I can't say much for the other gens, since I'm not as familiar with them. But after re-re-re-re-re-reading Academy X recently, I'm just floored by all the chaos between the New Mutants. I love how they're good people, but each of them has flaws that lead them to hurt each other. By the time we get to the school dance, the team just implodes in on itself, and they end up needing to step back and learn how to be friends again.

It really says something that the Hellions (AKA the "evil" team) is much more cohesive as a team. Even their mini highlights how supportive they are of each other.

The Hellions stole the show in the end, but the New Mutants were great in their own right. I'm glad the books weren't afraid to have them make really sweet kids still make bad choices and (un)intentionally hurt others.

This was tricky…because there’s a lot of overlap with certain teams lol

Honestly, a confrontation would be a great way to reconcile her ignoring her old friends, and cap off the two's story in a nice way.

Picture it: New York, 2025. Hellion becomes a violent vigilante after everything he and other mutants had to endure. He's come to see the X-Men as incompetent at best, and corrupt at worst. He lost faith in co-existence and been radicalized. Maybe Fall of X resulted in him losing his loved once once more.

He's killing bad guys. He's hunting people down. He's turned himself into a weapon against humanity. But Laura can tell that his heart really isn't in it. That no matter what Julian says, he still has a sense of humanity in him, and it's breaking his heart to be in this position. It's a mix of him having a sense of duty to his people, and a desire to lash out and make an enemy out of the X-Men because he feels hurt.

That's where Laura comes in. Despite all the bad blood between them, despite calling her a machine incapable of feeling, despite her walking out on him when he was struggling to keep his head above water. Despite everything, she knows what it's like to think that killing others is your only option in life. She knows he's better than this. She's been there before, and she wants to save him, just like he and the other kids saved her. Before it's too late.

It's gone full circle. And if you want to take it all the way home, have Emma team up with Laura to stop Julian. This time, neither of them are going to abandon him.

For me, I prefer him as a villain. But I would be down his villain arc. After everything that has happened, he'd be completely justified in turning evil. It's a wonder he hasn't already.

And I would 1,000% support him in his evil endeavors.
