💭💭💭
Who knew a key component of the Swiftgron Reclamation Project would be Dianna confirming she was getting back and forth between London and NYC well before 2017?!?!
The Reputation TV implications…
Dancing With Our Hands Tied calling out 25 years of age and happening in the past… using past tense terms.
New Years Day calling out a distinct laugh…
So It Goes… being written/conceived (heh) in March 2015, during a time both women were minutes from eachother (Dianna was at a burlesque bar)…
End Game… EHC’s Ed Sheeran, A Team…
I Did Something Bad… Taylor really said “we’re in it now!”
Dress… the carrot being held over Dianna’s head

not to late stage Swiftgron too close to the sun… but I’m going to sit here and giggle to myself anyway. Taylor played treacherous tonight (a Swiftgron anthem imo) and Dianna did the thing she does where she makes a Spotify playlist with a single song, and in this case it was Our House. The lyrics of which are “staring at the fire for hours and hours while I listen to you play your love songs all night long for me” “fiery gems for you, only for you” and “our house is a very fine house with two cats in the yard.” I’m sure it’s nothing, but I think it’s fun. Especially because today is 4/13 aka 143, SWIFTGRON DAY okay I’ll crawl back into my little cave now

I wanted to break down Dianna’s insta post because it’s a goldmine of references. Dianna Agron, Troll Genius™️ came out to play. I want to start off with what I highlighted in blue. It might be a stretch, but Taylor also mentioned doing FaceTime check ins during her Sirius XM show. Granted, everyone is using FaceTime, but I thought it was a nice little parallel, whatever it means. Next up is pink. This is 100% a shout out to those of us on tumblr, reminiscing and discussing the Swiftgron days. I believe this is a reference to how she used to be on tumblr officially and is still on tumblr unofficially. In yellow/orange is where Dianna references us discovering her Spotify playlists under a pseudonym and then jokes that her playlists are now public and under her name. Finally in purple is where Dianna references some Taylor songs she probably inspired. Dancing with Our Hands Tied, Holy Ground, and of course we can’t forget the Daylight shining on her in the photo above. Honestly, there are probably even more references for us to find because Dianna but these are all the ones I know of.

Hope For the Flowers
On the 13th of November 2011, during the Speak Now Tour, Taylor wrote “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.” as that nights arm lyric.
I think it's a reference to "Hope for the Flowers", a book Dianna recommended once in an interview.
Tumblr media
She seems to have loved it enough to get a tattoo of the sketch she mentions.
Tumblr media
I bought the book and read it which I’ll summarize below. It gives me Cowboy Like Me energy, there’s a lot of the “wait” and “stay” themes that appear in later Swiftgron songs. I definitely think this is a book that they read together and used as a metaphor for their relationship and the pressures of the industry.
------------------------------------
Hope For the Flowers (A Book Report by Alex 😛)
It begins with a caterpillar named Stripe determined to climb a swarming pillar of other caterpillars, because he assumes if everyone else is doing it then something very important must be at the top. He makes friends with a caterpillar named Yellow along the way, but in order to keep climbing Stripe has to step on Yellow. The way Yellow looks at him, makes him suddenly realize that it’s just not worth it. He apologizes and the two of them abandon the pillar and go and be happy hugging caterpillars together.
They’re happy for quite some time. But after a while the contentment fades and the urge to know what's at the top becomes all Stripe can think about, he goes back to the tower and watches. A few caterpillars fall from the sky and land in front of him, one is still alive and says “The top.. they’ll see.. butterflies alone”. It fascinates Stripe and he decides he has to know what's at the top. He asks Yellow to come with him, but as much as she loves him, she can’t go back. So he leaves her.
Yellow waits and misses him. After a while, she realizes she needs to find what will make her happy and begins exploring. On her journey she meets another caterpillar who seems to be ‘caught in some hairy stuff’. She asks if he needs help, and he explains that he’s building a cocoon to become a butterfly. He tells her it’s what they’re meant to become. She asks a bunch of questions and he answers them patiently while building his cocoon. He tells her:
“Once you are a butterfly, you can really love- the kind of love that makes new life. It’s better than all the hugging caterpillars can do.”
Yellow wants to go and get Stripe, but she knows that he’s too far away for her to ever reach him now. So she decides to become a butterfly so she can reach him with her new wings.
Meanwhile Stripe is climbing the tower with ruthless, single minded focus and he’s making progress much faster than he did the first time. He refuses to meet the eyes of any other caterpillars, or talk to them so he won’t risk making friends like he did before. As he gets close to the top he’s exhausted, as is everyone else who’s made it this far. The only way to reach the top is for those who are there to fall:
“He now knew what had happened to those three caterpillars. He now knew what must always happen on the pillar.”
As he tries to summon the will to hurl others to their deaths, he hears someone whisper from the top.
“There’s nothing here at all.” It’s answered by another: “Quiet fool! They’ll hear you down the pillar. We’re where they want to get. That’s what's here!”
Stripe freezes, realizing that the tower only looks good from the bottom. The whispers continue, pointing out other towers that can be seen now they’re above the cloud cover. Millions of caterpillars all climbing over one another. Stripe finally allows himself to think of Yellow, and how much he misses her. He thinks about going down and trying to find her. He’d look ridiculous but it would be better than what’s happening here. The caterpillars below him are preparing to toss his layer off the top of the tower when others cry out in amazement.
Stripe turns to see a brilliant yellow winged creature flying around the pillar. He’s stunned that it’s gotten so high without any climbing, as he pokes his head out to get a better look, the creature seems to recognise him. It tries to pull him free of the pile, but he resists and she lets him go and looks at him sadly. The words from the fallen caterpillar come back to him ‘...butterflies alone.’ The eyes suddenly look familiar to him, and he wonders if it could possibly be Yellow.
He begins to climb back down the tower, trying to tell all the other caterpillars that there’s nothing up there. They don’t believe him. The longer he climbs the harder it gets for him to be hopeful but all he can do is remember Yellow and push on. When he finally reaches the bottom, he rushes back to the home in the grass he’d shared with Yellow but she’s not there, and he collapses in exhaustion. When he wakes up, the yellow creature is waiting for him.
“Is this a dream? He wondered.”
But the creature seemed real, and seemed to be trying to lead him by wandering a short way and waiting for him. He follows her all the way back to the tree with the now empty cocoon husks. She pokes in her head and then her tail before flying over to touch him and do it all again. Although he couldn’t understand her words…
“Somehow he knew what to do. Stripe climbed- again.”
“It got darker and darker and he was afraid. He felt he had to let go of everything…”
“and Yellow waited…”
“...until one day…”

The Great War… that’s it. The best song on Midnights.

We’ve gotta talk about the Swiftgron implications of Midnights… because Taylor Allison Swift did not write a song called MAROON for everyone to miss that it’s about the red muse.
I know, you’re getting stuck on the line about New York. Here’s the thing after her brief stint in London, Dianna moved to New York too and the other 99.9% of the lyrics are a perfect fit and we all know it. Taylor made it obvious with the colour, the phones, the roommate, the Rosè, the stain on her shirt, roses, the vinyls!
Taylor wore the RED ring when she announced Maroon. The ring she created to copy this ring:
Tumblr media
From this night:
Tumblr media
Which was literally the night she got splashed with wine.
And ‘I chose you’ is a direct callback to Ours!
Tumblr media
In High Fidelity she references April 29th. We all know about the Circus birthday party, but let’s look at another of Di’s birthdays.
2016
That year was a mess for Taylor. Kanye’s Famous had come out, her socials were flooded with snakes. She had the depo for her trial against the DJ. Calvin had caused drama. They were setting her up for Hiddlestunting. Kissgate had already caused strain on Kaylor and Karlie’s torn allegiances only made it harder.
Which brings us to:
Tumblr media
Dianna’s labyrinth themed birthday in NYC.
And Midnights has a song called Labyrinth!
Tumblr media
About being scared to fall in love and feeling like her plane was going down. Our dramatic Queen of the many personas literally cut the wings off a plane in LWYMMD.
Tumblr media
Before burying her 2014 Met Gala self and raising her OOTW self by crawling out of a grave.
Tumblr media
Back to High Infidelity:
Tumblr media
Which refers to: ‘this love came back to me.’
Tumblr media
Resurrected with her cross literally ‘glowing in the dark’. Now I know the articles claim Taylor was at Gigi’s party in LA, but that was the night of the 28th. Taylor raced back to NYC as soon as it was over and was spotted coming out of a club on the 30th:
Tumblr media
The same day as Dianna’s party which again was in NYC. Because Dianna had moved to NYC earlier that year to film The Noviciate in Nashville. (Where she took her break in Graceland near Tupelo, used her socials to play the Swiftgron mating call and Taylor likely joined her given the incredibly dirty caption on the photo she posted. But that’s a post for another day when I do a Tis the Damn Season / Dorothea writeup.)
So maybe, just maybe, Taylor left all these clues not to suggest we should associate Maroon, a mature Red, with another muse, but to make us ask:
Who was Taylor dancing with in New York?

“Dancing with Our Hands Tied” - A Swiftgron POV
Unpopular opinion but when I listen to “Dancing with Our Hands Tied”, I can’t help but think this is a Swiftgron song, rather than a Kaylor song. The song opens with “I, I loved you in secret.” Secrecy is the theme of Taylor and Dianna’s relationship and also the theme of many songs that are (allegedly) about Dianna (Wonderland, Out of the Wood, I Know Places, to name a few). Taylor and Karlie are masters at glass closeting and they have never been afraid to show affection in public (2014 AMA award lol). Meanwhile, Dianna and Taylor avoided being pictured together, to the point where Dianna would sneak out after her lunch date with Taylor and her mom to dodge the paps. “First sight, yeah, we love without reason” - As far as we know, Dianna and Taylor hit it off pretty quickly after they met. Didn’t Taylor and Karlie meet long before they started dating late 2013/early 2014? I could be wrong, please correct me if I am. “Oh, twenty-five years old. Oh, how were you to know” - Dianna was 25 when they first started dating. “My, my love had been frozen. Deep blue, but you painted me golden” - When I hear this line, I think of a person who has loved deeply and had lost that love and for a long time, she felt numb, ‘frozen’, unable to love someone the way she had loved before until a new love came and made her feel that kind of love again, someone who dethawed her heart from its “deep blue frozen” state and made her happy, ‘painted her golden’. Taylor’s last serious relationship with Emily Poe ended in 2009 and she didn’t have a serious relationship with anyone else* until she met Dianna in 2011. The two-year gap could be the period when Taylor felt her love had been “frozen”, that she would never be able to love another the way she loved Emily, that is until Dianna came along and Taylor once again found herself head over heel in love. We know Taylor almost immediately started dating Karlie after her relationship with Dianna ended (Swiftgron’s last interaction was in September 2013 and Kaylor started to happen in November 2013 and their subsequent Big Sur trip in March 2014 kind of officiated the relationship). There couldn’t be a period long enough for Taylor to feel that her love was frozen deep blue in between Swiftgron and Kaylor. Also, remember this line from Everything Has Changed (another Dianna’s song): “”And all my walls stood tall painted blue. But I’ll take ‘em down, take ‘em down and open up the door for you,“ this was when Swiftgron first started and this transition from old love to new love is consistent with the lines we’re analyzing in Dancing with Out Hands Tied. Another interesting thing to note is Taylor’s word choice ”painted“ in ”painted me golden.“ Most of us know of Dianna’s love for the arts, but few know that she paints in her spare time. *There was an interview where Taylor mentioned she’d only ever had 3 serious relationships (I couldn’t find the link but if you have it, please throw it my way). The three relationships most of us agree on is Taymily, Swiftgron and Kaylor. She might have casual flings in between Emily and Dianna but they were not serious relationships. ” Oh, and you held me close. Oh, how was I to know“ - reminds me of ”I felt your arms twisting around me“ from “Wonderland” and “You stand with a hand on my waist line” from “I Know Places.” “ I could’ve spent forever with your hands in my pockets Picture of your face in an invisible locket You said there was nothing in the world that could stop it I had a bad feeling And darling, you had turned my bed into a sacred oasis People started talking, putting us through our paces I knew there was no one in the world who could take it I had a bad feeling” During her performance of Out of the Woods at the Grammy museum, Taylor mentioned that the number one feeling that she felt during the relationship that inspired the song was “anxiety.” As in love as she was with this person, she was constantly fearing that it wouldn’t last, that the next roadblock would be the end of them. In other words, she “had a bad feeling.” There was no doubts that their love was real, however, at the same time, she knew the gossips and the rumors were getting out of hands and were starting to jeopardize their relationship. “People started talking, putting us through our paces” reminds me of this line from Wonderland “But there were strangers watching. And whispers turned to talking. And talking turned to screams.” One of Taylor’s biggest fear when she was dating Dianna was that people would find out about them (hence the mid-night rendezvous and early morning sneak outs), so when the public started picking up on it and talking about it, she realized her fear was coming true and the pressure would become too much that she just knew Dianna and her would not be able to handle it, her “bad feeling” had a ground after all. It’s worthy to note that although Dianna loves to share her artistic inspirations with her fans (through her tumblr and the You, Me and Charlie website), she is very private about her personal life, especially when it comes to relationships. This is where their relationship is different from Kaylor. Kaylor is talked about a lot by both the fans who think they are best friends and those who believe in a romantic relationship between them. This does not seem to affect Karlie and Taylor too much as both of them are happy to play along with the “best friends” narrative and showering each other with compliments and affectionate gestures. “But we were dancing Dancing with our hands tied, hands tied Yeah, we were dancing Like it was the first time, first time Yeah, we were dancing Dancing with our hands tied, hands tied Yeah, we were dancing And I had a bad feeling But we were dancing” If there’s anyone who loves to dance (and probably dances too much), it’s Dianna. So it comes as no surprise that dancing is a recurring theme in many of the songs Taylor wrote for/about Dianna. This is not to say that dancing is reserved exclusively for Dianna, but Taylor does have fond memories of them dancing together, “The night we couldn’t quite forget, when we decided (we decided) to move the furniture so we could dance. Baby like we stood a chance” (Out of the Wood), or “Tonight I’m gonna dance for all that we’ve been through. But I don’t wanna dance if I’m not dancing with you. Tonight I’m gonna dance like you were in this room. But I don’t wanna dance if I’m not dancing with you” (Holy Ground). “Dancing with our hands tied” is especially heart-breaking because they both knew that they weren’t allowed the luxury of freely expressing themselves, yet they continue to dance because that was what they wanted, what they longed to do. Dancing in this narrative is a metaphor for loving. They both knew their love would be frowned upon by their management and if ever the public found out, it would have destroyed both their careers, yet, it was something they could not help themselves from doing. Loving each other but couldn’t speak of that love out loud, going out on a dates with your beard attached at your hip, Dianna sneaking into Taylor’s apartment in the middle of the night and sneaking out before the break of dawn, all of this seemed very restrictive, very confining and they probably knew it would crash and burn at some point, “but we were dancing...”   (No wonder why Taylor cried for an hour before recording this song, something she admitted she had never done before with any song *sobs) “I, I loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us” - same theme as before, as seen in her Out of the Wood speech at the Grammy Museum, to quote fully: “The number one feeling I felt in the whole relationship was anxiety. Because it felt very fragile, it felt very tentative. And it always felt like, 'Okay, what’s the next road block? What’s the next thing that’s gonna deter this? How long do we have before this turns into just an awful mess and we break up? Is it a month? Is it three days?” Taylor recognized that the world would never stopped throwing things at their relationship, making an already fragile relationship even more breakable. “So, baby, can we dance Oh, through an avalanche? And say, say that we got it I’m a mess, but I’m the mess that you wanted Oh, 'cause it’s gravity Oh, keeping you with me” Outside forces (“avalanche”) were going to destroyed them but their love for each other could be the only thing that could save them (“can we dance through an avalanche?”). Also, even though a natural force could break them apart (“avalanche”), another, possibly stronger natural force were keeping them together (“gravity”) (This brought me back to the lyrics of Treacherous: “ Put your lips close to mine, as long as they don’t touch. Out of focus, eye to eye, till the gravity’s too much”, another Dianna’s song). “I’d kiss you as the lights went out Swaying as the room burned down I’d hold you as the water rushes in If I could dance with you again”   This whole song was written in past tense and so far, it has described things that had happened. This verse, however, speaks about the “what-if.” I can’t help but feel a sense of longing and of regrets. If Taylor could dance with Dianna again (if she could love her again), what would she do? “I’d kiss you as the lights went out,” you could interpret this as she would continue to love Dianna in secret, kissing her in the dark when no-one was watching. However, “as the lights went out” could also mean when the show is over. Like a stage actress who plays someone else on stage, Taylor puts out this public persona for the world to see, but when the play is over, the stage actress would drop the character she’s playing to be herself, and so Taylor would do the same, she would drop that straight girl image to be with the girl she wants to be with, and to kiss her when this is all over, if she got the chance again. “Swaying as the room burned down” - if she could dance with her again, she would not stop even when the world around them crumbles, she would continue hold on to this love even if it means losing everything else. “I’d hold you as the water rushes in” - a reference to Clean “So I punched a hole in the roof. Let the flood carry away all my pictures of you” and “Rain came pouring down …. and by morning, gone was any trace of you.” If Taylor had a second chance, she would not let this happen, she would hold on to Dianna instead of letting the rain and the flood carry away her presence in Taylor’s life. The water here symbolizes all the forces that drove them apart: her team, the public, her own reputation. This time around, she would rather the water drown them both than letting it take Dianna away like she did last time. (When I listened to this, I couldn’t help but remember that scene from Titanic where the elderly couple laid together, wrapped in each other’s arms as the ship was sinking and the water was rushing in and I might have cried a little because Taylor literally said she would go down with this ship *sobs*) “If I could dance with you again.“
FIN.
*Disclaimer: This is my personal interpretation of this song, it may or may not reflect what was going on in Taylor’s mind when she wrote it so please don’t throw rocks. Also, I didn’t proof read, there may be grammatical and spelling mistakes, be merciful! *
