The Various Health Benefits of Eating Fish
Tumblr media
The recipient of a bachelor's degree in commerce and engineering with an emphasis in accounting from Drexel University, Andrew Muc is an experienced CPA who serves as accounting manager at NRG Energy, Inc. In this role, he performs various accounting functions to ensure accuracy in the close of the company's monthly ledger. Andrew Muc enjoys cooking in his free time, and is particularly fond of incorporating fresh fish into his meals. Fish is a protein-rich, low-fat food that contributes to several positive health outcomes. In addition to protein, it contains vital nutrients and minerals such as iodine, potassium, zinc, and vitamin D. Fatty fish, including salmon, tuna, and trout, are especially good sources of vitamin D. Fish is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support cognitive functions and have been linked to lower risk for heart attacks, strokes, and various diseases. The American Heart Association recommends individuals eat fish at least twice per week. Because of the presence of omega-3 fatty acids, fish consumption has also been linked to healthy cognitive and growth development. Studies have shown people who incorporate fish into their diets have slower rates of mental decline and are less likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, the omega-3 fat docosahexaenoic acid is key for brain and eye development, making it beneficial for pregnant women. However, pregnant women should only consume low-mercury fish such as salmon and trout. Other studies have linked fish consumption to decreased risk for depression and autoimmune diseases.

How to Scale and Gut a Fish
Tumblr media
With almost 20 years of experience in the financial industry, Andrew Muc serves NRG Energy as an accounting manager. In this position, he is responsible for managing the general accounting aspects of the company, as well as producing monthly consolidated financial results. Outside of work, Andrew Muc enjoys cooking and experimenting with cuisines, especially with the ones that use fish. Preparing fish at home is something that is dreaded by many cooks, but scaling and gutting the fish are handy skills for those who enjoy eating this type of meat. Scaling the fish removes the bacteria from the surface of the animal, helping it last longer in a refrigerated environment. The best way to scale a fish is to use a fillet knife that can be worked against the grain of the fish scales. The knife must pass by the scales from the tail to the head, removing them on its way. Some fish also need to be gutted. A way to gut fish is to slip the tip of the same knife under the skin, in the bottom section, sliding it towards the head with a clean, shallow cut. Depending on the type of fish, when the skin is pulled, it reveals the gills and entrails for removal. Also, the head can be removed after this process.
