Art for the lovely @touchofstrange (who bid on a commissioned piece to help fundraise for @coinelot years ago...) I really enjoyed illustrating this touching scene from their story: “All Things Bright and Beautiful” (on AO3). I won't spoil anything beyond what my drawing suggests, but do certainly recommend reading the fic for context! ;)
For those unable to get to the story, I still hope you enjoy seeing these angsty, magic boys - and the cat! ❤
(Festival season coming up, so expect me to be a touch more active! Doing @aftercamlann ... and probably @kinkalot ... I've repressed myself from Merlin smut for too long, haha...)
“Right,” Arthur said. “Since I’m in an exceptionally forgiving mood, if there’s anything else you think I should know, now’s your chance to come clean. You have full impunity.”
Merlin crossed his arms and appeared to think about it. He was silent for an unnervingly long time.
"Your old training sword,” he said at last, “the one that went missing a few days before the tournament? I didn’t lose it. It got melted by a goblin.”
“A goblin?”
“Long story.”
Arthur nodded. Perhaps it was best not to know everything in full detail.
“I saved your life, by the way,” Merlin added. “You’re welcome.”
“Right. Thank you. Anything else?”
“Remember when you were training with Leon, and he hit you in the stomach with a mace? That was me.”
I go slightly feral over how much Merlin and Arthur love each other. It’s something I don’t think I could ever be normal about
Merlin loves Arthur like it’s the only thing he has. Like, not only would he sacrifice his own life, gladly, happily, easily, to keep Arthur alive and happy, but he’s also willing to sacrifice anyone else too, his own people, Camelot, anything. Because Arthur is the most important and special and wonderful thing in the entire world. He loves Arthur to the point of destruction. It’s the kind of love that says, I will burn the world down for you, without thought, without regret, because you are my everything.
But Arthur, I like to imagine that Arthur loves Merlin to the point of creation. If he found out about Merlin’s magic, all he would want (maybe after some anger) would be to create a world where Merlin can be free. Free and safe and acknowledged for all he has done for Arthur. Because Merlin is kind and wise and funny and he makes Arthur want to be a better person. It’s the kind of love that says, I will create a better world for you, I will make a world that deserves you, because you are my everything.
I suppose they really are just two sides of the same coin
the trouble is you never know which show is going to take over your life do you. you could just be innocently watching a show with no intention of being part of the fandom when suddenly boom you’re crying over fanmixes at 1am
As we know, the crystal cave is the birthplace of magic itself.
And Merlin is magic itself.
And Merlin reformed his magic in the crystal cave.
Also, Taliesin can pop in and out of time whenever he sees fit.
So, maybe Hunith, as she was expecting Merlin, was on the search for Balinor to be a family together. She was in the Valley of the Fallen Kings when contractions started and Merlin was about to be born. Hunith found shelter in a cave that happened to be the crystal cave. Taliesin was around at the time to help the human incarnation of magic to be born. Taliesin tells Hunith about Merlin’s future growing up in Ealdor and his Destiny in Camelot.
Hunith returns to Ealdor to raise her child and send him, in time, to Camelot.
Also, try to imagine Taliesin trying to convince Hunith to name her child Emrys and she’s just ‘Nah, I’ve already decided for Merlin!’
