ive been in the mood to write lately, and I realized my previous original characters (from old short stories) all meet at cafes I'm upset I don't want callie and auden to date

i'm really struggling on the relationship that these two have. i don't know whether or not it should be platonic, romantic, familial.... 

i don't want them to be strangers but i wan't there to be some sort of comfort and personal closeness to each other that two randos wouldn't have, or two acquaintances

i wouldve elaborated on auden's wardrobe but i concluded that he's a guy who wears a lot of free tshirts. that there's his uniform for work

i put a lot into callie's, i guess cause her style was one of the first things that came to me. 

auden doesn't really care about his clothes

it demands attention because how do you hear it otherwise--ah, no, i don't like that...

but it was sure of itself. cal isn't unconfident

i really need to study body language because that's going to be an important part of writing for anthem. Er Callie cal. Anthem 

the phrase "show not tell" is going to be taken very literally here.

the meeting

He thought that working as a barista would help him meet new people. He was wrong. 

Instead, Auden only scratched the surface of human interaction. He learned names as dictated to him by customers who, for the most part, wanted little more from him than a specialty coffee drink. 

When she is up in line, he asks her name, per usual, and she speaks for the first time in the day. She speaks to him for the first time. 

"Callie," she tells him, and he interprets as a slang-y abbreviation of the sunshine state. She watches him misspell, and she speaks again, interjecting the glide of his pen against paper cup. 

"Callie," she tells him, and he corrects his mistake with the transformation of the I to L, and adding, why--

"C, A, L, L, I, E," at a volume he would hear again only within the secrecy and solitude of his sheets.

But at that point, he finds her assertive and a little rude. He makes her drink and does not hear the apology escaping her lips. To be fair, no one does. And collecting her drink, it is the same. She opens her mouth to no avail. 

Over one hour after the occurrence Auden notices the customer sitting at a table parallel to the counter. Her drink is empty. The page before her is full. Full of words describing:

How the coffee tastes.

The day's weather.

The temperament of the flustered/frustrated barista.  

In the past sixty four minutes, she had not once looked up from her notebook.

He was in search of people's stories, and Cali/Cally/Callie certainly appeared to have something to share. The greatest obstacle he faced was encouraging her to tell it.
