The Different Anime Genres You Need to Know
Being an avid anime fan for several years, I could saw that this form of animation can be considered one of the most intriguing art forms out there.  That is not without proof as there have been countless anime shows in the past and present that seem to draw in more audiences and touch on more subject areas.
If you say that anime is quite a diverse form of storytelling, you are right. In fact, there are various genres in the art form from pulse-pounding action right to weird and creepy hentai. To get you more acquainted with this industry, here several genres that any anime show can come in.
Tumblr media
Action
This is one of the most popular anime genres out there for one simple reason: it is straightforward. Any action premise goes like this: two persons meet and, for various contrived reasons, proceeds to beat the snot out of each other.
After several punches, kicks, screams and a hissatsu (finishing move), one of the two fighters will remain standing. Due to this very simple formula, it is easy to see why it fits with a lot of shounen anime like Dragonball Z and One Piece.
Adventure
Due to relatively simplistic style of Action genres, it needs some form of cohesive story telling so as not to make things stale. Thus, the adventure genre was born and it goes hand in hand with the previous genre.
In an adventure anime, a character will go to new places, meet new characters and have them join his group (after soundly beating them, of course). Center to the journey will be the search of mystical items or characters to fight off the evil pervading their land.
Adding narrative weight that action genre lack, adventure makes any anime series even more coherent and less pointless. Its only gripe, however, is that it can go pretty boring from time to time especially if a character’s background is to be established. One good example of this genre is the American-made anime, Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel.
Comedy
Anime can also delve into the downright comical from time to time. Eschewing plot in favor of laughs, the stories of comedy anime series are pretty simple to make way for the jokes. Aside from a simple plot, the characters would also either have to be idiots, braggarts, klutzes, ditzes and dimwits so as to make the scenes more comedic.
Though there would a mild-mannered character from time to time, it would be most certain that they would have to deal with a gang of morons. Comedy Series include Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, Lucky Star and almost all harem (multiple love triangles) anime.

Love and Romance
One of the more character-driven stories in anime, the love and romance genre is generally aimed at older women and revolves around the progression of the relationship between two characters. Though it can be mixed with other genres like comedy and adventure, the plot will also center on themes of love and relationships. Examples of this genre include Love Hina and Clannad.
Ecchi and Hentai
We now enter into adult-oriented themes in Anime. The Word "Ecchi" is a play on how Japanese people say the letter H, which in itself is an acronym for Hentai. However, the two are considerably different depending on how they rely on sex and sexuality.
Ecchi, for instance, uses partial nudity and hints on sexuality to illicit laughter from the audience and is used only as a means of fan service. Hentai, on the other hand, is raunchier and would revolve around sexual acts, which can range from normal, depraved and even supernatural. Care is to be exercised when viewing this genre.
These are but a few of the many anime genres that you can find at various online viewing sites. If you want to take a look at other genres, you can go to this site: http://ow.ly/qgFAI.
