the relationship between the Roy siblings and the Old Guard™ kinda makes me crazy. Karl, Gerri and Frank have known the sibs since they were kids, most if not all of their lives. when Roman tells Ken he's fired Gerri and Ken alludes to that connection like, "as in shiv's godmother gerri?" it's so mocking, like how shiv calls gerri her "fairy God mother" before her wedding, but only condescendingly. it's crazy because, once again love, familial loyalty just has the least amount of value to these hypercapitalist people. the other fucked place you see that is the way it's just not voiced that the other fucked up filling on the fucked sandwich that is romangerri is that, she's someone who's known roman since he was a baby but neither she nor him place any meaning on that. We even know the Old Guard are well aware of Logan's abuse, tiptoeing around it but also offering the kids up as punching bags when they don't want to bare the brunt of Logan's wrath. even moments where the old guard appear as a balm to the kids, like when Frank comforts Ken at Logan's wake, Frank is only trying to balance out saving his own ass from irrelevancy and Ken is just looking for his power to be validated. Obviously this goes both ways, there's numerous examples where the siblings treat the Old Guard as disposable, as less than human despite being in their lives as long as their parents. Isn't that just...so fucking horrific?? We're talking about people that have watched over the siblings their entire lives, even been legal parental figures, but at no point has either party placed any real value on that. if the care or love is there, it doesn't matter, it can't matter.
