Following the presentation students were provided information on a special Exoplanet Design Contest inspired by the work of #DanielArsham and the Studio at #NASAJetPropulsionLaboratory The following week, students participated in an after-school workshop to help develop their design projects and to learn about specific techniques to integrate scientific data into their artwork. • Judges for the “Time and Space” Exoplanet Design Contest included officials from #BrandedArts #DrMayaAngelouCommunityHighSchool #NASAJPL and #DanielArshamStudio • The 3 contest winners were invited on-stage to receive special NASA and Daniel Arsham prizes and deliver brief presentations on their exoplanet designs for an audience of over 300 fellow students, family members and friends. Congrats to our contest winners! My mom had over 200 plants and she often times spoke to them. It was her form of meditation. It inspired me greatly as a youth. I realized that like a plant, a community needs water, attention, and love in order to grow. A young mind is a seed that must be watered and nurtured in order to grow strong and healthy. In this mural, my home is transported into a planter pot, symbolizing the growth that I have gone through as a young man and working artist in this community. As the plants grow, so do I. The cactus symbolizes strength and toughness through all adversity. “We Are All Immigrants” Completed project by @AxelVoid for #MayaAngelouMuralFestival 📷 @wiseknave and #AxelVoid • “It is based off a photo I took walking around the neighborhood a few days before starting the wall. I was walking around looking for ideas to paint and passed by a Mexican America family, cooking in their front yard. The concept of this wall is very similar to this feeling of simplicity in every day life. Our palpable and quotidian truth. The people we live and spend time with and the interaction between us. During my time at the school I was able to give a mural workshop on the subject of “Home”. Together with @l.e.other teaching over 40 kids. Despite our different backgrounds and age gaps, this commonality became very obvious.
