The first few days spent at Jace's were in a comforting silence. He didn't need to speak as Jace already knew. Yet, even if he wanted to, each word would die in his throat, choking him even more.

“You murdered my beloved, right before my eyes!”
“…That was you, wasn’t it?”
To Syr Ginger’s shock, the fierce huntsman Garruk met her claim not with anger or denial, but with a mere somber nod. The hulking man knelt down, only barely bringing him to Ginger’s eye level, despite the gingerbread knight riding her steed of the same atop a tall wooden table.
“No magic of mine can undo the hurt I’ve caused. Whatever punishment you deem necessary, I will not flinch.”
Garruk bowed his head, waiting nearly a minute for a blow to fall. When none came, he looked up to see Ginger glaring at him.
“This is no trick. I will not-”
“It’s not that.”
“Oh…?”
“When we…met, you were a monster. You and my love locked eyes. You saw him, and without remorse, you still…” Ginger’s breath hitched. “I tried to avenge him. But you survived.”
Garruk listened in silence, only moving to hang his head as Ginger described his deeds.
“I see you are changed now. And now you have remorse. And…I cannot bring myself to kill you in cold blood, not even in his name.”
“Not even to avenge his death?” Garruk’s voice was whisper-quiet.
“No. Now stand up.”
Garruk did as he was told, his mask only able to hide the top half of his guilty expression.
“He was not the only victim of your rampage, correct?”
“He was not.”
“Do you also grieve for the others you killed?”
“Every day.”
“Then you are torn, as I am.”
Garruk narrowed his eyes at Ginger. “As you are?” he echoed.
“I know I am made of dough, not flesh. He and I, we were made for each other, created. What, then, does that mean, for our love for each other?”
“I…do not know.”
“Nor do I. I only know that I was willing to kill for someone I knew for a matter of minutes.*” A pause. “I thank you for taking me seriously, despite my stature. You may go.”
Garruk nodded, but paused before leaving. He gave Ginger one last, unreadable look, then finally departed, leaving the gingerbread knight alone in the dining hall.

[I actually really appreciate that Syr Ginger’s tragedy is taken somewhat seriously, in her trailer anyways. Also, on a related note, if you haven’t already, go watch the Throne of Eldraine trailer! It’s awesome, and it features a cover of a Four Seasons song!]

“Is everyone ready? Okay, let’s go.”
With a signal from their angelic captain, the task force left their cars and started down the street, towards the towering skyscraper on the next block. They drew swords and arc spitters as they drew near, taking up positions on either side of the swinging double doors. The captain herself elected to hover above the squad, and shouted up at the building with a magically amplified voice:
“Mr. Stone! Give yourself up immmediately!”
“Go away, Jillard,” came the booming reply, seemingly from somewhere on the top floor. “I have paperwork to do.”
“You mean to make your workers do! Which brings us to the laundry list: you are under arrest for violation of labor laws, tax evasion, conspiracy to-”
Stone’s yawn earned an outraged growl from Jillard. She motioned down to her team to attack, but none of them moved, much to her frustration.
“What are you waiting for?” Jillard hissed, stopping the voice spell. “Go!”
A squad man shook his head up in response. “Sorry, ma’am, but I don’t think that’s a very good idea.”
“And why not?”
The squad man blinked. “Oh! Right! You just came out of the statue, sorry! See, Mr. Stone is…”
The groan of steel and the rumble of concrete drowned out the squad man’s explanation. Jillard turned towards the building, just in time to see it uproot itself from its foundation. The sprawling basement served as makeshift legs, and it used two connecting skybridges and the smaller, adjacent buildings to steady itself. On the roof of the main building, a stone helmeted face came to life, eyes glowing green as its face formed a condescending smirk.
“Would you care to read out the rest of that list?” Stone grinned.
“Er…maybe later.” Jillard landed on the sidewalk beside her men, and motioned for them to fall back. “I see your point. I’ll bring some more angels next time. And maybe a wrecking ball or two.”

[Imo they missed a golden opportunity to give Titan some flavor text referencing “too big to fail” or something.]

God, what a cool fucking pair of cards. Especially these versions, with Kev Walker's art. Black and White getting the exact same effect, because the death of all fits both divine grace and unknowable horror.
And then Mr. Walker nails the fact that they're the same but different, with not just the inverted colors, but the way that Wrath of God explodes outwards, while Damnation draws all in.

“No one cares that today is my birthday…”
“Happy birthday, Miss…uh…Carol!”
The spacesuit-clad janitor finished her current project - blasting a hostile alien with a laser - then looked over in surprise to the roller coaster rocketing past her. As the cars entered a multi-tiered loop, she saw one of the riders reaching up to wave to her. Moved by this blatant disregard for safety procedures, Carol’s eyes sparkled as she shouted a response:
“A-Aww, thank you! Oh, but how did you know…?”
“Your oversized name tag!” bellowed the guest, fighting to be heard over the roar of the roller coaster as it looped back around.
“Ah, right,” Carol chuckled, as she absentmindedly reached down to tap the aforementioned massive, sticker-shaped name tag on her spacesuit. “Well, again, thank you! That means so much!”
“Hey, I know what it’s like…!” This time, the rider was unable to finish his thoughts during the current loop, and waited to circle back before continuing. “My boss is cold too…!”
Carol watched the cars finish their loops and continue onto a straighter part of the track. There, she finally got a good look at the guest - a bald, unkempt man in a stitcher’s smock. Unfamiliar with the clothing but all too familiar with the expression of a disgruntled employee, Carol jovially waved back to him. “What’s your name?” she shouted.
“GARL!” roared the man, as his car disappeared around the corner of a model planet. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
“I’LL NEVER FORGET YOU, GARL!” Carol shouted after him, tears already forming in her eyes.

“Doral! You forgot to hook onto something!”
“Don’t need to! Ha-ha!”
“WHAT!”
Ignoring the shout of alarm from his fellow kor, Doral plummeted toward the valley floor far below him. On his way down, he passed by a small floating island and reached out towards it with his twin hooks. The tools found purchase in the cliff and slowed his descent enough to allow him to change course and aim for a small lake. He splashed down and disappeared beneath the water, which was fortunately deep enough to cushion his fall, and resurfaced with an exuberant shout.
“See? I told you!” Doral shouted skyward. “As soft a landing as you’ve ever seen! Are you coming?”
The other kor’s voice was barely audible from his perch, still in the sky: “No! Our map only has directions for the islands up here! Other way around, are you getting back up here?”
“Yes, all right, I’m coming!”
“Well great, that’s…How!” shouted the other kor.
“Oh, don’t worry. I’m almost certain there’s a grappling hook or something around here!”
“What!” came the incredulous response from above. “And how exactly can you tell?”
Doral pointed up with one of his hooks, at the intermediate island he had passed on his way down. “That island there caught my hooks! If it can do that, surely there’s a line or chain somewhere nearby I can use!”
“That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever-”
“Found one!”
“WHAT!”
Doral hefted a conveniently-placed grappling hook in his hand, complete with high strength wire. The lucky kor chuckled, imagining his friend’s outrage as he aimed his new tool at the middle island.
“See? I knew there was something around here!”
Again Doral’s hook found purchase on the middle island, and soon he was pulling himself up towards it. As he climbed, his friend’s irritated grumbling came into focus, prompting him to laugh once more.

[If I had a nickel for every time this year a video game led me down a “one-way” path with grapple points forming a way out, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice (Sea of Stars and Tunic btw)]

Thinking about Xenagos, but I'll put it under read more (also both Theros book spoilers!)
Thinking about how he was essentially the king of satyrs and eventually ascended as a God but still felt nothing
During most of the story, he fakes most of the positive emotions but mostly only genuinely feels irritation and annoyance, and I wonder if it's because he can't feel what the others feel in the revels
Tumblr media
Being a satyr that can't fully be into a revel has to feels ostracizing, everyone having fun and revels being the whole thing satyrs do (to the point that people from outside the valley come to join in) and you can't even loose yourself in them like the others, the satyrs also being known for being in good spirits and just generally being cheery folk, but what happens if you don't feel any of that? It has to feel awful, even if no one was actively excluding you from stuff, your brain sometimes does that for them.
Tumblr media
and we don't quite know what happened to make his spark awaken other than he described it as a moment of weakness, was it perhaps a want to be like the others that spiraled into a breakdown after realizing that he is just simply different and cant change it during the Bakkeia, or maybe something else? (I really wish we actually got info about this) was it something to do with hearing he was supposed to be a king, destined for something great but he can't even feel the euphoria like the other satyrs?
And now he's a part of that, part of euphoria they worship and he *still* can't feel it, he's the king of revels and he's still excluded from it all
And when he ascends into godhood it seems like he still cannot feel anything at all, despite ascending through a huge party and emotions probably being at an all time high he's *still* left out of it
Tumblr media
The only time he seems to feel (I think) is when he's being literally skewered by an arrow from a goddess that controls the valley he and all the other satyrs live in, which if he didn't use the belief system of Theros it would've killed him most likely
Tumblr media
((Which matches his colors of gruul, live fast die
Even faster apparently)
To add on, all the gods are made from belief from the mortals and such, and also seem to reflect their emotions on the domains the gods have, like Erebos and death for example
Erebos is gloomy and tyrannical, which lines up with the plane's thoughts about death
Xenagos becomes the God of revels, and perhaps its because he's still mortal, Elspeth sees an absence of emotions, I kinda wish we got a little bit on insight to what was happening with him during that time
I wonder if he had stayed a God longer if he'd feel the euphoria that the satyrs get from the revels or if he'd be forever numb to it all (a friend of mine described it like how Hera is a goddess of marriage, yet Zeus constantly cheats on her, it feels like a mockery)
I just find him interesting, he's a funky little satyr and I got attached :'3
