Anyways, any new people from Twitter, welcome!

Tumblr’s kinda similar in a buncha ways (Tweet = Post, Retweet and Quote Tweet = Reblog), but here’s a short little summary of things that work differently and might help yall to know:

Optional: Go to your Settings, go to Dashboard, and remove “Best Things First”. This is a very recent attempt by Tumblr to include a form of “Likes” based algorythm. It’s somewhat primitive, and makes it very hard for most posts to get any visibility, so it’s highly recommended to just turn it off. If you do, all posts on your dash will be seen in chronological order instead.

Tags work in a similar way to Twitter, except you now add them at the very bottom of a post! They’re smaller and greyed out, so they’re much less intrusive, and you can add in up to 20 tags per post. The first 5 tags are the ones most likely to show up on searches, so keep that in mind when posting!

Tags are more than just a hashtag system! Because you can write spaces and full sentences in them, people will use them a lot to add uninntrusive comments on reblogs. See, direct comments on reblogs will stick under the original post for any chain of reblogs that originates from yours, and might detract from the original post. Only include comments there if there’s something you think is important to point out of discuss about the original post (and please try keep civil)

REBLOG!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, REBLOG! Tumblr doesn’t work like Twitter. There’s no algorythm here to spoonfeed you the most popular posts based on likes. Things on tumblr only move via two ways: By tags, and especially by reblogs. Always try to reblog posts you like, so they can actually be seen! Likes are nice but don’t actually do anything for visibility! (and no, “Best Things First” doesn’t help expand beyond the people and tags you are already following)

Curate your experience! Blocking is always an option, and because there’s so many possible tags that can be added on a post, it’s much easier to blacklist more specific tags for yourself (For example, blacklisting #gore or #eyestrain). DONT CENSOR WORDS IN TAGS! Stuff like “k!ll” and “s*icide mention” doesn’t screw with “The Algorythm”, because there is none! The only thing it does is make it impossible for people to avoid the tags they’ve blacklisted!

Posts can be as long as you want! Tumblr will automatically “hide” part of a post after a certain point under a “See More” button to prevent cluttering people’s dash (It might’ve even done it for this very post). Just by clicking on it, people will instantly be able to see the full unchanged post, which is very handy!

This article gives loads of good insight on how they had to work around certain jokes and be clever with certain situations that the dynamic duo would come across.

I don't know if Steve feels the same way make a Sam and Max show toward a older audience, but im all for it.

Rambling opinion warning****

...

1. I think that they should definitely go hunting for everyone that was involved in the original show.

2. KEEP THAT SAME CLEVER STYLE OF HUMOR.

A. In the freelance police "kids show" there were loads of mature jokes, plain and simple. That same spirit of "mixing and blending" in the adult humor without making it too obvious SHOULD stay.

***Keep the audience guessing and have em' fill in the blanks***

B. Cursing, violence (guns, blood, fighting), could be done a bit more now, however since Sam and Max have such a abstract goofy humor there would still need to be some filters.

(Ex. When Max's brain gets taken by skunkape, it is very violent, but not a drop of blood? This time around there can be some blood, not Niagara falls amounts, but just something. Maybe some "low grade" cursing on Sam's part *damn, hell, etc, though Sam saying "fiddlesticks" or "raspberry socks" as cursing is very funny).

3. Make it modern without making it modern.

A. Happygiant VR game did a good job showing that even though the world is a bit more modern, Sam and Max are still the same.

B. Not everything needs to be tech based. Yes Sam and Max are from the late 1980s, 60 year old crime fighters, however just because they live in 2022 doesn't mean all the new villains need to be techy or a hacker. One or two but most villains are still going to be cult leaders, ocean stealers, ghosts that have unfulfilled dreams of being the worlds best bird watcher, tap dancing bread smugglers, etc.

C. Don't let Sam or Max use a smartphone... Please... I can deal with a laptop, even though that would bother me, but lets leave them with the traditional land line. In fact that can be a good starter episode.

Maybe Sam and Max feel a bit outta place in the 21st century, new heros and villains and consider retirement to a geriatric community upstate called "Gelatin Palms" where old crime fighters such as Dick Tracy and Hong Kong Fuey (spoofs of them of course), sit in rocking chairs with thick covers on their lap while being fed medicated pudding.

A case comes along from one of their old villains. And as it goes the villain is upset because his son or nephew is upstaging him as a villain using new techniques. Sam, Max and the villain have a heart to heart sitting down together.

While the police are using drones CCTV and other heros and criminals are hacking with other cyber attacks, Sam, Max and the villain drive by within the old DeSoto, make it to the police station, and throw the thankful criminal in jail while the front desk is still trying to put in the code for the password and click pictures for 2 step verification.

Sam and Max decide not to retire.

So...

If ya do go more mature, don't over do it.

Get as much as the original people as you can, with some "fresh" consultation.

Keep Sam and Max old school, yet knowledgeable about the world around them.

Hi Sax! I was wondering about what you think about the new generation of Sam and Max lovers and fans coming into the fandom? Do you think that it could lead to new Sam and Max content in the future if there’s enough support?

Sam and Max started in 1987. I was born 1983. The cartoon came out in 1997, i was 14.

It is a old franchise.

Seeing fans young enough to be my children and 10 years younger than me is a VERY good thing because it means that Sam and Max will live on with renewed interest.

I hope the youth enters the field and someday works with Skunkape, Happy Giant and a 110-year old Steve Purcell to make games, a gay-ass sassy show and HOPEFULLY a long OVERDUE movie.

I hope they do not try to be cringe and edgy like in the 2000s games, but more abstract and goofy.

Be open minded, yet push the envelope.

Be inclusive, yet call back to old jokes (with a few tweaks)

Etc.

If there is enough support is the key question.

Sam and Max is not the biggest franchise or fandom, real cult, but growing.

When I was on twitter many fans kept asking for a Sam plush from the good and talented people of Uncute, however it cost money.

Supply and demand.

Is there enough demand for Sam and Max merch? Truthfully I don't know. I hope im proven wrong. Please prove me wrong.

If uncute was to say 'we will take 500 pre-orders of special valentines Sam and Max hugging plushes', would 500 fans come out? I want to believe so, but i don't think so.

Or more realistically, a bundle with the new Sam plush and a Max plush for 85.00? Would 300 of you sign up...?

Without the Lol's or 'sure i would'... Think about it.

So yeah, "new" fans and youth fans are fine. As long as they love Sam and Max, are positive and careful within the community if they choose to converse within it.

I hope young and old share with their family and friends.
