AU where Percy and Annabeth are professional sports players and they have this huge rivalry and are always trying to one up each other.

You’re either Team Jackson or Team Chase no in between.

You sometimes get the occasional “oh they would be cute together” person who knows nothing of sports but they are immediately shut down by actual fans

Everyone is absolutely convinced Percy and Annabeth hate each other because Jackson and Chase are always at it whenever they play, roasting, embarrassing, pranking, annoying each other, etc

On a completely ~unrelated~ note (wink wink), one night on a talk show, the host asks Percy how he feels about all the fangirls that constantly drool over him (because let’s be honest this is PERCY we’re talking about) and he casually replies with “lol im taken tho”

The internet explodes.

Everyone is trying to find out who the lucky girl is and in every interview people ask Annabeth if she knows who it is, which she replies with “I really wish Jackson just shut his idiotic mouth for once in his life and didn’t reveal that, I’m sick of always getting this question. But if it will finally calm you down, yes. I do know her. She’s cool.” With a smirk at the end

The hype still doesn’t die down with all the theories flying around left and right on who the mystery girl is, and even fans claiming to be her

Percy immediately shuts them up with comments or replies like “Oh then who’s the girl snuggling next to me right now, I wonder?”

He also keeps everyone updated on his twitter like “guys my girl can’t bake cookies for shit but I love her she’s so precious” or “I just convinced her to watch Finding Nemo for movie night instead of Titanic. Guess who’s probably not getting laid tonight”

And that is when a certain hardcore Annabeth Chase stan remembers a super old interview when Chase was just getting started on her career where she answered “I dunno, probably Titanic or something” for the question “What would be your go to for movie night?”

Most people think it’s a coincidence because of the whole Jackson-Chase rivalry thing, but the long sunk cursed ship called “percabeth” starts to set sail again

At first, it’s a joke. Fans that think shipping two random people together is a personality write fanfics of it

Then, it slowly evolves and more people start getting behind it. Not as a “Oh I KNOW they’re real” thing, but more as a “Top 10 Couples We Wish Were Real” on WatchMojo type thing

Interviewers and start asking about how the two feel about the ship and if it has any affect on Percy and his still anonymous girlfriend’s relationship

The two always end up bursting into laughter at these questions (which turns into a “stop copying me” “YOU stop copying me” match) while their teammates have no idea how to respond

One day, completely randomly, Percy posts a photo on his Instagram

Its one picture of a girl’s hand holding his, the most beautiful engagement ring on her finger, with the caption “Yo Jason where’s my 50 bucks.”

The entire internet explodes part 2.

People are inspecting every inch of the picture to see if they can somehow match the hand with literally anyone

Absolutely everyone is talking about it. #MysteryMrsJackson is trending on every social media base

And finally, Percy and Annabeth appear together on a show after going MIA for a while. The convo went someway or another as followed:

Host: Please welcome Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase! How are you two today?

Percy: Doin good, doin good, keepin it lit :)

Annabeth: pls shut up for 2 seconds literally how are you engaged—

Host: Ahaha yes, about that, your entire team just kind of disappeared after the engagement post! This is the first time you’re making an appearance in a while! Where were you? We missed you guys! We may or may not have assumed you all died or got abducted; there are a couple theories. Are you all officially back now?

Percy: Indeed we are. We needed some time away for a while because we were trying to decide whether or not to announce something

Host: Oh? And what would that be about?

Percy: It would be about an update on the love of my life

Host: Ohoho yes, how is the Mrs? And what’s the big announcement? Oh I’m just exploding with questions!

Percy: For starters, she’s doing good last I checked, right Beth?

Annabeth: She’s doing good yeah... you know... considering

Host: Considering? Considering what?

Percy: Let’s just say you all might see a mini Jackson in the future

Everyone was quiet for a second.

Cue another round of internet explosion and screaming fans

Host: Pregnant! Wow I can’t believe it! Congratulations Percy! Wait... but does this mean we might not be seeing you in the next few seasons? Or ever?

Percy: God no, I can’t imagine never playing again. I might miss a couple of games here and there but Percy is here to stay, at least for now

Host: Oh good, well at least we’ll have our Miss Chase ruling out there to keep our minds off missing Percy too much

Annabeth: Actually... two things about that I’d like to correct. First, I regret to inform you all that I’ll be missing in action even more than Percy

Host: Oh no... could I ask why?

Annabeth: I was just getting to that. The second thing, it’s not Miss Chase anymore.

She put one hand over her stomach and held out the other, showing the crowd and the cameras the most envied ring of the year resting right there on her fourth finger.

She’s at every meet with a notebook and spreadsheet taking down notes on his times and the competition, tracking his progress. Knowledge and research is her love language, so she reads books and stats on the history of swimming and the world’s best swimmers. She keeps a meticulously organized binder with any pictures, newspaper clippings, articles, as well as her own notes, for every single one of his meets. Seeing her get so passionate about something just because he’s involved in it makes Percy feel so loved and happy, because he knows this is how children of Athena show their love

ok but throughout the series they always reference famous people as being children of the gods (musicians, war veterans, athletes etc) so I’m confused on why it isn’t basically canon that Percy would become an Olympic swimmer?

Percy texts in the most chaotic way with all lower case letters, spelling errors, every abbreviation in the book plus more that don’t make sense, absolutely no punctuation (unless it’s a smiley face) and overall makes zero sense in his messages.

Annabeth speaks Percy so she’s the only person who can actually interpret the texts Percy sends, and then responds in the exact opposite way with perfect grammar, spelling and clear expression, always spelling out every word and never abbreviating
