Quinceanera's
Have you ever been to a Quincearea party? Well, it is one of the best ways to socialize and better understand an important tradition simultaneously. Latinas in America should celebrate their 15th birthday because of its cultural, symbolic, and social values.
Having my quinceanrea was a major event in my life. I would always hear these stories of others having their 15 birthday party and how they would have theirs again. Interviewing a close friend she mentioned that her 15th party was for memories. She mentioned how it is a beautiful experience and she would recommend it to others.
Tumblr media
Having a Quinceanera is very popular among Latin girls. There are many customs and traditions we follow to get ready for the big day. It signifies a girl going from their childhood to womanhood/adulthood. They have unlimited themes to choose from and what color they want to go with.

# Quinceanera Dress
One of the most memorable moments of my quinceanre was choosing my quinceanrea dress. I was not planning to have a quinceanera, but as my birthday was around the corner I was more inclined to have a small party.
I decided to go dress shopping for a short light blue dress. Something a dama dress would look like. As we went from store to store, we could not find anything. My parents suggested that go to a small store that had 15 dresses on display. We got out of the car and went into the shop. I told the lady what I was looking for. She said that she did not have the dress I was looking for, but she did have a full-size dress in that color. She told us we could try it on and see if it would be something I could end up choosing. My parents agreed and I went into the back room to try it on. When I first saw the dress, I remembered it looking similar to Cinderella's blue sparkly dress.
Tumblr media
This was my dress.
After getting the dress on, I looked in the mirror and looked at myself. I saw this big fluffy sparkly light blue dress. It had a slight v-cut neckline and sparkly gemstones as the corset design. I was overjoyed and feeling a bit anxious. I went out and showed my siblings and parents the dress. The least to say is that they loved the dress. They were amazed and convinced me to get it.
Tumblr media
A quinceanera dress has symbolic and cultural values. The quinceanera chooses a dress that reflects their “character, preference, and sense of fashion.” My Quinceanera dress is essential to me. Not only does it reflect me, but it brings back memories from my Quinceanera.

Quinceanera Culture
Quinceanera is a traditional celebration that is “often attributed to the ancient customs of the Aztecs, but its meaning is similar to the initiation rites practiced by other cultures the world over.” “The purpose of the ceremony is to celebrate a girl’s transformation from childhood to young adulthood and to formally assign her a new social role before the entire community.
There are various ways to celebrate the Quinceañera. Although the significance has not changed, the Church plays an important role in the ceremony in some Central American countries, as well as in Mexico and Puerto Rico.” In the ceremony, the priest will have a special mass session to pray for you; resulting in thanking “God for all of the blessings the family has received. After mass, some girls decide to take pictures and get food. Others just go back to their venue.
Tumblr media
They retouch a couple of things like their hair and makeup and sometimes change out of their dress. When putting the dress back on, they transform into this beautiful “princess”.
Tumblr media
I woke up early to get my hair and makeup done. When I changed into my dress, I was speechless. I had never worn that much makeup and never had my hair done so, being pampered felt nice. It felt like I was improving my femininity to the max.
Tumblr media
Quinceanera dresses are traditional because they “usually resemble bridal gowns, denoting innocence and femininity.” Looking past what Quinceanera has evolved to, it is important to understand the meaning and traditional value of having a Quinceanera. It brings us closer to our ancestors and our adulthood.

15's Symbolism
The symbolic aspect of having a Quinceanera “remains the same...quinceañera marks the passage of a young girl's life from childhood to adulthood.” The symbolic aspect of a
Quinceanera comes from the family's background and customs. Since people are changing where they live, many Latin comments have evolved and generated new symbolic meanings for a quinceanera.
Some symbolic artifacts are the tiara, tiara, and dress. “The Quinceañera wears an elegant gown, often in pastel colors or white, symbolizing purity and grace.” The tiara “is the crown that the young lady wears to indicate that she is the princess, the daughter of God.”
Tumblr media
My tiara.
I wanted to make new memories and bring everyone together to have a good time. Looking at my dress I can remember all of the behind the scene. I was seeing my close family members help me with different tasks for my big day, which is why my dress is symbolic for me.

# Quinceanera Party !!!!
A Quinceanera is a very social event accepted by a Latin community in the US, resulting in a Quinceanera having social values.
Having a Quinceanera is a big or small event that marks a major achievement. This an achievement boring family and friends together to celebrate. No matter how a Quinceanera chooses to have her party she will always be surrounded by those who care about her.
Tumblr media
When the day starts to approach, she starts to hand out invitations for her party. This becomes a big event quickly. Having one invitation can sometimes lead to extra people coming to enjoy the party. When you arrive at the party, you usually talk and have dinner.
After the dinner, the Quinceanera and her court get ready for the waltz. This is when things start to get exciting. People are hyped and normally people are on recording or are transmuting via live. The waltz is dance and a toast is made to celebrate the quinceanera. She dances with her dad or mom while her court prepares for the surprise dance.
Tumblr media
By the end of the surprise dance the audience is invited to the dance floor and the dancing begins. People dance and have fun for the rest of the night.
Tumblr media
Although it is just celebrating a birthday, “quinceanera’s consumptive activities in the manner of financial investments and resource commitments by multiple family members promote group strength and resilience.” This just represents family and friends coming together to celebrate and remember the day you are a woman to those around you.

Say Yes!!!!
Having a Quinceanera is another form of celebrating our culture. We might not have the same beliefs as our ancestors, but this is one celebration that we can all agree on.
Cultural, symbolic, and social values differentiate a girl's fifteenth birthday from the rest of her birthdays. Interviewing an older person, she mentioned how they would congratulate her and tell her that she is now becoming a “woman.” Living in America or small Latin communities changes the way we view things. This new perspective can be implemented in the Quinceanera thus resulting in the modern version of Quinceanera's.
Tumblr media
Although nowadays we have a modernized Quinceanera we still use the traditional cultural, symbolic, and social values of a Quinceanera celebration. This is why the Quinceanera dress is an important object that I have kept ever since I turned 15.
So, I can proudly say have a Quinceanera!
