Despite the ongoing talks and progress made in Cairo for a potential ceasefire, people are still very cautious because they still have to deal with this intense bombing campaign that has been going on for the past 24 hours. There has been an intense surge in air attacks and artillery shelling of not only Rafah City, but the remaining eastern part of the Gaza Strip. We’re looking at at least three atrocities committed against displaced families in Rafah and other parts of the Gaza Strip. At least 43 people have been killed, and 26 of those who have been killed in overnight attacks and throughout the day happen to be from Rafah City. There are reports of people still stuck under the rubble. There is also the inability of civil defence crews and paramedics and volunteers to reach those who might have survived these attacks. It is increasingly becoming difficult to live in Rafah. One thing that the residents keep repeating here is that you can’t create a safe zone in a war zone.
-- "Rafah residents say can’t create safe zone in a war zone" by Hani Mahmoud for Al Jazeera, 29 Apr 2024 17:30 GMT

The goal is listed as $13k USD but Khaled said in the description that he only needs $7k to evacuate and he’s almost there!
HOWEVER, donations have stalled so I’m making this post with the hope that the people of Tumblr help Khaled reach his evacuation goal. I think raising $2,416 is manageable, so PLEASE reblog and/or share with anyone you know who has the means to donate if you can’t financially contribute yourself! Alternatively, tag popular blogs for extra reach if you know any

🚨EMERGENCY! PLEASE READ!🚨
Moataz @moatazart, Mariam, and baby Maria are set to make the dangerous journey from Gaza City in the north to Rafah in the south. From there, God willing, they will enter Egypt.
HOWEVER, the money they had allocated to procure shelter and food while in Egypt was utterly depleted by exploitative fees and hidden costs, which we break down in this post. Moataz speaks more on the situation in this post and on his own blog @moatazart, which we ask people to follow and boost. They have a fund going to raise the remaining money, but the fund only has a week and a half left before it closes! They are not even halfway to their goal!
Please share what you can with Moataz’s family so they can find safety and security in Egypt! They have no one in Egypt with whom they can stay and currently nowhere near enough money to secure shelter! After all they have survived, please don’t let this young family be left vulnerable! If they cannot procure food and shelter, they will be extremely vulnerable not only to the dangers of homelessness, but to groups and individuals who prey on refugees!
Safety for Gazan refugees does not end with leaving Gaza! If this campaign is not finished in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS, they will be homeless in Egypt! They are so close to a fresh start, please don’t let all the risks they are taking to find safety be for nothing!

🇵🇸 Amidst the rubble of his destroyed home, Ashraf Nafedth burns a book he once treasured—a guide to international law. He now sees it as a lie, failing to protect people like him. The unfair treatment of countries like Palestine by powerful nations like the US shatters his trust in these laws. His burning of the book symbolizes his loss of faith in international law's ability to keep him safe and reflects the struggles of many in similar situations.

Please remember Rafah as you talk about US protests for Palestine, the news I'm hearing from people there is nervewracking and it is bringing to mind the early days of the genocide. Please, please remember to focus on them.

Maybe some of you still remember Space Deer? I think that's why most of you ended up following me in the first place. About ten years ago... Time flies.
This is how I drew Space Deer back then.

When I came up with this character I was still a teen in art school. It was a struggle for me to write back then, I didn't know what to say, so I gave up. A lot has happened since and something about this character stuck with me, I always felt sad that I never really did anything with them. But now I'm ready to give this an honest shot!
My plan is to publish regularly for at least 1 year and see how it feels. If I have fun, and if people enjoy it - I'll probably keep going beyond that! My dream is to make a thousand strips.
I wanted to start with a bang, that's why I made this full-color, Sunday-style strip, inspired by Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes. The rest will be shorter black-and-white strips. It will take too much time to do everything full-color. Hope you understand..!

The student protests for Palestine have been an amazing show of solidarity and support and seeing thr way that so many young people are willing to stand up for their values is admirable when so many others stay silent. But this is all to say that we are entering a pattern of glorifying these white “martyrs” from the global west to put all of this effort and resources and media coverage into instead of the actual cause they are fighting for.
I saw the same thing happen with Aaron Bushnell, when his self immolation was being talked about more than the actual genocide in Gaza (which went against everything he said he was self immolating for in the first place).
And again this happened with the prisoner from the US who worked 136 hours just to be able to donate his $17 check to Palestine aid efforts. In response to this, people wanted to help him and ended up raising over $100,000 in a gofundme for him. This feels almost satirical, as every gofundme to help Gazans evacuate Palestine and get to safety has a goal of less than $100,000 and most of them are not even close to reaching it.
And now, there are more and more posts on how to get aid to the college student encampments, and the “urgency” of getting enough bail funds for the students who have been arrested during them. Talking about Palestine itself and getting resources to Palestine has almost been put on the back burner in favour of making all Palestine related news about college students in the United States.
It think it is valuable to recognise the selflessness and importance of these protests, and getting these students resources but what is MORE important, and what these people are truly fighting for, and protesting, and make a statement about is PALESTINE. We have unsurprisingly reached the point where there are people who care much more about the white people fighting for the cause from the comfort of living in the global west than they care about the Palestinians undergoing a genocide in Gaza. It’s become almost blatant racism, the way people begin to drop everything the second a white/usamerican person does something in regards to helping Palestine, but will not put the same effort into a Palestinian IN Gaza who is telling their story or asking for help. I respect anyone who has done absolutely anything to help Palestine, but I hope people are starting to see the pattern of how the media gravitates towards the “white saviour/perfect martyr” instead of the first hand accounts coming from those in Gaza.
Anyway FIND A GOFUNDME AND DONATE TO HELP FAMILIES IN GAZA ESCAPE GENOCIDE
