Mmmmm look at all that detail <3

The full evolution of my pan background!!! The images are 1) the thumbnail sketch; 2) the revised “super thumb”; 3) the full-size rough; and 4) the cleaned version, then that broken up into three scenes. I did everything in Clip Studio Paint on my Wacom Cintiq 16 Pro.

This was THE BIGGEST school assignment to date!! It was completed over a span of 4 weeks. I definitely learned a lot!!

Clockwork Planet Ep 01

Just throw gears everywhere.... that will work right?

Creating a world and background art for that world isn’t easy, but as much as I like the idea and aesthetic of a planet full of gears there backgrounds for this show don’t have a sense of place. Every chunk of the city looks like every other spot, and I couldn’t tell you where the main character lived if my life depended on it.

A map doesn't need to be crafted, or a world that can be explored like a detailed video game to have a sense of place. There just needs to be a bit of personality, or sense of reason. Nothing feels lived in.
