Wetsuit vs Drysuit For Kayaking
Since body temperature quickly drops when in cold water, exposure suits such as wetsuit vs drysuit allow you to maintain your body heat for longer so that you are warmer whilst underwater.
Which can be essential to your survival if in any case - but specifically talking about kayaking - could save your life.
Ultimately, Giving you that much-needed time to make an essential decision that could play part in saving your life.
Without it, we risk placing ourselves in a situation where we rapidly lose to much body heat - that's why personally I recommend always wearing one no matter if its a little warm outside.
Now we've established that what is it that drysuits and wetsuits do. We are going to discuss what are the differences when we consider drysuit vs wetsuit - and are they essential when we think about what to wear kayaking?
What is a wetsuit?
[quads id=1]
A wetsuit operates on the principle that your body heat is the best heat source which you can come up with, the thermal protection works as follows;
Made with closed-cell foam materials, which is filled with very tiny - impossible to see gas bubbles trapped within the weaves of the suit.
Only you enter the water the material which has been constructed allows for a thin layer of water through your suit - this may seem silly, especially if the water is freezing but let me explain why...
The thin layer of water between the material and your body actually heats up after some time - so initially it may still be cold. This causes the water to heat up and serve as a warm blanket for your body - causing you to stay warm all throughout your water activity, which makes it perfect if you submerge into the water when kayaking - for whatever reason.
You're going to want a tight-fitting wetsuit since it's essential to the practical use of the suit. If you have a loose-fitting one for example; the water will get trapped and untrapped constantly, meaning that you will use up precious energy in trying to get the new water to become warm - constantly repeating the process simply because your suit isn't tight enough.
The thickness matters as a thicker suit provide more protection and insulation - perfect for cold waters. A thinner suit is better for warmer waters.
For kayaking, you're going to want a thick suit all year round - even in the summer. Especially if you're located in the UK, there is almost never a time where you're going to feel too uncomfortably warm in your wetsuit to the point where you can't carry on.
What is a drysuit?
[quads id=1]
As the name indicates, if you were to compare it to a wetsuit, a drysuit does the opposite job - it keeps you dry. it does this by ensuring the water gets into your suit due to the materials which they are made with, typically from foam neoprene, vulcanised rubber or heavy-duty nylon.
It uses a combination of wrist seals, neck seals, and waterproof zippers to keep you completely, ensuring that any entry point is completely tight so that water - whether that's due to being submerged or from rain and your paddle shaft - do not get into your suit.
Dry suits are typically fit more loosely in comparison to its wet suit counterpart. This is because all of its function is in the material sued and the clever zippers they have been made with; unlike a wetsuit where it needs to be tightly fit to function properly.
You are able to wear clothes underneath which is perfect if you're wanting to add some extra warmth to your body whilst out on your personal boat.
A lot of air is trapped between you and the suit, because of this you do actually have some form of added floating ability - extra buoyancy which can take some time getting used to.
This would negatively impact you if you were diving and can take some getting used to. But when we talk about it in terms of kayaking, this is more than fine since we have our PFD around us anyway, which would do a similar and even better job. I thought I'd let you know any way in case you do other water activities beyond kayaking which may affect your capabilities due to you floating more.
Wetsuit vs Drysuit
If you're trying to decide which one is the best for you and your money, then I'm going to compare the two for you now (I'll let you know my personas choice at the end if that's something you're interested in)
How do they keep you warm?
Wetsuits: They use a layer of water, which seeps in as soon as you enter any body of water (or over time due to rain) and this water is then heated up thanks to natural body heat to keep you insulated.
Drysuits: Drysuits use a layer of air between you and the suit which allows you to comfortably wear extra thermal clothing underneath.
My Thoughts: Here I believe it depends on what you're doing, if you're only in your kayak, then a drysuit is going to be superior as you're never going to come in contact with enough water to have that extra layer of heat - unless you're planning on going for a swim during your trip.
How do they affect mobility?
Wetsuits: Because of their skin-tight fitting, wetsuits typically make it easier to move around, no matter what you're doing
Drysuits: on the other hand, drysuits are much baggier in comparison so your movement is a let less favourable.
My Thoughts: In my opinion, I have seen no difference between the two, drysuits are baggier in comparisons but both are skin-tight when you consider your day to day clothes, so either in this case is a fine choice.
[quads id=1]
How long do they last?
Wetsuits: Typically due to their low-quality design (in comparison to dry suits) you are looking at about 3-5 years life span of your suit - which isn't too bad of an investment if you get plenty of use from it.
Drysuits: With proper care and maintenance, a high-quality dry suit can last you up to 15 years - but will more than certainly set you back a lot more than a wetsuit would
My Thoughts: They are both equally great choices when looking at value, and it all depends on your budget. I think both lifespans are honourable and it all depends on how much money you're wanting to spend initially.
Where should you put your money?
As of now, entry-level drysuits can cost just as much as high-end water suits. So if you're looking it from this point of view, and ignoring all previous points, your money is best of with a wetsuit - when you talk about value.
Summary
If we had to look at everything but money, drysuits seem to be the winner here when considering wetsuit vs drysuit. Although overall, it does depend on what activities you're getting up to. Since kayaking necessarily isn't just being in your raft, you might do some other activities throughout the day. So take these into account.
As for myself, I always use a wetsuit as I just prefer their low-end cost and their tightness on my body. And if I were to ever go overboard I know that at the very least it would be beneficial for me since I could use the water I have added to my suit as a way of heating my body up.
All I would have to account for is the lack of heat initially, so If you're going to do what I'm doing, I'd recommend adding a few extra layers to make up for the lack of heat at first.
That will be all for today,
Arthur.

Difference Between Kayak and Canoe
There is quite a difference between kayak and canoe, but it may not be immediately obvious. Especially if you’re just getting until my beloved sport – there are a lot of bloggers out there using ‘canoeing’ as an umbrella term which kayaking seems to be falling under. Which this, in fact, should not be the … Continue reading Difference Between Kayak and Canoe →

Advanced Elements Advancedframe Kayak Review
The advanced elements advancedframe kayak review is a serious kayak for serious kayakers.
Why?
Well firstly, the pricing isn't cheap, of course, if you're someone who is a seasoned veteran then I'd recommending you keep reading as this overall is a great kayak, but for beginners you're better off checking out one of my other kayak reviews on kayaks that are at a more affordable price ranges. Check out our Sevylor Wabash Review or Intex Challenger K2 Kayak Review if you're new to kayaking for a more justifiable price friendly kayak.
Secondly, this hybrid kayak is built with quality, combining both a traditional folding frame style along with inflatable kayak designs meaning that it isn't something you're going to want to throw in the back of your car or walk down the road to your favourite laking spot, this kayak is going to need some pre-planning before use.
How does the Advanced Elements Kayak paddle?
It slices effortlessly through the water like a knife through butter and with that it rivals the trackability of hard-shell kayaks of its price range. The stern itself acts as a keg which helps to increase tracking performance. It uses extremely durable materials and high-end components to ensure it does its intended job to the highest possible quality.
There really isn't much to say about how this particular kayak paddles, I feel like in most of my reviews this is a key point but it just does everything wonderfully, I can't possibly pick faults and ultimately can't manage to put it into words how good this kayak feels on the water.
Advanced Elements Kayak – Key Features
XC Design
Inner tube cover adds stiffness and abrasion protection, this makes it an even more attractive purchase if you're someone who likes to go on small narrow rivers where things like branches and pointy rocks are on your path, with this design detail you will be safe of scratches and will be less likely to pick up punctures.
Adjustable Seats
As always, with most kayaks, the seats are adjustable, allowing you to take them out of the raft if needed or to be moved to offer someone in the kayak more appropriate leg room. The seats are also foldable, so if, for some reason you have forgotten to remove the seat halfway through the journey, you can easily remove it, fold it up and place it somewhere where it isn't going to take up much room.
Comfortable Seating
High rise seats offer comfortable seating and give you great positioning that will allow you to paddle for hours without taking a toll on your body, this also makes it the perfect leisurely kayak, so instead of using it to travel from A to B to a location, perhaps you could pack a picnic and enjoy some food on your favourite lake.
Lightweight and Compact Size
With its folding mechanism, the compact design of this kayak is apparent as well as the outer cover which gives this kayak a lightweight design, making it easy for you to carry it from your car to your favourite lake and also giving it its durable and smooth sailing on a bed of water.
All in 1
With everything coming with it, the Advanced Elements features all the necessary tools that allow you to start the fun adventures as soon as you purchase it. As always, I would recommend picking up some life jackets for you and your crewmembers, never joke about safety!
Features
Unusually, we know do this with one of our reviews but we thought we'd list all the features, even the very small details since I think they're worth mentioning - especially for such a high ticket kayak, you're going to want to know all about it!
7 Air chambers.
Rubber moulded handle.
Bungee deck lacing.
Paddle holder.
Mesh pocket.
Newly advanced inflation valves.
Folding seat.
Tracking fin.
Durable fabric cover.
Splash diverter.
Electronically welded seams.
Rigid bow and stern.
Inner tube cover.
“Is the Advanced Elements Advancedframe Kayak for me?”
Like I said at the start of the review, I firmly believe that the Advanced Elements Advancedframe Kayak is for those veteran kayakers that are looking to upgrade their current raft, simply because I believe the price point is way beyond what a beginner should be looking to pay if they are interested in this sport.
But if that's doesn't, in fact, fit you, and you are a veteran then yes this is the kayak for you! I could not possibly recommend it enough because of the pure quality you're receiving
Closing Thoughts on the Sevylor Wabash Review
To reiterate my points throughout this review, this kayak, from my point of view is for veterans of the hobby and for anyone looking to get into the sport, you should steer away from picking this kayak up unless you're willing to spend more than necessary to get started.
If you're a veteran and want to finally upgrade your kayak and start taking this wonderful hobby of ours much more seriously, then get your Advanced Elements Advancedframe Kayak here
As always, I hope this review was helpful and happy kayaking!
See you all next time,
Arthur.

Sevylor Adventure Review
As always, I like to check reviews online before I write my own so I can see other great key points that people mention and also as one that people fail to let the readers know. After reading a lot of reviews, I found one main 'fact' everyone kept talking about, more like arguing if anything...
There's seems to be a debate on whether or not the Sevylor Adventure is actually a kayak or rather a canoe, but from my years of experience, does it matter?
Not at all in my personal opinion since if the 'kayak' or 'canoe' aka the Sevylor Adventure does what you want it to do, does it matter what it is identified as?
Absolutely not.
Due to its affordable price point, this kayak is great for anyone looking for an all-around great kayak that won't burn a gigantic hole in their pocket. Whether you're using it for relaxing times on a lake or fishing on calm waters and seashores, the Sevylor Adventure is seriously a KAYAK you're going to want to own.
With its short inflation time (around about 10mintues with the pump) and small light design, this seriously is a no hassle kayak and is certainly ideal for anyone looking to go on spontaneous days out with their partner or family.
How does the Sevylor Adventure paddle?
It paddles well although slow, this is most probably due to the drag of the kayak which is most probably because of the seats which are attached to the bottom of the kayak rather than the side like a lot of the new Sevylor which properly distributes the weight to reduce drag when the kayak is travelling through the water.
To continue on how it paddles, the Sevylor Adventure certainly isn't fast, even if you're paddling like a madman you won't seem to move any further. I've found even walkers by the canal are a lot faster than I was when paddling like this, so if you're a speed junky then this kayak is definitely not for you but for anyone looking to enjoy there time whilst on the water, then the Sevylor Adventure couldn't be any more perfect for you.
I've only ever used this thing solo, but I'd probably only ever do it for this purpose as it would most probably be a tight squeeze for to normal sized adults -  I also find that sitting cross-legged is your best idea if you want to not get sore legs due to the lack of room. The back support is rather unforgiven and after a few hours of paddling I began to hurt, so I would recommend only using this in short bursts or at least take rests from paddling by having calm breaks on the water and let yourself drift rather than moving forcefully.
Sevylor Madison – Key Features
After speaking about the paddling and my own experiences using this kayak, here are some key points:
Quick Inflation
As far as inflating this kayak goes, it'd say it fairly quick. It takes around 10mintues to fully inflate all of the parts (seats included) which isn't too bad for a kayak this size.
Adjustable Seats
The seats can be adjusted to give those who need extra leg room as they are just strapped to the sides, however, what I ended up doing was using this kayak for myself so I took the other seats out of the kayak which offered a whole world of leg and cargo room.
Convenient Size
For a kayak which supports at least 2 people, the size is pretty compact, once the kayak has been deflated of course. This makes it so you are able to throw it in the back of your car and head down to your favourite spot without much hassle, it also makes carrying it on your back effortless (I'd recommend taking turns between you and a friend if you plan on walking a fair distance with this kayak on your back, however)
Sturdy Design
Although it is quite slow than many kayaks, what it lacks it speed it greatly makes up for in defences. With the high rise sides, you will find less water splashing in as well as any foreign objects in the water such as sharp object will have a harder time penetrating the kayak due to the durable polyester hull.
Easy To Steer
This kayak overall, in my experience (travelling alone) is fairly easy to steer with both paddles. This may be because it's slower than most kayaks so, therefore, there is less water pressure on the kayak which gives you more controllability
"Is this a Kayak or a Canoe?"
Who the hell knows and who the hell cares? It does the job and that's all that matters!
(I couldn't resist adding this in after my previous comments on the ongoing debate about the Sevylor Adventure)
“Is the Sevylor Madison for me?”
Now I really don't believe this kayak is strictly for anyone, there are a few factors which I have spoken about that hold it back from it being so, unlike say the Sevylor Madison which I feel is for all types of kayakers.
This kayak is best for kayakers looking to go as a solo on a calm lake, river or to do a pot of fishing for a maximum of 4 hours at a time. Simply down to the fact that the leg room is unforgiving and despite it being marketed as a 2/3 seater kayak there is nowhere near enough leg room for this amount of kayakers to have an enjoyable experience.
So if you're a solo rider, looking for an affordable kayak that you can throw into the back of the car without much planning and be set up within 10 minutes of getting your favourite spot, then the Sevylor Adventure is a purchase you just have to make.
Closing Thoughts on the Sevylor Madison Review
This kayak, for its price, is great. There isn't much room for complaints when it comes to a kayak at this price point,
But to sum up my thoughts, I would absolutely recommend this kayak to anyone who is looking for a reliable and affordable kayak that is going to be ideal for them when they are their solo adventures.
So if this is you, then stop looking about for kayaks because the Sevylor Adventure is absolutely right for you.
See you all next time,
Arthur.

Sevylor Wabash Review
Ideally to be used for the purpose of convenience, as there is no doubt there are other kayaks on today's market, especially Sevylor kayaks that excel far greater for the purposes of fun, racing, riving running and long distance journeys. But at this price range, if you take the Sevylor Wabash kayak for what it is, and you're looking for an inflatable that can be thrown into a car and be taken out for a spontaneous day out with the kids, then there is no better kayak than the Sevylor Wabash.
With the Wabash, you are able to do all those things listed above, to some degree, as stated there are other kayaks that excel better in each area but when they are at a much higher price point which makes the commitment to the hobby a lot higher, buying a Sevylor Wabash to test the waters of kayaking is seriously a no-brainer.
Here I have laid out a great review as to why I think this kayak is perfect for any newcomer to kayaking, as well as the benefits and features this kayak is going to give you.
without further ado,
Let's get into it...
How does the Sevylor Wabash paddle?
This seriously is a 'no fluff' kayak, in the water it does exactly as you might expect. It is sophisticated and for an inflatable kayak is ais seriously a tough one, you'd of thought it was built from titanium by just how sturdy it is - almost impossible to tip over.
Due to its design, you may feel some drag when paddling with the kayak, this is due to the seats being placed on the bottom of the kayak rather than being attached to the sides like the Sevylor Alameda, these seats are attached to the floor which could give this result. Although saying this, the drag is somewhat noticeable, especially to a beginner. You'll be having to much fun to notice!
Designed for short paddles rather than long hauls ultimately because of the convenience it gives you with its quick and easy setup and even the ease of putting the kayak away.
And with its price, it goes without saying that there are3 no footrests or cute little details that add to the functionality of this Sevylor Wabash, but that does not mean it still isn't a great kayak. These kayas do not really affect the paddling experience although they could hold you back from having all the fun if you're in need of more leg room or convenient pockets for holding any snacks and drinks.
So if you're looking for a 'no fluff kayak' that will give you the spontaneous fun you desire for you and your family, then getting a Sevylor Wabash is a no-brainer.
If you're discouraged by the fact that this kayak isn't as good as others on the market, even though you shouldn't consider its price range, it would be a shame to not even purchase one for your children who could finally join you on those adventures. So in the case, even if it's not for you, you will know someone that will be grateful to have a Sevylor Wabash.
Sevylor Wabash – Key Features
Here listed are some key features that I really think will spark your interest even further in the Sevylor Wabash kayak and hopefully convince you why the Wabash is great for you are for someone that you know.
Speedy Inflation
With the foot pump, it will take you no more than 5 minutes to fully inflate the Sevylor Wabash to full capacity, which I believe is pretty good, as for as convenience goes. Besides, it gives the rest of the family a pre-kayak break if snacks and toilet breaks are needed!
Adjustable Seats
Now, some of us need a lot of leg room, and others don't. With these seats you are able to adjust them to your preference, whether you're moving them to give more leg room to those who need it or completely removing them from the kayak when not in use.
Lightweight and Compact Size
With the light sports like bag it comes with, this kayak is extremely convenient, making it an ideal kayak if you're wanting to throw it in the back of the car for a spontaneous trip out with the family, park the car and throw the kayak over your shoulder allowing you to effortlessly walk to your favourite spot without to much hassle.
All in 1
With everything coming with it, the Wabash features all the necessary tools that allow you to start the fun adventures as soon as you purchase it. Although, I would recommend picking up life jackets if you're not so confident at kayaking or are generally unconfident in the water.
Light paddles
This is one of my pain points as to why this is a kid-friendly kayak. With light panels, even the kids will be able to help out with the rowing, it may take some more time to get to where you want to be due to their lightness but it creates even more fun for you and the kids.
High Protective Sides
Designed with higher sides, the kayak puts up a great defence against water and any splashing you may experience from splashing paddles to poor weather conditions. This is an extremely important feature, especially if you have kids as getting wet sometimes gets in the way of the fun!
Repair Kit
And as always, with any kayak you purchase online, it comes with a standard repair kit, as a way of giving you a 'quick fix' to any punctures you may pick up when you're having fun. Giving you a way to quickly solve problems and deal with them once the fun has ended.
“Is the Sevylor Wabash for me?”
Reinforcing this like before, I believe the Sevylor Wabash is best for any beginner to the hobby or even if you're just looking for a cheap kayak that can be tossed in the back for a spontaneous adventure with the kids.
So with this consider, if you've got kids, are looking for a light and affordable kayak for no-hassle fun then you'd be stupid not to get you and your family a Sevloy Wabash.
Closing Thoughts on the Sevylor Wabash Review
Basically, this kayak is for anyone is who is a beginner or a parent looking for an inflatable kayak that won't burn a hole in your pocket,
The Wabash is an excellent 'gateway' kayak into the sport, because of its design purely for fun this can ease anyone and convince them how good the hobby is.
So, if you resonate with any of these points, then getting the Sevylor Wabash is something you have to do - even if it's for your curious child.
As always, I hope this review was useful and you've finally come to a decision of picking the right kayak for you.
See you all next time,
Arthur.

Sevylor Madison Review
There are plenty of kayaks on today market, whether you're looking one for fun, for racing, for riving running or any long distance journey, there will be an inflatable kayak for that.
The Sevylor Madison has a lot of competition when it comes to doing all those things I've just listed above, and there is no doubt that these other kayaks do a better job, but for a fraction of the price, the Madison is an ideal kayak for anyone looking for the ability to throw it in the back of their car, drive down to their favourite spot and get on the water for an afternoon of fun.
This is mainly due to the fact that, as I've just said the Sevylor Madison will come at a fraction of the price, with all of the necessary thrown in with your purchase, such as paddles and a storage bag, the Sevylor Madison is a no-brainer buy.
Made for the uncomplicated fun factor.
Admittedly it looks a little daunting once first taken out of the box, but if you follow the guided procedure, you'll have everything inflated in no time.
How does the Sevylor Alameda paddle?
On the water it's exactly what you expect and could want from an inflatable kayak at this price range, it is a sophisticated and a very tough inflatable two-seater, with enough leg room and for two decently sized rucksacks - perfect for a weekend adventure.
Honestly there's not too much to comment on here, what you see is what you get, with the seats being inflatables and attached to the floors of the kayak you make experience some drag than if the seats were attached the sides but in all honesty, my experience with this kayak I never noticed it once, particularly because I was having to much fun and partially because it made little to no difference.
Due to the carry bag, the ease of pumping the raft due to the foot pump and handy repair kit, this kayak is great for short paddles rather than full-scale adventures, simply because of its convenience.
It goes without saying that there are no fancy footrests or little convenient details you may find on similar kayaks of the Sevylor range, due to its price point which could take away from the paddling experience but the kayak is intended to be used in short bursts, if you're looking for a kayak that has all these little necessities and is built more for just fun, you should probably check out my Sevylor Ottawa Review or Sevylor Alameda Review.
I have to say, overall, when you look at it from an angle of fun, then you really can't go wrong with picking up a Sevylor Madison.
Even if you're looking for a more serious kayak for yourself that has better performance, at this price range it would be a shame to not buy one, so if you've got kids then buy one, they'll be able to get endless amounts of fun out of it as its so easy to ride, inflate and put away.
Sevylor Madison – Key Features
This is the part where I list some key features worth noting, this is a quick way of getting the information you need on the kayak so you waste no time coming to a decision and you can start the enjoy the kayaking experience as soon as possible
Quick Inflation
It'll take you less than 5 minutes to inflate the kayak and the seats as it comes with a handy foot pump which works with the kayak and the seats; although blowing the seats up by mouth is also a valid option.
Adjustable Seats
A common theme with inflatable kayaks but one certainly worth noting. The seats can be positioned to where you please, although on the floor of the Madison Sevylor has outlined suggested position of where you should place them you are more than welcome to move them around, giving the most leg room to those who need it.
Convenient Size
Because of the light large sports type bag, you can easily throw this over the shoulder and carry it to your destination as well as once you're done with it, you can easily pack it away and throw it in the back of your car without it becoming a burden due to the room it takes up, which is usually a common problem with many other kayaks.
All In 1
Coming with a foot pump and paddles, you have everything you could need to begin your adventure. Although it is noted I would absolutely recommend getting you and anyone else travelling with you lifejackets, safety first guys!
Light Paddles
Speaking of the paddles, they are also light enough to the point that kids will have an easy time using them so they can join in on the fun! Usually, paddles are weighted to give you more movement in the water but because you are going to be using this in calm waters, these paddles are perfect for the job.
High Rise Sides
Because you sit so low in the Madison, you are well supported by the sides, meaning that if you're on a calm lake or river you will be protected from any splashing water. Sometimes the water that you're travelling in can get in the way of the fun; no one likes being cold and wet!
Easy To Steer
If used on calm waters and rivers, just like it was made for, you will find no problem getting the Madison to do exactly what you want it to do; even the kids will have an easy job of navigating!
Standard Repair Kit
And as always, with any kayak you purchase online, it also comes with a standard repair kit offering you a quick fix way of any punctures you main pick up by sharp objects in the waters. Please be aware that this repair kit is quick fix solution and the kayak should be properly looked at once properly out of the water and deflated.
“Is the Sevylor Madison for me?”
If you've read this review throughout, you may be aware by now that I'm quite heavy on recommending this one for the kids; and rightly so, I think its a really good, convenient kayak that can easily be thrown in to the back of the car without any preplanning and you are able to drive down to your favourite spot of water and have some fun for an hour or two.
So for that reason, if you've got kids and you want to have some fun, or even for your little ones want their own kayak to join you out on the water, Sevylor Madison is a no-brainer.
Even if you're looking at this kayak to purchase for yourself, it still isn't a bad idea in that regard. As it is easy to set up, use and pack away. Great for that sper of the moment kayak sessions. So if you're someone who likes to go out on calm waters and relax then Sevylor Madison is still a great purchase.
Closing Thoughts on the Sevylor Madison Review
Ultimately, this kayak is for those who are looking for an inflatable that is going to bring them a great deal of fun to an activity they already enjoy.
The Madison is also a great purchase to act as a 'gateway' to introduce your children to this wonderful hobby we all enjoy so much.
So if you're looking to chill out on calm lakes alone or with your children enjoying the fun together, then there is no better inflatable kayak on today's market than the Sevylor Madison.
I hope you found this guide useful in your search the right kayak for you...
And as always, thanks for reading, don't forget your lifejackets and have fun out there!
See you all next time,
Arthur.

Sevylor Alameda Review
If you've read my Sevylor Ottawa review, you'll know that many people who write any Sevylor Alameda review seem to love to compare both the Ottawa and the Almeda. Stating that the Alameda is 'inferior' to its cousin, and to be fair, I do hint at this in my previous review.
However, it is to be noted that Alameda will stay make for a great inflatable kayak if you're in the market for one.
The most obvious improvement the Alameda has over any previous kayaks is that the seat design has been drastically improved to maximise comfort for people using it as a 3-man and a 2-man inflatable. Like on the Sevylor Madison, where the seats were inflatable and were anchored to the floor of the kayak with velcro, the Alameda seats are still inflatable but now the seats are suspended from the site rather than touching the floor which means the kayak has less drag than other previous iterations.
Whilst we are on the subject of seats for now, if you consider the fact that this kayak makes for a great 3-man inflatable it will also make for a great 2 man inflatable as well due to the adjustable seats that can be move and removed if needed, offering more leg space to those who need it.
Inflatables are usually bought for kayakers looking for a lot of room for their travels, and the Sevylor Alameda provides this, with pocked seats and endless amounts of leg room for even carry-ons. With this, the kayak also isn't to much trouble inflated, all in all, it takes around about 5 minutes to inflate with a manual pump, which really isn't too bad in my hones opinion.
How does the Sevylor Alameda paddle?
The Sevylor Alameda has been designed to primarily target those within the leisure market, whether that's for families of 3 looking to go on a calm day out or for beginners looking to slowly get into the hobby and want a reliable kayak that will give them the confidence they need to move onto more exciting waters.
I would say the Alameda is near impossible to flip on straightforward calm rivers and lakes, which makes it ideal for even the most unconfident riders and swimmers. The raised walls of the kayak with the built-in spray wall gives you excellent defence against small waves and choppier waters that you sometimes may encounter on even the calmest of lakes, which is usually due to being caught in poor weather. Due to this, you will find yourself with a relatively dry boat.
Because of the new and improved elevated seats, which I had spoken about previously, this not only reduces the drag your vessel would experience, it also gives you more clearance over the sides so you can paddle easier. With handles for your paddles on each side of the Alameda, you have a great place to keep them when you're casually flowing downstream or at a standstill on a calm lake.
Tracking and gliding through your favourite waters is simple with the attachable skeg and built-in directional strake. With its underneath, dual skin made by Decitex provides a smooth water free surface to travel over many calm water surfaces, on top of the fact it gives you great defence against sharp object that may be in the water.
Overall I'd say this is one tough inflatable kayak, and its actually quite hard to believe its an inflatable because when you consider its defences, you'd think this thing was made out of titanium!
Sevylor Alameda - Key Features
Although I have just spoken about some of these features, I'm going to go on and list the most important ones, see you can get a clear understanding of what this kayak can offer you.
Wide Shape
With its wide shape, which offers you more leg room and general space when in the kayak, it also directly improves the stability of the inflatable so you are less likely to flip your vessel.
Removable Seats
As I have said before, this kayak makes for a great 3 seater due to the adjustable seats which allow you to reposition when you and the other kayaks sit, giving you control over who should have the most leg room. But on top of this, the removable seats makes it ideal for those families that sometimes travel with 3, sometimes with 2 and even for people who go out on the water alone.
Cargo Net
Sometimes, you just need to keep things close to you, whether that's a first aid kit or a water bottle, you will be happy to know that each seat has its own cargo netting which gives you the opportunity to the important things close to you.
Removable Fin
When kayaking, it is handy to have tracking which offers you a great way of keeping inline so you can get to the places you need to go. However, we understand that some kayakers do not like this feature as it may restrain you from doing exactly what you want, well you'll be happy to know the fin comes as a detachable feature.
Easy Inflation
Including a manual pump, you might consider this 'not easy' but due to the fact that it only takes up 5 minutes of your day and with this in comparison to other kayaks on the kayak, this is most certainly 'easy inflation'.
Standard Repair Kit
And as always, with any kayak you purchase online, it also comes with a standard repair kit which offers a 'quick fix' way of repairing any problems with your Alameda that you may encounter on the water until you can get a more reliable fix.
"Is the Sevylor Alameda for me?"
So far in this review, I feel like I've laid out plenty of details about the kayak, and hopefully, by this point, you will know if the Sevylor Alameda is the right one for you.
However, if you can't quite decide, here are a few more things to take note to help you make your decision on just this.
As I have written previously, the Sevylor Alameda has been made and marketed towards a more casual kayaker, for people who enjoy calm days out with their family on mild waters like straightforward flowing rivers and lakes. So ideally, you will be purchasing this kayak with the intent to do exactly this
And due to the removable seats, you are somewhat versatile in what you can do with this kayak if you're going out with the family one week and riding solo the next then the Sevylor Alameda is a kayak you're going to most definitely want to purchase.
Closing Thoughts on the Sevylor Alameda Review
I think Sevylor has done a great deal to improve the Alameda from its previous iterations, with such things as removable and adjustable seats go a long way for a family of kayakers.
The main selling point, of course, is the convenience of the raft and the fact that it has been made for the sole purpose of fun days out with family and friends, at a moderately reasonable price.
The quality is overall excellent, roomy and lightweight so it is easily carryable from the car and it opens up so many options for people looking for an all-round kayak for themselves and their families.
You really can't go wrong purchasing the Sevylor Alameda here.
I may consider reviewing both the Sevylor Alameda and Sevylor Ottawa side by side, since they are such similar kayaks...
But until then...
See you all next time,
Arthur.

Intex Challenger K2 Kayak Review
The Intex Challenger K2 Kayak holds a special place in the hearts of many long-time keen Kayakers of today.
Particularly because this specific kayak is typically the starting kayak that people who are looking to get into the hobby usually obtain due to its low cost, durable and reliable design.
And with this, this kayak also holds a special place in my heart since this is also one of the first kayaks I every first purchased due to the reasons I have just stated, so I thought that I had to at least give it a recommendation in a review of mine and hopefully paddle someone in the direction of making this their first reliable inflatable kayak.
Usually, at this point, I'm telling you how great this kayak is and comparing it with similar inflatables on the market but in my honest opinion, at this price range...
There is nothing that compares to this raft, in terms of its quality and the affordability
So let's get into it,
Here is my no fluff Intex Challenger K2 Kayak Review...
How does the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak paddle?
Designed for two people but as we usually say on this website, even if you're going solo it means there's just more leg room for you, allowing you to take a quick nap in on mild lakes and rivers! Speaking of which, this is exactly what the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak was made for, calm lakes and rivers, due to the companies vinyl construction of the kayak.
Although to some this seems to be a dropback, as it appears to limit what you can do with the kayak, you have to remember that this special inflatable kayak has been made for beginners who, at first, should be getting to grips with paddling their boats in mild conditions!
So if you're are beginning as a solo or as duo and arent looking to paddle in extreme conditions and would much rather chill out with a friend and explore your local lakes and rivers on still and calm waters then the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak is going to be an ideal for you!
Intex Challenger K2 Kayak - Key Features
To give you an even better understand of why the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak is absolutely best for beginners and people looking to have calm and relaxing adventures, I'm going to delve into the key features of the kayak as appose to my own opinions, so you can gain a solid idea of how worth it this kayak is.
Grab Line
Moving the kayak is half the battle, especially once you've inflated it onshore and need to move it into a bed of water but with the grab line, which has been featured on both sides for convenience, this kayak will be simple to move and will effortlessly allow you to take the kayak in and out of the water.
Cargo Net
At the front of the kayak there is a fairly large piece of netting, this allows you to store things such as flip-flops and sandals and should be used for items that you don't mind getting wet, or at least items that will be protected from the water (such as a phone which has been placed in a plastic bag)
Removable Skeg
Underneath the raft, there is a skeg which has been redesigned due to feedback from previous iterations of this style of the kayak with the ability to be able to be removed if needed. This simply slides and clicks in and out of place.
Aluminum Kayak Oars
With this inflatable kayak, you will also get two aluminium oars which are both 84-inches in length and can be broken down into two parts, so that you can easily carry these in hand, in the kayak when not in use or in the car on your way to your favourite lake or river spot.
High-capacity Pump
Included, is a simple to use hand pump which features a compact design, easily fitted to the pump and then into the kayak.
Although, due to its compact design it also takes a little while for the entire kayak to be inflated this just means you'll have more time picking your entry point into the river or allows for quick snack break whilst you wait.
Standard Repair Kit
As standard with any kayak you purchase online, the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak comes with a repair kit for any problems you may encounter, offer you quick fix to your issues so you can get back out then and continue to enjoy your time alone or with your partner.
"Is the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak for me?"
Now as always, only you can decide that and hopefully in this review I have laid out the key factors which will hopefully sway you into purchasing this inflatable kayak; I say 'hopefully' since I think its a great kayak for beginners and for anyone looking to start kayaking.
However, lets get into some more points as to why the Intex Kayak might be for you...
As I stated at the beginning of this review, this kayak is abruptly the best option you're going to have on today's market in terms of affordability if you're just a beginner, as ideally when you start doing something, well actually anything in life, you don't even know if you like doing the exact thing you so it would be ideal to keep costs down, and with this kayak you will.
More on the fact this is ideal for beginners, the kayak is also easy to move due to the grab line and is also designed to for calm waters, which is what you should be going in if you're a beginner, to help build up confidence in yourself and your ability.
Designed to seat two people, this inflatable kayak is ideal for two people, whether that's you and your partner or with a child of yours. But, with its removable seat design, you can effortlessly move one of the seats and create your self some great leg room and even extra storage space for a backpack or a pair of shoes.
Closing Thoughts on the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak Review
Hope you found this review helpful and it allowed you to come to your final decision of if the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak is the right one for your needs
And as I've been saying throughout this review, this kayak is absolutely your best choice if you're a beginner or looking to do some casual kayaking with a friend or family member.
So, if you fit these details and are impressed by this affordable and reliable kayak, then the Intex Challenger K2 Kayak is the one for you.
I will be sure to bring more reviews like this in the future, specifically targeted at beginners
So stay tuned for that.
Until next time,
Arthur.

Sevylor Ottawa Review
In many other Sevylor Ottawa Reviews I have read online before I finally took the plunge and bought my own, people always seem to compare their Sevylor Alameda with the Sevylor Ottawa Kayak 2018... and for good reason.
But why?
Why do people compare the Sevylor Ottawa and the Sevylor Alameda you ask?
Well, both models perform exceptionally well, are the same in length and width and carry the same number of paddlers - up too 3 people can use this Kayak at any one-time and if you're a loner like me, this just means more leg room!
One of the notable differences between the two when not comparing logistics is that the Sevylor Ottawa is shaped like a typical canoe despite it being branded as a 'kayak' and the Sevylor Amanda is shaped like a traditional inflatable kayak.
This is precisely what makes the Ottawa stand out from its 'predecessor', not technically of course, its rather the older brother to the Alameda but I like to look at it this way as it improves on everything that the Alameda had and here's why...
Noting the fact that the Ottawa has a more canoe shape than a traditional inflatable kayak was key because even with its different style, you honestly cant quite believe this thing was inflatable, its so god damn solid you'd believe it was made out of light-weight titanium of sorts - honestly this is not an over exaggeration, I really do think its probably one of the most sturdy kayak's I have tried and tested!
Due to the Ottawa's black protective Decitex skin, which comes up higher then its 'younger brother' it offers better protection against scrapes which makes it perfect if you're travelling down narrow canals.
If you're anything like me, you just have to have your kayak's always in pristine condition.
On top of this, the fin you will know from the Alameda, which gave it better tracking ability going forward, has now been modified so that you can easily attach/remove without needing to deflate your kayak first - which may not be a huge improvement compared to the solid as a rock skin it now bears but it is certainly one worth noting.
Right, enough comparing the Sevylor Ottawa with other kayaks, time to get into the real reasons why this kayak is perfect for anyone and everyone...
How does the Sevylor Ottawa paddle?
Speaking from experience, going as solo and once or twice as a 3-man with a couple of friends - fishing is great for this kayak, due to the 'skin' which covers it and the way it seemingly glides over waters, I'm so far impressed with how well it handles itself.
I am most impressed by the abilities in which it glides over water whilst tracking in a straight line perfectly without much real effort, whilst remaining stable and balanced so the time spent in the Ottawa can be an enjoyable experience overall and not something you need to keep worrying about whilst trying to have a great time.
Perfect for families, this Kayak also works wonderfully in all types of water conditions, from calm open oceans to shakey water rapids and narrow canals.
This is most probably due to the higher inflation pressure, which is actually higher than all the other models within the Sevylor series.
Overall the Sevylor Ottawa performs in the water as you'd expect from such a high-quality fibreglass kayak.
Sevylor Ottawa Review - Key Features
To give you a better understanding of why I'm recommending the Sevylor Ottawa so highly, I'm going to continue on with some key features as to why it is just a well-made kayak that is perfect for anyone.
This is so you can make your own judgement and decide if its right for you and maybe for your family.
New Improved Seating Design
One of the most impressive changes to the Ottawa from past iterations is the improved seating design, which makes it more comfortable and accessible to anyone who uses the kayak and it essentially uses your weight to help with the sturdiness of the entire vessel.
Each seat is suspended from the side tubes via hooks, which has four enormous benefits:
Your weight and your co-kayakers are now spread across the entire kayak, not just the floor - this removes any opportunity for the hull to misshape, and taking away any possible drag from the bump.
The hooks that connect the seats to the kayak can now be moved forward or backwards, allowing you to give more leg room to those who need it - and if you have no passengers on board, then perfect because with this design you can easily hook the seats, allowing you to remove them from the kayak altogether, giving yourself all the leg room you could need!
Higher seats - keeping your bottom dry and your paddling easy.
Say goodbye to a backache and welcome more enjoyable journies due to the improved lumbar backrests which support your body helping to maximize comfort which goes far above and beyond any standard kayak.
  Hardened Patented Skin
I spoke about this a little before, but this is here to give you a bit more of a technical analysis of what I was getting at.
Underneath the Ottawa, it is protected by Decitex®, which is a patented skin formed for nylon that has been meticulously woven through multiple layers of PVC to ensure a hardened finish (hence the 'Hardened Patented Skin' title I so cleverly gave it!!)
The result, which not only leads to a hardened finish but gives the kayak a smooth and slippery surface with low drag.
Hardened skin allows you to drag your Ottawa up shingle beaches, run carelessly over rocks and graze against low-lying tree branches and roots.
Water will also bead off the kayak's 'skin', meaning your Ottawa will be dry in no time when you eventually bring it out of the water so that you can quickly back it up and head on home!
"Is the Sevylor Ottawa for me?"
Obviously only you can answer that but I am here to give you all the information necessary, whether that's from my own experience or based on the actual details of the product.
However, I do think the Ottawa seems to have been specifically made for certain types of kayaking enthusiasts, here why.
The Ottawa is near impossible to flip over, which makes it a safe option for families.
Coupled with the fact that it is nimble in its navigation, but robust and stable enough to tackle rapids waves, which means that if you're with your family, you will have plenty of control of the movement - comparable to allocated movement you have in a car driving to the theatre with your partner and your children.
You will also have plenty of defence against waves if you or your family hate getting unnecessarily wet due to the bow and spray deck's design.
Although it has a lot of benefits, especially if you're with children, the Kayak is predominantly bought for solo use, due to the amount of leg room you are able to get with the removable seat function.
Together with the fact that the Kayak can easily be rolled away once deflated making it easy for someone going solo to manage, as well as coming with a bag that features comfortable padded shoulder straps so that you can easily walk to wherever you need to go with your kayak on your back - this is actually a really small feature but worth mentioning since I had no problems walking back home (about 5 miles away from where favorite kayaking spot is).
With handles at the mid-point and at each end of the kayak, it makes it even easier for you to carry the kayak by yourself once inflated.
The new paddle grips which have been implemented into this model also allow you to rest whenever you need to, which also removes the need of bringing a wet paddle into the cockpit.
Closing Thoughts on the Sevylor Ottawa 2018
Those are my thoughts and some more technical views on Sevylor Ottawa.
I hope you found this Sevylor Ottawa review useful.
And If I had to recommend this kayak to anyone, it would honestly be just for anyone.
The features apply to all kayakers and as it works perfectly for solos and families.
So, if you're always riding solo, or you like to bring the family along, the Sevylor Ottawa is for you.
I'll be back with plenty more review in the future, specifically on Sevylor products.
So stay tuned for that.
Until next time,
Arthur.
