i dunno something about this hellsite is just very... white. like, when i think of tumblr collectively it's very white people
Like the music taste. Collectively, a lot of distaste for rap and blues and jazz. Lotta fandom racism. There's not a lot about making queer poc visible compared to all the stuff about white queers. Black have literally gotten banned for being black and being against oppressing black people.
and i know a lot of poc on here. i follow them. we interact. but that's not what im talking about. i dont know how to explain further. cope.

castle in the sky is the obvious comparison and what ive thought about the most bc it has a similar setup (only 4 eps into turn a but yknow) wrt the Ancient Civilization being much more technologically advanced. i am thinking about how laputa is more set as this potentially wondrous/beautiful thing (the robot gardener, the animals that live there and nowhere else in the film) that just happens to have this literal underbelly of destruction and mass carnage. and in turn A the literal only things we have left from the previous age are mobile suits, which are explicitly tools of war and destruction, and are not really allowed to occupy the role of anything else. even the vicinity coming of age ceremony is based off of mobile suits / tied to war in that way, and the gundam literally moves on its own at first, compared to how the technology of laputa is kind of set up as a more neutral thing. i dont know enough about japanese history to really go too much farther, but they sure do both feel very in conversation with mass violence, but turn A feels much more Actually condemning of it
theres also probably something with the protagonists of gundam in general and ghibli girls and the Gender of it all but i need to think more about that lol
