La casa en el mar más azul
Tumblr media

The Atlas Six
Tumblr media
Took me a while to finish this book because uni has been crazy, that being said, I really enjoyed it. I'm a fan of character-driven stories and dark academia, so this may not come as a surprise.
There's no plot, just vibes. Well, maybe there's some plot, six of the most talented magicians are recluted to join the secret Alexandrian society, the catch? Only five of them will join. We follow Libby and NIco, who share a specialty in physics; Tristan, who can see what no one else can; Parisa, the most beautiful woman in the world who also happends to be able to read minds; Reina, a naturalist who hates her powers; and Callum, a charming man that can feel and control other people's emotions.
The characters are super interesting to follow, their interactions always kept you on the edge of your seat and the last few chapters came with a shocking revelation.
The author makes you follow along with a very delicate string and while it may seem like nothing's happening, she guides you with it until you can finally see what she has been creating all along. The descriptions and the writing style are beutiful, the magic system is enticing, every thing I read about how each of them used their magic made me feel like I was using it myself.
I am excited to read the second book, there's still many things to resolve.

Cadáver Exquisito
Tumblr media

Our Wives Under The Sea
Tumblr media
It was okay. Pretty slow, honestly I fell asleep a ton of times reading it, but it was okay, kinda predictable, I would've liked more scenes of the submarine.
Maybe I'm biased but it wasn't as disturbing as people described it, I am really used to latin american magic realism and this kinda feels like it tries to be that.

If we were villains
Tumblr media
Ah yes, I do have a lot to say about this book. I LOVED it, the way it's written, how it always has you at the edge of the seat, ugh, it's wonderful. You feel truly into the story with Oliver, following his reasoning. Here he explains us what actually happened before he went to jail for murder.
I loved the experimental structure, the references, how pretentious they were and how I still cared for them. I figured out the plot twist, but I still loved it a lot, I think that's what a plot twist should do. I loved how they started to lose themselves little by little, it feels as if we're also growing mad alongside them, we're going down together.
Also how she used the play structure in the book, genius. I like when writers are kinda experimental with their writing, in things like structure, language and such, it makes for a great time.

Ariadne
Tumblr media
It is a very beautifully written story, maybe a bit too quick paced for my liking, but I liked the dual POV. I didn’t know the myth of Ariadne completely, so it was very nice to get to know it this way, I like that they went with this version rather than the other one.
Overall if you’re in a green retelling roll, I do recommend it, it is a bit shorter than I would’ve liked, but it was still very enjoyable and I liked the characterization of Ariadne and her sister.

Crying in H Mart
Tumblr media
This is a memoir of Michelle Zauner as she walks us through her very complicated and loving relationship with her mom, tying it with food and her own sense of identity.
This book made me sob, there’s something very beautiful and complex about mother-daughter relationships and this book portrays it to perfection, of course, because it’s her own experience.
Her writing style is vivid and I felt like I was living everything alongside her, it’s a very beautiful book with great descriptions, I recommend it but you will cry.

Bringing down the duke
Tumblr media
Just a fun easy read, our protagonist is a suffragist that starts a weird friendship with the duke that could make or break her cause. She’s very smart and she’s just trying her best. It’s a romance novel with the added historical factor of the suffragists which is very nice. The duke is a very interesting character as well, but the suffragists are the real protagonists.

My dark Vanessa
Tumblr media
Oooff, okay, this book follows Vanessa and her relationship with her professor in high school. It’s a very raw book and I think it portrays trauma wonderfully, when one of her fellow classmates steps up and calls her professor an abuser, Vanessa is called to revaluate everything she thought she knew.
She wanted him, didn’t she? She always made the fist move, right? Nothing happened without her consent, or did it? It’s very raw and uncomfortable to watch her as an adult and as teenager as we can observe how her professor grooms her like an expert, so much so she believes everything was her idea, but even in her teenage years we catch glimpses of the reality, when she’s disgusted or hating the man.
It’s a very dark and uncomfortable book and I couldn’t put it down, it’s an amazing read but if you decide to pick it please do check the trigger warnings as it deals with heavy topics.

I’m glad my mom died
Tumblr media
This memoir follows Jennette McCurdy’s life and her very very complicated relationship with her mom, food and fame.
It’s a very raw book, but also very witty and funny at times, I don’t know how she managed that. She talks us through her very fucked up experiences in the acting industry and her personal life, it is honestly a very impactful story, as a person that struggles with food some things were painfully relatable.
It’s a great memoir and even if you read it just to know the gossip, you should read it because it talks about very important taboo topics that need to be discussed, also her writing style is amazing, I felt as if I was in a coffee shop having deep conversations with a friend, definitely worth the read.

Under the whispering door
Tumblr media
This book = being curled up in a cozy blanket with a cup of tea.
When our protagonist dies, he finds himself in a strange tea shop, a reaper that looks like a normal girl, the ghost of old man, a dog, and a very handsome guy that claims is gonna guide him to the afterlife.
It’s a very nice book, an interesting take on life after death and a prime example of found family, one of my favorite tropes. TJ Klune is a great writer that makes me feel loved and warm inside, please read this book if you’re mourning, it will help you, I promise.
There’s only so much I can say without spoiling it, but it was so so so nice and Ioved visiting this world and this view of death is very cozy, funnily enough, even the dark parts. Actually thinking of re-reading it.

Circe
Tumblr media
I dare to say this book is better than The Song of Achilles, oof, Circe is a very complicated character and I loved to watch her grow up and continue her life.
Madeline Miller never disappoints and this book is a clear example of that. Her writing is wonderful as usual, her way of conveying things and characters is great, Circe is very relatable despite being a goddess and I always wanted to know more even though I was familiar with the myth, I always wanted to know more.
I loved how she connected different myths in the book and kept me always captivated, wondering what will happen next, I felt as if i had grown up with Circe. Beautiful book.

Exciting times
Tumblr media
The exciting times were not exciting, a very dull book, it’s interesting only when it deals with identity, but not much with the relationships, I think they were very dull, not even real people are that dull. It was meh, I don’t even remember anything that happens.

Solitaire
Tumblr media
Oh Tori Spring and Michael Holden, they have my whole 2014 awkward tumblr heart. I have felt like both of them at some point, though Michael, ugh, he just gets me.
It's very sad and uplifting at the same time, it's like how I felt when I was 15, I have no other way to express it, it's very interesting as the concept of solitaire is a blog that kinda tries to catch Tori's eye and we try to find out who they are. A mystery plus some existencial dread, what's not to like?
