im finally gonna take the shot and start this comic, but before i do i’m gonna talk about how it’s changed for a bit, because this story has been with me since i was like......15? and im 19 now. its been a minute with these guys.

when i started this when i was 15, it was a story about revolutionaries, or criminals. this was the same time that american beauty/american psycho came out and hoooo boy was that album a big draw for this story for me. it was something angry and rebellious because i was 15 and angry and rebellious was what i needed. a note is that the original title, run rabbit, came from scarecrow by my chemical romance, and that jackrabbit (now jackie) was the main character, and the story revolved around their inability to make connections with people - well, it didn’t revolve around that, because i don’t think i knew how to write that yet, but that was their main character trait. rabbit was a self insert from the start, and this is the stage when they were most like me, i think. in that original story, i think 3 out of 6 characters died.

between now and that original concept, run rabbit has changed to about a million different things - from criminals to vigilantes, from wizards to warlocks, from a pretty heavy handed metaphor for the struggles of being lgbt+ to a bunch of friends hanging out in the woods or something. now it’s something different - it’s a story about family, and the people that mean the most to you, and how the future cannot exist until you let go of the past. i’ve let go of run rabbits past - it’s new name is ladybird, ladybird, after an old children’s rhyme, and poppy is the main character where she used to have no character at all, and the story is much simpler, and now the only song off of ab/ap that even might fit it is favorite record. if you asked me now what album fit ladybird most, i think i’d answer transcendental youth by the mountain goats (it opens with ‘do every stupid thing that makes you feel alive’, and i think thats what this story is now).
