Algarve tennis has come a long way in the last decade. There are now a number of top quality tennis venues in resorts such as Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago and the majority of the region's hotels have outdoor tennis facilities. Vale do Lobo, of course, is now part of the ATP Seniors tour so perhaps it is not surprising that more and more people are playing the game of tennis in the Algarve each year.

The level of tennis coaching in the Algarve is as good as any in Europe. There are many foreign tennis coaches working in the Algarve as well as the best Portuguese coaches; many of whom are permanently based there. Coaching is regulated by the Portuguese Tennis Federation (Federação Portuguesa de Ténis) and its regional branch the Algarve Tennis Association. Professional instruction is available for all players of the game with most lessons taking place outside on grass, artificial grass, synthetic and clay courts. The Algarve's favourable climate means that rain is hardly ever a barrier to outdoor teaching.
