I think my favourite thing about Paige is, in season one, we know her as this passive office worker who just up and finds the courage to help the people who kidnapped her after she witnesses a very law-backed atrocity. And you think how brave and/or insane it is of her, to go from smiling along with a human sacrifice to impersonating a police officer!
And then you learn her dad's an accomplished and previously convicted con man. If anything she probably could've impersonated a cop better if she wasn't so rusty.

I’ve been relistening to the silt verses from the beginning and have been fiddling around with a design for Carpenter.
This would be pre-series for sure…

something something about anything that grows in Paige's dad's farm being twisted and not what they expected, about how Dennis said gods need soil and seed, about expectations unmet in both Paige's and Hayward's childhood, about how the three of them has grown a god in Paige's dad's farm-

godbitten/god-bitten is such a good word i owe the silt verses everything for that one. even out of context there's something so satisfyingly right about it, like fitting two pieces of a puzzle together. the idea of calling something to you with your faith, or your fear, or your desires, or your torments, and allowing it to sink its teeth into you, or else being caught and clipped in the snap of its hungry jaws as you recoil from it. being partially devoured; tasted and marked by something that can only interact with you by burning itself into you and eating away a piece of you in the process.

the tsv crew are generally just really really good at coming up with names for people, places and things that subtly convey the ideas and themes they're intended to evoke, but "the parish of tide and flesh" stands out to me specifically because of the body horror emphasis that tacking "and flesh" onto the words used to represent the core beliefs and values of the group carries. the implication that flesh is as malleable and changeable as the tides; that one should aspire to be reshaped in their image. that the price of admission and the reward are one and the same - flesh. the skin off your back or another's. the mouth devouring and the mouth returning, chewed-up and god-bitten and something entirely new in all its horrible glory.
