Do your crawlers ears heard something dangerous approaching? Like a small army of exploding nomus?”- Probably wondering how Pop’s doing, given how close they are to the hospital room and all the commotion- not to mention to flying bullets everywhere – still not over that Phelps A-OK’s a civilian using random fire on a hospital. 6) “Oh okay right, cutting off his hands is an option, he can regrow them later anyway, we know that. Don’t know why he simply didn’t blew them up, I think it’d be faster.”- He’s only got so many explosions in his body mass before it becomes inconvenient for his movement, detonating that much mass he can’t reclaim, so he needs to pick and choose when most effectively to blow up. 7) “McBee I warned you, you shouldn’t be laying down while liquefying your mortal coil, it’s too easy to end up choking on your own bits of flesh”- Not a problem is he doesn’t have lungs or a throat anymore. Only thing Nomura needs is a working brain to operate his freakshow of a body 8) “A what now Phelps?
I mean, sure, he needs oxygen to keep his quirk going or he’s gonna fry his own brain, but what the fuck is a deep breathing technique? You mean like, he breathed in a lot of oxygen? My if only someone gave him a quirk to deal with that.”- It’s a technique divers use when preparing to go underwater for an extended period of time, unsure when they’ll surface again. Basically, by exhaling rapidly just before your head goes under, you free up excess oxygen-deprived air molecules in your lungs and can suck a whole bunch of oxygen-rich molecules into your lungs instead with a final inhalation, allowing you to last underwater for longer. 9) “Now what in the fuck’s name- I don’t know why AfO gave you that quirk, but it is extremely convenient he did so. Wonder if this is a side effect of the regeneration quirk, or if it is the regeneration quirk in action, turning you into a mush so you can rebuild yourself”- More like the unstable bomber cells, being so malleable, basically allow him to shapeshift his features and form however much he wishes. At this point, the only part of him we can safely say is still human is his head, and even that might not last forever if he does something like letting the cells cannibalise his remaining parts for more power. 10) “Oh good thing that this… fucking bullshit… also regenerates your clothes, it would suck for you to have to be defeated with your McBee exposed like that”- Or like Nomura wasn’t wearing any clothes from the start except that long coat. In retrospect, it’s hard to tell how much of his casual attire and hero costume were clothing and how much was his actual body.
(Vigilantes ch 102)
11) “Unfortunately those ones can’t be taken down by aiming at the head. Trust me, we tried in the main series.”-Nomura however, can, and from what we see here, it’s just about the only weakness his body has left.
12) “Alright Thanos, keep acting like a prick like that and you’ll see what your fate is gonna be. Little spoiler, it’s gonna be exactly like that of Thanos.”- Koichi was listening, and immediately followed his advice.
13) “Yeah fine, go and try to use your infinity gauntlet on Phelps, a being protected by the immutable flow of fate, see how that’s gonna work out for you.”- Nomura mocked Phelps for being too slow, but ironically that in turn made him too slow to actually detonate him with Koichi’s faster reflexes in the area.
14) “OH HO HO LOOK AT THAT
I GUESS YOU FORGOT YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY SPEEDSTER HERE McBEE
TIME TO GET McOWNED”- Koichi’s so much faster and more decisive than Nomura, he even has time to set his shots to “stun” rather than the lethal attack- which I think is even faster than these softball shots to boot.
15) “REST ASSURED, KOICHI’S HERE TO ANNOY YOU UNTIL YOU FALL DEAD. THERE’S NO ESCAPING THE CRAWLER”- Koichi’s hidden tactic is revealed: Piss off Nomura until he self-combusts in anger! @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 102, Replies Part 2
1) “Well, I mean, he can just take a few steps back and step out of the corridor, Soga wouldn’t be able to hit him then and he could better prepare his next step
Or just fucking, not even bother. He can regenerate, he’s a nomu, he won’t die from that anyway”- True, but healing still takes time, and that leaves him vulnerable whilst he’s incapacitated for Phelps and the others to more decisively shot him in the vulnerable joints to impede his movements, as they proceed to do.  2)“OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
ALRIGHT OKAY NOW WE’RE FUCKING TALKING BABY
HERE COMES MY BOY!”- Koichi pulling a Jotaro on Nomura.
Tumblr media
3) “FUCK YEAH THE CRAWLER HAS CRAWLED INTO THE BUILDING
TIME TO FUCK SHIT UP”- Unlike with Soga’s machine gun, Koichi’s SGB doesn’t have an ammo limitation, merely his breath control, so he can unload without fear of running dry. Since the shots are non-lethal and slow, there’s no way they’d normally hit Nomura, so the issue laid in the timing of when he’d reveal himself and unleash his own barrage, ideally best when Nomura had already activated his super-speed and needed a ‘recharge’, which is what the whole “spray and pray” tactic was really about.
(Vigilantes ch 85)
4) “Ohhh, interesting… Yeah Koichi, it is not safe, since apparently this place has no heroes or security guarding it, considering nobody came to tell Soga to fuck off. It`s better for you to keep guard over her
Because the next time you meet McBee, one of you two will end up dead. There`s no other outcome for this story”- Ok. They’ve met. Now, it’s time to end this, one way or another.
5) “GO GO KOICHI GO! TURN McBEE INTO A McSWISS CHEESE”- The additional advantage of Koichi’s pacifism in a fight is that Phelps has no issues allowing him to proactively ‘attack’ Nomura like this, so long as he and the police make the actual arresting.
6) “ALRIGHT McBEE, TIME TO USE THE SECRET TECHNIQUE: WHACK LIKE HELL”- He has ironically not mastered the Ora ora technique, despite sinking all his skill points into Za Wardou. 7) “OH HO HO, SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE HIT A SHOT
MY, PHELPS DIDN’T LIE DID HE”- Ironically, it took until the endgame for Phelps to start acting like an actual cop on duty. 8) “HA HA! NOT EXPECTING THIS ONE, WERE YOU McBEE? EVEN WITH YOUR REGENERATION YOU’RE STILL AT THE MERCY OF ANOTHER SPEEDSTER, AND LOOK AT THAT, KOICHI IS RIGHT HERE
TIME TO GET McFUCKED”- It ain’t about how fast you can go, its how and when you use that speed, and despite not being able to do split-second though patterns like Nomura, Koichi’s far more efficient on when he uses his techniques in the field. 9) “Now terrible idea Phelps, he can explode you if you touch him, he also has killer queen besides the world”- Well, they needed to subdue him somehow regardless. Shame nobody remembered to bring along one of those nomu-incubation tanks to seal him inside.
10) “Koichi finally is face-to-face with McBee in their final duel, and he already managed to take him down without much trouble. Sure, McBee is gonna do some McBullshit, we still have some 18 chapters to go and all that, but that was a great job from my boy.
Now, if only McBee had an army of explosive pawns just waiting for his orders somewhere right behind him…”-Doesn’t need the pawns yet, when he can just go full-on slimer, like that muck-quirk guy Izuku encountered on first meetng All Might. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 102, Replies Part 1
1) “This week was a bit too tiresome, getting back to work and I had to handle all on my own as my usual crew was out in other sites, so I didn’t had a chance to properly liveblog, and the free time I had I mostly read that goddamn 100 girlfriends manga. I don’t have regrets but that’s not the point here.”- This is also known as “the Manga Hole effect”. Once you enter the rabbit hole, you find all your free time is dedicated to it. And like a warren, there’s multiple different holes you can find that have a chance of sucking you in for days. 2) “Oh so there’s Midnight, she’s inside the hospital rather than in the front lines where we could be using her right now. She’s protecting Pop personally, and she better be, because here he comes…”- If we only have one actual pro hero on site, it’s best to have them right next to the priority target,, though how effective Midnight’s gas would be against Nomura is a toss-up. On the one hand, as his powers rely on oxygen intake during a rest period, filling a room with gas is a guaranteed counter, but if he’s fast enough to move through the fumes without taking a breath, then it’s useless. Basically, it comes down to others to force him back whilst she creates a disadvantageous environment for him. (Vigilantes ch 101) 3) “Eyyyy- look at that, McBee showed up to the party for real? What a surprise? And even more reasons for Midnight to be on the frontlines throwing her sleep gas around, but, sure, let us wait and see.”-Midnight’s exactly where she needs to be to best save Pop at a moment’s notice- inside a confined room where her sleeping gas is most effective- and also because Nomura’s speed means that just because he’s in front of the Hospital now, he won’t be in the next 5 seconds from their perspective.
4) “McBee why do you being dramatic and giving a sign to them with your hand? You can control them telepathically, can’t you? You really can’t help not being unnecessarily extra even when there’s no one watching, can you?”- I mean, he does have an audience of Tochi, Rapt and the miscellaneous police officers in the outside of the building, but even that’s just an excuse. Nomura here to put on a performance, and unlike his action hero script, this time he’s playing a horror movie monster on a rampage. 5) “McBee are you seriously leaving your goddamn army waiting outside rather than taking them with you? Honestly, sometimes I understand why you never won a single match so far.”- Not only would they slow him down inside the cramped, tight rooms of the hospital, but they also deter anybody else from entering lest they explode, as well as acting as sentries warning him out outside interference from the entrance. Not to mention, he also needs to move fast before more heroes from the outside come in to investigate the blackout and run the risk of ruining the operation. 6) “You say that like there’s even a problem. To McBee those are only disposable pawns, and besides, if they bring the hospital down on top of Pop then that takes care of their problem.”- True, but it’s not a guarantee that collapsing the building will kill her, and it’d bring more attention down on Nomura is there’s multiple casualties in a terrorist bombing as opposed to one. Not to mention this is first and foremost, a challenge to Nomura alone to see how he performs in this circumstance.
7) “Huh… Alright, now that I can understand, thank you for the explanation O'Clock Tulpa of emotional support. Still, it’s not like McBee even has that much brainpower normally anyway, we’ve seen it first hand.”- Nomura needed to spare as much of his limited RAM processing power as possible for this phase of the mission.
8) “how many fucking phases you even get my man”- As many as he thought sounded cool for the operation. Koichi’s interference is probably gonna turn this in something like  “Phase 5.3” as we go steadily off-script. 9) “Oh, look, it’s Phelps and the blue boy group, lovely, like they can even do something here besides slowly him down for half a second.”- Actually, that’s Soga and Koichi’s job, blunting the efficiency of his overclock speed so he can’t dodge well enough when Phelps goes for the kneecapping. 10) “Hopefully the rubber bullets manage to hit their target, ey Phelps?”- It’s an all-lead buffet this time. Even comes with an extra portion of machine-gun ammo.
11) “Soga. You can see by the spiked hair of bastardness, it is soga.
So, someone managed to find a sniper rifle among Knuckles’ toys it seems”- That, or if we wanna get even more hypocritical, Phelps loaned Soga a machine gun from the police. We’ve seen the super-powers at work in ordinary folks, I don’t doubt the police with weak Quirks make up for it with bigger firepower. 12) “How dare you offend the name of the greatest officer that ever existed, Puto? I’ll let you know that he’ll cut his salary in protest for this”- I do kinda wish he’d had our own Gumshoe, somebody who was willing to work with “the enemy” in order to achieve a greater good and wasn’t exactly the brightest around, making it easier for the vigilantes to gain aid from him even when under orders not to do so. 13) “No Soga goddammit you’re just delaying the inevitable just let us see McBee McDying already”- This is the closest we’re getting to Izuku’s split-second strategizing mid-fight, so we’ll have to make do with it. 14) ““loves to play dress-up”
lol. lmao even”- Soga calls em like he sees em.
15) “No you ain’t sorry, but keep going, I want to see what the genius plan is”- “Shoot him until he stops moving”. That’s it, that’s the plan. 16) “Snipe? with a sub-machine gun like that from such a distance? Yeah sure Phelps, it’s not like you have training with guns or something”- Doesn’t need to if all Soga’s aiming for it so be a noisy distraction. That said, the fact that he was able to aim the bullets roughly around the same corridor area from across the street indicates that Soga has had some experience with ballistics, presumably self-taught with Knuckle’s arsenal. 17) "Look phelps, I think that activating his quirk isn’t the best of ideas, considering that he can kill all of you waaaaay before he needs to stop to recharge
A shot at his head would at least make him waste some time regenerating, that would give you a better chance.”- All they need to do is get him to activate his speed perception from the initial barrage- then comes Koichi’s turn to lay on an additional burst of firepower when Nomura’s not expecting it and running out of time to keep his speed up. Furthermore, the bullets are all concentrated in the hallway between both parties, so Nomura would have to unnecessarily risk himself dodging the shots to close the distance when he can just arrogantly wait the suppression fire out – which is exactly what they were counting on him to do 18) “…
You guys are acting so stupidly while trying to play by the rules that I’m starting to root for McBee here.”- There is something to be said for Knuckle’s utter disregard of the rulebook when it came to getting hero work done. Although, from what I gather, if Soga thought he was a good enough shot to hit Nomura, he’d go for it, so it’s still just mainly Phelps who wants to avoid getting the civilian’s hands dirty.
19) “Yeah Soga I’m pretty sure you’re gonna hit someone doing that. Unless that was part of your plan all along… sneaky bastard”- We can plausibly say that anybody Soga hits here could be filed under ”it was an accident”, police or villain alike.
(Vigilantes ch 54)
20) “Afterwards we’ll need to sit down and talk a little bit about being laxer with people that act like Vigilantes, because I’d say that using personal connections with pro heroes would constitute a big no-no, since you had no way to know if he would be available or not. He could’ve been saving other people Phelps, would’ve you asked him to let them die so your sister would live? Is that it Phelps? Is that it? Interesting Phelps… very interesting…”-Well, I guess him somewhat accepting Soga’s aid in fighting off No:6 here is probably due to him realising he needs to loosen up his standards a little to see justice done this night, though it’s a little ironic that he ended up loosening his standards with Soga, of all people.
(Vigilantes ch 95)
21) “Oh… you…
Yeah, I forgot you were also here. Still guarding the front door, totally not acting like vigilantes?
Also, cooperating with the authorities? They are civilians Midnight, that intel he mentioned is all he can do, wouldn’t want them to, you know, act like vigilantes.”- Well, on the one hand, Soga just opened fire with a machine gun straight into a hospital, but on the other, he did so with Phelps’ blessing, so does that still count as Vigilante activity, or do we file it underneath “cooperating with the authorities”?
(Vigilantes ch 101) 22) “Hope those aren’t rubber bullets you’re shooting.
I still haven’t let go of that one.”- As we can see in slo-mo, this time Phelps very decisively didn’t come packing non-lethal rounds in defence of the hospital.
23) “Hopefully you know what you’re doing Phelps. Rhetorical question, I know you don’t know.”- Ok, but does Nomuraknow that Phelps doesn’t know what he’s doing? Perhaps it’s like to make like Nick, and bluff our way to victory. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 101, Replies Part 2
1) “YEAH BOY! THAT’S THE STUFF!
PLUS FUCKING ULTRA!
NOW AT LEAST REMEMBER TO BREATH, WE DON’T WANT YOU TURNING BLUE BY THE TIME YOU REACH THE HOSPITAL”- And here comes the big reveal that connects both Izuku and Koichi’s powers. All along, they’ve been limited by their users’ self-imagined beliefs and understanding of how they think they work. It’s when they let go of thinking and start using the powers on instinct, like it’s a third limb they’ve been born with, that the true potential finally shows. The centipede’s dilemma was capping off Koichi’s real strength this whole time, so when he stops thinking about what he can’t do, and focuses on something more important, like saving Pop, his power skyrockets, and his limits vanish. 2) “…Welp spoke too soon. Shame. Now with his death the fabric of reality shall begin to unravel and disintegrate.”-Only once he finishes Phelps off by shooting him with an actual bullet, “for old times’ sake”. 3) “Ah shit it was just Soga. Never mind then, keep moving koichi, there’s more important stuff to care about right now.”- Sadly, Soga is the designated “ideas man” for the vigilante group right now, which means any clever strategy they need to turn the tables on Nomura needs to be run by him first. Downsides of not having Koichi become completely independent and self-sufficient as a hero- er, Vigilante. 4) “Alright Mr. Strategist, do tell us what the counterattack will entail, since you’re apparently the brain of this whole operation.”- I will admit that for all his strengths as a protagonist, Koichi not having Izuku’s ability to think and plan on his feet, and thus being reliant on others for ideas, does majorly handicap his ability to heroically perform in action. 5) “Jokes on you Soggy, that’s been his life for the past three non-important years. You wouldn’t know, since they weren’t important and thus weren’t shown, but I’ll assure you, all that non-important stuff was building up to this exact moment right here.”- I’d say it was a joke, but it really was all leading up to this fight all along – and us being absent from the humdrum day-to-day does really make us feel the disconnect in Koichi’s journey as a hero compared to Izuku, who we’ve followed closely for an entire year of his life up to this current fight with Tomura. 6) “Also, where’s Midnight? Why isn’t she here? Her quirk could’ve put all of them to sleep, or at least she could try to do so.”- Would that even work on the drones? They have mouths, sure, but they don’t seem to have noses or such to breath with, and it’s unclear if their weird biology would even be affected by the normal cocktail of chemicals that Midnight uses to make others go to sleep.
7) “Again, how many of those fucking things did AfO gave McBee? I was under the impression that Nomus were, you know, difficult to make, even the less-powerful models, and it would probably be worse here considering that this is the early models, before the technology was properly mastered.”- Given the bomber cells have weird “growing” capacities, like we saw with how Nomura formed hands out of them in order to beat Knuckles, it’s possible that he just grew a big vat of the stuff and had it form under Nomura’s control into humanoid Drones to control with. The issue being is that this growth results in the cells being unstable and bad for long-term use, so they won’t work with a Nomu’s trademark durability down the line, but they’re useful for making a large disposable force for an assault like this- don’t even leave any traces behind with how they utterly eradicate themselves with each blast. 8) “So, the final clash is about to start for real. Even McBee himself is there to get his hands dirt, but my oh my, Koichi is right here, and as he showed he has unlocked the next level of his quirk, and if he was already fucking him over before, well, let us just say McBee doesn’t stand much of a chance right now…”- This fight is gonna be wild, let me tell you. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 101, Replies Part 1
1) “Are you ready for some Vigilantes? Rhetorical question, it doesn’t matter, because we’re about to jump in. So last time Aizawa sacrificed himself to hold the nomu back so Koichi could rush to the hospital.”- The only thing Aizawa sacrificed was his dignity in pretending that he totally isn’t helping a legally-recognised villain save the day because he has a soft spot for him. Even the Drones could see that, and they don’t have eyes! 2) “Hey Aizawa, nice cover there, shame that you don’t work with criminals, right?”- We could probably term it “cooperation under Duress”, like with how the League and Nighteye’s group “cooperated” to take down the Hassaki.
3) “Not that Phelps can do something but I think it’d be nice for him to know of the impeding doom coming his way. It would help him have some time to make amends with his god.”- Honestly, Koichi’s dash was really more about reaching Soga, who’s nearby Phelpes, than it was reaching the man himself. Face it, if we want something done to effectively upset Nomura’s plans, it’s gonna come from Soga and not the police. 4) “Koichi. You can go up the walls. That’s as much a problem to you as the weather in New York right now. And if you think Aizawa was unaware of them then you’re not putting much faith in our favorite hobo.”- To be fair, it’s not like they had a lot of time together to build up a buddy-cop dynamic. Koichi’s probably unable to see through the obvious Tsundere attitude that’s fooling nobody else because of his own inbuilt denseness. 5) "Alright Aizawa, I’d say how you’re somehow even more of a tsundere than in the main series, but I had to take a double take.
Are you considering Koichi an amateur? Because that would imply that although he is not a pro hero, he’s certainly on his way there, he just needs more experience.
Is that what you’re implying Aizawa?”- Intense combat from being mobbed from all sides means that Aizawa’s not thinking as clearly about what he’s saying in the heat of the moment. Besides, he’s right, by this point, everybody can see that Koichi’s just an under-trained hero in the making, with only the pesky legal red tape getting in his way. 6) “YEAH THERE GOES MY BOY!
LOOK AT HIM FLYING!”- No regrets to weigh him down, only motivation pushing himself forward.
7) “Don’t worry Aizawa, they weren’t paying any attention anyway. Otherwise the shockwave caused by your tsundere aura would have obliterated them.”- These drones are brainless, but if they did have one, they’d be rolling their eyes at Aizawa’s….oh, wait.
8) ““I-It’s not like I hate you guys or anything- at all! uwu~ bakas!” -Aizawa, before warning me if I do this joke one more time he’ll physically strangle me through the computer screen.”- Just needed to raise the finger one more digit to the right….
9) “Alright, back to Koichi and his skipping. Let us see how many hops it takes to get to the hospital.”- More than he can be bothered to care to count, or let himself slow down for.  10) “Well, time to surpass your limits there my boy. Plus ultra and all that
been quite some time since I last saw anyone mentioning plus ultra tbh.”- When lives are on the line, that’s when Koichi can truly go plus Ultra, which means that keeping him away from the danger of the Villain Factory and its plans actually handicapped his learning potential. 11) “Well I sure hope it’s not heaven, because if you don’t go beyond your limits that’s exactly where you’ll end at. After a brief encounter with the pavement below, that is.”- Naw, but Nomura’s certainly going to wind up going straight to hell when they finally clash in an all-out Deathmatch. 11) “oh who’s that character? I have no idea- no wait I think I remember her, she showed up sometimes before. Where did ended up at? Huh? The fridge? Yeah, that’s a possibility, most female characters end up there in those stories. Now if only if I could remember her name…”- Hey, at least you didn’t have to deal with the monthly chapter release schedule extending the time she was absent for even longer. @thelreads

Thelreads, MHA 290, Replies Part 2
1) “You say he tossed you aside and forgot about you, but we know they all think you died, they even have a memorial to you, hell Endeavor was praying at it, it didn’t seemed like he didn’t cared that much. Sure, that was after he started to regret his actions, but still.”- Reminder: At least half of this is him intentionally twisting the facts to suit his public narrative. What Endeavour actually felt or did at the time is still unknown, but everything Toya is saying about himself should be taken with a massive grain of salt. If there’s truth in what he’s saying, it’s only because he’d decided the truth would hurt more than a manipulative lie.
2) “no wait a second, isn’t Toya- Dabi- fuck it, Tobi supposed to be the oldest one? Also, if they had you as this “super hero project” then why did they had another kid?”-Toya is alone in the training room, not being mentored by Enji, and then says that he’d go on to complain/vent about it to his younger brother afterwards. This means he was choosing to train by himself, but running into the stumbling block of his natural incompatibility with his own fire powers, and saw it as him having been “abandoned” by his own father after he just wasn’t genetically perfect enough for him, choosing to put his focus on a younger child who’d have the perfect combination. It’s why he expresses camaraderie towards Natsu, another “failure”, but hatred and dehumanisation towards the “success” Shoto, who got everything Toya has literally been killing to possess just by being born. Whilst complicated, he does seem to have some vestiges of care towards his fellow “failures”, but either animosity or apathy towards his parents, and sheer loathing towards the one he saw as “stealing” his place to exist in the world.
3) “Oooooookay Tobi, glad to know that yeah you really were around when Shoto was born, but because you’re talking about how he was a “success” then this means that you were around when he got his quirk, which would be like, 3 to 4 years old if I recall correctly
and you decided that you’d kill the baby…
yeah okay I’m not that surprised by the Twice thing anymore.”- It’s unclear if he meant killing Shoto once he’d become a legitimate hero in the industry to spite his father’s dreams and ambitions, or if he always had the desire to kill Shoto just from the moment of his existence but never really acted on it. Either way, he’s always seen Shoto as his enemy to kill, not his family.
4) “Holy fuck okay seems like Dabi is off his fucking rockers right now.
Jesus.
Alright let us see where this is gonna go, but damn I already see this won’t end well.”- Toya’s always been mad as a hatter. He’s just very good at acting sane (Not that different from the rest of us, really ), and now the mask is off, he’s putting that acting skill to use in emphasizing his insanity and irredeemable nature.  He is his family’s shame, and the world will witness and remember him forevermore because of this.
(MHA ch 279) 5) “Toga please, look at his fucking arm, that thing was never okay to begin with.”- His arm, or his mind? Either one works really, this boy be nuts.
(MHA ch 244)
6) “The wizard there was… weird, now that I think about it. He was really focused on taking down Endeavor, like the hero was to blame for everything wrong going on with society and only he knew it, but… it wasn’t clear what exactly triggered this. We know what Endeavor did wrong, but he wasn’t supposed to know that. I do wonder why he suddenly thought that Endeavor is the harbinger of their destruction, even though for society in general he is starting to surpass expectations.”- Turns out it’s because the prodigal son himself made him aware of the PLF’s plans and his own personal one to destroy Endeavour on a public scale, aware that Starservant was so unbelievable as a source of information that nobody would trust a thing he said, and that the old man’s only course of action was to try and remove Endeavour and get a new number one in his place, one which wouldn’t cause a societal loss of faith if his dark secrets were exposed and who was genuinely worthy of the position. all of which was only to help bolster Endeavour’s confidence in himself that he was doing the right thing before Dabi swooped in to take it all away and laugh in his face about it.
(MHA ch 250)
7) “Oh thank god it wasn`t… It seems like it was merely a stalker obsessed with Endeavor, a rare thing to see to be honest, but oh lord why do I feel this character will do something creepy?”- Turns out, not so rare when the head stalker is creating proxy stalkers to prop his old man up so he can knock him down all the pegs, and the whole of hero society with him. (MHA ch 252) 8) “Ah, right, Ball-pondering wizard did try to take down endeavor, almost forgot about it- But I didn`t forgot about the fact he seemed… strangely aware of something… something dark, darker, yet darker…”- Calling back to his failed attack on Endeavour is a neat little narrative trick to tie these two, seemingly-unrelated villains together and help factor in the reveal that Dabi’s the one who’s been pulling their strings the whole time, making him the overarching villain of this mini-arc
(MHA ch 251) 9) “GODDAMMIT NOW I`M QUESTIONING IF TOYA DIDN`T DIED BECAUSE ENDEAVOR REFUSED TO KILL A VILLAIN IN THE PAST- HORIKOSHI CAN YOU FUCKING STOP I`M TRYING TO STAY LOYAL TO MY DABI THEORY”-Good for you for sticking to the correct theory, though it’s possible that Dabi intentionally nudged Ending into targeting one of his family members around Endeavour to grant his insane wish instead of just attacking the man himself and praying for an over-strong blow. For Toya, he’d know that would dig deep into the pain caused by his own ‘demise’, and such emotional anguish for Endeavour was reward enough for him to suggest it to the insane psycho.
10) “Not like Twice at least
Sorry Tobi, you continue your little dance there, although I doubt that Endeavor is even listening right now, he’s still too shocked.”- Toya does not wish to let the past pain fade and the wounds heal, because he never stopped festering in his own anguish over being rendered “irrelevant” for the purpose he was born for. And so, in his spite, he refuses to die or go quietly into the night, using his own family drama as a springboard to launch an attack on the very image of heroics themselves, all to spread the pain beyond even those he’s personally involved with. This isn’t about spreading a message, it’s about spreading suffering and hopelessness for all, in the darkest hour.
11) “holy crap okay yeahSeems like someone is having the best day of his life indeed”- He’s been waiting for this all along, trusting nobody with the truth, hiding everything about himself, all to twist the situation to his advantage, and now it’s finally paid off better than he ever could have imagined, all without relying on outside help. It’s not just his spiteful retaliation on “Dr Frankenstein”, it’s his success at doing this all solo, proving how competent he is in comparison to Shoto.
12) “Dabi is the oldest, and then there’s Fuyumi and Natsu, then Shoto. Dabi says that he was born because Endeavor wanted a super-mega-perfect hero to surpass All Might, but Tobi also said that during his time training there, which should be when he was at least 3-4, Natsu was already there, and he wasn’t a baby, if Tobi was going to him to cry. If endeavor had Tobi, why did he had another two kids? And he implied that he met Shoto and wanted to kill him, but if that was the case then shouldn’t Shoto at least recall his existence?”- At the very least, Shoto has vague memories of Toya from afar, watching him play with the others before getting dragged away to train. However, they never got closer than that, and afterwards, Toya apparently had his accident that disfigured him and lead to them assuming he was dead. By all accounts, Shoto seems to have never really been able to interact well with his family until Endeavour finally became the number one hero, by which point Toya had been “dead” for years. @thelreads

Thelreads, MHA 290, Replies Part 1
1) “And boy, after the previous chapter that was basically “toga is having a shitty day, let us punch her in the liver for funsies” I suppose we shall continue the pain train. Oh wait, no we won’t, I just saw what the chapter name was in the folder. Oh boy.
Oh boy.
Let us get ready for Chapter 290: Dabi’s dance.
I hope its the flamenco.”- I’d say it’s actually the Rumba. After all, what is hate, if not the mirror of love, and Dabi’s entire endgame here has always been a twisted expression of his love and admiration for his father, which he aims to show by tearing down the pedestal that the world sees him on, just like it was torn down for him so very long ago. Time for the pain train pileup. 2) “…
uh… okay, so not only the heroes are fighting shigaraki but skynet decided to rebel today, and now we need to kill a tv. I see.”- Skeptic’s always been the IT guy for when you want the utilities of modern society to become weapons agaisnt your enemies….and Toya’s got a lot of enemies besides just dear old pops. 3) “OH NO
OH DEFINITELY NO
I THINK I KNOW WHERE THIS IS CHAPTER IS GOING
IS IT TIME TO REVEL WHAT WE ALL ALREADY KNOW?”- The flowers that Enji remembered Rei liked, in focus, a testament to the fact that there was genuine affection between them at one point, no matter how badly it soured. Sitting between Rei and the TV, that’s about to broadcast the biggest example of just how badly that relationship went astray. 4) “IT’S THE MOMENT GIRL
TIME TO SEE IF YOU RECOGNIZE THE GUY ON THE TV”- First thing the chapter shows: that Toya’s broadcast is going to cause untold amounts of emotional pain to his mother, after she’s been trying so hard to recover from her mistake with Shoto, all as collateral of his spiteful commitment to smearing mud on the family name to spite his father. Toya never even acknowledges Rei in his entire monologue, at best only alluding to the fact the family tried to move on from their painful past that he embodies, and how he won’t let them as long as he draws breath. His own mother, devastated by his survival, but he never even takes note of it in favour of tormenting his father. She’s not even collateral damage to him, she’s nothing.  5) “…
Dabi, did you had to start it like this? It looks like you’re about to make a public apology video”- He’s apologising to the public alright, for the fact that his father is not a true hero…. because there is no such thing as a “real hero”, just a bunch of people in costumes who’ve deluded themselves and others into thinking otherwise, and it’s time for a cold hard dose of reality to wake them all up. 6) “DAMMIT HORIKOSHI WE WANT TO SEE DABI TALKING, DO WE NEED TO CUT BACK TO THE GROUND ZERO OF HELL?”- There’s a lot going on in motion here, but I think Horikoshi does well in balancing the different viewpoints between characters to give an understanding of the gravity of the situation whilst also getting acrss the chaotic out-of-control frenzy that’s consuming the country with every moment. You really can’t blame the heroes for losing control of everything when there’s just so many different things to keep track of.
7) “now, please remind him to carry you alongside when he retreats, otherwise Machia is gonna take that order literally.”- That’s only if Tomura will give up enough control of himself to let that order be said, and I don’t think he’s in a cooperating mood, much less a loser’s mentality. He’s here to fight, and he’s sticking that fight out to the end….so long as his limbs still respond to him, anyway.
8) “Oh yeah, after what you did, Hadou is gonna fuck you up. No mercy at all. That girl is terrifying.”- Tomura’s already fucked up five ways to Sunday, one more beating to add to the list could be the clincher that puts him down, or it could just be another fatal thrashing that he overcomes to keep soldiering on.
9) “Oh are they gonna mix their quirks to maximize the fuck-him-up potential?”- They don’t have quite enough battle synergy between them to pull that off on the fly, but then again, their Quirks are so powerful, they don’t really need much more than “catch him in a crossfire and don’t let up till there’s a broken husk left”. Might even have put him down for the count, given how unresponsive he is to Machia’s arrival.
10) “Shut up Endeavor, you should be dead by now, let those guys have their fun killing shigaraki before Machia comes around to ruin the party.”- Too late, fun police is at the door. 11) “Also, glad to see you’re still alive Bakugo, and already talking shit. Ready to be thrown into the meatgrinder once again? I hope you are”- Technically, as it’s his sweat that’s explosive, and he’s drenched in the stuff after all his exertions, throwing Bakugou at the enemy and letting him self-detonate for a big bang attack is a valid tactic. “Absolute Victory” can still be achieved if the enemy loses in the end, even if you yourself are left in pieces.
12) ““ha… ha… fuck you… spinner…” -Shigaraki, right before he died for real.”- Real friends are the kind who talk shit to you even in front of the firing squad – in fact, it’s especially whenever the going gets tough that they double down on the smack talk, because then you’re motivated to live on just a bit longer for a rebuttal. 13) “Well Endeavor, you did already fight an overwhelming foe and almost died doing so, I think you can do that again. Hell you can even go the extra mile right now, but I suppose you won’t, because Dabi hasn’t revealed his super secret identity yet.”- If the one thing AFO ever feared was a hero that’d fight back no matter how hopeless the odds or their injuries, then all Dabi needs to do to take his old man down is wipe out his will to fight, especially in  this crises situation where one move could decide victory or defeat. Sure, it’s mainly for his own selfhish benefit, but revealing the truth behind himself to his family and society in one undermines everything that’s being fought for right now, and even in the aftermath, the cost will likely be unrecoverable. 14) “OH HO HO, HERE WE GO
NOW TIME TO REVEAL THE RED HAIR UNDERNEATH SO WE CAN ALL GO “WHAAAA- HE’S A TODOROKI? I WOULD NEVER IMAGINE!””- Toya just casually carrying around that bottle of hair-remover for his whole “dramatic unmasking” even at a moment’s notice- and he’s not even the league member who goes around wearing a mask all the time. The first time we saw him in the anime was even in front of a beauty salon watching the news broadcast of Endeavour fighting against the league’s Nomus, realising he knew where to look for public “allies” against his father, suggesting he’d just topped up his supply of the stuff to be ready to go with this reveal at a moment’s notice whenever it was most devastating.
Tumblr media
Of note, if that stuff is actually bleach or equivalent, then Toya just dumped a bottle of it onto his visibly open wounds and stitched-together skin. He must be in absolute agony right now, but it’s totally worth it to this dramatic bitch if he succeeded in pulling off a reveal for the ages. 15) “WHAAAA- HE’S A TODOROKI? I WOULD NEVER IMAGINE!
WAIT THE FUCK, WHITE HAIR? I WAS SERIOUSLY EXPECTING RED, BUT ALRIGHT, OKAY”- Shoto’s red and white hair showcases his hot and cold powers, as well as his stoic personality contrasted with his passionate emotions buried underneath the surface. Despite taking after their father in ability, Toya’s white hair is reflective of him taking after Rei’s power in personality, his heart having become “frozen” and callous towards his loved one’s suffering in favour of his grand revenge plan. (MHA ch 263)
16) “And some more familiar faces on the villains side. All of them rushing towards the fight, although Dabi is going the other way, which is a bit worrisome for some reason.”-Dabi is not a good team player. Whilst this would normally backfire in a series that emphasises the importance of working together to overcome adversity, as it turns out, keeping your cards close to your chest and trusting nobody means that nobody’s ready when you make your own counter-plan to suit your own agenda, whatever it is.
(MHA ch 251) 17) “Oh god, Horikoshi planted the seed of doubt on my mind, I swear to god if it turns out that Dabi is just some nutjob that happened to have fire and hates Endeavor for other reason…”- No fear of that it seems, but if it helps, I was also second-guessing myself around about this point. The hook of a good mystery is being given vague enough clues that what you think is the answer might not actually be the truth and suddenly you’re going over everything in detail with a fine tooth-comb, overturning your assumptions and reconsidering all the angles…
(MHA ch 266)
18) “That depends on who you ask, we still have our doubts, but the general consensus is that he`s either a Todoroki, or he`s what happens when a flamethrower acquires a quirk. We`ll also never know.”- You’ll know when Toya’s ready to let everybody know.
(MHA ch 267) 19) “That was basically the same as confirming the theory without actually confirming it, oh wow, fuck you Horikoshi.
Hawks was just thinking about Endeavor, then you have Dabi tell about who he was, and he Hawks wouldn`t be surprised if he was just a random nobody, no, he would only react if he knew the name that was said. And why would he need to keep both eyes on him more than anyone else? Homoerotic reasons aside, it would be because he`s the son of the person Hawks admires the most.”-  A 99% confirmed theory is still not 100% confirmed. But people sure were waiting with baited breath when Dabi was finally ready to cast aside all pretences. You know that analogy you made on Vigilantes with the oncoming train wreak? The entire mess we’re in is the result of multiple train collisions in a huge pile-up, and Dabi’s reveal here is but one of many that just adds to the chaos that readers had to experience week by week as the situation developed, anticipating each new development with excitement and dread.
20) “Now that we got confirmation of that, oh boy, now shit’s gonna get serious, because there’s way more questions than answers here.”- Unfortunately, Toya’s so caught up in the moment, and spiteful towards the heroes, that he’s only giving enough details to emphasize his “anti-hero” agenda, both to the beat family members before him and to the public at large. The deeper questions about how the hell he became this way will have to wait for the chaos to die down, if it ever does from now on…
21) “only 30? Jesus man, you really suck at this serial killing thing.”- He’s spit-balling, because he can’t actually be sure/didn’t really think too hard about the morality of those he’s killed, merely wanting to emphasize that he has murdered innocents, will go on to murder more, and that all of it should be blamed on Endeavour rather than his own choices. Not exactly an admittance of remorse or regret for what he’s done, merely emphasizing that he’s a horrible villain and then twisting the narrative the push the guilt that he’ll never feel for that onto his “creator” instead. @thelreads

1) “Alright McBee, please tell me you’re gonna honor your name.”- More like “McBoom” actually. 2) “…
Alright I didn’t saw that one coming
but also, those Nomus do not look like the people who were calling to them a few panels ago, and they weren’t doing this bullshit stuttered speech, they said a whole sentence without problem”- The perception filter of looking at them from afar contrasted with getting a better look up close. And I’m guessing the stuttering is their last audio command/voice “skipping” a little as the “explode” command overrides all the rest of their functions. 3) “Good going McBee, I’m sure this is gonna work flawlessly”- Explosions have never worked out for failed him yet! 4) “bomber villain cells… you mean, a bomb quirk, right? something that Aizawa can shut down just by looking at
Also, lol at this page trying to be dramatic and making it seem like Jeanist, Edge shot and Tensei, three famous top heroes which we saw a lot in the main series, are just gonna do the opposite of being alive like that
lmao even”- Granted, he probably wasn’t factoring in Aizawa’s anti-Quirk Quirk when they were made, since a power that stops other powers working is so rare as to be one in a million, and thus the potential scenarios wherein it’d be used against the drones in deployment were not high, but yeah, having any other heroes present would have made the stakes higher. At best, they’re going to be mildly stunned by these blasts, if even inconvenienced at all. 5) “There’s… There’s just two of them Azaiwa. And you guys can climb up the building.
They pose pretty much no threat, if they try to run to target innocent people you can just immobilize them from a distance with your scarves.
I’m starting to think McBee did not thought this through.”- If this was all of the drones he had to work with, sure. But unfortunately for Koichi’s side, it seems he brought enough to keep every potential hero interference tied up at once whilst he makes a beeline for the hospital. 6) “Koichi please tell me that you’re trying to hit them with something strong rather than just using “non-lethal” shots”-Still human-shaped, so the mental block against killing people is in place, just in case they’re actually ‘alive’ in there.  7) “Well, maybe if you didn’t used this weak-ass pellets and instead actually shot him with your real power then you could prevent them”- They can’t suicide bomb with a hole through the head!....or maybe they still can, since it’s not really them pulling the trigger. Experimentation is required for a more precise analysis. 8) “Oh thank you Aizawa, finally doing something rational.
They are gonna pull some bullshit about how this is not gonna work, right?”- Well, no it works alright….but Aizawa’s got a visualisation limit on the amount of moving exploding targets he can keep locked down, especially since more of them seem to be spawning from the very shadows themselves. 9) “OH? YOUR QUIRK ACTUALLY WORKED? OH MY GOD THAT IS SURPRISING
I WAS SURE THAT BOMBER CELL BULLSHIT WOULD BE SOME ASS-PULL TO AVOID AIZAWA SOLVING EVERYTHING
ALRIGHT, SO McBEE McFUCKED REAL TIME COMPLETELY BY ACCIDENT.”- Well, Aizawa can stop the explosion from happening until he’s safely outside the blast radius, but that means he still has to be occupied with safely detonating each Drone one by one on the streets away from people, leaving Nomura free to make his direct strike on the hospital. Nomura definitely didn’t have Aizawa’s counter in mind when deploying the Drones, but there’s enough flexibility in the situation to keep them viable as a distraction whilst he achieves his real goal. 10) “Oh okay so there’s more of them it seems
a whole lot
McBee how many of those fucking things did AfO gave you to do this shit?”- Probably enough that he wouldn’t be able to fuck things up due to lack of disposable minions to throw at the problem. Although, this is taking into account Nomura’s competence thus far… 11) “alright guys, show us what nomus can do
and I don’t mean talking, expressing delight in causing pain and coming up with combat strategies. Because there’s definitely no way something like that would be possible, right? (: “- Not for another few years, though these drones do be beating the High-Ends out on styling fashion choices at least. 12) “Aizawa don’t start talking about your life, this is the sort of thing someone about to die would start blabbing about. We need to keep the timeline stable, don’t tempt fate.”- Aizawa’s guaranteed to die at a later time against Tomura, so for this fight, he can tempt fate and boggie-dance back and forth over the line of life and death, it won’t affect him none. 13) “OH WE HAVEN’T SEEN THOSE STUDENTS, I SO WANTED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM
THERE’S A TURTLEMAN, A MINER ONE, SOMEONE WEARING A FEDORA ON THE BACK, ON THE RIGHT IT SEEMS LIKE KIRBY AFTER HE ATE SOMEONE”- At least one of these guys look like a pokemon evolution, and now I’m wondering hiw many hero team-ups formed from high-school classmates realising their powers worked well in tandem together? Like, Pokemon trainers aren’t known for their fighting skills directly, but as support options for their pokemons, they’re unparalleled. 14) “AIZAWA JUST TOLD McBEE HIS LACKEYS AIN’T SHIT
BEAUTIFUL
McBEE GOT McFUCKED ONCE AGAIN.”- These guys are literally disposable cannon fodder, so none of them will be a stand-out fighter. The real star of the show is making his move in the long shadows they cast though…. 15) “Oh, now you need his help, right Aizawa? Noooow he isn’t a villain under arrest, huh? Yeah, I deeeeeefinitely didn’t saw that one coming…”- Technically, he’s still under arrest. They’re just trusting him to run over to the police and hand himself into custody whilst they’re tied down with hero duties. It’d be nice if he also filled in the paperwork for them while he’s at it.
16) “But at least I’m once again curious to see how things are gonna unfold, even if that laughable fake-out with the heroes dying was laughable. My god man. You know, if they were original heroes exclusive to Vigilantes I could be at least worried that something could happen to them, but c'mon man, Tensei? really? It’s like trying to make us worry that Phelps is gonna die. which you already did before now that think about it…”- With Tanuma down and in a coma, there’s sadly no disposable police officers Nomura can wreak on his way to Pop, which means her safety is guaranteed so long as Phelps keeps himself between her and her faceless assassin. If he manages to lure Phelps away though…. @thelreads

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 100, Replies Part 1
1) “And today was…. Ah, right, Vigilantes. And look at that number! 100 chapters! my oh my, felt much, MUCH, longer than that, that’s for sure. “- Not so long to the finish line now…
2) “oh yeah, because they definitely don’t stand out alright
fine, I suppose that they can pass unnoticed considering that we are focusing on the fact that people are too comfortable due to hero society blah blah blah that doesn’t change the fact they aren’t subtle when causing chaos. How are you expecting people to feel divided and isolated if they are seeing the person causing the chaos and how it doesn’t even look human?”- I guess in the low lighting they assume they couldn’t make out too much of their “facial features” or assumed they wore face-obscuring equipment like balaclavas. Still, it might have been more effective to give the anonymous troops access to Nomura’s own face-shifting ability, especially since they also share the bomber parasite cells, just to sell the sense of division more.
3) “McBee your tulpa is tempting fate right at the start of the chapter, I’m not even going to blame you when All Might does show up to ruin the fun.”- Technically, if it’s part of his own mind, doesn’t that mean that it’s still Nomura tempting fate indirectly?
4) “Hey I want to see the giraffe person on the back! C'mon Furuhashi, you gave us thomas the tank engine but you’re not even going to show a simple furry?”- “checks out Mirko”. I think Horokoshi’s pulling double-duty on that front, and doing a fine job of it too.
5) “OH MY GOD EDGE KITE
C'MON I WANTED TO SEE MORE OF THAT, THAT’S SO ABSURD I LOVED IT”- An actual ninja tool for infiltration, though I guess it took some aid from Jeanest to pull off with his fibre master powers giving it a boost and a grounding line. 6) “My god man, the heroes are really falling into hard times if they weren’t even given a simple table to put their map on, and have to dramatically crouch down to make their plans
This absolutely hurts my knees just from watching”- Gonna need to do some more squats to keep the knees in line, stop them complaining.
youtube
7) “Those damn millennials, don’t know how to act without power and internet. Back in my day if we had to call the emergency we just sent a smoke signal after hunting some mammoths.”- True, but with light pollution in a darkened night-time area, would anybody be able to see the smoke from a better-lit section of the city? Ironically, smoke is easier to make out when backlit by light. 8) “Yeah I mean, this situation is far from dire when we have a human missile that can zapt out of here and call for help in less than two minutes.”- True, but a lot can go down in less than two minutes. It’s all a matter of who moves first, and how fast the other side respond. 9) “Edge, we saw you being used a fucking kite, drop the chuunibyou attitude, there’s absolutely no way we ever will take it serious”- I dunno, Tokoyami would be all over that stuff like a pigeon at feeding time…oh, wait. 10) “Oh hey Koichi, nice to see you here. Now piss off, the grown ups are working and they still haven’t forgotten you made them circle around town the whole day long”- He tried, but Aizawa’s here to make him apologise to the nice heroes he made fools of in public, running around and evading them all day and all night. He’s trying to teach Koichi that with great skills, comes great accountability. 11) “oh my god- alright, points for koichi for actually doing what I told him to do, even if it failed miserably.”-  Koichi tried to peace out, but Aizawa came here for war. 12) “…
Yeah Aizawa, sure… Absolutely sure of that… I won’t give five minutes before you have him fighting villains.”- To be fair, with the bombers attacking everybody at once, Koichi would have been mobbed with Anonymous drones regardless of where he went. 13) “Okay now that one I’d love to see Aizawa. I am not sure you have authority to do that as a hero, haven’t you seen what happened to Captain Celebrity when he used a bit too much force?”- And later in life, Aizawa would wind up mentoring a kid who’s so helpful, he breaks his own legs to spare Aizawa the effort! 14) “Yeah, thought so. You fucking tsundere.the ADHD is strong, they didn’t got two blocks away before getting sidetracked, I feel seen.”- Being a hero is merely an example of picking up every single sidequest in a videogame before you progress the main plot. Explains how All Might’s so damm OP actually, he power-grinded even the most obscure quests to reap all those hero points and put them into strength.
15) “Oh it’s McBee talking again? I hope so, because it’s funny to see him realizing that anon hate in the inbox is one of the least efficient ways of causing discord.”- Nomura realised he needed his hate statements to carry more “oomph” and figured the best way was to prepare an explosive delivery system, guaranteed to blow you away! @thelreads

Thelreads, MHA 289, Replies Part 2
1) “Yep, just as bad as I would expect.”- Uraraka’s never once considered using her Quirk in a lethal manner, and is horrified it was done using her power, but from Toga’s perspective, it was Uraraka’s power and the connection between them that saved her that time, which is another reason she’s speaking to her now, wanting confirmation that it wasn’t just a “mistake” and all being in her head.
2) “URARAKA USED HER HOOKS, BUT SHE AIMED STRAIGHT AT TOGA, LIKE, SHE DID REALLY TRY TO STAB HER AFTER HEARING THAT
HOLY SHIT MAN
I MEAN, OKAY I UNDERSTAND, BUT I WASN’T EXPECTING A REACTION LIKE THAT FROM URARAKA OF ALL PEOPLE”- It is possible to wrap somebody up in the lines, but whilst Toga’s equipment is normally used for the intent of stabbing and draining blood, here, she only uses them to retaliate in kind after Uraraka attacked her in anger when she was bearing her heart out to her- badly, but still. 3) “OH NO NOT THE FLATSCREEN HOW ARE WE GONNA WATCH [insert popular tv series here]NOW?”- Cracks in the screen dividing the image, like the divide that grows ever deeper between these two girls over the misunderstanding. 4) “Uraraka just doesn’t understand what Toga is trying to get at, but we do. She is trying to get uraraka to understand her, to see who she is, to see her as person.
This is a desperate attempt from Toga to reveal who she is in the hopes that one hero will see her as something besides a monster.
And it’s not working.”- At her lowest, it was Uraraka’s power that saved her. Now, at her lowest, she turns to the girl herself for aid….and it doesn’t work out, convincing her the only sanctuary in this world rests with the league – what’s left of it, anyway. 5) “OH MY GOD TOGA THIS SCENE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SAD BUT I’M LAUGHING AT YOU RUNNING LIKE A KINDERGARTEN THAT JUST STOLE ANOTHER KID’S TOY”- A taste perhaps, of what their relationship could have been like if they’d grown up meeting each other before becoming a hero or a villain. 6) “OH OKAY BACK TO THE FUCKING HEARTBREAK I SUPPOSE THANK YOU HORIKOSHI FOR LETTING ME LAUGH FOR FIVE SECONDS BEFORE STABBING ME ON THE GUT AGAIN”- Toga tries to relate to Uraraka by bringing up something she also values just as much, but fails again to understand that she’s not explained to Uraraka that he’s dead and the connection they shared is gone, whereas Uraraka and Izuku’s is still intact. 7) “OH MY GOD SHE’S BITING IT BECAUSE THAT’S HOW SHE EXPRESSES LOVE HORIKOSHI PLEASE CAN YOU LET ME CATCH MY BREATH BEFORE ANOTHER BLOW?”- Getting a taste of the loving and stable relationship that she so craves, but can just never seem to get right. If she’d ever had a similar token from that kid who she first stabbed, I bet she’d have kept it on her all this time. 8) “Also, good for you, Elsa, but those feelings refuse to be shut down. They’ll strike when you least expect.”- Uraraka means she’s shut down the romantic feelings and attraction to Izuku in order to be a more effective hero who can support him, not that she’s gotten rid of them for good.  It stops her being an ineffective love interest ham stung by her emotions at crucial moments, as has been done in other manga. Yet ironically, it’s precisely those feelings that would have made her an effective hero to Toga here, able to relate to her somewhat and show that she’s not alone 9) “Oh okay, Toga seems to have like that particular point, I have a feeling she took that on a positive note, and I can kind see why, from what we’ve seen of her backstory she also repressed her feelings for a long time, before they burst forth and everything spiraled out of control.”- Toga thinks that Uraraka hates having to repress her true self, where in actuality, Uraraka would hate herself for being ineffective because of those same feelings in a crisis, unable to focus on saving people if she thinks/knows Izuku’s in danger. It’s born in part from Nighteye’s death during the Hassaki raid and feeling she maybe could have done more to help him, even if her emotions didn’t really impede her back then. 10) “Oh my god toga is so desperate trying to get Uraraka to understand but it just
doesn’t work
no matter what
they are talking about different things, they are worrying about different things”- Toga isn’t even wrong here really. Uraraka not facing her true emotions down and reconciling them with Izuku means they’re at risk of gradually growing underneath that repression, potentially resulting in another outburst when she can least afford it. But here and now, Uraraka’s feeling haven’t gotten that far yet, and she’s focused on the present chaos, rather than seeking a compromise with Toga that could lead to a happier future for her. In a way, this fight is a microcosm of the larger conflict between heroes and Villains, and how failure to communicate only deepens the conflicts and the escalation between both sides. 11) “I do agree with you Uraraka, but the thing that you don’t understand, that Toga was trying to make you understand, is that she is not doing it out of evil. She’s doing it because it’s how she expresses her love. That’s what makes it worse, she doesn’t want to cause pain, she wants to share her feelings, but the way she does it is completely incompatible with others
Toga needs to be stopped, that there is no doubt, and I’m sure you’re gonna do that, but I hope that when the time comes, you at least understand who she is.”- Toga gets battered by Uraraka’s satelites, because of how chaotic they are in the cramped space, but it also represents the final rejection of Uraraka getting through her naive hopes and directly hurting her with the harsh truth of the inevitability of them coming to blows, no matter how much Toga wishes it would be otherwise. 12) “SHE WAS FUCKING CRYING HORIKOSHI WHY YOU DO THAT TO ME YOU BASTARD”- And of course, it’s only when Toga gives up on the possibility of them understanding each other that Uraraka finally realises there was more to her words than her being a villain, or trying to taunt her like she thought she was. It’s only once it’s too late for reconciliation that the other side realises what they let slip through their fingers. 13) “Oh Toga is going back to them? that’s surprising, considering who’s there right now, but I suppose that she doesn’t blame Dabi the same way that we do. She does seem to be hurt about him not caring that much, but she definitely doesn’t blame him.
And, meanwhile, I feel like Uraraka has finally understood Toga, even if it was too little too late”- She really has nothing else, no other source of support or comfort from her pain, no matter how off-put she is about Dabi’s flippancy towards the loss of twice. 14) “AND THERE HE IS, RIGHT ON TIME
THANK YOU FOR THE HEADS-UP IDA, WE WOULD NEVER KNOW HE WAS ON ITS WAY”- The Rock, the Hard Place, and the poor saps stuck in between both. 15) “THE CARDS ARE STACKED, ALL THE MAJOR PLAYERS ARE HERE AND READY.THE GAME IS ABOUT TO BEGIN”- Not everybody will be walking away from this. Can you guess who’ll be left afterwards?
16) “There’s a lot to talk here. Mostly about Toga’s failed attempt to connect to a person she feel could understand her and realizing that no matter what she’ll always be seen as a monster no matter how much she tries to be understood.”- And the fact that she’s proved wrong about that only after she’d truly given up hope. Oh Cruel irony, you bite deep… @thelreads
