I noticed you have tagged posts ableist language on posts which I haven’t noticed the ableist language in. Sometimes in further reflection I can see why you have added that tag, and sometimes not. If you’ve ever got the time/inclination, could you explain some of the more nuanced ableist language usages?
sure thing! (and obviously, trigger warning for ableist language to follow)
I know many may feel I take a pretty radical stance, but i've studied enough linguistics to know how powerful the words we use can be, even when we don't intend it in that way. so I use the ableist language tag for when people are not being ableist but are using language which reinforces ableism. this can get a bit tricky as the people who are the subjects of ableist terms may often identify with or reclaim those terms, like calling someone a cripple is ableist, but many people self-identify as cripples, like the cripple punk movement.
I think they generally fall in three categories:
intelligence: stupid, idiot, moron, etc. intelligence and iq are not real, they're eugenicist myths and insulting people's intelligence only feeds these myths and serves the ruling class. build solidarity by seeing everyone as your equal. there is no moral value to having received a better or worse education than someone else. also many of these terms come directly from eugenics, such as their classifications of types or degrees of autism.
diagnoses: psycho, dumb, schizo, bipolar etc. these are real health conditions and i shouldn't have to explain why using them as insults is deeply offensive.
saneism: insane, crazy, mad, etc. the sane/insane dichotomy, if it was ever helpful, which I doubt, has been outdated for generations. there is no medical diagnosis of 'insane', there are hundreds of mental health conditions and an infinite number of combinations which we are barely beginning to understand. but none of them have or convey a moral value. using them as insults only stigmatizes those of us who have them, to the benefit of the ruling class and detriment of solidarity.
even if you are skeptical or attached to this language I'd challenge you to try not using it. you'll find it improves your vocabulary and your speaking and writing skills. not just that but it will deepen how you think about your fellow humans.

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
1. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
2. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
3. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
4. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

okay, you know what? Running away shouldn’t be a crime. It shouldn’t be dangerous, either. Any kid should be able to leave their parents if they want, for any reason. No I’m not kidding.
“But Rue, where will these kids stay? Do you want them on the streets?”
of course not. In an ideal world, a kids would have multiple adults other than their parents they could look to for care, but I recognize that that will never be a reality for every single child. So: youth shelters, if they have nowhere else to go. There should be clean, warm shelters where anyone under 18 can stay for as long as they need, no questions asked. (And of course shelters that aren’t just for kids, but we’re talking about youth rights right now)
“But Rue,” I hear you say, “what if some moody teenager runs away after an argument?”
First of all, I’d rather a thousand moody teenagers run away than one abused child be trapped. Second, so what if one does? A kid needs time away from their parents, so they leave. The vast majority of them will get some time to cool down and then go back home, and if they don’t want to go back, period? Then nine times out of ten, they have a good reason. (Because yes, as hard as it is for you to believe, kids are humans who have common sense.)
“Okay, but what about the one time out of ten the kid doesn’t have a good reason?”
Then the kid doesn’t have a good reason. It doesn’t change anything. If someone wants to break up with their partner because of something stupid, you wouldn’t say they legally shouldn’t be able to. (And if you would, then you’re just a bad person.) No one should have to be in a relationship, romantic or otherwise, that they don’t want to be in.

"X transids ARE their transids!"
"But what about transharmfuls/hatefuls???!"
The solution to this I've seen floating around is to stop thinking of transids as genders. Maybe some transids fully identify as the thing they are, maybe some only partially do, maybe some feel like they want to be that thing but fully believe they aren't, maybe some know they aren't that thing but want to be treated as such anyways, at the end of the day it doesn't matter. Tranids are a very personal experience and we shouldn't be making blanket claims about how any of us interpret our identities.

you have a right to exist in this community, as it would be your right to exist in any other community.

Unprintable: Artists Against Authority
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am absolutely beside myself with excitement to announce the launch of Unprintable.
Unprintable is an online free shop, where original artwork and arts resources are released into the public domain.
Everything listed here is free to use, copy and remix any way you like. You can print off hi-res artwork to decorate your apartment, or to use in your own projects. You can use the writing in your own zines, anthologies or performances. You can put it on a t-shirt. You can read it on the radio. You can paint it on a truck. It's up to you, entirely and forever.
The collection will be updated continuously, on an unfixed schedule, with contributions from a wide range of named and anonymous artists and activists. You can read the FAQ for a full rundown of what Unprintable is and why it exists, but these are the really important parts:
Can I download/print/use the work listed here? Yes. Can I use it for [X]? You can do whatever you want with it forever. But what if I want to [Y]? You can do whatever you want with it forever. Why do this? A few reasons: 1. We want a space to just share things, no strings attached. We recognise that copyright is an irrational system that was designed to protect the profit interests of publishing middlemen and IP hoarders. In fact, copyright is often weaponised against the creators it pretends to protect. As long as it exists, we are unlikely to win any other form of protection for our work, and we are profoundly limited from engaging in the kind of communal artistic and storytelling practices that were the norm around the world for thousands of years. 2. Radical art is often unprintable. Profit motives make people cautious. A lot of print-on-demand or local print shop services will refuse artwork with controversial, sensitive or political content. This is very frustrating when these themes are the focus of so much of our work (and indeed our lives). Rather than waste any more breath trying to explain why a trans artist might want to print the word ‘faggot’, we can give our work away for free. Got a printer? It’s yours. 3. It feels good. Sharing is joyful. It’s the reason we love making things in the first place. We don’t write poems because we look forward to filleting them for consumption, or layer colours so that we can sell a canvas by the ounce. We have only ever wanted to be able to support ourselves so that we can make, but that relationship is deeply dysfunctional under capitalism. We made these things, and we want you to have them. It doesn’t need to be complicated.
I'll write up some more posts introducing the launch collection soon. In the meantime...be free, enjoy, explore, have fun!

Can we PLEASE stop talking about "hurting the image of the community" or "giving the community a bad name" or "[insert group] is unwelcome in the community" or "TRUE RADQUEERS don't support [insert group]" and literally anything like that.
That's respectability politics. You are trying to make yourself look better to the oppressor by throwing others under the bus. No matter how many (trans/cis*)harmfuls or scary abusive pro-cs or conabusive relationships or creeps or freaks or nasties you throw out or reject, we will look bad. We will NEVER "prove ourselves" by destroying ourselves.
We will look bad because oppressors do not give a flying fuck about who or what we do. We will have a bad name because we will always be the "bad guys." We will always be creeps, freaks, nasties, abusers, and every other thing you accuse your fellow community members of being. The ONLY THING that they care about is demonizing the target group. Don't make it easier for them.
Even if we could somehow get rid of all the "bad radqueers", guess what? They'd go after the "good ones", they actively go after the good ones right now. And the audacity you all have, condemning antis for spitting venom all day long, and then turning around and saying the exact same shit is genuinely embarrassing. The fact you are accusing others of being abusive, bigots, or whatever else does not become good because you are saying it.
Not to be confused with cishateful as in like,,, jk rowling*
Repost of something from yesterday,,, idk why I wrote this in this manner when I dont remember feeling particularly angry but idk its smart bcz I'm gr8. Istg if that rq confessions post this ask I. Might just explode actually it'd be so embarrassing and impatient of me!!! But it's OK my impeccable Rizzoli will balance it out

Wanna coin a prefix,,, can't think of flag for it,,,,
VetusID - from the latin word for old....
A substitute ID for if you consider yourself cisID due to the past but do not currently condone your past actions / technically did not do it but still feel guilty / just no longer ID with it when you're technically cisID (I.E.. IDing as VetusHarmful because you were previously nonconsensually harmful but no longer enact harmful behavior... or saw someone getting hurt but didn't/couldn't stop it, even if looking back, you see how you could have stopped it) this is different from nullID, since you're not necessarily transitioning out of it, it's an acknowledgement of "this is a part of me, and I still consider myself to be cisID but don't want to be for whatever reason"
Might request someone make a flag / flag template for this,,, hmm
If someone already made something similar lmk ... coined 11:15AM april 20th, 2024

I think if you want more people to accept cisharmfuls then you have to choose different terminology. You cannot deny the implication nor does anybody owe you a deep look into your identity considering, no, not all cisharmfuls are on the same page when it comes to what that can mean. If you wish to call yourself cisharmful for any reason, with that, you have to accept people believing you are. Well. Harmful. Especially in the Radqueer community, most people do not have the time or patience to risk things like that, considering, yes, the community has a problem with predators and proud bigots and many people in this community have been hurt by this, so benefit of the doubt is hard to operate on for many.
If you say you're cismurderer, most people aren't going to care enough to seek out or guess some tragic story in which you witnessed a death you could have prevented, making you feel like you were actually a murderer but you're not how could people assume you actually murdered someone? You're only summarizing your experiences by essentially saying you have actually murdered someone, since that's what cis- means in this community.
Alternatively, if you have actually done something harmful and you're trying to recover/make amends/etc I support that, calling yourself cisharmful does not communicate this and rather comes across as proudly labeling your action. People do brag about or proudly display their actual status as an abuser, csem collector, racist, and so on. Why would people immediately assume you're different?
If you need to add a bunch of asterisks to your label inherently then it's not an effective label. And not adding them is a failure on your end and any pushback or questioning you get is on you, fully.
My suggestion: Coin new prefixes - if you want you can create separate ones which essentially communicate "I would not actually fall under this label but past experiences make me feel like I do," see the murderer example, and another which communicates "I have actually done this but I have either changed or I am in the process of moving on and becoming better." (I do not recommend putting things related to actual crimes you can be punished for on your profile).

there's no "wrong way" to be plural.
you don't need to be a "system".
you don't need to be a "collective".
you don't need to hear voices.
you don't need to have concrete ideas or knowledge about the "others" inside you.
you don't need a consistent headmate count.
you don't need a checklist for what's a "real" headmate.
you just need to feel at home in a plural community. you just need to see experiences and say "yeah, that feels right. i feel like that fits."
that's all it takes.
