If only the manga volumes were available on amazon

have you seen wandering son? its about a bunch of trans kids figuring out their genders etc, its really pastel and pretty and definitely one of the best animes ive ever seen. if you havent i highly recommend it!!

I don’t like the Wandering Son anime very well, but that’s largely due to my love for the manga. The manga is more in depth and very well written (until the end) and it was there when I needed trans positivity most in my life. The anime chooses to begin in such a very weird place, it skips the first four volumes or so of the manga, where lots of important things take place that influence these kids and their interactions with each other. There’s unexplained strains on relationships in the anime, which you picked up simple enough due to context clues, but it overall misses what happened, why it happened, and how it affected everyone involved. Shu and Takatsuki have very important character building in those parts and I feel they were so very important to them as characters/people that such shouldn’t be neglected.

The anime is pretty as hell, I think it was well done, but I think it’s choice to be so short, to be “when” it was honestly stiffed us. I will fight for the anime like no other, but I will never not be mildly unnerved that so much was considered not worth being animated. 

Also, I will note that Wandering Son is far from being perfect. It’s fucking great, don’t get me wrong. But there’s a lot of subtle things in it that don’t help trans people on the whole explaining ourselves. And, I feel the ending was absolute cowardice in just letting trans people be trans. Takatsuki didn’t spend 14 volumes battling with dysphoric like symptoms to be reduced to being a “confused” girl. 

And, Anna’s character development to accepting Shu as a crossdressing old geezer is supposed to be presenting some like “d’aw” kind of shit, but ultimately it just reinforces that trans women are only women if they get surgery/hrt. Like, the scene would have infinitely benefited if she just made a comment of “no matter how the world views Shu, I know she’s a girl” instead. 

But, that said, Wandering Son is a damn masterpiece. It’s great. Anime is great, but the manga contains something so much better and amazing. If you haven’t busted open the beautiful hardback manga, you should. It’s just so beautiful.

So I randomly decided to play Power Rangers for the Sega Genesis just now... I used to play this game all the time. But upon playing I came to a startling conclusion... everyone but the pink ranger... is the red ranger! Look at the helmets. They are all just the red ranger recoloured! How lazy can you get?
