UPDATE:

I have now officially rewatched everything with Maul—Phantom Menace, Clone Wars, and Rebels—and, everything through Clone Wars will be canon for my Maul.

Where Rebels is concerned, until the last episode of his arc, it will not be within my main verse timeline for Maul, but I will acknowledge it as an AU. The last episode, however, I have every intention of ignoring as I disagree with the way it goes. I may put my thoughts down as to an alternate version, but it will not be true to that last episode.

Maul is a survivor and he has always been so. It is more deeply engrained in his nature even than his hatred of Kenobi. What’s more, so much as he hates Kenobi, once he realizes there is a path, even still, to exact revenge upon the Emperor, he wants to see it come to fruition himself.

Sidious killed his brother and his mother and his people. Whatever his issues with Kenobi—and they are plentiful and deep—the Emperor took EVERYTHING from him and he will get revenge for him and for his people.
