There these seemingly contradictory societal double binds that are used to enforce conformity.

Example: A Lesbian is told that "everyone is actually bi" while a bisexual woman is told to "pick a side". Seems contradictory but really they just want us to be straight lmao.

Another one: A woman who does not perform womanhood to society's standard is not a real woman vs. You can never change the gender you were born with. One is butchphobic/anti gnc women, the other is transphobic. Clearly both enforce transmisogyny.

The insidious thing is that these double binds also foster inter community division. Its easy to hear one side of these, for example: "everyone is a little bi" and assume that means bisexuality is more accepted. But on the other side bisexual people are getting the same shit.

None of these are contradictory when you realize that bigots simply don't want lgbtq+ to exist at all.

The reason categorizing fanfiction by tropes works is because there's already an established setting, cast of characters, and theme in the original work, so when people write fanfics they're building sand castles in pre-existing beaches, but when you advertise your book as "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" it says nothing about what the premise is, who the characters are, or what the book is actually trying to say. That's not to say that books containing stuff like "sci-fi enemies to lovers where there's only one bed and also they're gay" can't be absolutely fantastic books, but if you only advertise by listing off tropes that are inherently cookie-cutter then you're implying (whether intentionally or not) that there's nothing interesting or memorable about the book besides smashing tropes together like you're playing with action figures.

Hi everyone, it's been a while 👀 here's what's new for 2024:

I'll start by streaming more, and as time goes on I'll pick up let's playing again as well. Upcoming games include: full stream series of Horizon Zero Dawn & Forbidden West, a shorter series of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and potentially a big long let's play of Alan Wake & Alan Wake 2. I'm also looking forward to Hades 2 on early access (slated for Q2) and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2, hopefully coming out in the fall. Please note: this is the plan for the whole year, not, like, the immediate future.

As for video essays: as you'll know, those take a lot of time to research and produce, so I can't give you concrete details there just yet. I have a few topics in mind I'd really like to work on, but I also need to pace myself as I'm doing all of this, for my own amusement, in addition to working full-time. I'll be starting a completely new position in a few months, so bear with me as I sort out... my life, essentially. Juggling all this and struggling with burnout and other mental health issues has not been easy, will never be entirely easy, and I don't want to take on or promise too much when I've just rounded the bend.

“It’s called Gallows Creek,” he chided.

“Might as well be fictional,” she said, “except for all the trouble it’s given you.”

“Trust me, it’s very real. The radio’s real, the old ladies at the grocery store are real, and so are the cows and the clouds.”

“Then what’s keeping you, seriously?” She paused. “Are you turning into one of them?”

“I’m not one of them,” Forrest said, rolling his eyes.

“Hmm. Methinks the radio host doth protest too much,” she snipped. “Listen, we can go in circles for another hour, but it wouldn’t get us anywhere. There’s something you’re not telling me—”

“Lyds—”

“And I respect that. I can appreciate that, even after only being there for a short time, the kind of stuff you’ve been through makes it tough to leave. But you have only been there for a couple months, and the big leagues are calling. So pack your stuff and come back. 35 listeners on a school night isn’t you, Forrest. It’s beneath your notice. Louisville is happy to give you some more time to consider and sort out any availability issues with the Sheriff’s Office, but listen to me. They won’t wait forever. You need to give them something, or they’ll decide it’s not worth the effort, after all.”

“I understand.” Forrest shut his mouth before he ended up getting defensive. “I’ll let you know soon, ok?”

“I’m holding you to that, Forrest,” she warned. “I need a straight answer by the end of the week.”
